#complicated prequel fan fic

I stumbled upon one of those characters react to their own books/movies/series fics again, and was lead on journey of contemplation about metanarratives so let me guide you to the same journey.

So, I’m genuinely fascinated with the concept, even if (as anyone who has ever bit the bullet and gonw to read these fics knows) they are almost all garbage. I think I can remember one or two fics in my history of fic reading that did anything interesting with the premise and the other was a fic that circulated as a torrentable pdf and nothing else, but I digress. Usually these stories start with the avatar author being some kind of meta-god and kidnapping the characters to show them their future and I always think what a huge shame it is that the most interesting part of the idea is never utilised, which is that the characters could find out about a parallel universe where their world is fictional and get to experience the media about them as...you know...media. In a way that they could complain about bad directors, why somebody gets the bad-ass theme song and others don’t, whether the bad cgi resembles the real thing at all or why the author decided to include this thing in the book but not something else. Just...the media they are interacting with being actual media that has been created in our world to tell the story of those characters, sometimes more or less succesfully.

But. Then I got hit with another thought that derailed me completely, and made me fell down a unhinged idea rabbit hole. If for example star wars characters found our parallel universe where they are fictional, what if this world was fictional in the star wars universe?

Just, you know. Everyone complaining how convoluted the WW1 prequel series was compared to the original WW2 series. Half of the runtime is spent on politics, almost all the action happens in one trench, and even the director doesn’t seem to understand why the war even started. Compared to the clear-cut heroes and villains of the WW2 series, it’s no wonder the original fans were frustrated. Even though the World War series has always been very anti-war and the original series wasn’t as simplistic as everyone makes it out to be, the allies were shown stooping to worse and worse war-crimes near the end, and that was the point, to show that there can be no good sides in war, Padmé rants angrily after seeing some dudebros miss the entire point of the series on message boards again.

Obi-Wan thinks the franchise has its moments, but on the whole relies way too much on the shock value of mass slaughter and sensless deaths. Ahsoka is always trying to rope people into reading the tie-in novel series the Cold War, which actually deviates from the open battlefield format and tries to engage with the loose plot threads and the implications that the original WW2 series and especially the divisive decision of pulling out deus ex nuclear weapons at the last minute left behind.

There’s a lot of back-and-forth about how uninclusive the series is, with only human characters, but it has also been pointed out that there is a valid metaphor being made about how irrational speciesim is, because even in a world that human-supremacists are always harping about, their utopia of a world with only humans existing, people would find other arbitary ways to be prejudiced against each other.

On the whole, there’s a shiton of complicated lore about how all these nations were formed and some of the ideas are really good and some really stupid, but what everybody agrees is that when the galaxy+ bought the franchise and started churning out soulless mini-series about the future of the World Wars universe, nobody was impressed. The Cold War novels at least tried to tell a story about grey morals and paranoia, the New Millenium sequels are just stupid. Suddenly people just want to be nazis? again? Every villain is simply the dumbest character you’ve ever met? Most of the conflicts rely on the leaders making the dumbest decisions possible? There’s plague and environmental catastrophies and new nazis? At the same time? What a cash-grab.

No Snake, Only A Boa In The Garden: 2 VOTES. This FC5 WIP puts heavy focus on the motif of "Adam and Eve" (which also includes elements in regards to "Lilith", "Original Sin" and the "Garden of Eden") that I don't believe Silva's Hope will be able to do so. I won't go into too much detail as this is still under construction. Snippet below:

The narrative of Adam and Eve’s story was both a warning and a threat to those who doubted the Lord’s plan, showing what happens when everyone strays from their role and accept the “deceptions” of the evil Snake. The end of the story was interpreted as grim by most, given Adam’s unfortunate fate.

This cautionary tale was propagandised, showing what happens when one betrays the Lord’s teachings, like Eve had done when she accepted the temptation of the Snake.

The True Sinners: 1 VOTE. This FC5 WIP is a little scenario is if Silva chose not to become a deputy but still had the worst luck in meeting the Seeds some time before the Reaping begins. And instead of Silva developing the likes of Stockholm Syndrome, the Seeds like Silva a bit too much and develop Lima Syndrome. Featuring a side plot of Kamski having to socialise with the Resistance to get Silva back. Snippet below:

According to his sources, the local cult was becoming anxious and more aggressive. Just like the Enforcers stationed down in the Minas had been. It was a major red flag for the both of them, and it had been enough to push Silva out of bed to grab her rifle and kick her skills back into gear.

Jurassic World: Before The Storm: 1 VOTE. Chapter 2 of my published Jurassic World fic (chapter 1 is pinned in my The UnTitledverse blog on Tumblr but can be alternatively found on AO3, fanfiction.net and Wattpad, links provided in the pinned post. The fic focuses on the bond of siblings and its importance (even with those who aren't blood related) and explores the worldview (both human and dinosaur) of the science and nature behind Jurassic World, but is also a slow-burn tragedy in the making as we get closer and closer to canon complicity. Snippet below:

Following the dark-haired brunette woman to the station, Joaquin couldn’t help but look in awe at how well the surrounding nature and man-made structures fit together. Smoothly combined to fill the station with life.

La Última En Pie: 1 VOTE. The prequel to Silva's Hope. Silva wasn't always Silva, you know? She was once known as Sylvester. A single mother trying to balance raising her 5-year-old hija Persephone and keeping her late hermana's floristry afloat, in a community she was still a stranger in. But she was free, and so was her ever curious and energetic hija who liked planes and was a fan of the celebrity bear, Cheeseburger. Living a normal life. Until Paul returned. But he had changed. And in six excruciating months, he changed her. Snippet below:

"Something is coming. You can feel it," Father glanced down next to him, where Sylvester's small frame stood, head bowed and body still, listening to the cold warm in his voice as he addressed her, "Can't you, Daughter?" Did she? Should she have? Sylvester knew something was coming, as she had been told for years. But could she feel it as Father did? She didn't answer, nor did she question, for to do either would be to insult Father and doubt his word, and he never tolerated such behaviour. He was always pleased with her silence. Sylvester could almost feel Father's gaze return to the window, satisfied by the lack of reply from her, as he continued.

And lastly, Miraculous Miracles: 1 VOTE. Here is a Miraculous Ladybug series where Marinette Dupain-Cheng and Adrien Agreste are trained by Fu and a De-facto Guardian, an inter-dimensional warping plant-parasite (with limbs) named Hatter who uses magic cards to beat people up and cause property damage, along with his avatar(s) who get no benefit from switching places with Hatter in the "Other Dimension" while the hero himself hogs his time in their realm, hoping humans can survive on rocks. There is character development but Hatter does everything in his power to deter it (spoilers: he fails). This is only scratching the lighthearted surface, things in fact do get worse much later. Snippet below:

Hatter tilted his head at the pair of youth, wind from outside brushing against his leaves and roots. He looked around the hotel lobby; the pillars toppled, the stairs crumbled, the gaping hole in the front doors and the glass chandelier smashed on top of the unconscious akumatised victim. He nodded his head in faux agreement, and simply replied, "Quite."

I saw your tag to a post about jp's bullshit answer at denvercon 2021. What happened there? What question were asked?

basically someone asked jensen: when did dean know cas loved him? and jensen said, for him he played it as dean didn't know until the end, and he talked about his interpretation (which he's talked about before) which is that dean has always seen angels as these higher beings and never would've thought them capable of love like that (which i mean. IS a headcanon that is pretty prevalent in the fandom and you see it in fics a lot where pre-getting together dean thinks cas could never love him like that bc he's an angel etc etc).

