1/3 Wild flowers and Grasses 🌾 This mini project I was part of a workshop from @tomhaugomat on @domestika that used stencil and acrylic. However in one of the final compositions Ive instead introduced my own ink pen mediums. I also have little more details in this one as I have layer up multiple stencils/paper cuts to give a more flourished energy - I think this suits the narrative as these flowers are more wild and thriving. FAS3001 WGSN talk

Roxanne held a talk with us about WGSN as a company, and the types of forecasts they produce. She quoted how WGSN helps to “forecast change so they can create a better future”, and shared how each month they produce around 170+ reports which are shared with over 5,700 partners covering 16 industries. She also shared how WGSN focuses on the customer, creating consumer profiles which are underpinned by insights and social influences. We looked at how this is influenced most heavily by three newly developed areas: the Digital consumer, retail landscape, and sustainability.

Roxanne talked us through WGSN’s website, highlighting how it is separated into layers, based on the industries and areas. Similarly, we were introduced to the macro trend cycle and production timeline, showing how each aspect is refined from a macro trend, to the garment being on shelves. When looking at areas within this timeline, she spoke on how ideas are developed- 1. Get the design right, 2. collaborate, 3. create sustainably, 4. 3D CAD visualisation to help provide clearer reports to clients. We discovered the Content calendars and how they show the different types of reports they offer and when they will be published. Roxanne also explained the Annual Big Ideas/ STEPIC reports which identifies all the areas of innovation, looking at all the changes across creativity, industry, politics, and other social factors that will influence the trends of the future.

She also took us through the different areas of the WGSN website and visual areas like the feed and image library. I found this particularly useful for helping to aid our wider research in our trend narrative, particularly in finding mood images and backgrounds for our lookbooks. Similarly, she showed us the Colourplay tool allows us to build our own colour palette that gives the code and name as well as a visual palette. This has proven to be particularly useful for helping to refine my own colour palette and quickly working out which colours work best with one another.

To further my development, I shall use these new tools that Roxane introduced us to to enhance my mood boards. In particular, I shall work on my colour schemes more, especially as this was some of my key feedback from the first module.Similarly, I shall use the image library more to develop my secondary research and ensure all of the images for my mood boards are cohesive.
