7: What are you most proud of?

I think I’m most proud of how I’m currently juggling multiple conflicts for the characters at once. Ozpin is dealing with Salem, Yang is dealing with her abandonment issues, Ruby is caught in the middle of the argument between the family, Weiss has her shitty family, Blake is facing racism, Oscar is being bullied at school, and Salem’s still sick.

8: What is your biggest challenge?

I’d say my biggest challenge is getting into my draft and staying on it. I get distracted easily and procrastinate too much.

Whats your favorite au for Cloqwork?

Oh man, that is a good question.......

This is going to be weird to say, like, genuinely weird for me, but even with all the AUs I’ve personally done with Cloqwork, my favourite one to explore is always their origins. I’m a sucker for slowburn and character development and I feel that Cloqwork is just such a process, that SO MUCH goes on before either of them really ever realizes that maybe they have feelings for each other.

 Its even better that no person interprets Qrow the exact same way and there’s just so much potential for differences in plot and everything. With how little we know in canon, I feel that there’s always just so much potential to explore Qrow’s time at Beacon, the growth of their characters, his post-graduate time and eventually leading into how the two of these awkward butts ended up recognizing their feelings for one another.

Any RWBY aus you have in mind? Also, favorite ship and why?

Ohhhhhhh I know I have so many favorite AU concepts but I am blanking right now! (This short list took me an hour to compile, I swear)

Favorite AUs

Actor AUs - I've seen a couple and they're always amazing. I also love seeing how different writers interpret the "actor" version of every character.

Modern AUs - whether they take place in the real world or a non-magic Remnant. Our characters being normal people in normal situations is the shit I live for.

@otterdoesart923's Ozluminati Band AU, specifically - I love music and I am obessessed with multiple bands at any given time so combing my fav characters with touring musician life is just 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻

Anything that highlights the characters over plot - the characters are the heart of this show, who needs substance? 😂

Favorite Ships

Cloqwork - if you've been on my blog for more than five minutes you can tell so I'll start with the obvious 😂😅 they're my favorite characters and I just want them to be happy 🥺

White Rose - I just think they're adorable. I love the "Ruby is a dork.... But she's my dork" interpretation and I also love the idea that Weiss is more of a dork than she let's on and Ruby makes her feel comfortable enough to dork-out 🤓

Bumblby - "We're protecting each other." That's it, that's all I needed to hear to fall in love with this ship.

Arkos and Renora - I'm putting these two together because my reasoning is essentially the same: I'm a basic bitch. I think the writers did a good job of hinting that you should want both of these ships to happen, although admittedly the execution of the relationships themselves could have been better at times.

I haven’t used the word “knife” in my WIP.

18: What's easier, dialogue or description?

Ehhh... that’s a difficult question. I think dialogue is easier. I know the characters and have an idea of the type of slang and mannerisms they’d use.

Description, on the other hand, is difficult because half the time I can’t find the right words to use. Clothing is a fucking nightmare. Whenever I reread how I described a character’s clothing, I feel like it’s too boring and not needed. But then I see posts of people complaining about how they want authors to describe the outfits and I just,,, UGH

Modern Criminal AU

Ruby Rose

She, like the rest of RWBY, is a high school dropout. She pursues a life of crime, being inspired by her sister’s. She romanticizes the idea of being a criminal though she shouldn’t.

In this AU, Summer is alive and well, so this Ruby does differ a bit from canon Ruby. She begins as a naive but very much capable girl. Though, slowly, she becomes more and more stressed with every obstacle thrown her way.

Weiss Schnee

Before the start of the story, Weiss was disowned and thrown out of Schnee Manor. She’s forced into having to survive on her own until she meets the girls.

She wants revenge against her father. She only joins the team because of it. She’s snarky and rude. Blake and Yang really only see her as a nuisance. Ruby tries to get her to come around and be a friend.

Blake Belladonna

She was originally in a different group of criminals. But, in her mind, the others don’t have to know that. She’s quiet, keeps to herself. When annoyed, she’ll lash out. She’s pessimistic as hell.

Despite her negative traits, she’s quite helpful when it comes to strategy. Their most successful jobs were because of her planning.

The others know she’s running from something. She trained and smart, she could just leave if she wanted to, but she won’t. She’s paranoid. They don’t know why. They want to ask but know she wouldn’t give a clear answer.