Anyways then J*red derailed and interrupted jensen (on a question that wasn't even about him or his character !!!) to joke that cas is "junkless" and then rambled on and on word-vomiting abt how spn isn't about romantic love or sexuality and basically invalidating cas's confession and saying it was not a romantic declaration of love, it was open to interpretation, etc etc. And then jensen was left to try to do damage control of all *that* in the moment and so he said cas's declaration went beyond the romantic because he's an angel and his love for dean would be more, and that there weren't really words to describe it, like it was more than just romantic. which TO ME, does not read as negating that it IS romantic but is instead saying that cas's love for dean encompasses the romantic and more. He was basically saying cas's love for dean is almost like worship bc he's an angel, and it's more complex than humans could understand, and well, that's another thing i have seen said in the fandom time and time again. Cas's love for dean IS vast and complicated and all-encompassing.

However, everyone was quick to lump jensen's response in with j*red's and say they were both negating the confession and saying it wasn't romantic, instead of what it really was which was jensen trying to fix what j*red said on the spot. And yea it wasn't a perfect response, he probably could've worded things better, but it wasn't like he had time to formulate a good response. He wasn't expecting any of this because the question wasn't even for j*red. There was no reason for j*red to speak. Also this was a Creation Con J///2 panel, so you can imagine which fans made up the majority of that audience and just what the atmosphere must've been like. Jensen also stormed off the stage after this and his body language toward j*red at the end of this panel (and really that whole con) was super closed off and hostile. This was like the first in person con since the pandemic too (and after the prequel announcement) so the j2 fallout theories were HIGH and some ppl also thought j*red was being an ass during that question on purpose.

Klapollo Fic Reclist

I should really do these more often.

In advance of the Klapollo Minibang dropping a bunch of reading material for Klapollo fans (which I'm participating in!), I've decided to compile a reclist. All of these fics are SFW, hosted on AO3, and complete. I've done my best to source the authors' Tumblrs, if they have one.

A lot of my bookmarks with Klapollo are all really popular fics, so I decided to go through the tag picking for some less popular fics. The results are a mix of fics you've probably heard of and/or read, and some you probably haven't.

Without further ado, let's get into it.

My Notes: This fic is more about how Apollo sees the world around him, and the people in it. Includes the things they lie about -- and the things they don't. It's a fascinating lens for a fic.

Author's Summary: Klapollo cabin fic. That's really all this is.

Based on the events of "You Ever Been In Love?", in which Edgeworth gets drunk and rents a romantic cabin for Klavier and Apollo in Joshua Tree. Things go about as well as one could expect.

My Notes: You can, imo, read this without having read the Narumitsu-centric prequel (but you should read that anyways!). This fic can stand alone. I love the general laid-back atmosphere in this work -- even at its most tense, they're still on vacation. Almost all the stakes are emotional.

Author's Summary: You know, Apollo had high hopes for 2028. He and Klavier were actually kind of friends now, there were no impending disasters for once, and things were looking up. And then, literally on the first day of the new year... this happens.

But the joke's on them, whoever they are, because his name is Apollo Justice, he's fine, and he is not losing anyone else... even if Klavier has already confessed to the murder Apollo can't believe he committed. My Notes: I really enjoy the look into Gavin Law Offices pre-Turnabout Trump. All the OCs slot into the Ace Attorney universe well, and the way the author formats the cross-examinations is truly excellent.

My Notes: A sweet slice-of-life-y AU. The cats are all adorable for a bunch of plot devices.

Yeah, this is all going to go fine.

My Notes: I liked this fic so much I drew fanart for it. Identity shenanigans, and a fun Kristoph-Phoenix-Apollo dynamic.

My Notes: I always love a fic with CSS. In-universe RPF can sometimes hit a little too close to home for me, as someone who used to be involved in RPF-dom but got out of it. This fic treats the subject seriously, but still has fun with it, which I like.

The one Klavier had trusted in that moment. The moment where he realized that - like his best friend Daryan - Kristoph had also been a murderer.

One who had manipulated others for their own self control. The one who desired the control so deeply. Having all the puppet strings cut loose after seven years of lies and deceit in three days time.

My Notes: Klavier recovery fic, spurred by Apollo. Trucy and Apollo’s siblinghood is great, and I love the general softness of this work.

My Notes: I never realized “Turning Catworth” had a sequel until I read this lmao. Animal transformation is a funny trope, and I love this fic’s expansion of the Gramarye lore. They are literally magic!

Author’s Summary: Trucy accidentally turns Apollo into a rabbit. Chaos ensues.

My Notes: I love this look into Klavier’s second job -- the musicians he collaborates with, the people managing his career as an artist. Both the law and the music are integral parts of Klavier, and this fic negotiates the balance.

Also features Apollo's cat, Mikeko, as a major character.

My Notes: Some nice hurt/comfort. Glasses!Klavier is a nice headcanon that I enjoy.

Author’s Summary: Apollo Justice has rotten luck: he actually wins the grand prize for a mail-in contest, but It's a couple's getaway to a fancy ski lodge in the mountains and Apollo is aggressively single. With no one to go with, Apollo offers them to Klavier since surely, a rockstar would be able to find a date before then, but Klavier has a better idea—they go together and pretend they're a couple. That way, they both get a vacation, plus free food and wine.

And well, Apollo's never been one to pass up free food.

My Notes: A very good fake dating fic. I loved every bit of this.

My Notes: I love a good enemies-to-lovers story, and while I’m unfamiliar with You’ve Got Mail, this fic is impeccable. I love the lowered-stakes of the music store business.

Author’s Summary: After the events of State v. Misham, Klavier finds himself in a slump, stressed at the prosecutor's office and unable to pen new songs. To his surprise, he finds creative inspiration—and unexpected feelings—spending time with Apollo. Now if only he could release the new tracks without raising any suspicion as to whom his love songs are for.

My Notes: A humorous and light-hearted fic. Love Klavier finding inspiration in his pining for Apollo. Some parts of this might trigger second-hand embarrassment for those that easily get that.

My Notes: A canon divergence AU featuring found family as the primary theme. Love the slow reconciliation and bridge-building between Klavier and the others.

Author’s Summary: It’s not like their separation agreement had a ‘The parties agree to never sleep together again’ clause, but as far as Apollo knows, the point of separation is, well, separation. Not this. At least that’s what he remembers from law school.

On reconciliation, loss, and awkward conversations. Not in that order.

My Notes: Love the usage of history here and the general structure & vibe of this fic.

Author’s Summary: “Anyway,” Ema keeps going, fully ignoring his sarcasm in favor of staring at a neat corner where the walls meet the ceiling. “I asked if he wanted to go to your party together, but he said he wasn’t going.”

“What?” Apollo suddenly finds it very hard to breathe. “Why?”

“Hell if I know,” Ema says nonchalantly, but then she turns to him with a smirk. “See if you can figure it out: I believe he told me, and I quote—ahem—'Ach, I would, Fräulein, but I believe Herr Justice would be more comfortable without me there.’”

Or, when Apollo comes home from Khura'in only to learn that Prosecutor Gavin is avoiding him, the last thing he expected was for Gavin to offer to let Apollo stay at his house while he looks for a new apartment.

My Notes: It’s been a while since I last read this fic, but I love the progression of the relationship in this fic.

