🌱 02.17.2024 I'm so lazy and tired that I couldn't bother to put some stuff away so I could have more space on my desk. Plus, I have an assessment due 4 pm and an online class for the whole day. I don't know if I can make it but pray for me please. (╥﹏╥)

My neuro science teacher arrived two minutes late the first day, proceeded to ask “okay what class is this?”
Then when answered he just. started lecturing. he never took out notes.
About half way through he recommended a textbook but told us to pirate it because the author was a dick to him at a conference.
He has also said “brains are dumb and they hate you. Don’t trust them”
Should I be concerned?

Today in my life development class we were going over the topic of developing sexuality and all that fun stuff and my teacher was being very distinct in saying “there is a big difference between intimate and sexual relationships, intimate relationships can be formed between any people that you have a close bond with” and I felt so validated to hear that, it was so exciting
and then she took it a step further later by saying that adolescence is when most people start forming their sexuality “or not, because the asexual identity exists and is a lot more common than we think” and idk just hearing a teacher talking about asexuality so casually and with such certainty made me feel very real and very seen

Okay, so my college classes started again today and I ended the day with the first lecture of my military history class. Now, I don't usually like military history because it very much is the Dude Bro type of history that I don't jive with. However, I am taking this class because:
Even if it is Dude Bro History, I love history in all forms and want to learn more about it
I'm an engineering student with too many fucking calculus, physics, and electronic classes and my mind needs to think about something other than STEM before it breaks
I fucking LOVE my professor. I had him last semester for a European history class and he was the best. He was very much against what he calls "asshole history." Aka, the type of history that focuses on one, usually white, Christian man who "shaped the course of history" until it shuffled onto the next one. He never mentioned Henry VII or Shakespeare except in passing, but he was the first person to teach me about Alessandra Strozzi, Baruch Spinoza, and Olaudah Equiano. So once I saw he was teaching another class this semester, I was like "Okay, but only because it's you, Awesome Professor."
Anyway, today was the first lecture of Military History taught by Awesome Professor. As should have probably been expected, the class makeup was 80% Dude Bros who need to cover their liberal studies credit. We get in, go over the syllabus, do an icebreaker, and Awesome Professor pulls up a PowerPoint slide with the Battle of Thermopylae and the Battle of Gettysburg side by side.
Awesome Professor: "Can anyone tell me the connection between these two battles?"
Some answers are offered. One Dude Bro goes on a soliloquy about war tactics and drools over the 500 Spartans. Awesome Professor corrects him and says that there were way more Greek factions there than Sparta. More answers are offered. A different Dude Bro does a different soliloquy about Robert E. Lee and the Confederate Army. Awesome Professor shoots back about Meade having the superior defensive position. More answers come in. I offer that both the Greeks and the Union soldiers were vastly outnumbered. A few more answers.
Awesome Professor: "Those were all wonderful answers, but unfortunately, you're all wrong. The major connection between these two battles is.... they're the only battles we will ever discuss in this class."
This wonderful, wonderful man then goes on to say that we will NOT be getting into war tactics. We will NOT learn about weaponry. We will NOT be reading quotes from famous generals. We will instead be learning about the cultural impact of war, all sides of every conflict, how militaries and wars affect technology that isn't weapons (preserved foods, medical innovations, etc.), how to recognize war-time, pre-war, and post-war propaganda, and female and nonbinary individuals' experiences during war.
The hundreds of Dude Bros start gaping like fish and sputter about "How can you teach WAR if you don't talk about WAR?". I'm holding back cackles as they slowly realize that they will not be getting spoon-fed the classic Dude Broe history. I genuinely cannot wait to go to my next lecture and count how many people drop the class.
In conclusion: definitely give college history classes a try, even if they aren't your usual first pick. Especially if you know the professor is amazing and knows how to teach about the scope of history rather than shuffling from one asshole to the next.

november 28, 2023 - tuesday week 1
going to try to return to posting here! unfortunately i'm not doing research this quarter, so we won't have any fun stories there, but i have four rather intense chemistry classes and am starting work at my school's brand new writing center, so there will be plenty of stuff to talk about regardless!
i don't have too much homework yet and have wednesdays off this whole term, so it's still smooth sailing. i did buy my first energy drink today, though, and i think i'll have to make a habit of that since i start at 8am most days and nearly fall asleep in my first class if i didn't get a solid 8 hours of sleep (which happens... never). i was pleasantly surprised by how good it tasted LOL
i've got a heavy dose of extracurriculars tonight - wish me luck!
song of the day: beware - deftones

