Do you know anybody who is ambidextrous?
Yeah, my dad. And I used to be as well, until I lost the power in my left hand.

Not in particular.

Cello.
Do you overthink a lot of things?
All the fucking time.
Is there anybody you miss but can’t see again?
Yeah, I think J. And M.
When was the last time you had a hangover?
Long time ago. I don’t drink anymore.

Helping The others Realize The Advantages Of karaoke
, Hey, you need to do raise some fantastic details! We are going to consider your suggestions under consideration and may keep on to work hard to carry you a better knowledge!

As an alternative to being forced to have about many CD-Gs or laserdiscs, KJs[who?] can "rip" their complete libraries on to their challenging drives and Participate in the tracks and lyrics from the computer. I love how you can communicate with individuals that have precisely the same curiosity in singing! This app is absolutely good but the sole challenge is the restrictions for the none V.I.P customers. I get that they have to generate profits in some way but the opposite limitations such as not being able to start off your individual duets or solos were being Operating just fine. Regarding the term proofs, I also feel iffy about it. I think for the newer fans it's their way of figuring out whether H&L are together or if all the stuff they're seeing is just coincidences/ obviously an iphone conspiracy. Then you have those fans (twitter and even YouTube recently) who just need constant reassurance that they're still together. Because if they don't see any new 'proofs' they assume they broke up or are actually with the beard they're currently stunting with (lol). And then on tik tok there's a lot of people who do see it as some kind of game, they try to accumulate 'proofs' and I feel like it's often because they want to argue with antis.... But like why? And they're constantly having 'weak larry moments'. Oh and don't get me started how they take things that actually happened but remove the context to make it look like it was a 'proof' when in fact it wasn't, just to get their video to go viral. And when people point out their 'mistake' in the comments they just ignore it.
I'm not trying to shit on anyone who does anything of the above expect the last one lol <3 I just think that looking at things from that way (if x happens y amount of times then they're together) is like disregarding the fact that they're human beings who are in a real relationship where they have to make difficult decisions regarding their music, personal and public life due to the homophobic and capitalist industry.
But in my opinion the way that you and tumblr in general approach it is much more open minded and grounded in facts, context, and the broader harsh reality of the music industry. And supportive of H&L in general.
(I know you don't love the discourse so feel free to not post if you like ✨)
Tumblr media
yeeeeeeeeeeepyepyepyepyep
I could ramble on about this for way wayyy too long but you summed it up pretty well already.
.....Shit still did here's a cut
I think the way some uh larry resources are presented (youtube and all that) further enables that behavior, that looking for "proofs". And at first when you're brand new here I get it, you're looking for things that are going to convince you whether they're definitely or definitely not together, you wanna have clarity and 'proof' is a very clickbaity worthy word that's promising you you're gonna find what you're looking for. But it's not. Not to mention the only real "proof" would be them coming out so what are we even going on about. But ok let's consider "proof" a bit more loosely... none of the individual "proofs" are going to convince you they're together, not until you take that massive pile of debatable perfect middleground of plausible deniability did-they-or-didn't-they stuff, take a step back, and view that mountain for what it is, a mountain. A fookin massive amount of coincidences. And there's your pattern, there's your convincing factor. And if you can't see that you're gonna keep treading those insecure waters forever. You're gonna keep on having weak larry moments (there's a lot of twitter language in here lol) if you don't try to make it make sense why Harry/Louis are doing what they're doing. Why these "coincidences" keep on happening and why they make certain decisions. And we ~here on tumblr~ don't have the answers either but at least we're trying to make sense of it, trying to gather as much context as we (not everyone and we're not a cult lol, we're all individual people, but I mean in general the people I think in the same bubble and as compared to other platforms, plus while I don't wanna talk for others I also don't wanna keep saying i i i me me me lol) can, trying to view it from their (H&L's) perspective, trying to understand where they're coming from as multifaceted humans. And after a while you kinda.. start getting who they are and what they are and aren't capable of. Yeah of course we don't actually know these people but after 11 years of them (not) doing cetrain things? Sorry I think I got a bit of an idea and so far it's not been smacked in the face in any way whatsoever. So unless the prove me wrong I'm gonna keep assuming I'm """onto them""" (what a horrible way to put it asldkjasklj)
And yeah loads of people aren't looking for the truth, they're just looking for that rush you get from seeing your fake internet points rise and rise lol. I mean it's a good feeling to see your shits being seen but it's not worth it when the content is misleading? (not opening that can of worms of ~the internet~ and ~fake news~ in general askldjalsk) What bugs me isn't not necessarily the fact that people are using their relationship for hits on any platform because I do think they(H&L) want that, I mean to a certain extent, and beyond that it indirectly helps expose the fucked up system and homophobia and so on, what bugs me is when it's worded in such a way it's clearly a game to the poster, like "haha look at ME, iiiii cracked the code! hahahha I'm right and you anti you are wrong!". And I know there's a fine line (huehue) between what I'm doing here with yelling with memes whenever they're being gayvinci coding lil shits and that but there is. Context is key. Considering why is key, I'm meeting their chaotic messy energy with my own to cope because I think they're doing the same and want us to pick up on these things. I don't need to be right, hell I don't even want to be right because what I think is the raw truth is devastating. It's not a game, it's relentless closeting and a fucked up society. And their dorky lil shit behavior wouldn't be here the way it is if that wasn't the case. And it's important to acknowledge that. And I think here on tumblr we do that. But in the middle of that I also think they're in some kinda neverending bluegreener daring contest (who is winning???) and totally are insane lil shits that totally gain loads of energy from being like this in the middle of all that AND want us to point it out and I love that for them lol.
Idk how but managed to ramble again still. I'm just gonna post this idk where the it went asasdkjalskj that's enough there. Ahwell. Oops.