Fave Long Fics

good ol' @arahir is asking for everyone's fave long fics, so here are mine!

sorry if the rambling is a bit long, I just want to express my love <3

🌟: denotes a fic that belongs in the literary equivalent of the Louvre-- a stunning piece of writing even outside of its contribution to the fandom

JJBA

🌟 scheherazade -- shylittleghost; Josuke/Okuyasu-centric, but multiple POVs; canon-compliant prequel/sequel to part 4, necessary to read/watch part 4 to understand

this is one of those fics that not only elevates the original work in several ways, but it's a stunning piece of writing as a whole. the flow and tone of the piece is so unique and difficult to describe, with a fitting balance between mystery/horror and deadpan humor, and uses the narrating voice to play with the 4th wall in a really fun and satisfying way. oh, and one of the last chapters is a little RPG game, adding a bit little multimedia twist <3

BEASTARS

🌟 Mongrels and Strays series (mainly Mongrels and Lockjaw)-- HassouToby; technically Mongrels' primary ships are Legosi/Haru and Louis/Juno, but it's more genfic with multiple POVs. Lockjaw is Pina/Riz-centric; canon divergence from ch 156 of the manga, so it's necessary to read at least that far to understand

I have a complicated love/hate relationship with Beastars, but this fic honestly retroactively makes Beastars a better experience, imo. it not only enhances the source material, but engages and challenges its implications in ways that I frankly think Beastars itself failed to, introducing a new final antagonist, new thematic tension, and new challenges for the main characters to face. more than anything though, Mongrels feels like what the end of Beastars should have been. this fic isn’t afraid to up the stakes and have actual consequences, making the central conflict feel like a real threat to both individual characters and society as a whole. this fic is intense and brutal, and it’s not afraid to make the characters you love hurt

Homestuck

🌟 Detective Pony -- sonnetstuck; Dirk-centric(??); it's an extension of a one-off joke in the comic, but it's not necessary to know HS to read it (but it's def more satisfying if you're at least familiar with the Alpha kids)

does this fic even need to be stated, for any HS fan? this is a classic of classics, the best rec any HS fan could give. a fic that starts off with a goofy joke from the original comic (a Pony Pals kid's book that Dirk has edited with silly commentary), which gradually snowballs into a much deeper story. a stunning piece of writing, I rank it among the best works of metafiction literature of all time. this fic does an incredible job of imitating Hussie's writing style (specifically Dirk's voice) and the multi-media presentation of HS, it almost feels like it popped straight out of the comic

🌟 Two Ships Passing -- pyrites; Gerry Keay/Jon Sims-centric; a canon-divergent au starting before canon which slightly shifts the flow of the original story, so it's not strictly necessary to be familiar with TMA, but it helps

I must admit I never got around to finishing this one after it finished updating (😭), but trust me when I say this fic is stunning. some scenes still grip me 'round the throat to this day even just thinking about them. and the additional lore/background-building for certain characters is so so fitting and satisfying, it adds so much depth

To The Moon and Back series (main fic is Banned Book Week) -- verboseDescription; several different POVs, though BBB is Gerry/Tim-centric; the main fic diverges from canon after season 3, so I suppose knowledge up to that point is fine

another one I need to get around to finishing someday (idk why I dropped off a bunch of TMA fics specifically...), but this one introduces some interesting new character dynamics, and additional lore-building for many of the characters that adds fun new depth. also a few OCs whom I simply adore <3

What Belongs to the Sea -- TwoDrunkenCelestials, WhyNotFly; starts Elias/Jon, with Jon/Martin endgame, Jon-centric; "Jon is a selkie" au, and the fic implies/explains the rest of canon well enough to read without being familiar with TMA imo

this fic approaches canon worldbuilding from the direction of a different species, giving a unique new perspective on established truths of the setting. I also love the way Jon's character is so different, but still fundamentally the same kinda guy-- "fuck around and find out"-ass man lmao. not to mention Elias' fucked-up dynamic with Jon is ramped up here in a really delicious way, it rly puts their canon dynamic into perspective

Danny Phantom

🌟 Phantom of Truth / Shadow of a Doubt -- HaiJu; Danny Fenton & Maddie Fenton-centric; "what if" scenario divergence from an unspecific point in canon, would prolly be best to be familiar with the show but u can prolly get away with some wiki skimming

this one's a classic, and one of the big contributors to the "dissection/vivisection" genre of whump in the DP fandom, haha. it's such an intimate analysis of Danny's relationship with his mom, and it refuses to pull punches on Danny's situation and resulting trauma. I think it also does an excellent job challenging Maddie's perception/ethics in genuine and fundamental ways

Rise of the Guardians (movie)

🌟 Shadows and Light series -- not_poignant; Jack Frost/Pitch Black, Jack-centric; canon-compliant sequel to the movie (can't speak for book canon), u can prolly get away with reading a wiki summary if u don't wanna watch the movie

one of my fave fics for a decade now, I absolutely LOVE what this fic does for ROTG worldbuilding. so much thought is put into the politics of the fae community, and how magic functions both practically and thematically. and it introduces a ton of cool fae ocs, many of which now have their own stories, as the author has used their fae world here in other original stories as well (would also recommend!!). and the relationship between Pitch/Jack is excellent of course, with a lot of interesting BDSM elements to their dynamic (a common trend in this author's other writing as well)

Mob Psycho 100

🌟 A Breach of Trust -- Phantomrose96; Ritsu, Mob, & Reigen-centric, but multiple other POVs as well; diverges from canon before the start of the canon story, so knowing MP100 isn't necessary

this is a really fun "what if Reigen and Mob didn't meet when they were supposed to?" canon-divergent au. it pushes basically every character to their worst, most self-destructive ends, and it makes me want to throttle some of them (affectionate <3). the fic isn't done yet (as of posting this), but it promises to end satisfyingly-- it just has to put everyone through the wringer first lmao

Welcome to Night Vale

🌟 run, run, fast as you-- -- (orphaned); Cecil/Carlos, Carlos-centric; compliant with early NV lore, mostly diverges in some of Carlos' background and motivations moving to Night Vale. familiarity with s1 would be useful, but not strictly necessary

really really stunning fic, I love the additional lore-building for Carlos and Cecil here, so much is added to their characters. since this is such an old fic, some of the lore here ends up being retroactively false, as the podcast introduced different lore later on. but I almost wish some of the lore here was canon b/c it's just that good (like Cecil's whole thing with the orphanage, and how the orphanage even functions OUGH!)

🌟 The Devil Went Down to Georgia (And Then Went Down on Johnny) series -- notbecauseofvictories; Johnny/The Devil, Johnny-centric; I guess a modern take on canon, kinda treated like an original story tbh, but like. you can also just listen to the song beforehand

the author clearly has a deep knowledge and passion for music-- especially country music-- and it rly shines through in this fic. the celebration of music and community and country culture here is just. idk, it's like being invited to the table, somehow, I love it. this whole fic is poetry and it makes me ache

Blue Sky -- wafflestories; Wheatley/Chell-centric; canon-compliant sequel to the second game, necessary to know the games to understand

I must admit it's been several years since I've read this one, so my memory of it isn't quite as strong. but I remember it being a very loving rehabilitation of Wheatley and Chell's relationship, and I believe it's considered a classic by the ship's fans.

How To Train Your Dragon (movie)

I Hear Him Scream -- Rift-Raft; Toothless & Hiccup-centric; diverges from canon at the point when Hiccup downs Toothless with the net at the beginning of the movie, so watching the movie isn't super necessary, tho I imagine most of us have seen it (as we should!!)

