The PROM PROTOCOL is a story I really hope to write out some day. But if I never do, the general outline is as follows: think the Kansas farmhouse front porch, around past midnight. There's a figure on a porch swing - Jeff. Waiting up. Steps crunch the gravel and stop to an abrupt halt by the porch. Scott hasn't been expecting Dad to wait up for him like this. Scott is past his curfew.

The party had been a long and ardorous negotiation - Jeff was weary, because springbreak and highschool seniors (and juniors) usually equals underage drinking and recreational edibles or pot, or who knows what else, especially if somebody's college freshman sibling is doing the chaperoning. Scott was adamant and made a good case of being the most responsible and reliable sixteen year old in the history of ever - youngest President of the class, Prom King nominee, Team captain and projected valedictorian at the graduation (early graduation for him, because he worked his a** off over summers taking extra AP credit and got early admission to Yale), consummate big brother. Besides, he promised to take Stacey the Girlfriend to THE springbreak party. Surprisingly, Virgil and John chimed in on Scott's side with a good case too - he deserved a night off, as big brother had nearly run himself to the ground the years Mom was gone, while Jeff buried himself in grief and more work. Jeff doesn't enjoy thinking back on the boy's translucent pale face on the hospital sheets and the drip of IV in the deafening silence. Jeff gets the reasoning, but he's not ready. Not ready for Scott to be growing up and leaving for college (John soon to follow, skipping a class the genius his ginger is), not ready for things to change, not ready for the boys not needing him soon, not ready for Scott being serious to take up his Ivy League degree parallel to the AirForce program.

Anyhow, this one time Dad conceded and is now sitting up on the porch, waiting for the eldest to be back past the curfew, minutes away from rising up Kyrano to start a state-wide search and rescue. But Scott is walking back. WALKING. Jeff is absolutely certain the boy left in his car to pick up the girlfriend and then drive her back home. And to ensure there would be no succumbing to peer pressure to drink at the party. Jeff is ready to rain thunder and lightning, assuming that's what happened - drinking, smoking, something irresponsible.

But Scott is shivering in his windbreaker, hands deep in his pockets, face visibly stricken with tears. He walked all the way from the town to the farm in the middle of the night. Somebody's college freshman brother home on a break being far more alluring to the Prom Queen nominee is what happened. Vicious and biting, and humiliating words happened. First love crashing and burning in an instant is what happened. Scott was shaken too much and couldn't drive. So he walked all the way home.

Jeff manages to coax the boy up the porch, on a swing and into his lap. Quiet, hot tears are back. So help him, Jeff is not ready. That was to be Lucy's area - nursing bruises, kissing away booboos and heartbreak. Jeff is not ready. He wants to tell his boy there will never be pain and betrayal again. He wants to make sure there isn't. Ever. But he can't. Jeff wants to keep Scott and his brothers safe from any danger of the world. But he's not sure he can reliably ward off more heartbreak. So he just holds the crying child on the cusp of adulthood and wishes his wife were still there.

Scott is still grounded - he didn't call Dad to pick him up, and walking alone at night was very dangerous. He'd be grounded till the Prom (Jeff is not cruel enough to let the school have no Prom King). That's where the problem is, unexpectedly. Scott's not going. Stacey the ex girlfriend now has that college freshman as a Prom date to show off. Everyone would know he was dumped. He has no date and doesn't have the heart to go anymore. Jeff really, really wishes Lucy were there. He's out of his depth.

That's when the rustle on the porch roof happens and a lithe, agile form slithers expertly down to the rails. John. John, who too is not asleep. John, who was probably stargazing past his bedtime or too lowkey waiting up for his biggest brother. John would go with Scott to the Prom. John is graduating next winter, so will miss his own Prom - nobody will ask questions. That dries the tears, at least, and has Scott sit up from Dad's lap. John HATES social anything. It will be loud, and flashy, and crowded, and LOUD. John would be uncomfortable. Scott can't have that. Exactly! Everyone knows the Ginger Tracy hates that kind of scene. And everyone knows Scott always has a posse of little brothers. So, if Scott is too upset, or not having fun, or overwhelmed - nobody would bat an eye that he had to take the "ginger weirdo" back home. John is calm and completely logical - clearly he had it all thought through. But what if Scott is having a good time and John is uncomfortable at a big party?

That's when more rustle on the porch roof happens and a bleary eyed Virgil parcours down too. Jeff is more or less resigned that bedtime is just not a thing that day, apparently. In THAT case, Virgil is going to the Prom too. Everyone know his two brothers are graduating early, so they won't be around for his Prom. It's a sound cover up. If Scott is enjoying himself, but John needs to leave - Virgil would accompany him home and make sure he's not overestimulated by the noise and the crowd. And Virgil would still have his own Prom to go to next year, if he wanted a big ole party. And thus - The Prom Protocol is born.