in your bruce springsteen post what did you mean by this? "I hate The Rising and basically everything he did afterward and consider it an artistic suicide/thematic perversion of his career"
Oh uh, basically that Springsteen went from making genuinely insightful - if not terribly sophisticated - left wing music to making trite, liberal music. People tend to talk about his music being "about" the working class as a truism w/o really understanding what that means (because we don't understand class politics in north america at *all*, lol). The thematic thrust of his classic albums is that the economic and social immiseration of the working class leads to a restless confusion and anger which manifests as external violence to cope with the internal sense of desolation and worthlessness. His music is about anomie and the results of capitalist alienation; albums like Nebraska and The Ghost of Tom Joad are apocalyptic *because* de-industrialization literally *felt* like the apocalypse to the communities it affected, and the tenor and stories told on those albums admits that people do not react nobly or rationally to the apocalypse. The destruction of communities turns people against each other and makes them long for either oblivion, or a fiery purge. A lot of American "left wing" music is from the POV of the educated counter-culture dissident, y'know, it's all like: "oooh, when will all the ignorant people SEE that we should be HOLDING HANDS IN PEACE like ME AND MY ENLIGHTENED WEED SMOKING FRIENDS". Springsteen's music is like: "people cannot see because the structures under which they live brutalize them into being deaf, blind, and dumb".
I mentioned that none of this was terribly sophisticated, but I think that lack of sophistication is what makes it so valuable - because he came up with all this shit just by thinking very hard about why the people he grew up around acted the way they did, and also by having the humility to realize that he was lucky to have had his interest in music nurtured so that he could "get out". The "character" he plays on Darkness on the Edge of Town is just the version of Springsteen who didn't have that opportunity, and so would probably be a MAGA guy right now.
The Rising, on the other hand, is an album very self consciously designed to meet the expectations of his aging, boomer audience, and to give them solace during a difficult time. His music these days is about and for the people who are still very smug about happening to fall on the correct side of the middle class culture war. It doesn't have any materialist insight at all, it's extremely moralistic (in that it treats morals as a natural phenomenon, rather than something shaped by material circumstances). To simplify this: his old music explains without judgement why his hometown voted for Donald Trump, while his new music is made to soothe the anxieties of people who make shallow "Orange Man Bad" posts every day. The reason I don't think he "believes it" is b/c during the lead up to the 2016 election he gave a couple interviews where he was like "Trump's gonna win and the Democrats are as much to blame as the Republicans for abandoning the working class & doing nothing to stop the social decay in the rust belt", which is the correct analysis. And yet now he's hanging out with Obama and co., extremely depressing and frustrating stuff.
It's not shocking this happened to him, however; part of it is a natural result of him getting richer and older, but also if you've read as much Springsteen analysis and discourse as I have (ie: all of it that currently exists pretty much lmao), you'll notice that there is a BREATH-TAKING level of cynicism directed at the subject matter of his old music, even in work that acknowledges that it's musically & lyrically good. A lot of slamming him for not being erudite or "smart" enough in his expression of class politics, that it's "cheesy", "manipulative" or "exploitative" to write songs about how good it feels to get off work for the weekend, nitpicking his "right" to even express these themes bc he grew up "normal" (ie: paycheque to paycheque) poor instead of in a one-room dirt floor shack in Appalachia or whatever. There's been a slow but concentrated purge of working class artists and themes from western pop culture over the last 30 years (think of how common it used to be to see movies/tv shows set in dingy apartments or crowded houses back in the even the 90s vs. now). Springsteen's capitulation to this is one of the biggest nails in the coffin, and acting like there's any thematic continuity b/t pre-2000 and post-2000 Springsteen cheapens everything that came before imo.

Which members do you think are in a relationship? And why? Also do you think they’re dating celebs or regular people? (if you care to explain).
I usually don’t answer questions like this, but figured why not….please remember: BTS’s personal lives and relationships are none of our business. Any discourse on things they haven’t publicly disclosed / verified themselves should be taken with a grain of salt.
The following thoughts are purely speculative opinions of mine:
Members who are generally less busy outside the group, I often wonder how they spend their time. I mean the ones who usually don’t have deadlines to meet for comebacks (song submissions) or historically have the least solo activities outside the group. Considering their already busy schedule, if you take into account some members put in more time than others, this gives you a decent idea.
I think the only members who are currently single are Namjoon and Hoseok. I know people make the joke of Namjoon being married with kids, but the reason he (and the company) let it carry on for so long is probably to cover up the fact that some of the other members are actually dating lol. So Namjoon’s acting like the scapegoat. I think Namjoon’s the type to date someone normal. As is, he doesn’t appear to have that many celeb friends and the people in his life are all either work related and share common interest outside of music. Hoseok seems really busy. Arguably, he’s one of the most private members, but I can never shake the feeling that he’s not the type to hide his relationship. This is why I think he’d date someone famous who can handle the spotlight. Of course, he wouldn’t announce a fling, but I think if he was in something long term he’d want the world to know (lol). Then again, he’s also very conscious of how crazy the fandom is, so he seems like someone who plays his cards right and avoids mixing work with pleasure: career focus now, relationship focus later (when all the BTS craze dies down).
I’ve said previously I think all of Maknae line are dating/seeing someone. The only ML member I can see dating someone who isn’t famous is JK. I think Taehyung and Jimin are more inclined to date other celebs/people in the public eye. I feel like Yoongi is inclined to date someone in the industry (someone who understands his work and the rigorous schedule of being an idol, or at the very least making music). I say this because he comes across as a very practical person who’s relationships have to offer some form of synchronous utility with all other areas of his life. I can see Jin dating someone normal/non-famous. There was a period where I was certain he’s in a relationship, but these days I can’t tell as much.