I don't know that I would call this one particularly well-written-- it can get kinda awkward and jarring at points, and the end of the story kinda goes off the rails for me. but the premise and worldbuilding make up for it, imo. but I admit I love xenofiction, so I love seeing the deep lore about dragon culture/society this fic presents

Kekkai Sensen

Fleißiger Junge -- TheLennyBunny; Klaus/Leo, Leo-centric; demon/angel au, not necessary to know KKSS

I really love the demon/angel worldbuilding in this one, with a delicious twist of horror that's so fitting to canon /chef's kiss/. and the way Leo's family is characterized (with several OC characters) is so so fun and charming. good eating for the starving Klaus/Leo fans out there 😭

🌟 Teaching Qrow -- ByronNightshade; Qrow-centric; a canon-compliant prequel to the canon story, a bit of knowledge about the setting and Qrow's backstory are kinda necessary

I fucking love what this fic does for Qrow's character, it treats him with way more nuance and understanding than canon ever has (tho tbf, most Qrow fans do, lol). and all the additional OCs and building on the subtle implications of RWBY lore... AUGH it's good

My Hero Academia

Hero Class Civil Warfare -- RogueDruid; genfic with multiple POVs; "what if" scenario divergence from an unspecific point in canon, prolly necessary to at least be familiar with the world/characters to a point

really fun "what if this class exercise got got a bit too intense, haha~" au. it introduces a ton of fun new dynamics between the characters, and lets Izuku shine as a badass, chessmaster "villain"

Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint

Imaginary Truths -- Mythril; Kim Dokja/Yoo Joonghyuk-centric; actor au, not necessary to know ORV

this fic does an excellent job translating the canon relationships/dynamics to this setting, and keeps the core of the story/themes intact in rly interesting ways.

new game (+) -- illusionedwhite; Kim Dokja/Yoo Joonghyuk, Yoo Joonghyuk-centric; role-reversal au, and since it starts from the beginning where where canon would have started, I guess it's not technically necessary to read ORV first? but ORV provides more context

this fic is rly careful about the particular way Kim Dokja and Yoo Joonghyuk switch roles-- it's very much about their story roles. their core characters/themes remain intact, they're just interpreted through a new lens here. this is for the fans that read ORV and thought, "what if I want to read ORV again, but slightly to the left?"

Genshin Impact

🌟 Begin Anew, O Lost Child -- DarthPeezy; Childe/Zhongli/Guizhong, Childe-centric; a time-travel au that diverges from canon at the battle with Osial in the Liyue chapter, so familiarity up to that point is necessary

there's something about circularity and connection, here. about reaching across expanses of time to connect with those you love, and those you lost. about the horror of fate, and the hope for a future in spite of it. idk, this fic did something to me

we were lovers -- ThirteenSocks; Kazuha/his unnamed friend, Kazuha-centric; "Kazuha loses his vision" au, with a few twists. this fic doesn't really touch canon involving the traveler, but familiarity with Inazuma is necessary, so at least up through that chapter in-game.

what else can I say except this fic is beautiful-- it has the same melodic quality that I associate with Kazuha himself, so it feels perfectly appropriate.

To Be or Not To Be (Human With You) -- lilbittofmatcha; Aether/Scaramouche, Aether-centric; diverges after the end of the whole Sumeru chapter, familiarity up to that point is necessary

I really really love Traveler fics that acknowledge that the Traveler is essentially an otherworldy alien being, and was perhaps even godlike(??) before landing in Teyvat. I especially love Aether's characterization here, and the obvious comparisons to be made with Scara's situation

Sinking Ships in Liyue Harbor -- whereherbonesareburied; Diluc/Kaeya, Diluc-centric; a "what if Kaeya left" divergence from canon sometime after the events of the Mondstadt chapter. it's necessary to be familiar with Kaeya and Diluc's relationship, so reading up on their lore is best, though familiarity up through the Liyue chapter will help with this one

something about the pacing and framing of this fic really charms me. like, Diluc's journey to find Kaeya is kinda framed as a series meetings with several new people, like snapshots from a photo album? it's fun to see so many different, brief impressions of characters through his eyes

Osomatsu-san

Dissociation Disease -- PyrrhicFiend; Karamatsu-centric; technically features multiple AUs, but the core story is show canon. not strictly necessary to be familiar with the show

a fic I never ended up finishing (someday..), but I remember it being incredibly trippy and bizarre in the best of ways. though it may not be the best fic to read dealing with dissociation themself, because it grapples a lot with warped perception and hallucinations

🌟 Frater, Ave Atque Vale -- (orphaned); Karamatsu/Osomatsu, Osomatsu-centric; fantasy AU, not necessary to know the show

this one's perhaps on the razor's edge of not being long enough for this list, but I'm counting it anyways. there's something about 'brief' writing styles that often captures me, like parsing a scene down to its bare essentials makes the tone/emotion land more powerfully. this fic is probably my favorite example of this style

The Rites of Courtship -- calibratingentropy; Keith/Thace, Keith-centric; canon-divergence from the end of s1 ep12, and it's kinda necessary to be familiar at least to that point, though u might be able to skim the wiki

a rarepair I never woulda considered if a friend hadn't recced this fic to me way back, haha. this fic features some of my favorite alien worldbuilding, with a lot of thought and care put into Galran culture and biology, I think about it a lot as a specevo creator myself

The Favored Champion -- sugarapplesweet; Sendak/Shiro, Shiro-centric; canon-divergence before canon, while Shiro is still a coliseum fighter

real fucked-up Stockholm Syndrome abusive relationship, Shiro goes thru the wringer </3. I love the way the relationship with the Lions is depicted here too, the chapter where Shiro basically screams at the Black Lion grips me by the throat. another great example of cool Galra worldbuilding too, not as heavy on the bio side as the last one but fun to see either way!

I don't often read fics from things I'm not familiar with, but I trust my friend's recs with my life, and this one did not disappoint. I can't speak on how faithful it is to the original, but Ichigo/Quiche's dynamic here makes me go crazy nutso bonkers!! it has me banging on the walls and chewing furniture, oh my god!! it almost makes me wanna watch the show even tho I know I won't like it nearly as much as this fic 😭.

As a longtime fan of superhero based media I really wanted to create a dsmp one that wasn't focused on SBI at all and have come up with this: what is essentially a fic focusing on Antfrost and Velvet as an ill-fated superhero and villain on opposite sides as the threat of the Egg slowly advances. It heavily features multiple members of the Egg arc along with many underrated ccs, a splash of enemies to lovers, and an obscene amount of gay tension.

Greetings Exalted One!

As you have probably gathered, I’m a huge Luke/Leia fan. I hope you are too, otherwise this might be a hard one for you to complete. I love them as a couple and view them as truly star-crossed lovers, so I hope you’re on board.

I did add a prompt along with each of my requests, so I won’t rehash those here. I mostly just wanted to write something to say thank you, and I guess to give a bit more perspective on what I love and want. I totally understand that this is all taken with a grain of salt. You can write your own interpretation of Luke and Leia and their relationship. But if you want to write the kind of Luke and Leia I love, then I’ll give you a little insight into my characterizations of them.