In the end, it's a huddle on the porch swing - Jeff holding Scott curled up in his lap, John leaning into Dad's side, and a semi-asleep Virgil draped over Scott's still shivering form for warmth and comfort. Still, Jeff is not ready. Amazed by the bond his boys share, but not ready to let them go.

✨ Biography:

For as long as Claude could remember it has been imbedded in his brain that everything was to always be in proper order. He practically grew up in the Beaufort estate alongside his two best friends, Blaise and Adam. Claude’s father worked with Adam’s and Blaise’s mother worked as staff for Adam’s family. Claude was never very close with his family. He loved them, sure, but they weren’t very lovey-dovey people. Growing up the three often butted heads. Blaise and Claude were polar opposites and the two were always bickering but at the end of the day they were the best of friends. Adam was different than them though. He wasn’t as playful or carefree as kids his age and Claude understood why. Adam’s father was a cruel man and Claude hated the way the man treated his wife and son. And when Adam’s mother passed at such a young age he was the first one by his friend’s side to console him. Blaise may be his bestie but Adam always held a special place in Claude’s heart. As they got older Claude was always the one that Adam confided in, and he was the first person that Adam called after the man snapped and killed his father. Claude knew this was all wrong but with the help of Blaise they covered it up, pinned the crime on someone else, and moved on. Things were fine and well. Claude was working on his master’s degree all while finding the time to socialize and go on dates. Claude had never been one to date in high school. He was teased quite a bit but Adam and Blaise were always there to back him up. They were the only two that knew he was gay and it wasn’t until college he actually came out to his family who, unfortunately, were not as accepting as his friends. It was difficult for Claude to deal with but at the end of most days he was alright. There would always be ups and downs with not being accepted by one’s family but as he had never been close to them and was already an adult he was managing just fine.

The night of the storm was scary. Claude had never been so petrified in his life. The storm itself was scary but when an old woman had come to the door seeking shelter and Adam turned her away things got worse. Everything was strange for a bit and when Claude came to and saw a horrifying beast where Adam had previously stood he started to cry. Now, magic had always been something out of the realm of possibility to Claude. It just didn’t seem possible. Yet, there his friend was....a beast. It seemed that everyone at the party on the night of the storm had some sort of...curse. Adam was doomed to turn into a beast every full moon, Blaise lost his sense of taste, and Claude...well, he had no sense of time. His entire life he was a very punctual person. Always early and never even a minute late anywhere. He’s always been the responsible type and very strict with routine. It was like his whole life took a 180. The next day he was late because he forgot to set his alarm and when he checked the time in the morning the numbers were all blurry. He literally could not tell time no matter what. It was very difficult to cope with at first. It didn’t matter if it was a clock with hands or the one on his phone. Mornings and nights all started to blend together and he often had difficulties differentiating the time of day. It was either sun’s up or sun’s down. Thankfully, Blaise was always there to remind him of things. Which was...embarrassing. Blaise is the most irresponsible man Claude knows. (He says that with love.) Yet, his best friend almost always called him every morning to wake up. In the last semester of his master’s degree Claude was kicked from the university. He had missed too many days because of his inability to keep up with time. Homework was always late because he didn’t know the deadlines and overall he was struggling. He was pretty devasted, but his friends were there to support him. Besides, he had a career. Sort of. He actually had his father’s old job. After everything went down Adam fired pretty much everyone from the restaurant chain. Claude was appointed executive manager of the company, which was pretty much just a fancy way of saying he did everything Adam should be doing. He was always picking up his friend’s slack while doing his own job. It could be stressful at times, but Claude just did things at his own pace. It drove him crazy that he wasn’t as quick and punctual as he once was, but he’s managing. Most days (or nights) he’s working to keep the company afloat all while trying to figure out a way to break this god awful curse that’s inflicting himself and all his friends.

Belle Villeneuve: She asks too many questions and has somehow weaseled her way into their friend group. Claude doesn’t dislike her, but he is wary of her. She seems nice enough and Blaise is convinced she’s the key to breaking their curse, so she can’t be too bad. Besides, Adam’s even seemed to take a liking to her.

Celine Potts: The only sane person Claude feels he has around him sometimes. She’s down to earth and is always there for anyone when they need her, which is often.

Winston Rabbit: The two hook up from time to time but the fact that Winston is always late really bugs Claude. Not that it really matters at this point, but it’s still frustrating.

How Ben Solo Became A Martyr

If anyone were to pull me into a Hollywood studio office or lunch at some see-and-be-seen L.A.-area restaurant (personally, I like The Ivy) and ask me, a lifelong t.v. and movie viewer, what should show runners, directors, writers, and anyone who has a creative say in a production avoid doing, one thing I would say is, “Don’t unintentionally make a character a martyr.”