omg!! please please please do gasoline with race!!
Ahhhhhh! Sorry, this took so long! I wrote this like three or four times and I’m still not 100% happy with it lol. I did some research and it turns out the song is actually about Halsey’s struggles with mental health while being in the spotlight so I used that but don’t worry! This has a happy ending!

Are you insane like me?
He was pretty sure every kid at some point had wanted to be famous and here he was. Gone from causal dancing to acting and singing, all thanks to a small show that had been secretly visited by a talent scout. Multiple doors had opened for the young teen but with the fame came extreme expectations and with those expectations came extreme stress.
Everything seemed to be dictated by his manager, one William Snyder. As grateful as he was for the jobs Snyder had landed him, he was driving Race insane. Every single little thing was scrutinised, from the things he ate and drank, to even his hairstyle when he went out. His smile had to be perfect every time to 'keep up his image' but it got tired having to look perfect all the time.
Don't get him wrong, he adored his fans but at the same time, he wished he could go out without being stopped every five minutes for photos and videos, being made to repeat lines constantly.
Been in pain like me?
Every day left him exhausted, even if he had only been shopping. Everything had to be perfect to make sure he avoided any bad publicity. He was still young so why ruin his career so early?
Sighing, Race stared at his schedule. Countless practises for both dances and an upcoming audition filled every day, leaving him with almost no time for himself. He had only a few hours after evening practice and he knew he'd spend most of that sleeping.
He could already feel the pain that would come with everything. Today's practise had already wiped him out, body flowing with pain. After being scouted, Race had discovered muscles he didn't know existed thanks to the pain that came with the job.
However, he could deal with the physical pain but the mental pain? Not so much. He knew the others were getting worried about him but it didn't stop him from following all of Snyder's strict rules...Even if it caused him to throw up some mornings and night before practice.
Bought a hundred dollar bottle of champagne like me? Just to pour that motherfucker down the drain like me?
Well, he followed most of the rules but Race liked to have fun, even if that meant drinking some nights, whether it be cheap beer or expensive champagne, he'd take it, only to pour whatever remained down the drain the next morning in shame before scrubbing his teeth to get rid of any hint of the alcohol that was forbidden.
That's what he was currently doing, letting the taste of his toothpaste take over the taste of morning breath and expensive champagne. Rising the toothbrush, he chuckled softly as he licked his lips, savouring the artifical taste of bubblegum. Despite the event happening over a week ago, Race could still see Jack's face when he walked out of the bathroom carrying it. He knew he wasn't a kid but that wouldn't stop him from buying the 'kiddie' toothpaste, no matter how 'disappointed' it made his older brother.
Would you use your water bill to dry the stain like me?
Walking out to the kitchen, he noticed the damp paper resting on the table, causing him to shake his head. He had spilt a little of his drink on the table and mopped it up with the closest thing which appeared to be the bill he opened last night.
Not that it mattered, he could still read it which meant he'd be able to know who to pay. That and he had read it last night and despite getting drunk, his sharp mind still remembered every word.
He would concern himself with that later, instead focusing on making his breakfast smoothie before rushing out that door, hoodie pulled over his head to hide his face in the short run down his driveway. Sure, no one was around but that didn't mean he wasn't paranoid about being spotted. He already had to deal with stalkers and so far, none of them had found his house and he'd like to keep it that way thank you very much.
Softly singing along to the radio, he grinned to himself as set off, heading towards the dance studio. Sure, Snyder was going to be there to see his progress which meant he'd have to work harder. At least Romeo and Tommy always gave him good criticism instead of berating him when they taught him a new move. Even in Tommy Boy would jokingly kick his feet into the right position while telling him to keep up. Out of everyone he had been taught by, the two were his favourite. Tommy would teach him the dances while Romeo took care of the acting and like almost everyone, they thought Race should get rid of the man.
Are you high enough without the Mary Jane like me?
Shaking the thought out of his head, he pulled into the car park, flipping his hood back up before speedwalking inside.
It was only when he got inside the studio that he relaxed, something that always happened. Sure, most of the time sometimes he'd walk out and there would be a small crowd outside the building which he found awkward considering he was still all sweaty and smelly. There was only so much a towel and deodorant could do until he had access to a shower. Sure, the dance studio had showers but honestly, Race didn't like them. He also felt awkward showering in a building where his fans might find a way to sneak in. He might love his body but he didn't feel like having nudes of him spread across the internet where anyone could access it.
"Damn, look who finally showed up."
"I'm late by one minute Tommy Boy. Traffic was horrible."
"Whatever, warm-up you dork." The Australian chuckled, scrolling through the playlist, trying to decide which routine to have his friend start with. Subtly, he clenched his jaw as another presence filled the room. He really didn't like when Snyder was in the studio but unfortunately, he had no say. He knew the man liked to see that his client was actually making progress. Sure, some of his dancers would have their manager show up occasionally but Snyder came twice a month to take notes on Race before taking the teen to the side to lecture him, almost like he was trying to undermine everything he had been taught. He really hated him in all honestly but hey. He couldn't fire him, only Race could and considering the number of gigs Snyder had landed him, he doubted he'd be let go anytime soon.
Race shook out his limbs after stretching, pretending that he didn't sense the tension between his manager and instructor. If he ignored them, he could actually focus properly. He had learnt during the first few sessions that Snyder had sat in, that if he let the tension distract him, he'd slip up and get a long lecture about how he had to 'focus more if he wanted to nail a role'. So, he just pretended to be alone, letting the music flow through him. As cheesy as it sounded, Race liked to pretend that he was one with the sound. The noise was his dance partner, the leader of the pair. He followed its gentle coaxing willingly, allowing it to control every step.