It’s my fanon that Luke and Leia were created by the Force in a similar way to Anakin. Not in the same way, but basically the Force was like “let’s take the Chosen One, give him twins, and have those twins give me even more powerful Force sensitive users.” So I’m all about Luke and Leia having kids together and it all being part of cosmic destiny. I love fics that explore this, from the struggle against the incest taboo, to the desires burning between them, to the utter submission to fate/destiny and the comfort of knowing it’s the right path they’re meant to be on.

Of course, adding other people to the pairing can complicate that and I requested several Luke/Leia + other people. I am happy with you combining things as you see fit. If you want to write romance between Luke/Leia/Han or Luke/Leia/Lando, for example, I am totally fine with it. I am happy for a situation like “Han and Leia love each other and get married as a way to help conceal the fact that Luke/Leia are also in love.” That scenario could work with any pairing for me. It is always my preference that any kids that Luke/Leia/+1 have are Luke’s and not the other partner’s, but you could also be non-specific if you want, or not include pregnancy or children.

A few more points: I don’t care for character bashing. In a story where Han isn’t involved romantically, I like him to merely have amicably broken up with Leia, or else it’s an AU where they were never involved. I don’t like him to be a huge source of angst for either of them. I don’t want him killed off and Leia grieving him. I don’t want him to be a huge abusive asshole, either. I just like him to be gone. If he is in the story, then I like him to be an equal partner to both Luke and Leia. I generally don’t care for Han/Leia, Luke/Leia where there is no Han/Luke, or where the two pairings are so separate neither knows about the other. I don’t want ANY solo Han/Leia whatsoever, please. (I am really really not into solo Han/Leia. I'm mostly fine with other combos like Luke/Din or Leia/Lando or something, but I'd rather it be Luke/Leia or an actual threesome with everyone participating.) I mean a little is fine, or if it starts one way and progresses with plot to something more, but I’d really prefer the focus be on Luke and Leia.

A few more points of my wants/DNWs: I don’t want any Legends/book stuff because I haven’t read them and don’t know them. I would prefer little to no references to the cartoons because I’m also unfamiliar with them, but I’m less picky about that so long as it can make sense if I haven’t seen them.  I do not like The Last Jedi. I love a lot of the characters from the sequels, but I do not like TLJ/the sequel trilogy. You are welcome to AU it if you’re doing anything involving prequel characters, or whatever you want. I do not like Rey/Kylo, and would beg you not to put in anything that alludes to that pairing.

I want Luke and Leia to love each other. A little unrequited stuff is okay, but ideally they are both equally in love with each other by the end of your story. I am not into anything abusive or coercive or cruel. (Exceptions can be made for LL/Vader etc. as a means to put LL closer together. Or they can be resistant at first, but come around as they give in to their true feelings.)

I am not into characters giving or receiving oral sex. (I know that's weird. If you really want to write a blow job or cunnilingus as part of sex, that's fine, but generally I'd just skip it 100%.) I am not into women receiving anal sex, however, double penetration is an exception with threesomes. A dick in each hole is love, lol. I always prefer Luke to be in her vagina and the other guy in the back, but I don't super care. (Two dicks up front is also nice, if Leia can take it.) I am totally fine with male/male anal sex. I like Luke to top one-on-one, but I am 100% down for Luke inside Leia, with Han (or whoever) inside Luke, for example.

I really don't like first person fic. Just throwing that out there.

I love graphic, loving sex. I love the incest kink. I love the pregnancy kink and lactation. I love Leia having a lot of kids with Luke. I love Luke loving Leia. I love the idea of The Force Ships It. I love the idea of Han and other people shipping Luke and Leia. I love porn with plot, and I love plot with porn. I love plotty porn especially. I love tropes and I love taking tropes and spinning them on their head. I love clever AUs. (Though no “switched at birth, Leia raised on Tatooine, Luke on Alderaan, please; it's just too over done.) I love domestic fic, and kidfic. I love angst and drama. I love romance. I love it all. I really want more fic of Luke and Leia out there that breaks the mold; that isn’t a rehash of a story someone else has already told. So, I'd rather no “sex in the Ewok village” or quickees between the scenes. I’d rather an AU.

You also welcome to ignore the sequel trilogy entirely. Please feel free to write any AU you want post-RotJ (or post-The Mandalorian if you're writing Luke/Leia/Din).

Marianne's part of the X-Men cinematic universe, but only the prequel trilogy/alternate timeline movies. So that means First Class, Days of Future Past, and Apocalypse. (Dark Phoenix doesn't exist in this timeline. It doesn't deserve to exist in Marianne's universe.)

Besides your face/voiceclaim, who do you think would be cast as your character?

This one was a hard one ngl, because Clemence Poesy is so clearly Marianne in my mind that any other actresses looked wrong to me. However, I was able to land on either Natalie Portman or Nicole Kidman for her. I don't know why, but I think they could do it. Nicole Kidman more though, since making Marianne a 31 year old was important to me bc of how many OC fics that refuse to make ocs older than maybe 27 and having an older actress play her would be best.

What controversies/drama would your character incite in fandom?

Idk, I feel like she's generally pretty non-controversial? but fans are wild so who knows. There's probably some shipping drama. The wild chemistry she has with Charles, Erik and Moira is hard to contain and with the popularity of Cherik and disinterest in Moira that's gonna get ugly.

Also, her son gets drafted into Vietnam (because it's the 60s/70s) and that's a whole thing between her and him, so that would also possibly be a point of tension in the fandom.

What would be the ‘incorrect but wildly popular’ interpretation of your character in fandom?

Her only personality would be Supportive Mom Friend. ignoring the entire complicated history that caused her to feel like she needs to/has to mom friend everyone and it doesn't just come naturally to her, it's a lifetime of being in a position where she has to take care of people. AND ignoring that she actually has a sense of humor and can be sassy and sarcastic, that she can be hella critical of what she views as bad decisions, and that she doesn't mom friend her friends nearly as much as she does the young adults/teens on her team.

And she'd be vain. Which she is, but not as much as I think fandom would make her out to be. They'd interpret it as her just being vain and not realizing she's super concerned about how she appears to everyone, not just superficially but how she appears as a person. She's constantly worried that people will see something off with her and think she's not as strong as she wants them to think, or that they'll judge her for something she's done wrong or is out of her control. Controlling her appearance is how she controls how people see her and view her. She knows she's beautiful and she's vocal about it, and she cares about her appearance for these reasons too, but she's also just concerned with what people think of her.

I can see people making her out to be always in the kitchen or cooking/baking. The truth is that she actually fucking hates cooking. She bakes, but not constantly. But she fucking hates cooking and making meals and only does it because she has to.

It was a missing poster. The girl in the photo was her.

She brought a hand to her face, touching the scar that now lay there as a consequence from battling Sidious. The girl in the photo lacked this scar. The girl in the photo lacked the pains of war.

Grim gasped. “It’s me.”

The poster lacked her name, any information had been torn off. The poster itself seemed aged and abandoned. But the photo was clear. And she knew it was her. It was her missing poster.

“Grim, are you all right?” Obi-Wan asked her. Her face had gone pale.

“Obi-Wan, we’re in my universe,” she told him. Turning around to face him. “I’ve been missing for two years.”

“How is that possible? How did we end up here?” Obi-Wan asked her.

“I don’t know. Just as I don’t know how I ended up in Star Wars. What I do know is this, we need to find someone to help us,” decided Grim. Then she added, “and you need to change.”

“Pardon me?”

“Obi-Wan, no offense but you’re on Earth. You’re a fictional character. Nobody is going to take you seriously. You look like Obi-Wan.”

