The residency at Baylor never opened up. Sarah was stuck at Med following the Robert Haywood incident and she was right. After everything, people- all staff alike whispered. About her. Her father and what happened the night he collapsed. She did her best to ignore them though.

Her days were now spent avoiding Dr. Charles unless she had to talk to him. While she also avoided Noah Sexton following her rejection of him. She should have taken April's offer to talk to her brother to get him to ease up. But after the mess with her father, she was reluctant to accept help from anyone.

Her only reprieve was her friends in the ED. They kept her busy most of the time with consults so she didn't have to talk to Dr. Charles often. Months passed and she wasn't happy by any means, but she got used to it. Because it could always be worse.

Instead, her other safety net came in the form of her brother-in-law. Or was it former brother-in-law? Sarah wasn't sure what the terminology was with Nic now gone.

"Well, well, if it isn't little Sarah Reese: big shot resident," Sarah turned at the sound of the familiar voice and Conrad Hawkins' stared back at her with an easy grin.

"What are you doing here? You didn't tell me you were coming when I was facetiming with Gigi last month!" She exclaimed as she turned and wandered closer. Allowing her half-sister's husband to wrap her in a tight hug. Chastain had sent Conrad along to scout out the Hybrid OR.

"Okay," Conrad said, a week after he got there. She had been in line to get a cup of coffee when he appeared behind her. "There are dozens of rumors flying around about you. But I don't care about them because you're going to tell me what's actually going on."

When Sarah glanced back she saw a look that she had only heard about from her big sister. There was a narrowed focus light in his eyes with his mouth turned downward. He wasn't going to let this go.

"Let me get my coffee first." She relented with a heavy sigh. Then with a coffee to warm her hands, she pulled him into a corner. Then she started with her father and his bad heart. From there she moved to his personality disorder and Dr. Charles treating him for it. Everything else that came with Dr. Robert Haywood and the fallout after just came out from there. When she was done explaining everything, Sarah lifted her gaze to look at her half-sister's husband.

"I know Nic's gone, but when everything was happening, I picked up the phone so many times to call her because she would know what to say and what to do." She told him, with a watery catch in her voice.

"Why didn't you call me?" Conrad asked quietly, "Why didn't you let me help you?"

"What could you have done, Conrad? You have Gigi and you just started back at Chastain. You have a lot on your plate. You didn't need me to add to it with my family drama."

"Sarah, you're Nic's little sister. You're Gigi's aunt. You're my family. As for what I would've done, I would've suggested you come home." Conrad pressed, tapping on the table for emphasis.

"To New York? With my mother?" Sarah pulled a face, before she shook her head, "No, thank you."

"Not New York. Georgia."

"Georgia? Why would I go there?"

"Because you'd have family-me and Gigi and a job there."

"A job?"

"At Chastain. One phone call from me and you'd have an interview in no time; you know how much Nic always hated that you moved to Chicago to finish med school."

“HOW IN THE HELL DID YOU GET FRONT ROW TICKETS TO Y/N L/N?”

devon turned to conrad as the group of doctors walked towards the front, with barricade right in front of them. with a small grin spread across his face, conrad shrugged, “know somebody.”

“you’ve gotta know more than just ‘somebody’.”nic told him as they waited for the show to start before mina spoke up, “these seats went for $500 resale.”

the three turned to the surgeon, all with a surprised look on their faces, causing mina to shrug, “i like her music too.”

it was about an hour or so before the show began after the opening act, and as soon as y/n came out, her eyes locked with conrads, causing a big smile to spread across her lips. every single time she was in the middle of the stage, her eyes never left his, making damn sure of it too.

about halfway through the setlist, she heard the band start up the slow intro to the next song, and sent conrad a wink, before walking back up to the microphone, keeping contact, “you make me nervous,”

“put my reservations out of service, making me feel like every secrets worth it, its working.”she sang, and saw a small smirk fall back onto conrad's lips, knowing exactly what this song was about, “tryina hide my desire below the service.”

the two kept eye contact for a few moments, before y/n broke it, and looked over at her bandmate, “you make me wonder, how this part of me went undiscovered.”

“taking my heart out of its zone of comfort, like summer,”y/n continued, looking back over at conrad and his friends, “by the time its gone, you want another.”

taking the microphone off of the stand, y/n walked towards the front of the stage, right in front of conrad, pointing at him subtly, “you make me out of control, out of our clothes,”

“motion in slow, yeah,”she continued as conrad watched her walk around the stage, putting on one of the best performances he had seen, “you take me, you take me in my feelings,”

“through the ceiling, leaving my inhibitions exposed,”y/n walked back over to the mic stand hooking it back up, “you make me nervous.”

“every little move you make, you make on purpose.”she pointed at him again, before raising her arm, “tracing my body like you’re learning cursive, researching.”

“just how high of a touch can take a person.”

y/n jumped right back into the chorus, before dancing around the stage, and finishing up the bridge. slowly making her way off the stage, the star made her way over to conrad, with a big grin on her face.

“you make me nervous.”

“put my reservations out of service,”y/n sang, seeing all the shocked faces around her, joining in with the screams, “tryina hide my desire below the surface,”

standing on the barricade, conrad gripped her sides, keeping her steady as she towered over him, both with big grins spread across their faces, knowing she had just revealed their little secret.

The Resident will be greatly missed.

This was one of the few remaining network shows I kept up with. I'm biased, but it's honestly one of the best medical dramas out there.

When it first aired, I remember thinking, "Wow, this is different." Then I kept watching, and I just fell in love with all these characters and their stories. Episode after episode I got sucked into these very relatable stories and medical cases of the week. Till today, the episode that still gets me every time is S02ep20 (episode title: If Not Now, When?). That episode was personal for me. That was when the show became more to me.

That's what the show is about at the heart. It's relatable, it's current but still very high stakes. I always rooted for Conrad to diagnose his patients on time before it was too late, and it hurt when he couldn't. which I appreciated because as much as this is a fictional show where we want everything to have a happy ending, these characters are human and there is only so much one can do. Whether it was an undiagnosed patient for Conrad, or a bad surgical outcome for the ever brilliant Dr. Austin AKA the Raptor, we got to see the human in these characters.

We got to see these characters grow and enter into different life stages. We saw the good, the bad, and the ugly. I will never stop giving credit to the character development of Bell. I would never have thought that this character whom I loathed so much in the beginning became one of my most loved. And even after some main characters left, they still found a way to balance the show without disrespecting anyone.

I truly love the show, and even though I'm sad it's ended, I'm even more grateful it ended on a good note for all of the characters and not on a cliffhanger. I would have loved that the show got a final season as opposed to a cancelation, but the characters got closure in the end. At least I'm not in some limbo thinking about how these characters' stories should end.

Our main couples, Kit/Bell, Billie/Conrad, and Leela/Devon, all got their end game. And even though there was nothing explicitly said, you can actually picture what their future would be like, both in their personal lives and their professional lives.

Even though most of us saw this cancelation coming, it doesn't negate feelings of sadness or disappointment. Whatever the case, I'm glad that the show had a good run. With six seasons, they also got to their 100 episode mark. Not many shows nowadays can boast of that.

So cheers to The Resident ❤️