It gave him a high that nothing could replicate, no matter how hard he had tried in the past. Dancing gave him something that he couldn't explain. Something that couldn't be described. He was addicted to it.
He allowed himself to come to a stop, his partner leaving him with a gentle caress and smile. Race grinned at himself in the mirror, slowly coming down from his high, allowing himself to relax, calmly walking over to his duffle bag, yanking his towel out before wiping his face off. As much as he loved dancing, he didn't like the sweat that came with it.
Do you tear yourself apart to entertain like me?
Tommy's compliments were cut off by the clearing of someone's throat and the two turned to look at Snyder who was lounging in a chair in the corner. "Your turns were sloppy Higgins. You fell out of a few turns, your feet weren't pointed during one of your jumps and your arms looked strange. You need to work on those."
"With all due respect sir, I believe he did quite well."
"Clearly you weren't paying close enough attention to your student Manchester. We all know he can do better. If he nails this video, even more doors will open for him and surely you want that for him."
"I do but."
"Then you'll allow me to critique my client. I want what's best for him after all."
Race sighed. "I'll work harder. It's okay." Sure, he knew he was overworked as it was, but he could always try harder. There was always room for improvement after all.
Tommy just shook his head, knowing what Snyder wanted was a fat paycheck. Race wanted to please everyone and that included Snyder, even if the man pushed him past the point of breaking. Once discovering that Race had an empty basement, Snyder had pushed him into turning it into a mini studio for extra practice and would often visit to watch and offer more 'corrections' when really, he spent most of the time on his phone, only sparing glances up at the mirrors, pushing the teen to almost the point of collapse before lecturing him at the way he had become so wobbly. He didn't care that the boy was tearing himself apart in hopes of earning the praise he had been craving all his life. Race lived to entertain people and so far, he had failed to fully impress Snyder.
Do the people whisper 'bout you on the train like me?
Buttons sighed as he listened to the faint sound of music, vibrating through the wooden floor. He was there to do final adjustments to Race's costume for the video tomorrow and wasn't surprised that he'd be found in the makeshift studio. Whispers floated around not only Race's friends but some of Buttons' friends in the clothing industry. Race seemed ready to fall apart and it was a waste of talent. He was being pushed too far and from Buttons had learnt, had recently been pushed into modelling as well, taking up even more of his time, leaving him more exhausted than normal.
Saying that you shouldn't waste your pretty face like me? And all the people say...
Shaking his head, Buttons headed down steps, rapping on the door to inform the other of his presence, watching as he stumbled slightly. Race had been sucked into the whirlwind of fame, dragged into an uncaring industry, one deadset on farming out copies and copies, ones that would give them the cash they craved.
It destroyed every member they took in, ruining their minds and bodies until they were dumped, left to eventually fade away, replaced with a newer shiny version. As famous as someone was, it was surprisingly hard to be remembered. Making something that everyone remembered for years to come might be somewhat easy, but having your name in everyone's mind for years? That was much harder.
Fame was a dream for a lot of people but that dream would turn into a nightmare quickly.
You can't wake up, this is not a dream, you're part of a machine, you are not a human being.
Buttons loved seeing his work in videos but looking at the way his crafts looked on Race's skinny shaking body made him feel sick.
"Really. You need to take better care of yourself."
"Gotta look my best Buttons." Race just grinned, brushing off the concerns like normal.
"Tony seriously. Everyone's telling you the same thing. You need to eat more." The tailor shook his head, scanning the other's body to spot anything off with it. "You always look ready to collapse and you're shaking!"
"Buttons...I'm just following what's set out for me."
"Don't you think it's going a bit far?"
"Nah. It's fine. After all, it could be worse." Race just shrugged, holding his arms up when prompted.
With your face all made up, living on a screen.
While talking to Buttons was always fun, Race was relieved to see him leave. Whenever he spoke to someone alone, they always told him to drop his manager. That he looked like he was five seconds away from being rushed to the nearest hospital.
It didn't help that Snyder had become stricter later, criticizing his body and form more than normal, not caring that he was breaking his spirit. He was one of many, easily replaceable in the mind of the industry, something that Snyder liked to remind his client of constantly, claiming that it was 'in his best interest that he followed everything to the letter', forcing him to practise harder whenever he strayed from the harsh guidelines he set out.
Low on self-esteem, so you run on gasoline.
Requesting time off just brought another lecture. Hell, Race had to beg and fight to be allowed to take his birthday off and out of everything the man had done, that's what pissed Race's friends and family off the most. Jack had been close to demanding the man's address or phone number, only for Davey to stop him. It was no secret that Jack and Snyder had bad blood, disagreeing over what was best for the dancer/actor. Jack had known him all of his life while Snyder had only known him for roughly two years.
Race hated the relationship between his manager and older brother but did his best to never let it trouble him. He desired to be on his A-game at all times after all and any form of tension would throw him off, only causing him to work harder than any other day. Snyder constantly likened him to every other young celebrity out there, reminding him all the time that he was replaceable, that he had to work harder if he wanted to keep up with the industry. That he was...Already stumbling behind.
I think there's a flaw in my code.
The man acted like Race wasn't trying at all...That all the hours he put in meant nothing. That Race was acting like he 'didn't care about his job'. Like he was...Broken in some way and that strict behaviour just increased when he had handed him a slip of paper given to him by a professional. A diagnosis for depression, anxiety and bipolar disorder. He hadn't been super happy to find out that his client was mentally ill and that the paperwork even pointed out that he was overworked and just pushed him harder.
Voices pushed at him from both sides. Drop him some said. He's working you too hard others chimed in. You need to work harder if you want to succeed in the industry kid one kept saying and for some reason, he kept listening to the single voice, despite the fact he knew he wasn't meant to. He needed to drop him and he would, after this music video and movie audition though.
Well, my heart is gold and my hands are cold.
