I looove love love playing with the classic 'big tough guy rescues and protects small sort of pathetic nerd' type handsome prince story that Otasune has going on initially, but i also fucking ADORE playing with the inverse; Snake as a man needing saving despite how often he takes the role of hero in others eyes, Otacon seeing this man so battleworn and tired who has been denied any peace or a normal life and feeling such compassion and hurt burning in his heart for him that he makes a vow to stay by his side and protect him. Scrawny beanpole of a man holding this clone soldier in his arms when nightmares come for him, trying to calm him down from memories of the hell's he's walked through; whispering softly to him, reminding him he's there, he's safe. Helping bandage his wounds and massage his bruised muscles and caring for him when he grows tired and worn down; all with a look in his eye that suggests at rage bubbling silently over the fact the man he cares about has to endure this much. I just really like when Hal is in that protective role of trying to be the stronger one for Dave, this sweet sweet man with a big heart taking a look at the man under all that lore and legend and thinking who is taking care of you? Who is keeping you safe at night? Are you all alone, why must you endure this alone? I just. Clenching my fist. I fucking love when Otacon is strong in his own way, and protective in his own way; he might not be a supersoldier, he's just A Guy, but he cares and he see's the man behind the legend and decides to stick by him like his guardian angel and aaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaa They are both everything to me

So, I was thinking about who Raiden might kin. In order to keep from scanning the whole of media for an answer, I decided to keep it to franchises that are owned by Konami (so that there could feasibly a codec about it). My list goes:

One of the YuGiOh protagonists (supremely unlucky)

Alucard from Dracula (I think he’d be a die hard fan (cries cyborg tears from how cool he is))

Frogger (this needs no explanation I’m sure)

But honestly I think Alucard has the most weight behind it. He has a lot of themes that might be relatable!

He aged supernaturally fast, losing his childhood due to his father being evil, some versions killed his father for being evil. He’s a protector of the weak who views himself as inhuman. He even has ash blonde hair!

Raiden gets his arm cut off and he says “Oh Alucard, we’re really in it now” like that meme from the Good Place

anyway my final thoughts on snake eater

on the one hand i think it’s definitely my favorite gameplay style of the three i’ve played i really appreciate the introduction of automatic health regeneration and i liked being able to catch creatures and eat them… also the lack of radar map really threw me off at first but i grew to like it way more because it made me have to pay attention to what was actually happening onscreen (and not just look at the map the entire time like i did for 1 and 2 LOLLL)

the camo system is fucking awesome maybe i’m too #girl but my favorite part in any game is collecting all the clothing items so that was awesome. also didn’t know you were supposed to shoot the frogs hidden in each level until i was 80% of the way through the game i had just been going up and taking pictures of them LMFAO

anyway that being said even tho the plot was pretty strong and way more cohesive than the (lovable) shitstorm that was sons of liberty i weirdly liked that aspect of it the least? was not invested in any of the characters you could call on codec (i barely used it) all of the bosses were random and easy to me… nothing about it in that vein felt very interesting to me personally until the very last cutscene that tied everything together and the boss’s whole speech about giving birth at D Day or whatever… end of the game still hit hard af tho i did cry 🙏

definitely think my favorite game so far is the original metal gear solid bc it’s really really well balanced on all accounts imo (story, character relevance, boss fights, gameplay etc)

(However, I couldn’t find a recording of this codec call in any codec compilation videos…where is the missing frog codec?!? Please help)
