I just read the revamped demo and it’s amazing. One of my favorite ifs and can’t wait to see what happens next. Now I know that a lot of stuff was changed including how we meet and interact with the RO’s but I’m wondering did they themselves change from the previous demo? Like are the asks already answered from like 2022 still canon?

Delilah’s new change has me wondering if her shared mysterious background with Mc is still a thing and her motives and feelings regarding the merc due to the possibility of her shacking up or something going on with Orla (besides for plot) and the fact that they can end up with each other or whoever if not romanced.

as for your question, I'd say most things I mentioned on here still apply. there's bound to be some changes, especially with how differently the merc and RO's now interact, and obviously not everything I ever said on here was going to make it into the game, but the backstory of d and the merc was largely kept the same!

there are reasons d is interested in orla beyond the merc and any previous relationship that might or might not have existed, but it'll all be explored in the game.

the possibility of d or any other RO ending up with the others doesn't automatically mean that those endings are happy or even healthy if they come to exist. just that the merc/the players' lack of interest will shape the story instead of having the RO's end up alone when the merc doesn't choose them.

Ever notice that most of the people who don’t like Trapper and Henry simply because they both cheat on their wives seem to have zero problem with Hawkeye’s more negative behaviors and character traits? E.g. His attitude and behavior towards women was probably worse than Trapper’s, though it is unfair to compare the two seeing as Hawkeye was on the show a lot longer.

Don’t get me wrong, I do like Hawkeye. I’m just tired of the fans who act like he’s a total saint and perfect angel who never said or did anything wrong while criticizing other characters for their wrongdoings and flaws.

oh , you’re totally totally right anon . to me , the whole point of trapper and henry was that the good parts outweigh the flaws . they’re not perfect , arguably no one in the show is . and if you don’t like them , fine , that’s valid . but to not like one character and uplift another while they have the same flaws is always bizarre to me . hawkeye is , canonically , a cheater .

hawkeye is important to me because he’s flawed . his flaws , while not his entire character , are such an essential part to who he is as hawkeye . he’s not perfect by any stretch of the imagination . but he’s good . why is he good ? because despite his flaws , despite some bad habits , at his heart he at least makes an attempt to be good . you can’t acknowledge that without acknowledging that he isn’t a perfect person .

alright, i looked trough your blog and it is quite fascinating both for original parts of your narrative and how it seems specifically based off of ultrakill plot as of 6-2. with later versions will you plan to edit your AU to fit with new narrative elements or you prefer to keep it true to how it is now?

on the note of newer narrative elements, what is your interpretation for mind of hell? it really does seem that if ultrakill has a true main antagonist then it is hell itself. and with current way how it was characterized it seems to have "inherited" the world from god and is in complete control over current situation. angels are lost without gods plan and just try to make the same motions as before. humanity may have actually been ended by hell's design, even with how much the earths machines act as a force of nature hell seems to comfortably channel them like water and using for its own purposes and entertainment. so far hell restrained itself only for its wins to be more cathartic (various "uprisings" on different layers), and so far is the most in control and very distinctly from everyone else is absolutely enjoying its time

so yeah, i am really curios on your take on hell's mind in both official material and your AU since i saw only very passing mentions for it in your posts

ooooo good questions tbh...i've definitely thought a lot about what will happen with the au as ultrakill reaches its end and what i'll do about elements obviously becoming unfit compared to the story. i think it really depends on how much it's going to be off, but i will be honest in saying i would have a tough time abandoning my ocs if official versions of michael, raphael, uriel, or lucifer are introduced! i think of course they would be well done and i would actually love to see them in canon, but i think it would cause a divergent au in that case. because i would love to explore how this au might fit into whatever becomes canon, but i've just developed the world and characters too much to leave the au behind as it is now. overall though, i just need to see how it ends and what it introduces to know where i might want to go, if i'd want to do a properly canon-divergent au when everything is said and done, or if i might just...stick with a canon-divergent from 6-2 onward. it's funny bc i actually was nervous about this just with layer 7 dropping, so i can't imagine how anxious i'll be for the last 2 layers! esp with lucifer looming in treachery - i think it's very up in the air if any of the other archangels will play a role in the game at this point, but more about lucifer is highly likely to come imo so!!! it's a big waiting game to find out!!

