Y/N POV:
It was Sunday night, we came not so long ago back from a date. In the meanwhile, we were already laying in bed. I rested my head on his chest, as he pressed soft kisses on my head. Everything was perfect now.
'You're beautiful.' he spoke, happily. I giggled by his statement.
'And, you are gorgeous.' I said, before turning my head to face him.
'I love you.' he spoke, sweetly.
'I love you more.'
A smile appears on his face, as he cupped my chin in his hands.
'Not possible.' he chuckled, before pressing our lips together.

The moment was absolutely perfect. Unfortunately, it got ruined by an annoying sound of a text notification, coming from Spencer's phone. He groaned at the sound, as he leaned over, to grab his phone. He stared for a few moments to the screen, before suddenly jumping up.
'Love, is everything alri-'
'What the fuck?' he cutted me off, clearly angry.
'I-I can't believe they're invited me.' he began, sitting back on the mattress.
'W-why would they?'
'Love, what's wrong?' I said, as I took him in my arms.
He simply gave me his phone, while he buried his face in the crook of my neck. Worriedly, I took it, and began to read the message. It read:
"Hey Spencer, remember me? It's been years since I last saw you. How are you? Well, I just wanted to invite you to the class reunion. Everyone is going to be there. I will send you all the information. Maybe see you then. -Max-"
I couldn't believe this. This text is from one of Spencer's old classmates. The ones that bullied him for so long. After six months of dating Spencer, he truly opened up for me. He told everything he went through. Including his childhood.
I took him in a tight hug, while I rubbed his back. And, planted sweet kisses on his head.
'I'm so sorry, love. I know what they did. I'm so sorry you went through all of that.'
'But, I still think you need to go.' I continued.
He slowly pulled back, a tear escaping his eye. He brushed it quickly off, as he looked at me, with confusian.
'Wh-what do you mean?' he asked, his voice high pitched.
'Well, I think it's the best that you go. I mean, they bullied you for so long, and they probably don't expect you. You can show them how much you've grown, even what they did to you.' I spoke, as I kept comforting him.
For a few moments, it was quiet. I saw him thinking, considering it.
'Okay, I do it. But, can you come with me?'
'Of course, love. I'm already so proud of you.' I pulled him in a soft hug.

A week later:
Spencer was parking the car, at the place where it's all going to happen. When the car stood still, he gave an insecure look at me.
'You're going to do great!' I assured him, looking in his eyes. He nodded.
'You're ready?'
'Yeah, let's go.'
We both stepped out, before going to the large garden. It was a sunny day, not a cloud to be seen. The big garden looked beautiful. Everything was green, and there were some large tables with food on it. There was so much nature.
Soon enough, a tall boy walked towards us.
'Spencer Reid, is that you? I can't believe it, how are you doing?' the boy exclaimed.
'I'm good. Uhm, I want you to meet someone. This is (Y/N), my girlfriend.' Spencer said, a little nervous.
'It's nice to meet you, I'm Max, Spencer and I, were in the same class.' he introduced himself.
'It's nice to meet you too.' I replied, shaking his hand politely.
'Well, Spencer, what are you doing for the living?'
'Actually, me and (Y/N), are working for the BAU, Behavior Analyst Unit, as profilers.'
'No way! I never thought you were brave enough for that.' Max replied, before he got called by other girls, who were standing a little further.
He quickly said goodbye, as he went to them, and before I could say anything, we heard Spencer's name got called again from behind us. We both turned around, as Spencer searched for my hand. When he found it, he squeezed it, slightly. This was not a good sign.
'If that isn't Spencer Reid. Are you going to strip again for us?' the two boys laughed, as they came a little closer.
'And, who are you?' one of the boys asked me.
'I'm (Y/N), Spencer's girlfriend.' I introduced myself, already irritated.
'Wait, Spencer has actually a girlfriend? Where did you found her, Spencer? She is way too beautiful for a goof like you.'
I was already mad at the first sentence the boy had said. This only made me more and more angry.
