Thinking about how, narratively, Codywan is such a good foil for Anakin and Padme.

Obi-Wan and Cody are such professionals. They’re masters of loving without the dangerous attachment. Obi-Wan will put the galaxy and the Order ahead of Cody and Cody will put duty and his vod’e ahead of Obi-Wan and neither of them would want it any other way because that would go against who their partner is fundamentally as a person.

Then of course, Anakin who would fall to the darkside for the possibility of protecting Padme and Padme who ignored her duties as a Senator to hide Anakin’s crimes.

Contrasting Anakin’s possessive and controlling nature with Obi-Wan and Cody giving each other space to do what needs to be done, and hoping for the other to return to them after.

They already have the symbolism of their lightsabers. Cody finding Obi-Wan’s and taking care of it until he’s able to return it vs Anakin giving his to Padme to prove his devotion to her only to left without it when he needs it.

Just. Thinking about them; two sides of the same coin.

I will never tire of fic describing ways in which High General Kenobi and Marshall Commander Cody become/are Obi-Wan and Cody to each other. Partners, equals by choice, each other’s most trusted companion and loyal support.

Just.

*clenches fist*

It’s so lonely at the top.

Cody, who has been one amongst many all his life, never on his own, always surrounded by voices and warmth and brothers, suddenly set apart from all the vode by station and duty, and he cannot lean on them, he cannot, he has to lead and inspire and it would be unfair to place his worries and burdens on the shoulders of someone under his command and expect them to carry them with him.

And Obi-Wan, High General Kenobi, Councillor Kenobi, responsible for so much, and with so little opportunity to spend time among his people as the requirements of the war scatter the Jedi across the galaxy, the companionship of living in an entire temple filled with familiar, comforting, light force signatures replaced with hurried, harried comm calls and meetings in empty rooms filled with cold, blue holo-projections whose presence cannot be felt; his most regular contact his erstwhile padawan, the relationship with whom grows ever more distant and fraught with secrets and lies.

I love every story about these two men, with so much responsibility and so little support, finding comfort in and company with each other, someone they can confide in, someone they don't always have to be strong for, around whom, they can drop the mask of their station and can just be Obi-Wan and Cody.