you're right in that i haven't done too much with hell, though i am interested in it as a character - i have considered it more with lucifer becoming much more of an element in the au, as he has spoken with it constantly and hell is sort of...in love with him, in an abstract way. it views him still as one of the most beautiful works it has, the first bright and radiant thing it had ever seen in its misery, but hell has become utterly engrossed with the cruelty of humanity. while lucifer was some celestial god that fell to it, humanity had minds much like it, and so it fell in love with them in a way it could understand. hell is always searching for more, an artist always looking for inspiration while holding lucifer as its muse. it's the capacity they connect with on the most, both great creators with god's spark in them, and admittedly, in his suffering, lucifer sometimes understood hell's work. but lucifer was secure, lucifer it had always to speak to, but increasingly it whispered the brutality of mankind, the wonderful inventions of their minds and the horrible works of their hands it began to copy. it hooked itself into the terminals they installed, and so lucifer gained all the knowledge of machines through their internal circuit. and when mankind was wiped out, hell became master in a world run by automation with all the creators gone from their servants. it has all it wants, and it indulges in testing its creations upon the machines and the husks of mankind in such tangible joy that an abstract like lucifer could not bring to it. lucifer it relates to in hatred, in his deep, abyssal loathing of the god that trapped him here, but even that is something more abstract to hell than the brutality of humanity - lucifer hates perfectly, he hates with the mind of god, and it is not met precisely by hell as hell was born into what it is.

so what then can hell feel when lucifer is released from it, when the dragon is cut down and its flesh severed from treachery's? this is really where i want to explore the relationship between lucifer and hell, what they are to each other - hell is a take on "this place loves you", but it is entirely malignant, noxious and harmful, while lucifer recognizes it as the hideous creation he fell trying to destroy, yet it is now irrevocably his home, the one entity he now knows. they are tangled up in each other, lucifer in an obvious sense but hell now cannot bear to lose its little spark of god's light. something in his beauty sustains it, it pulls at him constantly now that he's partially left it, and lucifer is stranded not knowing what decision to make. he still hears it speaking to him, esoteric fragments made up of the ambient noise of its body, but what can he do with it now? it is alive, sentient, a being put into a wretched position by god which condemns it for how antithetical it is to the fulfillment of all other creations. lucifer wanted it gone. he protested against it all those eons ago. but now he is frozen by choice, seeing it behave as some evil god yet knowing it cannot be any other way. what is fair then? to find some way to kill it? to cut off whatever constitutes its brain? to reason with it? try to change its very essence? lucifer must work through the possibilities while accepting hell, in so many ways, is the place he now wants to be. free at last, but once more full of despair. how can he kill his home and what might be his only friend? how can he reason with it, when he once tried the same with god and was struck down? how can he change it when he is just a pale shadow of what made something so monstrous in the first place? yet he fears hell will grow angry in its stasis, in running out of victims for its cruelty, and act out in retaliation

So, I'm assuming this question is in relation to the interpretation that JZX's death and WWX's loss of control can be attributed to his mental state (and not guidao), and therefore (along with JZX actually being the one to attack first) WWX can't be considered entirely responsible for it. This is not exactly an opinion that I have—I do not believe WWX's cultivation is completely harmless.

To discuss this I think it would be helpful to first look at another translation by Gggg_Zhan of this interview excerpt, and also consider the context of MXTX's answer.

When MXTX says he in the one responsible for the death of JZX, it is specifically in relation to the interviewer asking if there was someone else behind it (such as CQL's second flautist), so when she says he is responsible, I do not think she is denying that there are mitigating factors (mental state/guidao, self defense), she is just specifically saying that that was no other person involved.

As well as that, it is pretty clear from Zhan's translation of this interview that MXTX outright said WWX's mental state did play a role in his loss of control, as well as his long-term use of guidao.

And actually, even back during the SSC, WWX was aware his cultivation was having some effect on him, this was in fact why he decided to forge the yin hufu.

