Okay since MCR and Dracula Daily have taken over the site its time to throw a vampire themed book rec out into the void
"Coldest Girl in Coldtown" is an amazing vampire novel by Holly Black. It's about a girl who wakes up as the only living, uninfected survivor of a vampire massacre and her journey to Coldtown, the vampire quarantine city of glamor and media fame. She's joined by her newly infected ex-bf and a mysterious half-mad vampire and faces several horrors while struggling to remain human.

The Coldest Girl in Coldtown would honestly make such a great movie, or like a limited run CW show, it’s shocking it hasn’t been adapted yet

Okay serious question but the first time I read Coldest Girl In Coldtown (2016ish) I SWORE it was in first person but the copy I have now, my fanfic pdf, anf my audiobook are all in third limited.
Did it change? Or was young me the victim of some weird weird weird mandela effect?

Holly Black: emphasizing the brutal, horrific nature of fairies, vampires, and magic in general with the strong implication to not glorify those things. In fact repeatedly killing characters who do.
Me: romanticizing fairies, vampires, and magic even harder.

I wanna talk about the weird Holly Black Vampire Pandemic Book, please. Can I please just talk about the road trip with vampires and a weirdo guy, please? He was such a little weirdo and they tried to put him in skinny hot boy jeans and he was still so deeply freaky, I loved it.

I’m rereading The Coldest Girl in Coldtown, still the best job of any book I’ve read at making being a vampire simultaneously sound really really cool and really really awful.

It’s funny reading any of Holly’s love interests prior to Cardan and seeing just how nice they all are (messed up sure, but terribly gentle with their significant other, even prior to getting together).
And then you sit down to an author discussion and find out the reason Cardan Is Like That is because Holly kept on handing the manuscript over to reading partners, and Leigh was like ”he CAN BE MEANER. MAKE HIM MEANER” and that is absolutely hilarious, and also explains Holly’s departure from her classic love interest archetype.

«and if i never change back? if i’m not human enough anymore?»
he smiled; she could feel it against her skin. «then we’ll go hunt vampires together and you’ll drink their blood.»
«the lady or the tiger,» she said.
«my lady, the tiger.»