Race sighed, shaking his head. Focus Higgins. In a month, you can find someone new. Darcy, Bill and Kath can find you a new one. He stretched, smiling at himself in a mirror. He'd be okay, he could last a month.
He pretended Snyder's not so subtle jabs at his diagnosis. The man hadn't been pleased when he found out about Race's ADHD, clearly 'trying' to hide the way he felt about the whole thing. That he didn't think Race was 'unstable'. That he was 'broken'.
Are you deranged like me? Are you strange like me? Lighting matches just to swallow up the flame like me?
He growled in annoyance when he fell out of a turn again, glad he was alone. It wasn't his fault he was so stressed! He was being pulled at every end, each person claiming they just wanted the both for him. With his mental health 'issues' dumped on top of that, Race wanted to scream and tear his hair out. He hated this. Hated the worried looks from his friends and family. Hated the harsh tone from Snyder used when he was giving him 'constructive' criticism.
He wasn't at fault here! He was just trying hard so why did it seem like everyone was trying to pull him to their side? Sure, what he was doing wasn't the healthiest but he had to work hard to keep up with the fast pace workforce. Sure, he could stand to gain a few pounds but he could always do that later.
Do you call yourself a fucking hurricane like me? Pointing fingers 'cause you'll never take the blame like me?
"I'm just worried Race..."
"I know Jack. I know you hate Snyder, that he's an asshole, that you think he's ruining my life. But, without him, I wouldn't have gotten so many gigs."
"Tony, please. You need to drop him. You don't look healthy, you're never able to go out anymore, you're being worked to the bone." Jack frowned as he looked at his brother. "I get that you love your job but you need to take time for yourself as well."
"Look. I'm already planning to drop him after this audition...It's just a month Jack. Please. Give me that and I'll drop him."
"Promise? I'm sick of his bullshit Tony..."
"I promise."
And all the people say, you can't wake up, this is not a dream.
"Again."
Race nodded, restarting the music before throwing himself into the dance again.
"You're distracted, Higgins."
"Sorry, sir. Just got a lot on my mind lately..."
"You need to focus. If you don't you'll fall behind and fail. Restart."
You're part of a machine, you are not a human being. With your face all made up, living on a screen.
Race honestly wasn't sure if Snyder even knew what he was talking about when it came to his dancing but still, he took his words to heart, letting them crash through his weak walls again as he started the dance yet again, letting the music wrap itself around him, allowing it to bring him both a familiar rush and familiar comfort.
The comfort that came with the music was his favourite kind of comfort. He never had to seak it out. Never had to send a text or make a call. All he had to do was press a button and it was there, ready to hug him and bring him a calm distraction from whatever was bothering him, sometimes wiping away any tears that would run down his cheeks, drawing a watery smile from him.
Low on self-esteem, so you run on gasoline.
"What the fuck do you mean you're firing me? I'm the one who got you this damn role! You would be a nobody without me Higgins and you know that!"
Race looked at the man's angry face. "Leave my house, Snyder. We're done here. While I am thankful for the work you have done, I need to focus on what I feel is right for me and I believe what is right is us parting ways."
"You're making a big mistake Higgins. I can ruin your damn life! I got you that role and I can fucking take it away from you! You'll regret this! I'll fucking leak your damn address!"
I think there's a flaw in my code.
"You can not ruin my life, Snyder. You even try and I'll make sure everyone knows what you've been doing. I'll let everyone know how hard you've pushed me. How you've forced me to dance right after throwing up. Believe me, Snyder. I can and will let them know. I've dealt with this for too long."
These voices won't leave me alone.
"You've let those people poison you! They know nothing!"
"Romeo and Tommy have been working in this industry for years. Longer than you have and I trust their judgement."
"I'll get their places shut down!"
"Keep talking Snyder...You're just digging yourself a bigger hole."
"The fuck are you talking about?"
Race smirked, holding up his phone. "I've looked up the laws. We have a one-party consent law here meaning I can record this conversation without your permission and that's what I have done. I recommend you leave now."
Snyder scoffed, storming out. "You'll regret this!"
"And you'll regret being so strict! Goodbye William~"
Well, my heart is gold and my hands are cold.

PARENTHOOD INTERVIEW: Disney.
Tumblr media
10 QUESTIONS NOT LINKED TO YOUR KID(S).
what is your current career now? “I guess you’d call it executive, but that’s boring. I’m in the entertainment industry - music and film.
are you enjoying it? “Sure.”
where do you currently live? “New York, and then France throughout the summers.”
are you married? “I am.”
what is one thing that’s stayed the same with you since st judes? “I still don’t have the patience for most people.”
what’s the biggest change you’ve experienced? “I’ve aged, let’s not talk about it.”
now that you’re older and have had a successful career, what’s your biggest goal in life? “I don’t like this question. I think my whole life has been a goal. I’ve never had specific ones, I just know what I’m working towards. I don’t understand people who just stop and decide they’ve reached a final destination. Surely that’s the equivalent to dying?”
would you still consider yourself famous? “Yes.”
what was the first thing you did after your graduation? “We moved to New York because my Dad opened the labels second branch there, and I oversaw it. It’s also where I wanted to be for years. I didn’t want the girls permanently living in the Springs.”
do you have any regrets about your time in st judes? “No, I did well. I was probably too nice at times.” /LOL
QUESTIONS ABOUT PARENTHOOD.
who are your children? list them in age order. “Good question...Kidding. Fleur, Dixie and then Pippa.”
if you gave birth, who was the easiest pregnancy? if you didn’t, which pregnancy did you feel most anxious about. “Being pregnant with Pippa exhausted me. I don’t know why. Technically the twins should’ve been harder, but there you go.”