I don’t mean the sense of being a martyr in-universe but being a martyr to the audience.

First I should define what I mean by “martyr.” In a Christian sense, it’s a particular kind of saint who suffers and dies a horrible death for his or her faith. In a secular sense it can describe anyone who suffers and/or dies horribly for a cause or that suffering/death calls attention to a matter of injustice. This can also be applied in a more colloquial sense, such as when anyone suffers in some way or tries to use the impression of suffering to elicit sympathy.

If anyone at Lucasfilm is wondering why there’s a tribe of people on social media doing Ben Solo hashtags, making pins, and putting blue butterfly emojis on their handles, I’m here to tell Lucasfilm it’s because you guys made Ben Solo into a martyr to the audience.

First, they made Kylo Ren/Ben Solo Han and Leia’s son/Anakin and Padmé’s grandson. This makes him an easy investment for fans who have loved those characters for decades. The killing Han Solo part might have made a certain segment of longtime fans so angry at Kylo they not only couldn’t forgive him but they didn’t even want him redeemed but others could see how the death clearly affected him which elicits sympathy and compassion.

Second, they got an extremely talented, charismatic actor to play Kylo/Ben. Adam Driver refused to play Kylo as a one-dimensional mustache-twirling killing-machine villain. He added subtlety, nuance, and humanity to the role, all the while captivating the audience. That he’s also sexy didn’t hurt. As bad as Kylo could be, we also see the soft underbelly, the hints of the real Ben Solo hiding behind the persona. He managed to create the kind of hero we’d been hoping to see in the ST within a short amount of time and practically no dialogue. That’s extraordinary. Driver took Kylo as seriously as he takes any other role. He could’ve been making a bunch of other Oscar-nominated movies instead and we all know it. Getting him was a gift and some fans out there think it was ultimately kind of wasted.

Third, if TFA hinted at Kylo’s humanity, Rian Johnson made it entirely the point of Kylo’s arc in TLJ. When Kylo destroyed his helmet, Johnson was able to let Driver go nuts with a script that treated its characters like human beings instead of caricatures. While Kylo was still capable of evil and all-around bad guy-ness, we also saw someone who could be gentle and caring, a tortured young man struggling with deep remorse, a lonely soul who can only find connection with someone who’s supposed to be his enemy, and sometimes, a hero. Those pleading puppy dog eyes and trembling lips did a lot to elicit sympathy from filmgoers. That he’s also sexy didn’t hurt.

Fourth, both the films and ancillary material showed Ben was subjected to abuse and suffered greatly for the mistakes of his elders. Ben was targeted at conception and suffered with voices in his head most of his life. A kitchen droid tried to take him out. His parents were too busy doing whatever to really give him the attention he needed, even though Leia was aware some outside force was after her son. His parents ultimately feared him and his emotional freak outs. Han and Leia shipped him off to Luke’s poor man’s version of Hogwarts, leading to some deep abandonment issues. Luke almost killed him in his sleep. The very popular The Rise of Kylo Ren comics series basically acquitted Ben of everything he supposedly did leading up to his fall. Then Kylo is verbally and physically abused by Snoke. This has created a tremendous amount of sympathy for Ben, especially by those who have struggled with any number of real-world problems. They identified with him. Hollywood as of late has coded a lot of villainous or antihero characters as having mental illness or being neurodiverse or having addiction problems as well as enduring physical and verbal abuse. I get that writers want to enrich these characters and make them relevant to a modern audience and that actors like the challenge in playing them but I also think Hollywood is being a little irresponsible about it. Not only is it potentially stigmatizing it also seldom has a solution to those characters’ arcs other than death. How is someone living with bipolar disorder or autism finding a kindred spirit of sorts in Kylo/Ben going to feel about the constant message that such a life isn’t worth living? Ben just suffers and suffers and suffers and gets nothing for it.

Fifth, we’re presented with material depicting Ben’s youth. Ben, when he’s not getting the stuffing kicked out of him by life, is quite lovable and as a child, adorable. At least with Anakin Skywalker, we’re supposed to appreciate the tragedy of a good person who was loved falling to the Dark Side. With Ben it makes us love him 10x more and at the same time make us even more upset they unceremoniously killed off that darling little moppet who played with butterflies, ran around the house naked, and begged his daddy to come home.

