#communal riots

In the late 1980s though, as the Ram Janmabhoomi movement gathered momentum, the Sangh Parivar engineering several communal riots. These riots occurred across south, central and northwest Karnataka, in cities and towns facing a sharp economic decline. They included Davanagere in central Karnataka, which was once considered the Manchester of Karnataka (for its  thriving cotton mills) and the Moscow of Karnataka for the political orientation of  its working classes. In southern Karnataka, the Sangh Parivar was successful in instigating a dispute around the syncretic Bababudan Dargah shrine, where Hindus and Muslims alike offered prayers. From the late 1980s, the Sangh Parivar and its organisations began to push for Hindu rituals at the site. This slowly turned into a movement to take over the shrine through claims it was a temple forcibly converted to a dargah by Tipu Sultan. The issue soon began to be portrayed as the 'Ayodhya of the South’. The opportunistic and soft Hindutva politics of the Congress and other centrist parties in nurturing this issue is important in understanding the linear growth of the Sangh Parivar in the state post the 1990s.

The three arrows pointing down in a circle
Eat the rich
Those are a few but it also mentions anything anti-fascist and anti capitalist
So if you live in the US please be careful

Their name was Nex Benedict.
They were 16 years old and deserved to live for many more years.
I can’t stop thinking about them and how every adult in that school and state failed them.
How the hateful rhetoric and dog whistle bathroom bills pushed by far right religious extremists led to this tragedy.
3 older teen girls beat them so badly they died from their injuries. Nex was murdered by hate.
We have been warning that the legal targeting of the trans community recently was going to lead to tragedy like this. We have been screaming from the rooftops that the right wing isn’t protecting anyone. And here we are.
I will continue to do what I can in the off line space to make the world safer for my community.
But I will also not forget Nex Benedict. Say their name. Remember who they were and who they never got the chance to become.

Let's not forget that until this Stede has only had sex with Mary (that we know of) so now he's losing Ed not only the day after they first have sex but the day after he first has sex with anyone he's actually attracted to, not to mention in love with
Like, the man was flying so high and then lost it all (and had his lover call their night a mistake to his face) in under 24 hours, I think it's impossible to overstate how much he's really going through it at the moment

Since Pride Month is right around the corner, this is your reminder that:
• In late 2022, the Department of Homeland Security had added LGBTQ+ to their list of potential targets for terror attacks following the Club Q shooting
• Multiple US states are pushing for (and have passed) a number of transphobic laws, ranging anywhere from age restrictions on gender affirming care to stripping parental rights from parents of transgender minors
• Earlier this year, the state of Tennessee criminalized Drag performances and made it so offenders could spend years in prison
This is also your reminder that the Stonewall uprising was a protest started by Marsha P. Johnson, a Drag Queen, and Sylvia Rivera, a transgender Drag Queen. The first Pride parade happened to commemorate the Stonewall uprising one year later.

Hot take:
If a character doesn’t have a canon Sexuality and/or Gender Identity there isn’t any harm in having your own headcannons.
Specially Changing a characters Canonical Sexuality/Gender Identity so it fits better with your ships is disgusting behavior.
I’m looking all you Radio/Whatever shippers in the eyes when I say this.
Alastor is Aroace.
If he were in a relationship with someone, it would be a QueerPlatonic one. He wouldn’t be having kids with anyone. He wouldn’t be kissing anyone. He is Asexual and Aromantic.
And it’s getting increasingly frustrating as an Aroace person with even Less representation in Media than other lgbtq+ sexualities/identities, to see what little representation we do have get changed and disregarded.
It isn’t even about Alastor at this point, there’s so many Ace and Aro coded characters, or canon Ace characters, who get ignored, overlooked, or have their sexualities changed to something else and I’m so tired of it.
Asexual and Aromantic people aren’t any less valid than any other Sexuality. We deserve to have representation in the media, and we deserve to have that representation respected by other members of the lgbtq+ community.

thank you so much for reading. this is probably my favourite and most important zine I've made and i plan to make more zines about subjects like this which are important and need to be discussed. trans rights are still an issue today and it is so important that, as a community, we can share our experiences and create awareness about the struggles that we all face just by existing as trans people in the world right now.
also the helpline in this zine is UK only, but please seek help and contact a helpline in your area if you are struggling with your mental health. you're important, you're valid and ily 🫶🏳️‍⚧️

The last contribution of Mahajan culture in the form of the establishment of new national level institutions, such as the first Indian Institute of Management, the National Institute of Design and the School of Architecture in Ahmedabad. At the same time the entrepreneur class in smaller towns established new colleges, in which exploitation of teachers and students, reflected another expression of their dominance. This trend is exemplified by the fact that by 1970, Chimanbhai Patel, the rising star of the Congress, controlled more than 70 colleges and successfully subverted the university system. This period also witnessed the hijacking of the cooperative sector – banks, milk dairies and agricultural produce market yards – by the entrepreneur class. By the late ’60s the social composition of Ahmedabad had radically changed. More and more people from other parts of Gujarat as well as other states such as U.P., M.P. and Rajasthan, started flocking to the city in search of economic opportunities. The contradictions of rapid urbanisation first became visible in Ahmedabad with the outbreak of Hindu-Muslim conflicts from the early sixties, culminating in the eruption of one of the worst post-independence communal riots in 1969. These riots marked the demise of the Mahajan culture as the old city elite among both the Muslims and Hindus were unable to contain the violence. Another feature of these riots was the beginning of the partisan role of the state and the emerging nexus between the political leaders and criminals.

I saw a post talking about how we shouldn't celebrate when organizations, people, countries and etc make changes to be more accepting towards minorities or make changes that would better the world because "they should have already done that."
The ideal world we want, where everyone can live a kind and nice life, isn't going to happen in one massive swoop. It is going to come in tiny steps over many, many years. And guess what? We should celebrate each step we take. Each time something changes for the better we are closer to what we've all been dreaming of and that is something worth celebrating. If we refuse to find happiness in small victories, we won't have the strength to make it to the end.
So throw a party with some of your friends when your city council installs bike lanes. Go protest outside the shop down the street for being bigoted. Kick Karen out of the neighborhood group chat and go out for dinner with the rest. It's worth it not just in the end but to you in the present. You should, and need, to celebrate small achievements.