Yang Xiao Long

She’s always been a loose canon. She used to nag other kids on at school just so she could fight them. Summer tries to understand and talk to her. Yang can’t ever get herself to explain her actions. Especially when the reason for said actions is across the room.

Raven isn’t exactly Mom of The Year. Yang and her argue often. Because of the way Raven was raised, tough love is what she believes in.

Yang leaves home and becomes a criminal. She doesn’t even realize she’s following her mothers’ footsteps.

Jaune Arc

He’s in med school, just trying to make a living and get on with his life. Then he meets Ruby.

He gets involved in the group’s nonsense. Whenever someone is hurt, they call him to help. While grumbling “I could get arrested for this,” he patches up the girls and tells them to rest.

After Weiss, he’s Ruby’s best friend.

Nora Valkyrie

She’s an athlete in college, a social butterfly, and could kick your ass.

She also sits at the TV, watching an olympic athlete. She may or may not have developed a crush on this person she’s never met.

She was adopted by the Ren family when she was a toddler. She doesn’t know anything about her biological family, but she’s happy with her parents and brother.

Pyrrha Nikos

She is the olympic athlete Nora has a crush on.

She started out young and slowly became famous. Her neighbors growing up were the Arc family. She and Jaune became good friends. After they got older and went to pursue their passions, they’ve stopped talking as much, but they still talk whenever they can.

Lie Ren

The best friend and brother of Nora. He’s honestly so done with her shit, but he still loves her.

He’s in med school, working to be a nurse. He crosses paths with a certain blonde soon-to-be doctor. They grow closer and now Ren suddenly has this weird feeling in his stomach every time he thinks of Jaune.

Penny Polendina

Oscar Pine

Haven’t decided on much for him, but so far, I’m thinking he bumped into Qrow. Qrow was on an assignment for Oz. Oscar got so heavily involved that Qrow just had to bring him back to Ozpin. This is how he was introduced to the Ozluminati and RWBYJNPR.

He has a legitimate backstory, but I won’t be disclosing that just yet. :)

Ozpin

Also has a backstory I won’t be revealing right now! But I can share a few things about him; he’s a professor at Beacon college, it’s a cover. He’s heavily connected to STRQ and RWBY.

Glynda Goodwitch

She’s not a main character, but I think she’s worth mentioning. She’s the right hand woman of Ozpin. She is also a professor at Beacon.

Qrow Branwen

He’s the left hand man to Oz. He’s incredibly loyal to him and would do anything for him if asked to. He and Oz are in a relationship. Some would say becoming intimate like that would compromise their professional relationship, but it actually made them trust each other more. Maybe so much to the point that they’re weak without one another...

I haven’t spoken about my current fic,,, like at all lmao so...

Cloqwork Modern AU

- if you didn’t know, Oz is a trans lady in this fic because I really wanted to play with that idea.

- She was an orphan who grew up on the streets. She only got through school, life in general, thanks to Maria Calavera. Maria is the headmaster of Signal. She basically raised Oz.

- I’m thinking their first interaction is like Oz is found on campus, probably attempting to steal food, but she’s caught by staff. They bring her to the headmistress. Maria talks to her. Since she hasn’t transitioned, she assumes she’s a male. She calls her a “young man” but Oz is clearly uncomfortable by that. Maria notices and asks her “you don’t like being called that, huh?” Ozpin nods. Maria tells her “ok, what would you like to be called?” Oz shrugs. Maria says “that’s fine. We’ll figure it out. Now what’s your name, hon?”

- I think I want Weiss to learn about police brutality. She’s beginning to understand the types of things Faunus face, but she is unaware of how racist the justice system really is. Blake teaches her.

- Winter is a cop, a detective, in this AU. Now that Weiss is educated, she’ll help her older sister understand why she should quit.

- Whitely, last chapter, said some homophobic and transphobic things to Oscar. He only said these things because he’s overheard his father say them. He doesn’t actually understand what he’s saying.

- Oscar and him are forced into a school project together. They slowly become friends, maybe more 👀

- Oscar teaches Whitely about the LGBT+ community and more. Basically, thanks to Oscar, Whitely becomes a gay socialist.

- Ozpin and Qrow may end up going to some fancy ball. They ditch the party to go to a beach. Qrow jumps into the water and invites Oz to join him. She tells him she never learned to swim, she didn’t have anyone to teach her. As a solution; Qrow introduces the idea of him holding onto Ozpin and slowly bringing her deeper into the water. They have fun and it gets romantic. Qrow goes for a kiss, but Oz covers his mouth. She tells him she’s not ready. He understands and smiles at her.