'Tell me, (Y/N), do you also think that his facts and statistics are so boring, that you just want to kill yourself?' he asked, grinning.
I just saw the pain in Spencer's eyes, while he once more squeezed my hand, slightly. It was terrible. I needed to do something.
'Don't talk to him like that. Spencer is the most beautiful, smartest, sweetest, person I ever met. And, I LOVE his random facts and statistics.' and with that, I walked away, dragging Spencer with me.
Still hand in hand, we went a little further in the garden, finding a spot under a tree, where nobody could see us.
'I'm so sorry, love. It was horrible what they said, and so untrue. But, believe me, I meant every word I said. You are so wonderful, Spencer. I'm sorry, I pushed you to come to he-' I started, as suddenly Spencer pressed his lips at mine.
I smiled into the soft, sweet, kiss, before pulling away.
'You have absolutely nothing to apologize for. Thank you so much for helping me. I really needed you.' he replied, meaning every word of it.
'Of course, love. Let's go home.' I smiled.
He nodded, as we walked back, towards the exit, as we suddenly heard Spencer's name got called again. However, this time it wasn't from behind, but from the front.
There stood a tall, blonde, girl, in a short black dress, and high heels.
'Spencer? That's a long time ago. How are you?' she asked, coming closer to us.
'I'm good, what about you?'
'I'm great! I need to say, you are a lot more handsome.' the girl spoke, in a flirty way.
'T-thank you. Alexa, this is (Y/N), my girlfriend.'
When I heard that name, it shot me like a bullet. It was THE Alexa. The Alexa, who tricked Spencer into meeting behind the field house, only to tied him up and strip him naked. When Spencer told me that, it broke my heart. That she is now here, talking to him, made me furious.
'It's nice to meet you.' Alexa said, as she shook my hand.
'Same.' I tried to say politely. She smiled at me, before turning to Spencer.
'Spence, can I talk to you for a minute?'
'Oh, I don't know. We were just about to leav-' she cutted him off.
'Please?' puppy eyes on her face.
'Okey then.'
He turned back to me, saying: 'I'm right back.', as he pressed quickly a kiss on my forehead. I saw them leaving, as they went a little further in the garden. I kept watching them from a distance, as they were talking. Suddenly, my eyes got wide. Alexa kissed Spencer. I was shocked, but Spencer immediately pulled away.
'ALEXA STOP!' Spencer yelled, furious.
'Why? For that stupid girl there?' she chuckled, clearly meaning me.
In the meanwhile, everyone was watching us. Just watching.
'DON'T call her that. Yes, I have a beautiful girlfriend. But even, if I hadn't, I still wouldn't date someone who only looks at the outside of a person.' he defended me.
'Oh, com on, Spencer. She probably doesn't even love you.' Alexa rolled her eyes.
That was the moment, I walked towards my beautiful boyfriend, and kissed him passionately.
Everyone was in shock, as they really thought, I only played his girlfriend. The jerks.
'I love you.' I spoke sweetly, as we ended the kiss.
'I love you more.' he said, in a smile.
'Not possible.' I grinned, while I softly took his hand, dragging him to the car.
We felt everyone's eyes on us burning, as it was completely silent. We couldn't care less, and stepped both in the car.
_________________________
The whole car ride, we stayed quiet. We were deep in thoughts, both processing what happened. When I opened the door to our shared apartment, we immediately plopped into the couch.
'(Y/N), I'm so sorry that happened. But, I promise you, that kiss didn't meant anything for me. You're the only one for me.' he spoke, pulling me into a tight hug.
'I know, Spence. It's okay, I saw she kissed you, and besides, you immediately pulled away.'
'Thank you. What should I do without you?' he asked, smiling.
'Well, probably not going to the reunion.' we both laughed, as he pulled me a little further, so he could see my face.
He gently pressed a soft kiss on my lips, smiling both into it. He slightly pulled away, ending the kiss.
'Wanna watch a movie and cuddle up?' he asked, holding me already close.
'Always.'

1 thru 5. Various covers/editions for the book we're interested in.
