Iza’s Yearly Big BJD Lineup 2023 :: 64 BJDs from 81cm to 12cm (+ pets!)

I finally got around to doing my yearly big BJD lineup in December 2023, für hounding my sister for over a year to give me my two doll bodies back.

This was a 3 day ordeal (2 days of shooting images, and another day of editing, combining, and labeling), but I’m glad I got it done. In total I manually merged 12 photos.

I excluded 4 dolls, 3 have identical doubles (head and body combos) and 1 was too similar to another (only a different head, but same company head and body combo), so I didn’t feel the need to add them. I also did not add a doll I gifted my wife for Christmas as she hadn’t gotten her yet when I did the lineup. She’ll be included in next year’s lineup though!

If anybody wants specific dolls from above compared (dressed or nude), please let me know and I’ll try to do it in the next week! I can’t do the whole lineup nude as I do not have the energy nor the ambition for that. It was intensive enough to just do them dressed, because I do this without help…

Anyway, I hope this is helpful to at least one person out there!

I’m not gonna tag all the doll sculpts in the lineup, that would just take too long, but I will add a couple of companies in the tags at least.

Butch Hartman Redraw (Dani/Danielle Phantom)

Redrew this specific artwork from Butch Hartman that bugged me. The colors felt too saturated, the background is boring and Danielle’s head is so big that she might as well look like a Funko Pop.

As for what I did, I tried to draw a suitable head shape for her, gave her an action pose and face, removed her unnecessary curve and lipstick (She’s 12 years old, I don’t think she needs that crap) and tried to draw a more interesting background. I have to admit that my anatomy looks stiff and is worse than Butch’s.

+ The quote “You want to ask questions? Or you wanna kick some butt?” is from D-Stabilized (The REAL final episode of Danny Phantom in which the show was cancelled before it got its proper ending. What do you mean I’m lying? There’s no such thing as “P###### P#####”. That was a poorly written fanfic written by a man in his late 50s as an awful tribute to the show)

tommy loves horses of course, and there's a lot going on there (re trauma), but he has a pretty utilitarian view on them most of the time; it's not as much of an affectionate relationship to the animals as i think fandom seems to believe. there's also rather a greater symbolic meaning in general to him than bonding himself emotionally to a single horse, the way it tends to be with most horsey narratives

#he *uses* them and i think it has something to do with his self image and - as i said - trauma #horses as vehicles as tools in war race horses etc etc #dunno where i'm going with this; i think there's some opportunity to do something w that in the movie #he surely was different here before the war and you can clearly imagine little tommy spending all the time at the stables #and talking more to the horses than to any of the people around or in general but yeah #his overidentification with something that he tends to objectify & then again not all his horse comparsions or metaphors are positive or #positively connotated either #& it's also a class thing even as there's an affectionate layer to this he wouldn't look at a horse and see a cherished coddled pet #they are animals bred for use and not leisure and that's the sentiment he grew up with as well

Every time someone compares Belos with Teridax my brain screams internally in pain a little.

To explain: I like to compare Belos with a major hyperfix character of mine and due to a few reasons I really do not like comparing said hyperfix character with Teridax.

This has nothing to do with me thinking TOH or Belos is cringe I just have a weird brain that reacts very weirdly to things sometimes thats all.

I finally did my great big bjd lineup for 2022 back in September. This year there are 56 dolls in the lineup, though I didn't include 3 dolls as they are identical duplicates (same head and body sculpt combos). Most are mine, though a small portion belong to my wife.

I realize now that I should have shoved the Soom boys in the 70cm+ section into the 1/3+ section instead, as they wouldn't be this tall without their fantasy parts.

Taking the pictures was a half day ordeal as I would only setup at most 6 dolls in one go, always making the last of one image the first of the next. Then it took me another couple of hours to select the best images and manually edit and merge them into one long lineup since I unfortunately do not own anything long enough to setup all the dolls into one giant line.

I hope this is hopeful to at least some people, to help them visualize just how big the differences are between the size ranges, and even within!