“Because that’s who I am.”

“I know that. But most people are going to think you’re a really good cosplayer,” she pointed out. “And I need to do something about my braid, my outfit is normal enough but some Prequel and Clone Wars fans might recognize the Padawan braid.”

“We’re in the middle of nowhere, how am I supposed to find a new outfit anyways?” Obi-Wan asked her.

“Actually, we’re not far from town,” she replied. “Follow me. Oh and we need to do something about your name.”

“You are Obi-Wan Kenobi, Master Kenobi, General Kenobi, The Negotiator, Old Ben Kenobi, one of the most popular characters in the entire franchise. The face of memes everywhere. Many people are in love with you. Do you need more of a list?”

“No, I get the point. Wait, Old Ben Kenobi?”

“Your name in hiding. Well, the old part comes later. I suggest you keep that name, the Ben part of it. You won’t get away with Kenobi.”

“In hiding? From what?”

“That is besides the point. Hmmm, maybe you should shave too? Look less like Obi-Wan.” She paused. “No people might mistake you for Ewan McGregor.”

“Who is Ewan McGregor?” Obi-Wan asked. He was completely lost by now.

“The actor who plays you in the prequel films.”

“If he played me, then wouldn’t no matter what, people think I look like him?”

“Hmm, good point, Ben. This is complicated.”

“Yes, but it does us no good to discuss the matter here. We should try and figure out are surroundings.”

“Right.”

Grim led Obi-Wan out of the creek area. Once they had passed the trees they were at the curb of a street. The padawan stopped as she watched cars zoom past them. She stuck an arm out in front of him. “Careful, cars.

“Cars?”

“Earth speeders.”

“Ah.”

Grim and Obi-Wan stood there for a moment. Once she looked both ways and made sure no cars were coming, Grim grabbed Obi-Wan’s wrist and they walked across the street.

Obi-Wan told her, “you don’t have to hold my hand you know,” he pointed out.

“Right, sorry.”

….

It took some time, but eventually, Grim and Obi-Wan had found the Padawan’s home. When Grim reached the porch she stopped. Obi-Wan looked at her with concern. “What’s wrong?”

“It’s been two years. I’ve been missing for two years. They probably think I’m dead.”

“I’m here for you.”

“I know you are, thank you,” she said. She knocked on the door.

When the door opened a woman with red-auburn hair stood in the frame. She looked at the teenager in front of her and gasped. “Grim…”

“Hello there, mom. I’m home.”

Suddenly she was wrapped into a hug. Grim’s dad, who had blonde hair that was a little lighter than Grim’s reddish-blonde, came over and the Padawan found herself in a group hug from her parents. They stood up, and that’s when they noticed the scars on Grim.

“What happened to you?” her father asked.

“Would you believe me if I told you it was Star Wars?” Grim asked nervously.

It looked like her parents were about to tell her that was impossible, but then Obi-Wan - who still had yet to change his outfit - spoke up. “She’s telling the truth Mr. and Mrs. Kennet. When your daughter disappeared she somehow ended up in my universe, or Star Wars as you call it here.”

That was when her parents noticed the Jedi that Grim had brought with her. “Wha- how is that possible?” Her mother asked in disbelief.

“Nobody knows, and I assure you nobody was keeping your daughter in Star Wars against her will. It was Grim who chose to remain in that universe, the Jedi Council offered to help her find a way home, but she declined the offer.”

“Why would you do that, Grim?” Her father asked her.

Grim shifted nervously. “I didn’t think I could go home, and I didn’t want the Council to put so much effort for me. Not when they already had to deal with The Clone Wars. Besides, I wanted to change the events of Star Wars.”

“So how do you know her?” Grim’s father asked Obi-Wan.

“When she appeared in my universe it happened in the middle of a battle I was fighting, I had rescued her, and then later she demonstrated the ability to use the Force-”

“And by that you mean when I saved your ass when you dropped your lightsaber.”

“Er, yes. After the battle she found me and explained her situation. I took her to the Jedi Temple, and spoke with the Council. When Grim declined our offer to help her find a way back home she became my Padawan learner.”

“So you have been taking care of our daughter? Thank you, Master Kenobi,” Grim’s mother replied.

“Not well enough if she has all of those scars,” commented her father.

“Actually dad, these scars are partly because I didn’t listen to him. The scars on my face and shoulder are because I ignored Obi-Wan and fought Sith Lords.”

“I thought you said you got that scar on your face from a training accident, or was it jumping out a window?” Obi-Wan commented, raising an eyebrow at his student.

She didn’t respond.

“Grim…” Her three parents started at once.

“I may or may not have gotten into a fight with Darth Sidious?”

“Sidious?!” Grim’s mother and father exclaimed. Neither of them were big Star Wars fans but they had heard enough from Grim’s infodumping that they knew exactly who Sidious was.

“Pardon me, Grim, you fought Darth Sidious? Nobody on the Council has done that! We don’t even know who he is!” Exclaimed Obi-Wan.

“Uh, fuck,” said Grim.

….

Grim’s father had lended Obi-Wan some of his clothes. There was no room that was free for the Jedi Master, but he insisted that he didn’t mind sleeping on the couch if they didn’t mind. It was agreed upon then that Obi-Wan would stay the night. In the morning Grim and Obi-Wan would discuss future plans with the Padawan’s parents. Like how to return back to Star Wars.

….

Morning came, and Grim got dressed into clothes she used to wear before her life had changed so immensely. The outfit she wore now was a simple black t-shirt with the Star Wars logo written on the front. She also had put on a pair of torn jeans.

She found herself glad that her parents had held onto such items despite believing her to be dead. At the same time she felt almost pity for them. It had been two years and they had not let her go.

….

Once the four of them had eaten breakfast it was Obi-Wan who brought up the subject. “Once again, I thank you for your hospitality. Unfortunately I cannot stay for too long, the Republic needs me, and I would not wish to cause you anymore trouble. It would be best if I could find a way back to my universe.”

Grim noticed how he phrased things. “Master, why are you talking like I won’t be coming with you?”

“This is your home and your universe. Your family. I thought you would want to stay.”

“I do, but the Jedi are also my family, the Jedi Temple is also my home, and Star Wars is also my universe. I belong to both universes. Both are my home. I want to go with you, besides my job is not done yet.”

“Grim, please stay with us, we just got you back. We can’t lose you again,” her mother said.

“You never did,” said Grim. “And you won’t. But this time when I leave, you need to let go.”

“You’re our daughter.”

“I know. And you’re my parents, but I already let you go.”

….

Grim and Obi-Wan had been on Earth for a month now. Obi-Wan spent his time in the public library (often wearing a variety of hoodies to hide his identity), while Grim had returned to school. Which had been difficult for her parents to set up, and the news had been on her for a while before dying down and exploding into something else in another part of the world. A lot seems to happen quickly these days. She had learned that her universe was falling apart as Star Wars was, but in different ways with different names.

….

One day when Grim was waiting on the bus to pick her up from school, the Jedi got a phone call. She saw that it was Obi-Wan calling her. (He had gotten a cell phone a week ago and had figured out how to use it quite quickly. )The contact name “Jedi Dad” was on the screen and she quickly accepted the call.

“Hello there,” she said enthusiastically. Without the Force she had been unable to sense that it wasn’t something good.

“Grim,” said Obi-Wan. Something was off about how he was speaking. He was worried, almost afraid.

“Ben? What’s going on? Is something wrong?” She asked noticing the tone of his voice.

