oh? what’s this? an actual original post from yours truly? yes, indeed indeed it is ;)

ummmmm ok so latest recap: entering second year of undergrad in exactly two weeks which i didn’t actually realize until just now and holy shit that is so soon wtf.

what’ve i been up to lately? uhhh after winter term, i did intro to chem in summer school in may-june, but otherwise have mostly been working (part-time retail) and chilling w friends/my bf and going on adventures together. tbh my one goal for this summer was to actually just relax for once because i can’t remember the last time i had a summer where i got to just do my own thing so i’m pre happy with what i’ve done :)

also, i’ve started a bullet journal, so hopefully even if my class notes are pre ugly, i have something else i can post on here!

tbh i don’t really listen to any podcasts but i did listen to the edge of sleep and 36 questions and really liked them! i also quite enjoy cbc’s radio show quirks and quarks and i think they offer it in podcast form now too

no but i figured it’d probably be good if i actually continued w the february productivity challenge sooo… here we are :)

feb 2 - what are you reading right now?

for class, i’m reading sheila watt-cloutier’s memoir “the right to be cold.” she’s inuk and one of the world’s most recognized environmental and human rights activists, fighting to protect the Arctic. (she was even co-nominated for the nobel peace prize with al gore!) i’m only a few chapters in but it is an incredibly eye-opening read and i would definitely recommend it.

i also recently read “the invisible life of addie larue” and “a darker shade of magic” by v. e. schwab, both of which i really enjoyed.

feb 3 - what’s your nighttime routine like?

feb 4 - what would you describe your study method as?

chaotic, not as good as it could be or as it has been in the past.. we’re working on it, y’know?

hi! it’s been a while…. time flies like a crazy and just.. i can’t believe i started this in grade 11 and now i’m in my second semester at university!! anyways, these are some of my research notes for a big paper i wrote last semester on the fast-fashion industry. still have procrastination issues and so uhh, yeah i had to do like 80% of my research and write all 10 pages in the like 4 days before it was due but,,,, i got it done :’) and honestly i was really proud of it. really hoping to not have to ever do something like that again tho LOL

it’s been a whileee i know,, but let’s get into it i guess (ft. my messy messy biology notes)

thought i’d hop on and join @myhoneststudyblr’s new challenge :)

day 1 - hello! i’m jessica, i’m in grade 12, and this semester i have calculus+vectors, biology, english, and jazz. next one i have world history, chemistry, physics, and philosophy.

day 2 - my url just comes from my main blog’s and i just adjusted it a bit bc i have a terrible memory for that kinda thing 😅

day 3/4 - i made this blog to try and motivate myself to maintain proper notes throughout the semester rather than just before tests and exams (which i have done, i just haven’t posted a lot of them LOL), and i’ve had it since i think this january

day 5 - i haven’t done a challenge to completion yet just bc the idea of posting everyday is Very Overwhelming

day 6/7 - i’m hoping with this challenge to maybe meet some new people! and also post at least semi-regularly 😆 those also my goals in general for this blog

starting @myhoneststudyblr’s 2020 quarantine challenge a week late but i’m just gonna put the first couple days all in this post :)

march 23 (monday) - have you made a study schedule to help you study at home?

not exactly a schedule, but every day i try to make a plan for the next day and to follow it as best as i can. it’s hella flexible tho, but that’s similar to the nature of my school (self-paced)

march 24 (tuesday) - how are you being taught your lessons?

as of right now, i’m technically not 😅 i believe this week our advisor teachers will be communicating with us how we will be moving forward from here. luckily for me though, since my school is, as i already mentioned, self-paced, almost all our work and lessons is typically already online from the beginning of each semester. so, thus far i’ve just been slowly completing some extra tasks, as we were instructed to finish any uncompleted work, but i was already on track or ahead in all my courses when the schools were closed for march break/isolation.

march 25 (wednesday) - what’s your favourite study snack?

i don’t really like to eat while i do work, as i then constantly feel the need to wash my hands, but i like to have a mug of tea or coffee next to me, though i often let it go cold before getting around to finishing it :p

march 26 (thursday) - how are you keeping active?

i’ve been using our treadmill, following basic workouts on youtube, and playing ping pong with my parents by turn every day, as well as taking my dog for a walk with them most days.

march 27 (friday) - what is your favourite subject/topic to study at the moment?

the courses i have right now are english, advanced functions, biology, and physics, all of which i enjoy, so all i can say is the one that i like Slightly Less is functions. but i find math quite fun, if occasionally frustrating. physics too as my teacher is a bit of a mad scientist and loves to mess with us, but he’s a Cool Dude.

march 28 (saturday) - where in your house is your favourite place to study?

uhh, my room i guess, at my desk with the main light off, blinds open, and lamp on for that #ambience. we have a long dining table as well that we don’t typically use, where you can look into the garden and are surrounded by a lot of indoor plants which is nice for feeling like a fictional character sometimes when the lighting is just right.

march 29 (sunday) - what are you doing to relax?

drawing, listening to music and playing my instruments more, and talking with friends :)

march 30 (monday) - take a picture of your desk/study space.

my desk is quite boring (very empty) so take the art wall i’m starting by it instead. yes, my desk is very reflective. i will also take this time to confess that i am in love with ben fankhauser, thank you, have a nice day.

the world’s falling to pieces but the gears keep on turning. we’re into the last month of school before summer but it’s hard to focus on or even care about school with everything going on in the world. but ignorance breeds hate, making education is our greatest weapon. whoever said ignorance is bliss was a fucking idiot.

friday - what is your favourite idiom (in any language)?

“刻舟求剑” (kè zhōu qiú jiàn) which literally translates as “to mark the boat to find ones sword” which basically means to keep using an ineffective strategy, despite changing circumstances, which i think is pretty applicable right now

saturday - what is your favourite word (in any language)?

epiphany is a fun word, idk if i have a favourite one tho..

sunday - what is the most important phrase in your native language that someone should know?

“could you repeat that slower, please?” or for mandarin, “您好” (nín hăo, hello but make it respectful bc the chinese are judgemental AF)

monday - what is your biggest pet peeve?

people who will argue with you about anything, even on the most inconspicuous topics, or if they don’t even have an opinion, but they just like to “debate”

question of today: do your sleeping habits change during the summer?

yeah, i usually end up going to bed later and then just waking up whenever without setting an alarm. it starts by waking up around 10ish and gradually gets earlier until i’m waking around 7 naturally, but it’s a very delicate process 😔 one misstep and i’m back to 10am

april 1 (wednesday) - take a picture of your most colourful notes. 

first two are for biology, third is for advanced functions. i typically use the same colour scheme for all my courses as it’s easier for me to not have to worry about what different colours indicate in different subjects. too many colours makes me that much more distracted, and outside of test reviews i usually tend to just use a black pen and a mechanical pencil. that being said, in history, wherein i absolutely just lose my mind..

...you get this mess of research; fuelled by looming deadlines, jet-lag, and indignation at our historical mistakes, emphasized with multicoloured notes in between the lines. actually, this isn’t even the craziest example, but the mess of ancient history research from last semester can never see the light of day again.