I would appreciate some advice, I haven’t been putting myself out (academically) because of a fear of rejection for a while, this year I decided to change that. I applied to a club related to my major I was interested in, and courses in my university. They don’t filter out participants in these courses, so I got an acceptance email with the details and attended the courses, I learned, benefited, and was excited to attend more courses, so I signed up for multiple courses outside of my university. It’s been a couple weeks and the club has sent acceptance letters, I kept checking my email and my spam folder, but I got nothing. The courses I signed up for sent acceptance letters, nothing. I didn’t expect it to hurt but it does. I know they can’t possibly accept everyone but I want to improve myself and learn more, but it’s hard when I keep getting rejected, and the door gets shut in my face. I don’t want to limit myself to my university’s courses (but I won’t not apply if it interests me). Any advice on dealing with this feeling of rejection (and a bit of inferiority to those who got accepted)? And how would you recommend I develop myself.
Thanks for your advice xx
Hi love. I'm sorry you're dealing with this. Rejection sucks, especially when you're really excited and passionate about an opportunity.
It's completely normal (and healthy) to feel upset. Here are a few tips on how to deal with rejection:
Acknowledge the decision was outside of your control. Therefore, you never know what external factors played a significant role in the outcome. Detaching your contribution is the simplest way to not take the rejection personally and start moving past it
Choose to believe that all the opportunities meant for you will work out with a fair amount of effort/consideration on your part
Remember, before being in the trenches, you're perceiving the opportunity with rose-colored glasses – you don't even know if the reality of the opportunity equates with the vision in your head, so except that you're mourning a fantasy above all else
Consider why a specific rejection was triggering and find ways to work through/change the behaviors or patterns that lead to this insecurity
Figure out what you want, especially given this setback, and take daily action to actively pursue these goals (in this case, applying for courses and speaking with professors/fellow members on campus about more personal/professional development opportunities
Hope this helps xx

One of the good things about writing fanfiction is that it helps me IMMENSELY with school work. I’m taking a intro to fiction writing class at the moment and my professor has yet to realize the majority of finished assignments I turn in are just Owl House fanfiction with different names. We recently had a big workshop project where we had to turn in and 8-page story for the class to read and analyze and I wrote a human/band Au for Hunter as my submission. I plan to post it on AO3 soon but if it’s something y’all would like to see on here I’d love to post the story premise or some fanart if I get around to it. Let me know in the comments and thanks again y’all for all the support🫶

My last classes in college as undergrad student
So FINALLY, I’m on senior semester and I chose some extra classes with my only compulsory class. So, here it is!
Geoprocessing: Basically, advanced studies in GeoInfo and mapping software
Costal Geomorphology: Yeah, I needed to take it again. It’s the last compulsory one, it studies the geographical forms from costal areas. I suck on this? Yeah, but I need my diploma.
Brazilian Climatology: Special topics in Brazilian climate
Climate Variability: I really dunno how explain this one… basically, what’s a normal climate variation and what’s an anomaly??? Something like that!
And, of course, I have the final grad project (a study about native plants in costal areas as a tool for mitigation of climate change’s consequences) and the internship in geography
Wish me luck! 🍀

Hey hey ^.^
A good buddy of mine needs responses for their marketing class (business major 🤝 stem major), so if you have the time and are willing to, please please consider taking this survey.
Apparently they have 30/100 responses needed for the grade thus far (and their teammates aren't exactly "reliable"...).
It’s about influencer marketing and doesn't require any knowledge about marketing. It’s anonymous and only takes about 10-15 minutes at most.
Thanks for the help <3

december 6, 2023 - wednesday week 2
went on a grocery trip and proctored an exam for the pledges of my fraternity today! also got some stuff done for the pharmacology assignment due tomorrow, and finished a couple of physical chemistry assignments.
trying to take advantage of my free time to get back into reading - have been chugging through the audiobook of i'm glad my mom died by jennette mccurdy (which i highly recommend) and trying to finish up my read of the crow by alison croggon (which i started in august).