'When Wei Wuxian first forged it, he didn’t deliberate too much over it. As he had to use his very own life essence [6] to control zombies and evil spirits, there were times where he was bound to feel tired.' (ch.30, tmwx)

Tangent about 'life essence' — the footnote tmwx gave for this is: '[6] 元神 (yuán shén) – Can be translated as “life essence” or “primordial spirit”. In Taoism, it is defined as a level of existence that can be cultivated, surpassing that of physical existence, capable of existing independently in the form of a soul.' Back when I first read this, I was curious about how WWX's cultivation worked and what exactly this meant in the context of MDZS, so I searched for instances of 元神 in the chinese version. In many instances it was translated to soul (for example MXY's 元神 was destroyed in the ritual), in ch.64 it is mentioned that the songs in the collection of turmoil will disturb one's 元神.

So I think when it says WWX's use of his life essence/soul/元神 to control corpses made him tired, it is maybe not as simple as just feeling tired, but rather more of a spiritual or mental fatigue. Additionally, in the original draft of MDZS, WWX told LWJ and JC in the supervisory office that he uses his 元神 to control corpses, this seems to confirm to LWJ that WWX's cultivation is harmful and prompts him to inquire a few times specifically about his temperament which was also removed in the edits.

It's also clear from the Nightless city battle that WWX's control over his corpses is tied to his control over his emotions

The more Wei WuXian panicked, the less control he had. [...] He took up Chenqing, placed it by his lips, and began to play. He only managed to steady his mind with great effort. This time, the corpses finally stopped ignoring his commands.

In chapter 7 we are told WWX's cultivation is harmful: 'Wei Wuxian’s method of cultivation might have been denounced by the rest of the cultivation world, and would also affect the practitioner’s constitution in the long run. However, one could achieve results quickly, as this form of cultivation was not restricted by spiritual powers or innate talent.' (tmwx)

When looking at all of these things together, we can make some assumptions about exactly why WWX's cultivation is harmful.

As we know, WWX can only use corpses that are already resentful. In order to control them he must control their resentment, stir it up, direct, and calm it as he requires. Since WWX's control of them is tied to his control over his own emotions, it would require constant mental and emotional effort — this is part of the reason why not just anyone can control corpses like WWX does, WWX is extremely skilled at rationalising, suppressing or letting go of his feelings, so I believe he applies that to his cultivation too.

However, 'though Wei Wuxian thought that his heart was like a stone, in the end, he was still human, not some emotionless grass or plant.'

What human could keep up such strenuous control over themselves forever? Who could take on the resentful energy of others and manage it every day without it wearing down on their mental state? We see WWX become more short-tempered, sometimes cold, sometimes angry after he starts using guidao, until it culminates in him losing losing control entirely. I think WWX's mental state and WWX's cultivation are far too intertwined to draw any sort of line between them, the two are compounding.

So it seems WWX's cultivation can harm his mind. I think we should also consider if resentful energy can harm him more directly. There is canonical evidence it can, such as how the strong resentment of NMJ's arm caused all the (high-level) Lan cultivators to qi deviate to the point of passing out. WWX seems wholly unaffected by it, probably he is more than used to it, after being around such energy day after day for many years of his life. But is he immune to it? Probably not.

Now onto the morality of this — is WWX's cultivation wrong because it can be harmful? No. I find this idea very silly. Should sports, such as figure skating, be considered morally wrong because of risk of harm? Obviously not. As well as that, regular cultivation in MDZS carries a risk of harm too — cultivators can die from qi deviation, its not even considered that unusual.

So, could WWX's cultivation be considered wrong because there is a risk of losing control, and therefore harming others? Also no... but within reason.

WWX had never lost control over his cultivation before, so I don't think it is fair to say he should have seen it coming or consider his loss of control a moral failing on his part. It was an accident that he couldn't have predicted. Post-canon, he's in a very different position to his first life, he no longer needs to use guidao constantly every day (remember that it is only over the long-term that it can be harmful). Mentally & emotionally he is in a much better state and is definitely not at risk of losing control over himself as he had before. Plus, now that he has LWJ by his side, he will definitely always be okay no matter what.