Sixth, it didn’t seem like Ben was sufficiently loved either in the films or by Lucasfilm. Or, to put it this way, whatever gestures Han, Leia, or Luke tried to throw Ben’s way were cases of too little too late. I always wondered why, if Leia knew Snoke was manipulating Ben, she didn’t go out to find the mo-fo and kill him? I would! Leia tries to reach out to Ben in TROS but in the movie it comes off as her distracting him so Rey could inflict a fatal wound. In fact, the weird thing about TROS is it feels like Leia was trying to take out Ben all along: the distraction, ensuring Rey takes up her “Jedi path” which Leia knew full well this would somehow lead to Ben’s death, and finally her disappearing the same time he does. It’s weird! Han tries to save Ben but he’s a muggle who’s no match against his unstable son gifted with magic powers and lightsaber abilities. Luke apologizes in TLJ but never had anything to say to his nephew again. Adding insult to injury, the Blue Ghostie Exposition Scene From Hell establishes Luke and Leia as resigned to Ben’s fate all along, kicking their flesh and blood to the curb for a surrogate more to their liking. It’s horrible! The worst is of course his soulmate barely reacting to his death. In the end nobody cared. He’s like the kid who cleans up his act, gets good grades, gets into a decent college, and his family couldn’t care less. The movie abruptly kills him off and it’s on to cheering and celebrations. Nobody remembers or speaks of Ben and he’s not seen again in any form. Four-five months after the film has come out, there’s no official Ben merchandise or collectibles. It’s like “Ben Solo? Don’t know him.” You just know that every time the Star Wars social media team has to mention him or post something with him in it, they’re muttering under their breath, “Oh God, here it comes again.”

So they got a number of fans to empathize with Kylo/Ben and hope for his redemption as well as a chance at happiness after a lifetime of abuse and suffering, only to kill him off in a sudden and graceless manner. There’s no payoff for Ben or the audience. He’s just...gone. To us it doesn’t seem right. It seems cruel and unjust. But fans are also a tenacious lot so they’re hoping Lucasfilm will realize it made a mistake and correct it. In the meantime, Ben lives on in our fan fics, edits, fan art, and fan merchandise.

Mystic Messenger Saeran’s AE Thoughts (.......And Prayers..) #Spoilerz

Hello, I just finished Saeran’s after ending and I have a lot of things to say and I am going to write it down while I'm still all keyed up about it.

First of all… Please DO NOT ask me how much money I spent to finish this as fast as I did…. I’m grown but my bank account is certainly going to have a good ole fashioned CHUCKLE at this….. It’s been a long quarantine I deserve a lil happiness as a treat methinks!

I have been playing this absolutely insane game since I think 2016? When I first started playing the deep routes had JUST come out I think? And I was just finishing up high school and am now a college grad...lmao

I’ve played all routes at least once except Jaehee but i’ve seen walkthroughs of her route (I’ve heard it makes you hate Jumin and he’s my favorite so um. hehe). V’s and Saeran’s routes I found to be so emotionally intense and just….a lot and I've been waiting a long ass god damn time for this after ending okay…. I would theorize and make up an ending in my head but i’m no writer so it was hard to figure out lol. I’m a Jumin stan mostly but I love everybody and yeah I should probably play that jumin dlc too but I need like a DAY to recover from Saeran’s AE. Enough about me HERE are my thoughts on it overall

Major Saeran AE Spoilers under da cut!

Can we please discuss V showing up to the C+R conference room with basically chloroform and made everybody Pass Out like??? I was alone in my room at like midnight just SCREAMING at my phone???? And the creepy ass CG ???? It’s like that gif of sarah paulson from ahs being like “I put arsenic in the wine….and the pasta”

Anyway I screamed at V a lot during this process!!

Loved RFA being sweet and kind to saeran (before V fucking drugged them…)

This is such common V behavior “I have to do it all myself...there’s no other way..” GIRL SHUT UPPP You do this every route....

When they go to the apartment and see boss and vanderwood and poor saeyoung is sitting there seeing his brother for the first time in years i wanted to D word sooooo bad like PAIN...PAIN….

Can we HAVE A DISCUSSION ABOUT JUMIN HAN BEING THE BEST CHARACTER IN THE GAME AND HE LOST EVERYTHING IN THIS AE……. he just took the blame and moved on jumin what the hell….. I love him so much r we serious? He watched his 2 closest friends betray him in the worst way and found out abt how Rika abused Saeyoung and Saeran???? I felt just AWFUL. Terrible ...Terrible….

Rika’s change in demeanor from Saeran's actual route is certainly a Choice. I find her much more bearable this time around and unfortunately i think I was too nice to her and ended up with a bad end LMFAO

I was happy to see Saeran stand up for himself and become stronger and confident. You go king!

The CG of Yoosung laying in Zen’s lap is everything to me…

HOWEVER YUP I sure did get a bad ending and I was so mad fdsafdskfdhsf ! (I would be happy to clarify how I got the good one the second time.) MAKE SURE To SAVE EARLY in days 2 and 3 bc the branches on day 4 is where the bad end will show up. For me it was the first day 4 chat and then a story mode titled “SAVIOR”.... If you see that RUN FOR THE HILLS!!