did you have any baby showers or gender reveals? if yes, what did you do? “I did. Just a party. Not gender reveals though, I feel like very specific families do those and...yeah.”
what kind of parent would your children describe you as, do you think? “Insane. They’ve said it to my face.”
which stage was hardest: baby, toddler, child, teenager or young adult? “All of it from being toddlers, up. I feel like they’re babies, they’re so cute, it’s so exciting and then they hit about three and it’s like...well, shit, they’re still here.”
what has been your favourite memory with each child? “Stereotypical things; the birthday parties, Christmases...I think my favourite Christmas was the one where we set up a grotto in our house and they had all of their cousins and close friends over. That was magical.”
be honest, do you think you’ve had any failings as a parent? “No. I’ve made mistakes, sure, but I haven’t failed them.”
what do you think you do well as a parent? “Honesty. I feel like too many parents try to sugarcoat things for their kids. People used to criticise me for how harsh I was on the twins with things like school and who they hung out with, but at the end of the day, all three of them are successful and have the world at their fingertips now. They understand what it means to work hard and they know how to say no to people or spot “friends” who aren’t actually friends.”
how much involvement do your own parents have in your child’s life? “A lot.”
as a parent, what is something you’re still learning? “It’s normal for children to want to follow trends and if they want to ignore me and wear something hideous, that’s on them. I still look great.”
what’s the funniest memory from parenthood so far? “We’ve had so many. I think people have this idea that our family and household walk around in designer clothes, everything is immaculate and we act like we’re one of the Bridgerton families, but it’s not the case. The girls are hilarious - especially Pippa - and we have enough inside jokes to keep me going into old age.”
when do you feel like you were needed the most? “The baby years, obviously.”
JUST FOR FUN, WHICH CHILD… if you have just one child, you can just say if they’d do the stuff or not.
which child is the most sensible? “Fleur.”
which child is the most independent? “That’s tricky because I don’t want to contradict myself in implying that two of them aren’t independent. They all are...I’m going to say Dixie, though. I think she’s the one most likely to get up and do something for herself without even consulting Brody and I.”
which child did you always have suspicions about being famous one day? “Pippa. That girl’s mind and imagination is something else.”
which child was the hardest work as a child? “Pippa. Dixie and Fleur were very similar and she was like the little sister who just came ball dozing in and shook up what all of us were used to. Good for her, it was needed.”
which child have you cried/stressed over the most? “Gross. None of them.”
which child has the tidiest room? “Dixie.”
which child do you think likes you the most? “Fleur.”
which child is most likely to forget your birthday? “Pippa.”
which child is/was the most academic? “Dixie.”
which child is/was the most athletic? “Fleur and Pippa were both pretty sporty.”
which child tends to be the most annoying? “All three. Fleur is a perfectionist and very precise. She can’t let things go until they’re just so...which is a little like me, I suppose. Dixie’s the whiner. She will wear you down until she gets exactly what she wants and Pippa’s the loud one. She has so much energy and just never stops.”
which child asks for money the most? “That’s a tie.”
which child is most likely to move in back home? “Probably Fleur.”
which child helps out around the house the most? “Dixie...barely....but it’s more than the other two do.”
which child enjoyed disney the most growing up? “They all liked it but none were obsessed.”
BEING AN ACADEMY PARENT.
did you have a say in the academy(s) your child(ren) picked? “Yes and no. I advised them on which ones to go to and which I personally think are a waste of time and for the most part, they listened.”
how did you feel when your child decided they wanted to go to an academy? “Fine. I saw it coming.”
do any of your children study the same as what you did? are they less, equally or more successful than what you were? “None of them act or have anything to do with movies.”
when your child(ren) were younger, what did you THINK they’d end up working as? “I never really thought about it. I was too busy focusing on them in the present and preparing them for what they needed at the time. I still don’t think about it, but then I suppose we’ve always had the luxury of not having to worry about them being financially stable or anything like that.”
have you met any of your child’s friends or partners? “I’ve met a lot of friends.”
what’s your biggest worry about your children being in an academy? “There isn’t one.”
what’s the one piece of advice you’d give your child as they start this journey that you wished you had? “You’re not overrated, they’re just threatened. And for good reason.”
MEMORY LANE.
what tv programmes/films were on repeat as your children were growing up? “I could not get rid of Peppa Pig. That bitch finds her way into every household, I think. I thought the twins would bully Pippa, because her name is so close, and they did but in a shocking twist of events, Pippa embraced it and started acting like her which was awful because that pig is a brat. But, she’d full on snort when she was trying to make a point or copy her laugh and snort afterwards on purpose. I think that’s the closest I’ve ever been to having a parental meltdown.”
have you ever lost your child/had something happen that’s made you panic? "Pippa again, shocker. We never lost her but she once got her head stuck in a hotel stairwells banister. Don’t ask me how.”
what was the first holiday you went on as a whole family? “We didn’t travel for a while after Pippa was born. I’m so against going to places with newborns. It’s just pointless. Travelling for work is pointless, but the parents who drag their tiny kids to Disneyland or sit on scorching beaches with them are insane. For her fourth birthday, we went to Disneyland Florida, though.”
can you remember a time you’ve ever been called to the principals office? “Many times, mainly for Dixie and Pippa.”
say one thing about your child that you think they’d like to hear, but wouldn’t expect you to say. “You’ve done way more than enough to make me proud. For sure.”

What were your favorite things to draw when you were a lil kid?  I knew I wasn’t an artist the moment I started experimenting with pens and markers, and the only image I liked to keep - and was capable of - drawing on repeat was your usual kid’s portrait of a house with a sun and clouds lmao. I never learned how to draw anything else.
Do you think there is something with or around you, like a spirit, angel, ghost or something else? How does this make you feel?  No, never.
