PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) — The Arizona Attorney General’s Office has announced that a grand jury has handed down an indictment against two Cochise County supervisors.
The indictment was filed Monday in Maricopa County Superior Court. According to the AG’s office, Peggy Judd and Terry “Tom” Crosby conspired to delay the canvass of votes cast in the county during the November 2022 General Election. Both now face felony offenses of conspiracy and interference with an election officer.
“The repeated attempts to undermine our democracy are unacceptable,” Mayes said. “I took an oath to uphold the rule of law, and my office will continue to enforce Arizona’s elections laws and support our election officials as they carry out the duties and responsibilities of their offices.”
Arizona’s Family previously reported that Cochise County Supervisors Crosby and Judd wanted to hand-count all 12,000 Election Day ballots and the approximately 32,000 early ballots. Still, a Pima County judge ruled against them, adding that they had overstepped their legal authority. Shortly after that, Judd and Crosby still voted against certifying the election, putting the county’s 47,000 votes at risk of not being counted at all. Ultimately, a judge forced the Cochise County Board of Supervisors to meet and certify results.
In January, the county’s election director, Lisa Marra, resigned under claims of a toxic work environment following the election debacle. Several months later, she received a $130,000 settlement from the county. Marra, a 10-year county employee, refused to help with the proposed hand count of ballots as she believed it was an illegal act.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.

I don’t even trust my cell phone, and it’s a flip phone, and I don’t trust it. It doesn’t always give me results, it’s not always there for me. So, it’s a difficult thing...
After refusing to certify its election, Cochise County faces lawsuits to force it to do so
this is GOP county supervisor Peggy Judd - who said the voting machines weren’t certified, despite the certification and documentation of the voting machines by the state. She knows it’s a lie.
But the good news is - this is a heavily GOP county - Most GOP candidates WON the vote in Cochise County.
So if they don’t certify - their votes will be left out of the final AZ state tabulation.
And some of the GOP representative electees will now lose and the seats will instead go to the democratic candidates - who now have more votes because the GOP in Cochise County are...not very smart.
disenfranchising your own voters is not a winning strategy

The board of supervisors in [Cochise County, Arizona] refuses to certify the county’s midterm-election results. Of course, nothing actually went wrong in Cochise County’s election. Instead, on Monday, the two Republican members of the Cochise County board outvoted its single Democrat to delay certification of the election, missing the deadline. By refusing to complete the process, these two officials chose instead to make a kind of generalized protest against imagined election fraud in Arizona.
Republicans cleaned house in the county’s results: The GOP gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake and Senate hopeful Blake Masters defeated their Democratic opponents there by 18 and 11 points respectively, even though both lost overall. Still, county GOP leaders wouldn’t take yes for an answer, and they weren’t finished sowing chaos.
Election denial before 2022: The results are automatically invalid if the other side wins.
Election denial in 2022: Even if our side wins, we’ll refuse to play ball anyway and cause enough confusion to stop any election from being fully resolved.
Update: They certified the election results, after a judge told them to do their jobs. But it’s not over — there will be more dirty tricks to come, I’m sure.

Sandhill cranes / grulla gris (Antigone canadensis) at Whitewater Draw, Cochise County, Arizona.
The Arizona Game and Fish Department estimates that the overwintering population in the county is about 42,000 cranes this year, with most of the birds occupying Willcox Playa, and only about 13,000 at the draw.
