@conjvring asked: ❛ is this the part where you kick me out? ❜
-
"I'm not kicking you out. Nor do I plan to."
Aberforth's gaze was soft, if a little confused at the question. It had been a simple accident, a glass knocked over and smashed, nothing that hadn't happened twenty million times before, but the boy had frozen up as if it were the end of the world, and it broke Aberforth's heart to think that he might presume he would be put out for something so small.
"It was an accident, son, it's alright, I promise."

HANDS FOLDED ATOP HIS DESK, he watches as Credence shuffles into his office, HEAD BOWED, as it always was. Theres a trepidation, Severus feels, knowing he is about to deliver words that very well may not be taken well — But it is NECESSARY that he does, for as much of a mentor && a caregiver as his Albus-given task had assigned him to be, he is still a TEACHER, no matter how painted in the air of parentality he now is.  A hand is proffered to the chair opposite him, a silent request that Credence sit.     ❝ I’ve just received your History of Magic quiz back from Professor Binns, ❞   He begins, lifting the parchment from the worn wood of his desk to EXAMINE IT, as though he hadn’t already looked it over && noted the grade on the top leftmost corner of the page, a ‘P’.   While it could certainly be WORSE, it is in no way IDEAL, && Severus finds it hard to understand just why a failing grade stamps the work he holds in his hands.
THEY’D GONE OVER IT ENOUGH, && though considerably less-so than the practising of performing magic ( which in Severus’ opinion, was slightly more important for the boy to learn than the wars of ages passed ), they HAD gone over it.  && Yet, here, in his hands, rests a quiz HALF-ANSWERED — Blanks upon blanks where information should lay based on the reading material, based on their private lessons.  The questions answered are decent, though scratchy, hard to read, && spotted with the slightly more-than-occasional misspelling, but Severus can chalk that up to NERVES.  It isn’t easy, the situation Credence has been put in, && PERHAPS IT WAS SIMPLY HARD FOR HIM TO FOCUS.  There is so much else for Credence to worry about, so many other things to learn — Severus knows it is difficult, all of these factors taken into great consideration ... But as a teacher, he feels he is FAILING, && though he UNDERSTANDS, he also knows that these failing grades will not do in the eyes of others, and will not aid Credence in his newfound place in the magical world, where he will be expected to work, && perform to standards he has only just learned exist.    ❝ While I sympathize with the common reasoning that Professor Binns’ manner of teaching is less than exciting, and that you’ve much to focus on, outside of those lessons ... Your grades are faltering quite significantly, Credence. ❞
❝ — I suppose, on a level, I am struggling to understand why. You’ve the material at your disposal, books, and such … You spend quite some time outside of lessons on your own, and though yes, having time to spare is important, your education is as well, ❞   His words feel HARSHER than they are, though they don’t sound it in terms of tone. He is being as DELICATE as he knows how.   ❝ I am aware that it is difficult for you, being so novel to these things … But I worry about your overall success in education, ❞
Tumblr media
❝ What I am saying is that I need you to try to focus on reading the material, Credence. On studying. Am I making sense ? ❞

CREDENCE
@conjvring;;
SHE’D ALWAYS hated most people. people were cruel. people stared and screamed and mocked. ever since she was a child. ever since she had first learned about the blood curse. she’d always been the one the attention was focused on - though it was something he heavily detested. she would have rather faded into the back ground. become part of the scenery. it wasn’t her fault that she was able to transform into something a lot of people were so terrified of. it wasn’t her fault that she was now jaded. she blamed everyone else.
that had been at least, until she had met credence. he was different. but similiar. the two had much in common, the parallels obvious to her, even if they weren’t to the others. she didn’t care about them, though. from the moment she had met credence - from the moment she had found out about the obscurus, her heart went out to the boy. she knew what it felt like to be different, and to be abused because of that difference.
even though she was - at the moment, in her human form, she still sat criss-cross on the floor of her cage, eyes scanning the pages of the book in front of her. she’d heard him enter the tent, but she hadn’t glanced up. not yet. she wanted to finish this passage. but still, she spoke aloud - to let him know it was ok that he approached. “ you may come in, you know. i will just be a moment. it is unlocked. ”

She didn’t like it here.
She wanted to go home, wanted to go back to her ma and pa, and her brothers and sisters. It had been a little cramped, sure, but it was home, and she already missed them. She didn’t want to be here, with the new clothes that were tidier but scratchy on her skin, with the new woman who insisted on being called Ma, and who insisted on calling her a new name.
Her name wasn’t Modesty. Her name was Lizzie.
There were other children here too, though both of them seemed to be older than her, a girl with a slightly pinched face, and a dark haired boy who seemed to Lizzie to be almost be wary of his own shadow. They were supposed to be her new brother and sister, even though she already had brothers and sisters. Shuffling backwards on the bed, she pulled her knees up to her chest and hugged them, pouting a little and lost in thought.

