Freddie was writing to his family whenever he’s at boarding school in India:

“Dear Mum & Dad. I hope you are all well and Kashmira’s cold is better. Don’t worry, I’m fine. Me and my friends at the Ashleigh House are like a second family.

The teachers are very strict and discipline is most important here at St. Peter’s. I’m very happy to tell you that I was awarded the big trophy, Best All Rounder Junior. I received a big trophy and they even took a photograph, which will appear in the annual school magazine.

I’m very proud and I hope you are too. Send my love to Kash. I love my little sister as I love you all. Farrokh.”

hey guys its been a while since ive posted on here so i thought id share some life updates

♡ i got into college! im studying architecture and im almost done w 2/10 semesters (since it's a 5y course here)

♡ i stay in a hostel 6h away from home and ive adjusted quite decently except for the food sometimes

♡ two (ish) weeks ago i git teally homesick and went home for 2 days just to eat biriyani and i have zero regrets

♡ i don't really have a fixed study space anymore because my work is mostly drawing/drafting and there's not really enough space in my room to work because all my sheets are a2 sized. so i do all my work in the common study hall at my hostel

♡ so now i decorate the space above my bed with posters/ movie scenes printed out

idk what else to say, life goes on. the climate here is much hotter than back home so I've been bathing myself in sunscreen before college every morning. ive been obsessed with too sweet by andrew and the entire found heaven album and obviously im going insane about ttpd next week (??!!?)

the past year ive gotten really into cooking pasta (if even a single person tells me to post it, I will spam <3), i got a djungelskog for my birthday in march and i have literally never loved a stuffed toy more than this and i miss my salt lamp so so much

i can't think of anything else but send me asks if you wanna chat!!

#reminded me of a lecture in college on 19th century victorian literature. mill on the floss i think. the professor spoke of how #agrarian society was in tune with temporal cycle of nature. seasons religious days tides etc. with the first industrial revolution saw a #dramatic shift in the human experience of time with clocks and timekeeping mostly for the time labourers spent toiling in factories #mentioned how time was now 'spent' rather than 'passed'; leisure was taken completely out of daily life. things became task-oriented which #kept on increasing. the factories would tamper with the clock to keep increasing the time labourers worked on the floor.#you can't tamper with the sun and moon now can you?#anyway this also brings to mind the demand for separate timezones in india #also brings to mind the concept of timesheets and how freelancers charge by the hour.#also brings to mind max weber's protestant ethic and the spirit of capitalism for some reason #i side with the luddites

"I was a very insecure young boy, probably because I was a bit sheltered.

I was born in Zanzibar, which was part of the commonwealth then.

My father was working for the government as a civil servant at the time. My uncle had a villa in Dar-Es-Salem only yards from the sea, and in the morning I’d be woken by the servant. Clutching an orange juice, I’d literally step out on to the beach. In a way I’ve been very fortunate, even in the early days. I love being pampered, it’s just something that’s grown with me. I was also a precocious child, but my parents were very strict.

I wasn’t spoilt though. They thought boarding school would do me good. So, when I was about seven, I was put in one in India for a while. That background helped me a lot, because it taught me to fend for myself from a very early age, and to be responsible.

It was an upheaval of an upbringing, which seems to have worked, I guess.