1906: The Earth (is) Not Hollow.
"Mizora: A Prophecy" by Mary E.B. Lane, is a feminist utopian story that was serialized in the Cincinnati Commercial newspaper from 1880 to 1881.
It would only come out in book form from 1890 on.
Plot: The story is narrated by a Princess Vera, who's reform minded & has Polish friends in Tsarist Russia.
Vera's exiled to Siberia for her political views. But, bribes her way out of prison.
Hoping to rejoin her husband & son (who are in France), Vera escapes in a whaling ship.
But, she's left to spend the Arctic winter with the Inuit people.
Somehow getting a boat, Vera's swept off by a whirlpool & ends up in Mizora, a Hollow Earth land.
Here the 'heavens' are lit up by an inherent electricity & a 3,000 year old female civilization runs all things.
Most men killed each other off in a terrible civil war. The surviving men were then allowed to die out!!
The women now keep up a stable population thru 'virgin' births! And, they 'elevate' (controlled evolution?) their all blonde race via eugenics!
All criminal, mentally disabled or dark skinned women aren't allowed to have children...
(Official eugenics & casual racism always seems to go together.)
This utopia has gotten rid of poverty, disease, crime, religion & sex!!!
No one is poor & education is free - til age 25. And all of the people enjoy the suppleness & bloom of youth.
Everyone lives in co-housing & share beautiful gardens. Their "mighty city" revolves around a type of suburban planning & zoning.
Due to Mizora being a land of "mind workers," automata (robots) do all of the menial work. But, certain labors are still seen as a social duty for all.
Some things, like cooking, are handled by experts - chemists in this case! Foodstuffs must be served in their 'purest' form.
Intellectuals form Mizora's only known aristocracy.
After 15 years in Mizora, Vera feels homesick & returns to Imperial Russia.
Criticism: Lane's "Mizora" is the 1st significant novel on a female utopia.
As is usual for these types of works, Lane's book reads easily. But, is long in describing its utopia's superiority.
Sadly, "Mizora" is also quite short on any sort of plot - other than the escape from Russia...
It's kind of hard to accept a society that doesn't have some type of ambition, controversy, dissention, jealousy or striving for personal goals.
Mizora's civilization is actually kind of Confusian, in that its leaders set a good example for their citizens & society just runs itself.
Among Mizora's scientific advances are: video phones, carbon dioxide enrichment of crops & food prep that's a form of experimental alchemy!
The science 'used' in Mizora reminds 1 of Margaret Newcastle's "The Blazing World" - from 1666!!
Both works are set in alternate places reached by "crossing the 'open' sea at the North Pole."
But, in "Blazing World," our Earth is linked to another planet - like beads in a pearl necklace!!
Legacy: Murat Halstead, editor of the Cincinnati Commercial newspaper said that "Mizora" was popular in the Ohio River Valley.
Halstead stated, "Mizora attracted a great deal of attention, commanding a wide circle of readers (here)."
Despite Halstead's 'hype', "Mizora" actually created no real 'stir' when it was finally released as a novel...
"Mizora" is seen as a precursor to C.P. Gilman's "Herland" & S.M. Gearhart's "Wander Ground." All of these works envision women led worlds where men are unnecessary...
Pics:
1 & 2. Where to look in, for an overview of these kinds of sci-fi/fantasy novels.
3 & 4. The only artwork I could find online of the "mighty city" of Mizora.
Author: There's little that's actually known about Mary E.P. Lane.
It's known that Lane was an Ohio Public School teacher & author.
She was the daughter of a rural doctor & Union Army staff physician. Later, she would marry a Cincinnati lawyer & Civil War vet 10 years older than she was.
The couple had no known kids.
No copy of her 1895 novel "Escanaba" has been found. The title is the name of a town in Michigan.
But, we know she wrote "The Magic Lens" for the Cincinnati Gazette.
Any other works remain unknown...
The only other major notes in Lane's life are a court case & federal letter campaign.
1st, she accused one Edward Bellamy for plagiarism!