@conjvring said :   “   how did you explain to your friends why you were switching schools?   ”   from credence   //   hogwarts starters.

a smile turns her lips upwards,   tilting her head at the inquiry.   it’s not one that many of her friends would ask,   probably not something that occurs to most members of the wizarding world.   it’s a unique struggle of muggle-borns,   having one foot in the wizarding world and the other in the world of muggles.   it’s not as if she was completely friendless in her first eleven years of life,   after all.   how was she to explain to her smattering of friends at the time that she’d be going to a completely different school,   seemingly out of nowhere?   and where could she tell them she was attending that would be safe from attempted corroboration efforts?   “   that’s a great question.   it’s not exactly something they include in the orientation packet,   now is it?   ”   those packets being approximately TWO slips of parchment:   the invitation letter and class supply list.   something in desperate need of reform,   especially for muggle-borns.   “   essentially i just told them i’d be attending a very exclusive and rigorous boarding school.   i always tried to stay very vague on its precise location or any actual details.   eventually,   as the years have gone on,   i’ve...   ”   the thought of all that’s passed since her first year in these halls gives her pause for a second,   smile taking on a hint of sadness as she continues.   “   well,   i’ve fallen out of touch with most of those old friends.   ”   she shrugs,   warmth returning to her smile as she brings back an upbeat tone,   “   but i’ve made new ones here.   ”

The world was a total shit show.
Percival had seen a world at war before, though primarily it had been the muggles business, but this...this was different. And after everything that had happened in Bhutan, everybody was on high alert, MACUSA especially. After all, they knew all too well the dangers of Gellert Grindelwald (and he’d slipped right under their goddamn noses, as he liked to remind them, if only for the somewhat shamed looks he received in response). Anyone sane likely would have retired from his job, particularly given everything he’d been through but Percival Graves was nothing if not bloody stubborn, and also, potentially, just a little bit determined that he might get his own back on the bastard who’d had him imprisoned for nearly a year.
From what research he’d gathered, he knew Theseus Scamander was involved, which reassured him greatly. He’d first met Theseus during the war, and they’d kept in touch. Theseus was a damn good wizard, and upon asking had asked him to meet him in some little pub near the British wizarding school. It hadn’t been too tricky to commandeer an international portkey, and before long he found him pushing open a slightly creaky door and stepping in out of the cold.

@conjvring asked: “I don’t want to go back to sleep…” - From Credence
Blue eyes softened as Aberforth Dumbledore turned his head to look at the young man. His son. Taking the few remaining steps, the elder man sat down beside Credence, one hand instinctively raising slowly and gently to brush across the boy's forehead before tucking his hair back from his face. So many years he'd missed out on, so many memories he'd not been present for. He should have been there, but he hadn't been.
"That's alright, lad. You want something to drink?"
There wasn't a guide for how you were meant to go about reuniting with your long lost son, not that, Aberforth mused, it would likely apply in a situation such as theirs. Nonetheless he was determined t do right by the young man.

In truth, Theseus still wasn’t entirely sure what to make of the young man. He knew what Newt had told him, of course, how he’d first seen the boy in New York, how he’d been in a horrible situation, beaten and then used and manipulated. To survive all that was truly quite something, particularly given that the last few years hadn’t been all that much kinder to him.
They’d all come back to the Hog’s Head, worn out and exhausted (and alright, perhaps a little exhilarated at the duelling he’d gotten to do, he’d always been a little bit of a thrill seeker) and he found himself dropping down into an armchair across from the darker haired man.
“That...it was a brave thing you did back there.”

@conjvring asked: “  i just.  needed to talk to you ‘cause.  somehow you always know what to say.  ” -
-
"You can always talk to me."
A soft, gentle smile crossed Edith's features as she looked up at her son fondly. Her baby, all grown up, yes, but he would always be her baby, no matter his age. Reaching up (he had definitely taken after his father in height, merlin knew he hadn't gotten it from her), she brushed the hair away from his face, gently clasping his cheek.
"What is it, my dear?"

@conjvring asked:  ❛ why do you care? you could have just walked away. ❜           ↳   for the damaged sentence starters
Tumblr media
He didn’t answer right away, eyes focused on the welts and cuts that had come from before his interference. Salazar had never been the best at HEALING, often seeking to prevent injuries before they came. Thankfully he knew a thing or two about magical herbs that could help the process from his wife. Tenderly applying the salve he had crafted, he didn’t so much as look at the other male’s face. Perhaps some might find it absurd, the history of the great wizard, but there had been a time where he had once been left HELPLESS at the hands of family as well. Memories of himself as a young boy cowering, of screaming and curses flown around their home. Never again had anyone laid hands on him in such a manner nor would Salazar ever allow it to happen.  ❝  ——When I was a young lad, my father somehow thought that I would learn best from VIOLENCE. He cared far more about our family’s status than his actual family. I suppose you could say I have a soft spot for those in similar situations.  ❞  His voice was quiet, even a little softer than how he normally spoke with such PRIDE. Now was hardly the time for his own ego.  ❝  The salve will help with the pain and healing so long as you keep it bandaged.  ❞

LUCIUS
@conjvring  ♥
CAREFULLY LOWERING his hood, amycus made sure that his mask stayed into place as he slipped into the prison, wand flicking to unlock the cells as he passed them. he hadn’t been instructed on who exactly to free from azkaban now that the dementors were on the dark lords side. he had just been told to go and release whoever he could. so, thats what he did.
drifting to a stop in front of one of the last cells left to unlock, he was glad that the man behind the bars couldn’t see his face. gloved hands reached out to wrap around the cold steel bars and he leaned forward slightly, bright eyes studying lucius with a tad of distaste in his eyes. “ my, my. how the mighty have fallen. leaving your wife and son to pick up the pieces of your failure. truly, i don’t know if i should bother releasing you. ”