“There’s been a problem.”

“What kind of problem, Ben? What happened?”

“Sidious figured out the multiverse,” Obi-Wan said quietly.

Grim’s heart dropped. “What?” she almost shouted. People around her stared at Grim. “How do you know this? Ben, what’s going on?”

“I’m currently hiding, I was with your parents…”

“No. Don’t tell me…"

“They’re alive, but Sidious has captured them.”

Grim stood up. “Where are you?”

“Grim no, just wait on your bus.”

“Fuck the bus! I’m going to rescue my parents! Where are you, Kenobi?”

“Grim, do not try to find me, I am hiding from Sidious. I can’t talk anymore. He might find me. Don’t try and fight him.” He hung up.

“Not fight Sidious? Does he even know me?” Grim asked herself out loud.

Everyone was staring at Grim now. She ignored the stares and ran out of the school.

She found the police station nearby and stole a gun before she stole a car. “Remember, Kennet, this is just an Earth speeder, how hard can it be?”

Turns out it was hard.

Still she managed to figure out the controls and even turn on the sirens. She drove to where she guessed Obi-Wan might’ve been, speeding through the streets as the police chased after her.

She rolled down the window of the car she was in. “Fuck the police!” She shouted at them, throwing her backpack at the cars behind her. She then increased her speed and sped faster to save Obi-Wan and her parents.

She knew she had reached the spot when she saw a massive portal. Grim jumped out of the car before it was even fully stopped and ran towards the scene of the chaos. To her complete horror Grim found Sidious halfway inside the portal, torturing Obi-Wan with Force Lightning.

Sidious must have somehow sensed her presence despite her lack of connection with the Force, because he stopped looking at Obi-Wan or he may have just heard the sirens from Grim’s stolen car and the police that were after her.

Obi-Wan looked at Grim. “How did you get here so fast?” He asked her.

“Multiple felonies,” she replied. “Also I have a gun,” she added, taking it out and cocking it.

“What do you think you’re going to do with that?” Sidious asked. Halfway in the portal he was able to ignite his lightsaber. “I have a lightsaber.”

Grim laughed. Aiming the weapon at his head. She pulled the trigger, and before Sidious could attempt to deflect it (which would have been pointless anyways), he was hit and fell backwards, dead. “And as I said, I have a gun, Palpabitch.”

The police caught up with Grim. Obi-Wan was standing up now. “Uh, Grim?”

“Shit. My parents are in Star Wars right?”

“I assume so.”

“Good,” she turned to the police and flipped them off. “You won’t catch me alive, fuckers!” Then she ran to the portal, grabbed Obi-Wan and the two Jedi jumped through.

They were back safely in Star Wars. Grim saw her parents and hugged them. “Grim,” they said, relieved. “Sidious, he was-”

“You don’t have to worry about him, " Grim replied. She turned to Obi-Wan, “hey Master, can you close the portal? I don't want the police to catch me.”

“THE WHAT?!” Her parents exclaimed.

“Don’t worry about it,” replied Grim with a shrug.

Obi-Wan closed the portal.

Grim relaxed and laid down. “Finally, The Clone Wars can end with a win for the Jedi, and I have been reunited with my parents.”

“And if I heard you correctly you also just murdered the Supreme Chancellor of the Republic.” Obi-Wan pointed out.

“Fuck.”

Wild West: Cas reflects on Jack's chaotic fourth birthday party, which went about how you would expect with his extended family.

Strong and content I travel the open road: When Dean refuses to fly to get to their family vacation, Dean and Cas discover that road trips are decidedly different with a kid. A fluffy, silly, sweet road trip installment.

me: GA fic is my extremely uncreatively titled next part of my jackanda new lexicon series (fka: ice to never). it's set during the events of me3 and takes place after cerberus have attacked grissom academy. it's a lot of miranda dealing with her complicity in cerberus war crimes when she finds out her previously scuttled HIGHLY UNETHICAL research is being used in the war. also it's partly written to request so there's supposed to be a strap-on scene in there somewhere. it's currently languishing in indefinite hiatus land bc i realized it will take some heavy rewrites to finish and also bc only like three people read my jackanda fics

me: burning bridges tour is part of the same series, but kind of a prequel. it's about the first mission jack and miranda run together, before arrival happens and the normandy is impounded. they're taking out a cerberus base run by miranda's ex, who is an evil MILF. why? because i can. and i think it'd be interesting to explore miranda's previous relationships and how they intersect w her relationship to power anyway. also languishing due to it needs significant rewrites and no one reads these

me: where the lightning went through is my arranged marriage shepard/liara au. humanity went to war in the terminus after getting fed up with batarian raids in the verge, but they did so with heavy asari backing. essentially it's a proxy war. liara as the daughter of a powerful asari political leader and shepard as a celebrity soldier/the first human spectre are encouraged into a political marriage, but they don't really see each other at all for the first year because shepard is on the front lines. then she gets injured and has to go on medical leave to recover and she and liara fall in looooove.

space pirate au: this is just some notes really but it's basically what if mass effect was a long-running 90s sci-fi tv show in the vein of farscape and/or babylon 5 but the normandy crew were lovable mercenary rascals who stole their ship when shepard defected from the military instead of being discharged due to politics and also miranda lawson was a recurring antagonist in the first two seasons that was SUCH a fan favorite she eventually became a series regular by s3. that's the vibe. the reason it is largely unwritten and will probably remain so forever is that it's 90% vibes, 10% plot.

One thing that I haven't stopped thinking about since I saw your post about how Luke is depicted in fanfics, especially as a jedi order basher in time traveling fics for them apparently suppressing his slave culture and that is the simple fact that by the time that Luke is born, his father had not been a slave 14 years and his paternal grandmother had not been a slave for several years as well before her death. So while he has slave blood in him, he himself was not a slave.

Hmmmm, interesting, TBH I'm not the biggest fan of time traveling fics, they have to have a real interesting hook for me to read them (not a big "fix it" fic fan either). I honestly hadn't heard of this complaint before, are people angry that Luke doesn't think about his slave heritage? ...interesting.

Oh wait, I think I get it now...he's apparently angry with the Jedi for suppressing slavery or rather since they haven't been able to end slavery they must then condone it?

*sigh*

This idea that because the Jedi didn't throw their powers around to end slavery in the galaxy is just another one of those unrealistic expectations thrust on the Jedi Order. And frankly it is usually said by people who have no concepts of how the real world or politics works.

Slavery is abhorrent, no one is denying that, but it still exists even in our day and age. Unfortunately we as free countries (wherever we are all from) can't just go into these nations brandishing our weapons and overthrowing their governments - even if we'd really like to. Historically speaking whenever that happens the fallout is tremendous, often times the armies are pulled out before any kind of a replacement government can be formed and so chaos reigns. This would've been no different for the Jedi.

By the time we see them in the Prequels the Jedi only had 10,000 members. Let's assume that's active Knights/Masters/Padawans out in the field and not including the younglings/retired/sick who can't leave the temple. 10,000 people isn't even enough for a small army in our own world yet somehow they were expected to overthrow entire planets? How exactly??

Also, let's say the Jedi did overthrow the Hutts on Tatooine with their 10,000 members what then? Do the Jedi take control of the planet and rule it? Do they leave the planet without a government and then move to the next one? You don't think the Hutts (or someone else) wouldn't swoop in and take over the planet once the Jedi are gone (much like Al Qaeda has done in the Middle East)? Again, this is a very ideological viewpoint and just not very realistic.

