Nada: Ughh... Lawrence...I see you've forgotten everything I taught you...you gotta OBEY the laws of romance, brother!! And that means YOU getting on the phone and sending your lady some roses.

Johnny: I can do that off the Internet now...it's actually pretty cool.

Nada: The what?

Johnny: I know, man....I'm about to blow your mind...(pulls open his laptop) W...W....W.....(it's so weird but you don't spell out period...yeah) get me some flowers dot C. O. M. *typed in the search box*

Nada: (looking with real interest) and then what?

Johnny: You click a picture.

Nada: No fuckin' way!

Johnny: Yeah...wild huh.

The  Agoura Hills Treatment Center.

We pull into the driveway of the treatment center and suddenly and inexplicably a heavy feeling settles in the pit of my stomach.  I had been silent most of the ride.  After our initial talk about celebrities and their issues and whether or not I should smoke...I just felt like being quiet...hiding away inside of my sweatshirt and leaning my head back against the seat.  @dr-ali-mills had started a conversation with her son and @robby-l-keene and @bobbylovesalex were in the front driving and giving directions.  I really wanted to tune out the world and listen to my iTunes and not think about things.  It didn’t seem like that was possible.  I had barely nodded off when someone was opening my door for me.  

It was a beautiful day outside.  Just the right weather on just the right scene and I was supposed to be “just the right happy”  right?  The anxiety that I had been keeping off at bay was almost instantly flaring up to a fever pitch.  My eyes darted around the area.  I saw Bobby and Robby talking together and Jase by Robby’s side.  Ali was staring at me, concerned but giving me space.  She was digging in her bag for something.  I saw people at the car taking bags out of the trunk.  I remember reading that people with anxiety should look around and count like five things they saw around them...all I was seeing was red.  

I knew I was a few minutes away from being a prisoner.  Not able to come and go as I please.  Not able to have a good time.  Not able to touch or hug or love on anyone else.  I was going to be alone.  I was going to have to tell people about my life.  I was going to have to take meds that made me sick and dizzy and always ALWAYS FUCKING SLEEPY.  “I can’t do this...” I whisper to no one in particular.  I start to pull at my hair a little.  I’m looking to someone...anyone....helpless...why doesn’t anyone see me??!!

Now, I know all of you probably have many questions, but I’ll explain the main points so that we can get on with things. I am thankful for Miguel for endeavouring to continue to teach classes while business was being sorted out. Also, Robby, tell your father that I will continue his work with honour and determination. I’m glad you joined us.

Sensei Lawrence sold this dojo, and I have bought it to keep the dojo, and the Cobra Kai name, alive. My name is John Kreese, and I am your new Sensei. 

I was Sensei Lawrence’s Sensei, and taught him in the ways of Cobra Kai. I founded the Cobra Kai philosophy of ‘Strike First, Strike Hard, No Mercy’ while serving in the Vietnam War.

I may look seasoned and beyond my best years, but I assure you, I am anything but. Now, I need a volunteer. Anyone want to put themselves forward? If not, I’ll choose.

Activeness and Passiveness in the Cobra Kai Universe

I’ve been binging cobra kai and I couldn´t help but notice a theme around balance, both literally and figuratively, take, for example, the kids eventual karate dojo choice, kids from cobra kai have mostly been more active and kids from miyagi do have been passive, now, you may not agree with what I consider to be passive and active behavior, but, I’ve noticed a few figurative rules stating what, to me, defines an eventual dojo choice (assuming im not just ranting about a show that I like anyway) and what I would constitute as being the rule to defining active/passive-ness is how the character sees change, that meaning, if the character sees change positively or negatively, for example, Johnny Lawrence is a very active character, seeking change by reinstating cobra kai, while Daniel Larusso is a more passive character resining himself to the status quo of being a car salesman, only really impacting the plot as a reaction to Johnny’s Cobra Kai (it’s important to understand the motivation in the first film too, Daniel only seeks karate because he wants to go back to his hometown, essentially disliking the nature of change, while Johnny wants his life to change by him becoming a badass) I think these two are some of the easiest to explain but this logic can also be applied to the kids too, Hawk and Dimitri are some very obvious examples, Hawk hated being bullied at school and wanted it to change, while Dimitri just wanted to wait until school ended, being essentially passive until the world decides to act for him, using those rules, there are an infinite number of ways a character could manifest behaviors that, could be classified as positive or negative actions, that could also be considered as influence, if the character influences the world negatively or positively, if his impact on the story is harmful or helpful, Kreese harmed kids by creating a state of perpetual war where the final objective is always the destruction of the enemy, Johnny helps kids overcome their individual issues, become better versions of themselves and help them shape who they want to become, they are both active, but one influences the world positively and the other negatively, a take like that could also be influenced by other people, the whole nature vs nurture debate, but I wouldn’t go into that just yet, instead I will judge characters onto themselves and actions, taken at face value and in a vacuum, for example, Dimitri is too passive and that causes harm to him and his friends, that is easily classified as natural negative behavior, Hawk, in spirit, is a glorified bully, but then you have to consider it, is that his nature? Or was that taught to him by the cobra kai dojo? I wouldn’t argue it now but someone could probably make a sound argument for both cases, my point is, in both situations, he is a negative example, overall, it’s all about balance, balance action and passiveness, balance positive and negative, yin to the motherfucking yang and all that, and, as a wise man once said, “lesson is not only to karate, lesson is for whole life” and in their individual lives, i think the kids are showing the lessons they learned.

Dr. David Livingstone’s Office

Robby and I are issued into Dr. Livingstone’s office.  I dunno that name...I’m gonna have a hard time getting it off of my tongue...It doesn’t roll right.  *I smile a tiny little smirk that apparently he doesn’t fail to catch*

“There’s what I was looking for....mind telling me why?”  His warm brown eyes crinkled at the corners.  

“Don’t worry about it...” I say nervously taking the seat he held out his hand to.  I haven’t let go of Robby’s.  I look out of the window and around the room.  He’s still watching me.  As I know they all do.  All of these therapist-types look at you like you’re a bug under a microscope.  He notices that it’s bothering me and shifts his eyes to Robby.  

“You’re close to your mother...?”  He says matter-of-factly. 

Nurse Prescott addressed me as Dr. Livingstone was making small talk with Robby.  “Miss Keene, I haven’t had time to look over your paperwork completely. Are you allergic to any foods? I don’t want the Doc there giving you some cookies that make you keel over.”

“I don’t eat much...” I say being uncooperative.  

“We have a weekly menu we adhere to while you’re with us for your stay.  I can let you look over it, sugar...but you’re welcome to bypass all if you choose...we just don’t take special requests. I just need to know if something’s gonna cause us concern.” 

“I’m allergic to eggs.”  I say...looking down at the floor.  “And pickles.”  I break out in hives and my throat closes up.”  

Nurse Prescott makes notes in her file and nods.  “Well...that kind of narrows it...but it’s something we can work with.  I’ll be back in a moment, Dr. David...I’m going to speak to the nutritionist.” 

“Thank you for sharing that with us, Ms. Keene.”  

“Please call me Shannon.”