Imagine you’re a stranger looking at yourself. What things would immediately catch your eye?  Probably the way I’m scowling at stranger-me staring at me-me.
When did you feel the most confident in your life? Not sure when I’ve felt the most confident, but I typically feel so whenever I get something I’ve been desiring and working hard for, like getting a job offer or being accepted to my dream college or passing a really difficult exam.
Do you think love is needed to have good sex? For some people, no. For me, loving one another is an absolute must. < Yes, hits the nail on the head for me.
Do you think, or want to, die in the city you currently live in? I don’t think it would matter where I die, as long as it’s not from a terrible freak accident.
What is the strangest thing you have ever encountered?  That time I went to Singapore and a sex toy shop was casually blatantly standing in the middle of Orchard Road for families to stroll pass. It’s not objectively strange, of course, but it was definitely a big culture shock. Putting up sex shops in the Philippines is basically a game of who can find the best spot to hide them in.
Favourite soft drink? I never drink soda, so I don’t have a favorite.
What do you like to put gravy on? Fried chicken or steak.
Have you ever gone canoeing/kayaking?  Yes, in Palawan.
What is one thing you know about your family history you’re proud of?  I come from a line of datus from both precolonial and colonial Philippines. The most exciting part about it is that it technically makes me a princess, or at least our local version of princesses haha. I’m also distantly related to one of the three women who sewed the first Philippine flag.
Who depends on you the most? Kimi and Cooper, surely.
Are you related to anyone famous or historical, if so who?  See two questions above. Coming from my datu ancestors, my relatives also continue to serve in the local government of our family’s province until today. Not that I’m particularly proud of them or show this off whenever I want because they are all very vocal Duterte supporters and regularly engage with him and his family, so *barf*
Would you ever donate a kidney to anyone, and who?  If it ever comes down to it, I’d offer one of mine to my dad, Angela, and either of her parents.
What is the main quality you think makes a great parent? They recognize when they’re wrong and know to acknowledge it and apologize.
What three things do you think of most of each day? Tasks I have to do for work for the day, tasks I have to do for the rest of the week, and financial concerns.
Does/did your high school have pop machines?  No, of course not. Are there schools that are ok with selling soda? :/
Do you know anyone who’s won the lottery?  Not that I know of, but then again these things are shared in secret so there’s always that chance of possibly knowing someone who won the lotto at some point.
Have you ever slept in a water bed? Never slept but I’ve played on one.
How often do you use Flickr?  I haven’t visited that site since I was like 11. Not even sure it still exists.
Who is the last child that you took a photo with?  I think my cousin Toffe, but it was most likely a family photo that the two of us happened to be in. I don’t have a lot of photos with my younger cousins and kids in general.
How often do you wear hats? Never. I always think about getting a bucket hat of my own but I just never go through with it.
Would you ever get a nature tattoo? I never even entertained the thought before. But considering Hayley’s albums and songs have like a million references to flowers, it sounds like a good idea now :)
Is anyone in your family sick at the moment?  My paternal great-grandma was recently confined in a hospital but she’s been discharged. I have a grand-aunt who suffered a mild stroke a couple of weeks ago and is currently recovering.
Where do your siblings work, if anywhere? They are both still studying. If I had to guess, my sister would probably end up in the film, media, or advertising industry, if not a freelance artist.
Where is your favorite place to buy groceries?  If I had the money for it I’d get my groceries at Marketplace, but I’m content with getting ours from SM or Robinsons for now.
Who do you generally talk to the most? Probably my immediate family and my team at work.
Is anyone saved in your phone under a nickname?  Not anymore. I use nicknames on my friends more frequently on Facebook Messenger.
Whose birthday is coming up?  One of my cousins’ birthday is on March 31.
Have you ever ordered from an informercial? No, never.
When, where, and why did a needle last pierce your skin?  Around a month ago when I was embroidering. I usually accidentally prick myself from time to time.
Have you been to an escape room? Was it a success?  Nah, not really my idea of fun. I’m a little weak at problem/riddle-solving :(
How many followers do you have on Instagram? I literally never use my Instagram except to lurk and look for influencers to potentially tap for work. The account was initially my one-photo-a-day-in-2020 dump, but I stopped in April last year and now we’re in 2021 it doesn’t even serve a purpose anymore lmao. But for some reason Bea asked for my account and still followed me (and is the only person following me), which I’m sure she already regrets.
What’s the most recent music video you watched? Thoughts?  Continued the next day. Jessi’s What Type of X. Killed it as always.
Have you ever recorded a cover of a song? Never.
What makeup products are your go-tos?  None.
Are you going to school this year?  No, not anymore. I did that for the very last time in 2020, and I don’t see the point in going back for an MA because I feel like I’m already covered.
What is your favorite water activity? I’ve only ever tried kayaking, but that was a very pleasant memory.
What are your favorite video games? I’m not a super passionate video game fan who’s always up-to-date, but I do have a soft spot for games I bonded on with my family when I was a kid, like Grand Theft Auto (very inappropriate for a kid to be playing, I know lol), Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Mario Kart, and Smash Bros.
Do you like jello? I never got over the texture, so no.
When was the last time you gave someone "the finger?" Not sure when exactly but it happened recently, maybe a week or two ago. I suddenly thought about my ex and flung both fingers around just for myself lol.
Have you ever held a snake?  Yes, I got the chance to hold and take a photo with one on my trip to Bali. I was the only willing one in the family.
Most unique place you’ve ever been to?  Baker’s Hill in Palawan is what I would imagine seeing if I ever took drugs and had a trip of some sort. Most random place ever.
If you were a superhero, what color would your cape be?  Continued from...I don’t even know anymore. Just know it’s been nearly a week since I first started this, lmao. Idk maybe gold.
