So.... I have seen this episode in many different shows. The one where the main character/mystery/etc. is an autistic child. Criminal Minds has a less than stellar reputation at tackling these, so I may have gotten prepared.
This is all in good fun and I'm pre emptively tagging this long post because I think it will be. But on we go!

The Foyet and Doyle arcs are probably the best 'big bad' arcs of the show but they still both have one massive flaw in that the setup was good and then they really do not stick the landing. Which given the similarities between 100 and It takes a village (legal inquiry things w flashbacks) makes me wonder if they run out of steam towards the end or struggled to make the story compelling within the limitations of that framing, if you get what i mean
i completely fucking agree. it feels like such a cheap way to end it? like they couldnt figure it out?? i was worried it was gonna be one of those things where they stick to a formula and call it tradition as an excuse for how bad it still is, but thankfully they stopped doing it after that
like it's just such a weird way to tell the story? why can't it be just a regular criminal minds episode lmao that wouldve been so much better, even if it was normal. i'd take 'perfectly average' over 'unnecessary narration/complication that's really just irritating' any day

This episode of Criminal Minds is criminally underrated in my opinion. The way we see Reid connecting with this child is truly astounding, and such an incredible display of his character.
But also, it’s pretty much written into canon that he’s autistic. And then in this episode he says that autistic people see patterns in ways “our brains” wouldn’t understand. So what happened to him being autistic? Just another case of the writers not being able to keep his character straight?