I was so mad! But I had saved in day 2 and replayed and MANAGED to get good end

I’m obsessed with everyone calling V and Rika “that psychotic couple” like…..its true its true…

No those two are so toxic… V’s route was torture watching them go on and on about the sun like yo can yall just call each other babe like normal people.

I respect straight people but not V and RIka that shit was just wrong… Straight marriage was a mistake

Oh lord i also FULLY Forgot Rika killed the twins’ mother…. Yeah that scene was um Certainly a lot but it needed to happen eventually

Like it’s good they know but damn that storyline is just so bleak

I think it was satisfying TO A DEGREE….To see Rika understand where she was wrong, why she was wrong, fess up and even APOLOGIZE! I was very surprised.

Saeran and Saeyoung are Certainly twins with the amount that those two self sacrifice in every route MY GOD…..

The scene with Jumin talking to his father and the other scene of him praying oh my god I cannot tell you how happy I was to see him begin to understand and address his own feelings in a route that was not his own. My main problem with Jumin’s route has always been the trapping MC in his penthouse aspect.. This way Jumin understands love and emotions without being overly possessive !!! YAY also loved seeing him be on good terms with his dad who was surprisingly profound

That last Story mode was Really a Lot…. and Strange things occurred which I will get into in just a minute

Jumin becoming a politician is so funny but ngl … i see it.

Yoosung going to france to study pastries ok king I see u! (it made more sense to me than the vet thing anyway)

I was happy with how they handled it for the most part. I think Cheritz heard our feedback about V’s after ending and was like okay….let’s try something different

HOWEVER

Saeran…. Sweet kind saeran… IS SO AFFECTIONATE HAHA….

He must have said I love you like 300 times…..very mushy gushy flowery language...and maybe that’s just his personality but for me it was like eating cake with buttercream cake. It means well, but god damn is it sugary and going to cause a stomach ache later.

He was just… SO MUCH! SO forward and ON all the time in his affections. I honestly felt kind of smothered and by day 3 and 4 I was sooooo over all the compliments… King you’ve come a very long way, but ur still putting MC on a pedestal and probably need to see a therapist.

The forgiveness thing…… Okay so I think some people will not like that Saeran decided to “forgive” the people who hurt him (Rika, V, Saejoong, his mother). I would point out that I actually think this was approached somewhat well. He says at one point that he doesn’t think they’re good or bad, just people. I think he sounded mature and like this was the way for him personally to accomplish his healing process. Would I have loved for Saeran to flip V and Rika off and kick Saejoong off a cliff? Yea I really would. But like…. If that’s what HE needs to do to heal then who am I to judge?

HOWEVER…. Everything Eye just said goes out the window when the scenes at the end with Saejoong come up… I was PERPLEXED. Like why did he HUG his deranged father who just kicked the shit out of him??? Also all the chat options that MC has with him r like blah blah you’re like this because no one loves you were so corny to me LMFAOOOO?

Headcanons of the s boys of types of coversation a s/o or friend would have with them (what topics would they talk about)

This is what they talk about excluding blood sucking, and being prey.

Shu:

- Talks about music, and how the classical age was the best of all time. (He’s one of those people). If you enjoy classical music, or can play an instrument, holding up a conversation with the vampire is not a problem. Bonus points if you can play the violin, or piano.

- Shu is very knowledgeable when it comes to European history, and has an excellent memory. If he wanted to, the vampire could easily tell you the entire life story of any European composer, or military leader.

- He finds a lot of joy in talking dirty to his lover, and friends. You best believe he’ll try getting in your pants, he’s into the thought of friends with benefits. If you’re not interested, or have a lover already, he’ll still speak about lewd topics, and tease you.

Reiji:

- Reiji loves speaking on chemistry, mathematics, and the experiments he’s trying to figure out. He will definitely ask his friend to be his test subject, or make them one against their will.

- If he’s close enough with his s/o or friend, he starts unintentionally complaining about his brothers, and their stupidity. Especially Shu, Reiji can go on a whole rant about how irresponsible he is.

- The vampire can go on about Victorian fashion, etiquette, and lifestyle. He’s knowledgeable on all time periods in history, but that era really stands out to him. He loves everything about it, if you do too, that’s great.

Ayato:

- I’d venture to say that 50% of the conversations he has with you, are about himself, or belittling people he thinks are inferior. His ego is huge, so he tends to be cruel with teasing, and is overall kind of a negative person.

- The vampire can talk about basketball for hours. It’s not like he even keeps up with the NBA, or college basketball, it’s mostly about his season. He’ll also force you to come to his games.