Lane had submitted her "Mizora" manuscript to Houghton-Miffin. They kept it, she stated, long enough to steal her work's crucial elements & turned it into Bellamy's "Looking Backward" - published in 1888.
But, utopian stories are much older than both books - going back all the way back to Plato's Atlantis...
2nd, she wrangled - thru the mail - with the federal government, over her all-too-small, widow's pension...
Other than that, she remains a mystery. I couldn't even find a photo or portrait of her - online.
(Any help with these problems would be happily appreciated.)

Castle in the sky theme
Would Miyazaki agree with Bill when he drops “God is a word, and the argument ends there”? I’m reminded of the sentiment in songs such as Bill Callahan’s “Oh do I feel like the mother of the world, with two children fighting”. Miyazaki seems to be mourning not just for his own mother’s loss, but for the loss of the innocence of the world. The environmental themes that feature strongly in this film and other Miyazaki themes also delve into the concept of Mother-Earth. Through this prism, we can perhaps start to see Castle In The Sky as being something of an elegy to his long suffering and recently departed mother. Hayao has first-hand experience of the fear of being a motherless child from a young age. Perhaps it is not surprising that orphan characters feature prominently in this and other of his films. This means Hayao’s mother was gravely ill for much of his formative childhood years. Miyazaki’s mother is said to have been of weak constitution, and had spinal tuberculosis in the post-war years 1947-55. How much of Miyazaki’s own mother’s character can be found here? Captain Dola, is strong and commanding, but also compassionate and warm. Take a look at the character of the boss-mother of the pirate gange in Castle in the Sky. It is hard to imagine that Miyazaki wasn’t using his art to work through his own personal loss at this time. Maternal themes and mother figures permeate the film. Motherly figure of Nausicaa, inspiration for Miyazaki’s first filmīy Frederic Leighton, 1st Baron Leighton – Art Renewal Center – description, Public Domain, Ĭastle in the Sky Laputa was released around two years after the death of Miyazaki’s mother.
Ancestors, families, look after their own. The ticket only works if you have the right blood though. How does it get you there? Through the medium of flight of course, this time pure and unadulterated by the need for mechanical devices, technology or gadgetry. The ancestors even have a magical stone that they pass down through the generations that functions as a special ticket to their exclusive world. The idea of a mythic people who are guardians of a magical other world is connected to the Confusian ideals of respect, even deification, of ancestors. Sheeta’s memories revolve strongly around the teachings of her mother and the desire to do right in her eyes. Pazu is out to redeem his father’s honour in the eyes of the world. Indeed, Pazu is driven by the desire to vindicate his father’s life mission, to prove the existence of the mythical land of Laputa.
The idea of filial piety, which wikipedia defines as a virtue of respect for one’s parents, elders, and ancestors is seen in the loving affection that main characters Pazu and Sheeta hold for their deceased parents. This family connection leads into another major theme in Castle In The Sky, the relationship between child and parent. This yin-yang style dark and light human coexistence is perhaps even parralled by the darker, Nazi sympathising tendencies of global aviation hero Lindbergh himself. Evil, like the aeroplanes that his dad worked on were used for.įor the Miyazaki, the struggle between innate human ingenuity and human depravity is personal. In the Fandor video, Miyazaki also talks about how the technology of flight, developed by those with noble intent, inevitably gets swept up in the prevailing winds of the time and ends up being used for evil. It was as if an alien hand touched down from Mars. Bill Bryson vividly describes in his fantastic book One Sumer: America 1927 how, when Charles Lindbergh completed the first transatlantic flight from New York to Paris, he was greeted by no less than 100,000 parisians. Flying machines were, and are, a symbol of humanity’s ability to transcend its surroundings. In the Fandor video above, there is an excerpt of Miyazaki talking about his own, his family’s, and indeed humanity at large’s, relationship with the aeroplane. You can see how the aeroplane, and flight more generally, has influenced his work and become such a major motif. Hayao Miyazaki’s father was an engineer who worked on the Zero fighters.
