HEY FELLOW ARTISTS!

Can we start a trend where we share the artists we looked up to as kids, and the ones we look up to now?

And I don’t mean, “oh I wish I could draw like them they’re so good”

I mean, “I didn’t even know I wanted to draw until I saw your piece, and I kept thinking, HOW?? DID THEY DO THAT?? Like?? I don’t get it? It’s so good? And heavenly??!!” Like you’re so in awe you couldn’t fathom making the same

And for the ones now, it’s not “oh I follow you cuz your art is really amazing”

But rather “you live in my head, rent free. I don’t even know how u do what you do. and when ever I’m doing art, what i picture my art to look like in my head is in your style cuz I am still in awe”

I’ll go first:

When I was a at least 5 yrs old:

Brett Helquist

He was my biggest influence, and I ended up reading all of his books that he did in the library. Like I cannot think of anyone else who influenced me this much. I was in kindergarden, and his art made me freeze. I could never even imagine the way he used things like texture, perspective or even color. My five year old brain couldn’t handle it. This photo is my favorite of the series. I’m not sure why, but it is.

Peter Ferguson

This one isn’t my favorite; if you read the Sisters Grimm series, the one where Puck kisses Sabrina is my favorite. Maybe its cuz I was like 6 or something, but I’d never seen anyone kiss before in such a realistic way (parents included). Like it wasn’t “Disney-perfect” but it was raw, and it just made me so surprised and happy.

Look, I think about her art all the time. That’s all I can say. She has some sketches here that I can’t get out of my head. The image is just implanted there in a vague memory.

Taylor has been such a big part of my childhood. She influenced my years on Tumblr especially, and I just can get over her art. It’s unattainable in my head.