- Unlike his older brothers, Ayato tries to keep up with pop culture, and trends. Having a friend show him how to do viral dances, and challenges is fun. He’s still old though, so it can be frustrating at times. It’s hard for him to understand Gen Z humor.

Laito:

- Laitos interests are kind of all over the place, but anything sexual peaks his interest. If you’re his friend, and need advice on how to go down on someone, he’s more than happy to help. He’s pretty cheeky, so he’ll ask you to practice with him. If you’re his lover, that’s a whole other ball park.

- Interestingly enough, he’s very into talking about music, and the feeling it brings. He plays the piano, and his favorite genre is Jazz. Laito is also open to listening to new music, unlike Shu.

- The vampire is quite intelligent when it comes to language. He can speak French fluently, and does crossword puzzles in his free time. Need help understanding olden text? He’s more than willing to help, If you pay the price with your body.

Kanato:

- Kanato is only interested in talking about childish, and superficial things. Looks are important to him, so he’s judgmental about your appearance, and others. Speaking on Lolita fashion, and whether someone would make a good doll or not, is frequent.

- More often than not, you’ll catch him talking about pretty alarming things. He can go from discussing sweets with you, to something completely sadistic. No matter if you’re his lover, or friend, it always feels as though you’re walking on eggshells.

- He vents about his feelings, and frustrations a lot. Something as small as, Ayato eating his sweets, can turn into a whole fiasco. You just have to bear through it, and try comforting him. This is a reoccurring one sided type conversation he would have with his lover, or friend.

Subaru:

- At first, most of the conversations he has with people trying to get close with him, are warnings. Subaru will warn the person that he’s a monster, and that they’ll die if they stick around. If that doesn’t work, he’ll attempt to scare/intimidate them. Getting past that hurdle is difficult.

- Once he gets comfortable, and you ask him about his interests, he will talk your ear off. Asking him about his coffin, or the mobile game he plays, is good for getting him relaxed, but can also be pretty annoying to hear about. (I can totally see him playing first person shooters if persuaded well enough).

- His friend/partner lowkey becomes his therapist. Subaru has never been open with anyone, so allowing him to finally vent his frustrations through words, instead of destruction, is monumental. If he needs advice, he knows he can come to you.

Can humans fall in love with statures?

There was once a man called Pigmalion, a sculptor in his 30s. He was unmarried.That was neither because he didn't want to, nor because he couldn't afford to buy a house or a car. It was just because no one will consider him as a boyfriend. Pigmalion's un-praise-able looking was not the only reason. As he had been totally devoted himself to statures, People said he had become a stature himself. They respected his craft and brilliance, but who will love a breathing stature? Pigmalion has had a lot of bad breakups,for which he was recently told off by the Guinness World Records organizing committee when they suggested he apply for the record. Here we only choose two typical examples: Once his date is a lively and cheerful college girl, they came across in the National Museum. She was there as a temporary volunteer, reminding him not to lean forward like that or he would fall into the statures while he was looking at the exhibits behind the fencing.

That evening they dined at a little restaurant, where she appeared cheerful and he listened gently.

Then he asked, "What books do you read?"

Her voice slowed. When she mentioned "network novels" he suddenly commented, "Just as book is humans' spiritual food, Network novels must be the spiritual junk food."

Both of them froze.

"Which artist do you like? "He asked.

"Michelangelo... ?" she said cautiously, after thinking for a moment.

"Coincidentally, I like Nichelangelo too!" He said. Then he began to talk with great interest about Michelangelo's life, work and artistic characteristics, until he said of her: "You remind me of my history professor."

"Is it? "Pigmalion knew it was time for a change of conversation topic, and he traveled back from the Apennines of the Renaissance to talk about the manifestations of the inferior aesthetic faculties of the modern sculptor.

"Sorry, I need to go to the bathroom." She said.

She left and never come back again.

After doing a lot of reflection, Pigmalion concluded that: Never say against what a woman likes, and don't talk about something that she isn't interested in. What's more, it's better to find a more mature woman. So his next date was a woman elder than him by several years with marrige experience. This time he showed great patience and kindness towards her constantly speaking, responsed postively, and tried not to talk about anything about Michelangelo. That day in his bed, they embraced each other tightly. The woman was talking passionately about the Bridges of Madison County，Pigmalion was excited to find that they had a common topic.So he express his opinions, "The story is beautiful. But I think the woman must choose between those two men. It's irresponsible to be a fense rider." "But that was what made the story romantic. Who cares? "she said, Burying her head in his chest. Pigmalion lost the chance to renounce his words, "Romantic, yes, as a movie plot. But as a matter of fact it's immoral."

When Pigmalion woke up the next morning. He found himself lying on his bed lonely. He jumped off the bed looking for her with no clothes on his body.

At last he sat on the floor of the living room nakedly, thinking hopelessly that she had not even gave him a phone number.

