ok i’ve already had enough of the glimbow hate so here’s my obligatory post defending the F/M Ship of Color yet again

first of all, glimbow was more ambiguous than catradora was. they did say they loved each other, and bow did kiss her forehead, but they’ve always been affectionate both verbally and physically with one another. so if you want to read the scene between them as platonic, that’s like... totally within your right. healthy friendships between men and women that don’t turn romantic are a sorely underrepresented type of relationship in media, so i get why people want them to remain platonic.

but please consider that their gender is not the only thing at play here (and that bow is often seen as trans-coded, but that’s not canon so i won’t focus on that)

how many relationships in cartoons between an asian girl and a black boy can you name? i know absolutely zero. especially not any with as much development as they have. i can hardly name any friendships with as much depth, warmth, complexity and love as theirs has, at all. they love one another and have been through everything together, and theirs is a healthy love if i have ever seen one.

their relationship is good representation for asian girls and black boys everywhere, even people of color as a whole.

so white gays, please consider, before you go on your tirade about glimbow being a “het ship from nowhere” consider who this relationship is actually for. because it’s not for you. it’s for people of color, possibly bi people, possibly trans people, but people of color especially.

so i want to talk about this particular ss of seahawk and mermista

as well as this one

and how they’re both very important in showing the viewers mermista’s true feelings for seahawk and that is that

when unguarded — either because she is elated and happy, as in the first ss, or because she is in shock, as per the second ss — how she really feels shows.

in the second one, her first instinct when afraid is to cling to seahawk. you can tell by the angling and positioning of the two that mermista clung to him first. if mermista really disliked seahawk as much as she says she does, her first instinct when afraid would not be to grab onto him. they seem natural like that, too.

and in the first one, she is so happy and celebratory over the horde’s defeat that she forgets to continue the facade of indifference/ hatred for seahawk, and her first instinct is to turn to him and smile widely. she looks comfortable with his arm around her, not at all like someone who truly despises him.

in conclusion: mermista just puts on airs because that’s her personality and she really does love seahawk

catradora really is lesbian sasunaru but people keep framing catra as the sasuke of the two and like, narratively, that’s completely wrong

- the horde and konoha share a lot in common in their corruption, brain washing, lies and covering up of their acts of genocide, using literal children as soldiers of war, etc.

- when sasuke finds out the truth behind the uchiha massacre he defects; when adora finds out the truth of the horde and their genocidal acts, she defects.

- both naruto and catra choose to stay on the side of imperialism and warmongering despite knowing the truth behind them.

basically she ra is what we should’ve gotten from naruto. it flips the scripts and tells the story from the pov where the rebel forces are the good guys, and the imperialists are the bad guys, unlike in naruto where the missing nin and defectors and anyone who had voiced dissent against the state were the villains. and hopefully in she ra, catra will come to see the error of her ways and join adora in her fight against the state.