Look, I get the concern about Shmi being left behind, but to be honest Qui-Gon ignored his mission and basically bought the Jedi a slave (well, he cheated and won him but that's semantics). The Council rightfully saw this as a concern because of the moral implications of the Jedi going around owning slaves. I think they got around it because they technically freed Anakin, but could you imagine if the media had gotten wind of this story? Holy crap that would've been terrible for the Jedi because it's a gray area at the very least.

And, why was it only up to the Jedi to free Shmi, why not Padme??? The Jedi have very strict rules they have to follow because of their power, and they have no jurisdiction in the Outer Rim...it's like having a nuclear device, you have to have some regulations on it.

And for the record I'd argue the Jedi were doing something to fight slavery throughout the galaxy. The Republic had anti-slavery laws that the Jedi upheld, they also took down the Zygerrian Empire at one point (though it came back once the Sith had distracted the Jedi with a war). There are also several Legends stories of Jedi being sent undercover to known Slavers to help bring them down - my username sake, Siri Tachi was undercover for 4 years gathering intel and bringing down a huge slave ring, so to say the Jedi were doing nothing is ignorant at best.

This is a complicated topic and it makes me really sad that fans have bought into this idea that it's simple. They think that since the Jedi weren't able to eradicate slavery then they just didn't care which is completely and utterly false.

And going back to your point, you're absolutely right technically Luke wasn't a slave. He was born free. Now, yes he does have a heritage that includes slavery, but he also has a heritage that includes royalty and the Jedi, why must he focus on the negative parts of his heritage when he could use the positive ones to make lasting change in the new Republic for slaves?

I don't know, that's my take on it at least.

Star Wars broganes au?

So to start, a disclaimer: I am a Fake Fan. I have not even watched all the movies (and by “not all” I mean like not all the movies entirely the way through, and maybe only watched prequels in random clips I barely), and most my knowledge comes from either the Lego Star Wars videos games and shitposts and memes, so.... Like, I’m just here for digging into the messed up Jedi Order and cool lightsaber fights.

But I have been recently been gripped with the deep desire for a broganes au with Shiro and Keith taking the roles of Obi-Wan and Anakin in the prequels.

Like. Imagine. We keep a lot of the Star Wars universe the same because I’m bastardizing everything anyway  why not? But like, Shiro is the senior padawan who almost wasn’t chosen to be a Jedi, was almost sent away because he was too old and emotional. He had an extremely competent Master but not a particularly nurturing one and mostly learned on the job scrambling to keep up. He’s extremely competent, but in true Shiro style, he’s still convinced he’s somehow behind and he clinging to the Jedi “no emotions” matra in an attempt to prove that he deserves the chance he got. 

Keith is the random kid on Tatooine with an INSANE presence in the Force with no explanation. I think in the AU Shiro has to be the one to find him and go “we need to take this kid with us” because a Shiro without the compulsive adoption instinct is not a Shiro I recognize. But there’s the usual problems with the Council of “he’s too old” and “there is much fear and anger in him” with Keith.

And...idk, plot happens (Allura is the Queen of Naboo?), a Sith appears, and there’s the epic Darth Maul (Darth Myzax?) fight, which Shiro’s master is killed and Shiro managed to kill the Sith single-handed. Which, of course, Shiro completely fails to recognize as the terrifyingly impressive feat it is.

Like in Star Wars canon, this results in Shiro being Knighted still Too Young and with a deeply complicated relationship with his Master that now will never be resolved. And naturally the first thing he does is take Keith as a padawan since the Council refused to train him and Shiro is NOT letting the kid go back to where he came from. 

But this leaves Shiro, barely Knighted, too young, insecure, without support and terrified that if he screws up, the Council will take Keith away from him. And Keith, an angry, traumatized kid with far more power than sense, trying deal with his whole world changing on him and the ramifications of trauma in an environment where feeling are Bad. 

The difference from Kenobi and Anakin being, of course, that Shiro’s nurturing instincts are a force of nature in and of themselves, and Keith’s loyalty to Shiro is a thing to behold. So we’ve got a Master-Padawan duo of two somewhat to completely traumatized young people clinging to each other in an environment that’s supposed to be full of heroes but increasing feels like it’s pitting the world against them and trying to tear them apart. (“No attachment” indeed, and yet at them same time, they only have each other and it increasing feels they can’t let each other go). And still they’re becoming increasingly involved in trying to save the entire galaxy because I mean, it’s Shiro. And Keith. These two both have hearts and ideal too big for their own good.

Star Wars Prequels

I’ve never hidden that I’m not a fan of fake/pretend relationships, but when it’s in a one-shot I'm okay with it, mostly. And both Anakin and Obi-Wan are super adorable and basically fall in love with each other immediately. So much fluff! I also loved how I read this closer to Valentine’s Day than Christmas, yet it’s just the kind of tooth rotting sweetness that's perfect for both seasons!

I know, I know! If I keep this up, the “I hate fake relationships” is gonna become a meme. I think in this one it helps that the angst isn't related just to them faking their relationship but also to them having to hide their secondary gender. Also, so many fancy clothes in this fic! What can I say, I have a soft spot for our lovely Jedi dressed in expensive stuff.

I truly enjoyed the elements of their own lore the author managed to fit in the Star Wars Universe, and every side-character has their own moment to shine… A nice lighthearted series, especially ‘cause every story is under 2.500 words, so you read them in one bite anytime.

If you want an evil Obi-Wan, this is not the fic. BUT, if you want a Sith Obi-Wan that was actually a slave of the Sith and that craved for a chance to join the Jedi, this is perfect. I love how fragile Obi-Wan feels all along, how much he’s ready to sacrifice himself for Qui-Gon. And I adored Obi-Wan’s relationship with everyone else being kinda complicated, since he actually dreams of what happened in canon. A nice touch, truly!

-Faultlines by Chibiobiwan Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan - 24.298 words - Rated T - Mission Fic, Mutual Pining, Hurt/Comfort (TW: Hypothermia, Near Drowning)

I craved for something where Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon are both Anakin’s teacher, and despite how the focus of this fic is more on Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon fixing their relationship, there are still those sweet moments with Anakin that just made me love every single hour it took me to finish it. I can’t put into words how much I wanted to read more of their adventures!

As soon as I read what kind of soulmates AU this fanfiction was, I already knew I would love it. Then I actually fell in love with the story itself. My heart melted so much because of this one! Very much worth checking it out. THAT ENDING, MAN! I WANT MORE!

Am I honestly gonna suggest you read this fic only for one detail that made me squee for 5 minutes straight? You bet I am! Am I gonna spoil that detail for you? NOPE. You really just have to read this. (Hint, it’s about Grogu, ‘cause OF COURSE IT IS!)

-To Build A Home by subtlehysteria Din/Luke - 44.903 words - Rating T - Modern AU, Domestic fluff, Non-Sexual Intimacy

I’m kinda picky when it comes to intimacy with these two, because I honestly feel uncomfortable with the idea of them being sexual. This fic has just one circumstance where they are really intimate, and the scene kept me on the line between making me uncomfortable and still being okay with what's going on. Just giving a heads up to anyone that might share this struggle. Other than that, this fic is absolutely lovely! I love the relationships between every character and I adored how cute Grogu was. The fluff is SO strong with this one, you guys, but I gotta admit that the humor is what touched me the most! (I have a soft spot for fanfictions that make me giggle, sue me.)