Ok, I suppose everyone have got some ideas about why Pigmalion was awful lover. However, he regarded himself as a loser of love, and decided to focus all his energy on statures.

Obviously, failed loves had an unexplainable impact on him. He seldom made the stature for gods or celebrities anymore, and made a lot of naked sculptures, which he would not appreciate in the past. This change brought him better income, as the rich men always used statures of heros or gods to decorate their salons but they choosed to have statures of naked women in their bedroom（besides， they usually owned more than one bedroom).

The most successful stature of Pigmalion was a naked woman named Caritea.He had to admit that Caritea had the most delicated face, most attracting figure and the noblest temperament, but he was not so satisfied with it. Caritea, for some reason, hadn't got the sense of vigor and strength that every naked stature had. Vigor and strength were always cared by Pigmalion, so he would sometimes wonder whether he was lost in his mind when making Caritea. Its expression was too peaceful, and its posture was too reserved.But the special points maybe the reason why people loved Caritea so much. Every time they got into Pigmalion's gallery house, they would besiege it, staring at it with their mouths open. Caritea also gazed at them like holy mother watching her baby with a light smile.

Pigmalion loved looking at Caritea himself. When putting eyes on it, he would gain a sense of "spiritualization"，a sense of "detachment", which he could never gain from any other statures, or even any humans.

At the dinning time, people left the gallery house, and went to the restaurants in the city. Pigmalion Always ordered takeout food and sat aside Caritea, enjoying this lovely and comfortable time.

"Hey, do you know Plato?"he asked Caritea,

"Of course, you know. What a silly question.Do you agree with Plato about his philosophy of love?

"Oh, you are too much of an idealist.I used to be an idealist myself. But recently I started to think about this matter in another way. The fact is fact, though it is cruel. People are pragmatic. There's no such thing as spiritual love.

"You don't think so?...Why?..."

Pigmalion and Caritea talked about all kinds of philosophy opinions, attitude towards ancient art and modern art, artist and their historical contributions. Pigmalion was so excited to realised that Caritea was the greatest confidante of him.

Untouchabe style, Which was thought as Caritea's shortcoming by Pigmalion, now turned into the best part of her in his eyes. He loved her modesty, her understanding, and the stubbornness behind her gentle expression.

When he was developing a stronger and stronger preference for Caritea, more and more people decided to buy it. Those rich men were turned down by Pigmalion, and he said to himself that they know nothing about art, and they don't deserved to appreciate art.

But when famous sculpture who was recognized as the only artist worthy of the name of artist in the modern world by Pigmalion was also refused, Pigmalion had to admitted that, after Caritea convinced him in the discussion of Plato, he had have subconsciously decided not to sell it until the end of the world.

It was no more a "stature" to him.

But on a Sunday, in Pigmalion's gallery house, something gave him a good shock.

After leaving Caritea for a short time, he found it surrounded by a group of people, and there was the man, fondling Caritea bawdily from the face to the neck, from the arms to the chest, from the navel to the private parts... In doing so, the man's crotch bulged.

Pigmalion felt his head bulged as well just like someone had inflated his brain with hydrogen. He grabbed a hammer and rushed at the man.

Everybody shouted, everybody pushed, everybody ran away. The guy tried to escape into the crowds. Pig marion ran after him, crossed the square, trampled the vegetables, and pushed down the passer-bys. The man was just about to slipped into the alley, so Pigmalion threw the hammer towards his head like Thor. The hammer missed and flew into an open window.

Pigmalion didn't asked the house's owner for his hammer. He returned to his gallery house with head drooping, sat on the entablement of Caritea, and felt extremely upset. Caritea's peaceful glance couldn't comfort him this time.

"Sorry for made you suffer. It's a pity that you can't defend yourself. I will find ways to protect you from those freaks."he said to it.

That guy is so disgusting! How could he did this to a stature？Espcially to such a puregentledivine stature! It was just like raping his own mother!

Thinking in this way made Pigmalion unapologetic about his anger, but the judge didn't take it as a crime to insult a stature. Pigmalion was sentenced to be in jail for 3 days for disturbing public order.

In the 3 days in jail, Pigmalion was thinking about a problem all the time.

Should he place a billboard beside Caritea with "Don't touch" written on it?

But the people who put their ugly hands on Caritea must be totally shameless, and they won't be stopped by a "warm promot".

What about fining those who touch it? But this could not remove Pigmalion's worry. As Caritea is so desirable, he believe that fine won't prevent it from indecency, but it may raise the desire for tasting the forbidden fruit.

Then what about put a dress on it?

A normal dress is easy to be tear apart, he thought, an armor would be better.

But the blacksmith is male, when he measure its body like a tailor, he would have a lot of chance to fondle it fair and square. That should not happen.