- Qrow finds a scar on Oz. He asks about it, and for the first time, she opens up to him. She vaguely tells him that it was the result of a toxic relationship.

- RWBY goes to a school dance. Ruby and Blake have nice suits, and Yang and Weiss wear dresses. Bumbleby and Whiterose dance together. Ruby realizes she may have a crush on Weiss.

- Ruby and Weiss end up dating. Blake and Yang date too.

- Later on, Penny is introduced. Ruby starts crushing on her too. She gets confused about why she’s feeling like this. She may go to Oz, Qrow, or Tai for advice. Regardless of who it is, they tell her that it’s normal and she could be poly. Ruby introduces the idea of being in a poly relationship with Weiss and Penny. They think about it but eventually agree.

Modern Criminal AU

STRQ

- They all met through college. Summer managed to get through high school somehow and thought she’d put herself through more suffering by going to college. Tai’s mom would beat his ass if he didn’t go to college. The Branwen twins honestly just went so they could try to figure out what to do with their lives.

- When Raven saw Summer for the first time, she actually gasped at how beautiful she was.

- The other Branwen twin also has a crush. Qrow has his eye on his pretty history professor, Ozpin.

- They all go to the library to study. They pass by each other and see one another. Eventually, they became acquainted and started hanging out.

- They also get close with one of their professors. STRQ and Ozpin get pretty close to the point they all consider themselves friends.

- One day, the group was heading to Ozpin’s house. By accident, they find the entrance to a secret bunker.

“Sooo…” Summer whistled. “Who wants to go in first?”

Qrow, Raven, and Tai all turned to her. The Branwen Twins wore blank expressions, and Tai shrugged but still looked at her.

She gasped, “Betrayal!”

Qrow said, “You’re the only white one here. You’ll be fine. Go.” He gestured to the entrance on the floor.

Summer shook her head rapidly. “But I’m not straight! Gay characters always die in horror movies.”

Raven muttered, “Not wrong.” She thought for a moment. “What about the only straight one here?”

They all turned to Tai.

“Oh, that’s fucked up,” Tai grumbled.

“You’re male and straight,” Qrow explained. “You have more privilege than us. You’ll survive.” He then quickly murmured, “Probably.”

Tai glared at him. He took a deep breath and opened the door attached to the floor. He stepped onto the stairs and slowly walked down them.

It went silent. The only sound was the creaking of the old, wooden steps. Summer and Raven both exchanged an anxious look. Qrow gulped as he watched Tai reach the last step.

Tai paused when he stepped onto the concrete ground. He turned around and waved his hand at the others. He gave them a thumbs-up.

They walked down the stairs. They held their breath and listened for any noise.

It was dark, but they could see a faint light behind a wall a few yards away from them. Qrow reached for the wall. It was rough and rugged. He searched for a light switch. Eventually, he found it. He flipped it. The light shined and reached every corner of the room.

Tai said, flabbergasted, “Oh, my god.”

“Holy shit,” Raven muttered under her breath.

Summer remained silent, but Qrow could see her covering her mouth.

Qrow turned around to see what they were talking about. He softly gasped when he saw the walls covered with guns and knives. Papers were scattered on a desk. First aid kits were hidden in the corner. Outfits and wigs used for disguises were on racks on the side.

Qrow heard the cock of a gun. He gulped. He turned around, slow and easy. There stood his professor with a handgun. His eyes were tense. His finger rested on the trigger, ready to shoot.

“Oz?” asked Qrow. He stepped back. His eyes moved to Ozpin’s face, to the gun, and back to Ozpin.

Ozpin stared. “Why are you here? How are you here?”

“Why do you have a gun and a secret basement?” Summer shrieked.

“I’m the one asking questions, Ms. Rose,” Ozpin replied calmly.

“We were coming over to invite you to hang out,” Qrow answered nervously.

“Now, you,” Raven snarled. “Answer Summer’s question.”

Ozpin lowered the gun, but he didn’t put it down. “None of your concern.”

“Uh, I think it is,” Tai blabbered. Ozpin glared at him.

Ozpin’s eyes moved to each of them. He opened his mouth to speak, but nothing came out. He stammered, “I…”

“You what?” Raven said impatiently.

Ozpin finally said, “It’s a long story.”

“We have time,” Raven spat.

- Ozpin explained some of his story (which I won’t be explaining in this post). He invites STRQ to join him. They find out Glynda, the English professor across Ozpin’s history class, is in on it too. They learn more about the criminal underground.

- The group goes on a few heists and jobs planned by Ozpin. They remain with Oz even after they graduate. This connects some of them more than they expected. Summer and Raven start dating, and Qrow and Ozpin date.

- Summer and Raven get married and decide to have kids. Thanks to Tai being the sperm donor, Yang and Ruby are born. Yang and Ruby grow up with their two moms, Uncle Tai, Uncle Qrow, Uncle Oz, and the grumpy blonde lady who visits sometimes they know as “Glynda” AKA “Scary Lady.”

- Qrow remains loyal to Ozpin. They don’t plan on getting married, but they have a strong relationship.

Modern Criminal AU

Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang become a criminal group.

Yang had involved herself in all types of trouble since a young age. On the way, she met Blake. Blake doesn’t talk about her past, but it’s clear she’s very skilled. Yang invites her sister later on. Weiss comes along too after she realizes she needs to get away from her family, her father specifically.

They steal from the rich. They keep some of it for themselves, but most of it goes to charity. Jaune, Nora, Pyrrha, and Ren join them sometimes.

They used to work for Ozpin, but he retired from the criminal lifestyle. STRQ used to work for him too, but since they group disbanded, it stopped.

Oscar is an orphan boy who bumps into Oz one day under interesting circumstances. They become friends.

The ships will probably be Whiterose, Bumbleby, Cloqwork, Arkos, Renora, and Rosebird.

I have much more I want to talk about, but I might make this a fic in the future, so I don’t want to spoil anything.

Summer and Raven as Ruby and Yang’s Parents

This connects to the criminal au.

Summer is alive in this AU! They slowly fell in love and got together. Summer convinced Raven to get married and have kids.

Tai was the sperm donor. Raven got pregnant first and had Yang. Two years later, they decided to do the process again. Summer got pregnant with Ruby.

Ruby and Yang are aware Tai is their biological father. He’s more like their uncle though.

Evil Ruby AU

Everything is about the same until volume 8. Ruby starts stressing out more and more.

Ruby starts making more dangerous decisions. Yang, Jaune, Ren and Oscar openly speak against this, and so she turns on them.

They all find out that Ozpin is back. Oz tries to reason with Ruby. She refuses to change her mind.

Weiss, Blake, Nora, and Penny join Ruby’s side. However, Weiss seems to be the only one who is completely and utterly loyal to Ruby. The rest of them are hesitant.

During the argument, the truth about Raven being the Spring Maiden comes out, causing more tension in the air.

Ruby puts JOYR on the bench by making them go to Mantle, away from the real action up in Atlas.

Because of how Ruby is acting, seeing any of the villains will make her snap and every one is worrying what’ll happen to her.

Evil Oscar AU

I’ve written a few posts about this AU already. The tag is Evil Oscar Pine and Villain!Oscar Pine if you want to look at it.

Salem and Oz Team Up AU

The Gods are powerful— way more powerful than Salem and Oz combined— and that means that the villains and protagonists now have another, another enemy.

The Gods are clearly a threat, and Salem nor Oz can fight them so the solution is; temporarily team up. No one is happy about it, but it needs to be done. I have so many interactions in mind 👀

Oscar and Neo Become Friends

I’m not sure how it would happen, but I think they’d be good friends.

He helps her redeem herself. He gets her to listen to him and understand that Ruby didn’t kill Roman.

Oscar, for some reason, knows sign language and is the only one who can communicate with Neo.

They’re the same height and that’s hilarious to me, idk why.

Dadpin approves of this strange friendship.

5. Share one of your strengths.

I think dialogue is a strength for me (and Cali). We both enjoy dialogue-heavy scenes, and it’s always been something I felt came naturally (whether or not that’s really true and not just reading 1000 books a year as a child, who knows!). But I adore dialogue and so all my fics seem long on the page because of paragraph breaks. ^_^;;

7. Share a snippet from one of your favorite pieces of prose you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.

I may have to defer to an older work - “Missed Connections.” I included an original poem because I was daft enough to write Qrow as a modern poetry professor. I won’t post the whole thing here, because copious line breaks in a style that is rather shamelessly build off e.e.cumming’s, but I admit I don’t often post poetry, so it was amazing to see positive feedback on that work. (Poem is in the chapter linked, for the curious and/or impatient.)