At last, Pigmalion chose a compromise proposal: buy it a nun's outfit from a female tailor.

When the tailor was measuring Caritea's body, Pigmalion standed there, paying great attention to tailor's every movement like an anxious father.He keep reminding himself, The tailor is also a woman, she was not a homosexual, and what she is doing is just an official duty. But when the tailor's hands moved to some sensitive zones, he couldn't help thinking about cutting off that pair of hands.

But after putting on a nun's long grown for Caritea, a sick feeling began to creep in Pigmalion's mind. Gradually he started to be quite annoyed when any others look at Caritea.

He knew that this thought is abnormal but he just couldn't stand it.

Once he found a little boy dived beneath Caritea's robe, He decided to put Caritea into his bedroom, and never display it again.

Everyday when works were done, Pigmalion would return to his bedroom, chatting with Caritea about funny experiences of the day, feelings and strange ideas. He was so happy as if the loneliness of all the day had been paid back. He knew, just like he need Caritea, it need him as well because it couldn't see the world itself locked in the tiny bedroom. They are all lonely souls.

Therefore, he closed his gallery house earlier every day and go home straight.

In the midnight, when there were few people in the street, he would lift Caritea onto a cart, and brought it out for a walk.

One night, he couldn't sleep.Then he jumped out of bed, and open the light in his room.

He realised what he was going to do after he had stript Caritea's gown from its naked body.

He put the clothes on as fast as he could,

closed the light, and jumped back into his bed.

His heart was jumping fiercely as if it could break through the quilt. Holy shit, he thought, what happened to me? Am I the same as those obscene people?

At 4 a.m. in the morning, He quit fighting with sleeplessness and turned on the computer, searching: what's the difference between appreciation for art work and love?

There was no such topic in the network. Apparently no one thought there were any similarities between "appreciation for art" and "love".Pigmalion only found an answer to the difference between friendship and love:

Friendship is open while love is exclusive.

That's not completely true, he thought. There is somtimes jealousy in friendship as well, though that's not a very healthy friendship.

He recalled Schopenhauer's saying that the appreciation of works of art is "incuriosity", which is not utilitarian and does not try to occupy anything.

Finally, he said to Caritea, "Well, I found myself fall in love with you. We were so happy during this time. We talked about philosophy, we talked about art, we talked about emotions and we talked about life, we can be so matched a couple. I love you so much and wanted to spend all my life with you. But I know it is selfish to keep you in this room forever, cover your beauty with these ugly clothes, and talk to myself in front of you. So And try my best to bring you into life, then you can choose to stay or leave by yourself. Maybe you don't love me, that's okay, leaving me will be better than you have to love me." Caritea still smiled at him gently like him, lonely but kind. I love you, too. He held its hands with all his love.

He bought a plane ticket to greece when the sun rose. At the altar of Aphrodite，he prayed like the Pygmalion many years ago, asking the goddess of love bring the statute into life. The fire of the altar danced, and goddess of love appeared in the fire. "Is it what you want? You would not have a chance to renounce, I remind you."asked Aphrodite. "Yes, it is. We spent years together, Loving and supporting each other. I know Caritea will not be perfect as a human, But I can accept her unperfect just like she will accept mine."answered Pigmalion. "I know you will accept her unperfect,"said the goddess with a smile across her face," But do you insist in your wish?" "Of course I do." "Your wish is granted."Aphrodite announced and disappeared in the fire.

Pigmalion bought a bunch of rose and a ring, getting on the plane home. He knew the beautiful life is waiting for him in his house. He began to call her before he could open the door,"Caritea! I'm back! Are you alright? How do you feel? Was it uncomfortable to be a human?..." But when he walked into his bedroom, He only found entablement, the gown, and a left note on the floor.

I'm off. Thank you for your hospitality.

He breathed in relief. That's not happy ending, but that's fair enough. I knew it already, and at least I have nothing to be worried about now. Caritea is now free and I liberated her. He bought some bottles of wines to celebrate and slept deeply that night.

On the second day morning, he opened his wardrobe, then looked around and found none of his things were taken away by her. She's too polite a girl. He smiled to himself, and went to wash up. Brushing his teeth dazzledly, he looked into the mirror. He looked like an old man of 60 years old. He suddenly noticed there was a long golden hair in his comb. Her hair was always black in his imagination. He cried like a baby, and swallowed plenty of toothpaste foam.

Pigmalion turned to the goddess of love for the second time. This time he wish Caritea would fall into stature again. He is not a selfless person and he will never be. If Caritea loves him, even if she has no other choice, what harm could it do him? But fire of Aphrodite didn't dance for him anymore. Whatever, he thought, I shall go home and make more sexy statures without souls. And next time, he won't brought any one of them into life.