Have you ever slept out on your porch all night?  We don’t have a porch. We do have a rooftop and I’ve fallen asleep there a couple of times. I only do so when the climate is cold, though.
Do you like horror movies?  Sure, but I haven’t watched any in years. Just have never been in the mood for it for a long while now.
What’s your favorite Coke product?  Blech, I hate soda.
Watergun or water-balloon war?  Water gun. I’ve never been hit by a water balloon but I imagine it hurts?? so I wouldn’t want to experience it if I never had to.
Do you know anyone that’s afraid of elevators?  I know my sister and grandma are claustrophobic but they’re not ~deathly~ afraid of elevators.
Is there anything in your room that belongs to a boyfriend, or a friend of the opposite sex?  I don’t think any of my guy friends have lent me stuff that I got to take home, so no.
Who’s your favorite Beatle?  I was never a fan. I remember pretending to be, back when liking The Beatles made you look all cool and hippy and trendy... but I honest to god just couldn’t get into their music.
Have you ever texted an ex whilst drunk? How’d that go?  Yeah just once, super super way back when I was still thought remaining friends with her was the way to go. It was fine, I didn’t message anything horrific and we were both chill about it the next morning.
Do you have to stand on your tip-toes to kiss your boyfriend?  I don’t have a partner anymore but yeah, I used to. I think? Maybe? I barely remember anymore. I definitely did have to tilt my head up quite a bit, though.
Have you ever been tackle-hugged? I can’t remember if I’ve received one. I’m usually the one who gives them.
Have you ever rejected someone’s kiss before?  I don’t think I’ve been in this situation before.
Is your mood or the overall tone of your day often affected by the dreams you had the night before?  Just for like the first half hour of waking up, especially if it was a nightmare or a triggering dream. The more I wake up the more the dream fades away, and the sillier it feels that I was affected by it.
Do you think that there are any positive aspects or outcomes of suffering from a mental illness? If you have a mental illness, do you think it has changed you for the better in any way?  No. Sugarcoating mental illness doesn’t sit well with me at all. I know I’ve learned to be gentle and understanding towards other people because of the emotional abuse I’ve received in my own relationships, and I absolutely hate that it’s because of mental illness. I shouldn’t have had to learn to be kind because I was treated shittily first.
What is your opinion on celebrity culture and celebrity worship? Have you ever been guilty of putting a celebrity on a pedestal? Do you think it’s somehow more acceptable/understandable to obsess over certain types of celebrities (musicians over YouTubers, say) than others? At what point do you think an obsession like that crosses the line?  I sometimes think it’s silly when fandoms fight and defend their favorites as if they know them personally, but I’m heavily into my fair share of celebrities and I honestly don’t see anything wrong with it. As long as you’re not hurting anyone or doing anything stupid like stalking your favorites, you do you.
If you were to pursue a career in photography and had the opportunity and means to photograph whatever you wanted, what would most like to photograph?  People.
Is there a certain type of clothing (outerwear, activewear, loungewear, etc.) that you enjoy shopping for more than others?  Cute tops.
Are you ever afraid to post your ideas, artwork, photography, etc. online for fear that they will get stolen or not credited?  No, because I am not even creative in the first place and can’t make any form of art to save my life.
When is the last time you did something sexual? Last night.
Who is the last person you showered with, if anyone?  My ex but that would’ve been ages ago. It was super rare that we absolutely had to shower together.
What do you think when you see roadkill on the side of the road?  Sad and kinda disgusted if the guts are out, but also relieved that they don’t have to suffer in pain anymore.
Have you ever had an ex that just didn’t understand that it was over?  Yeah, me. Luckily I came to my senses a few months ago and have felt better and been better ever since.
Are your fingernails currently short or long?  They’re unequal lengths because I’ve been either biting or picking at them over the last few weeks, but for the most part they are long enough to need to be clipped.
Would you rather have big or small dogs?  Big.
What is your favorite sports drink? I don’t drink any of them, so none.
What was the last compliment you gave a guy?  I told my dad the dinner he made tasted excellent.
Does your jaw ever crack, pop, or lock?  I don’t think my jaw has ever made a sound before, hahaha.
Have you ever thought of how you would give your kids “the talk”?  No, but I think it’s also relevant to note that I live in a very conservative country where sexual intercourse is never discussed, especially within families; and that it’s virtually unheard of to hear of people until my generation to have been given the talk. I had to find out all by myself, and I remember being very confused when we were being taught the reproductive system in fifth grade because they only taught about the organs and their functions, and never anything deeper than that.
Luckily the last conservative generation was Gen X, and younger generations have been a lot more open-minded. And if I had to guess, I’m fairly certain Millennial parents would be more willing to give their kids the talk.
Do you ever feel like you’re missing out on something?  I mean, my 20s, thanks to Covid.
Do you ever write/draw on windows that are fogged up?  Yes.
If you were married, and your spouse’s parents became ill, would you let them move into your home? Of course.
Have you screamed in a pillow before?  Probably.
What do you like more, acoustic or electric?  Electric.
Did you actually have a cookie jar?  No.
What’s worse, having someone mad or disappointed in you? Disappointment is more gut-wrenching. I feel more hopeless and helpless when someone feels that way about me.
What do you bite on more, your tongue, lip, or nails?  Definitely my nails. Lip-biting isn’t a habit of mine and I only ever bite my tongue accidentally.
Do you think that knowing when and how you’re going to die would ruin your life?  No. I would find that comforting, actually.
Do you have a favorite bromance? From TV or a movie.  J-Man and Channy’s from Friends.
Do you find flea markets and thrift stores enjoyable?  Sure.
What color is your wallet?  Pink, but I def have to buy a new one soon as I’m still using the one my ex gave me...
Have you ever been somebody's photography subject? No, and I would hate to be. I don’t like being in front of the camera.
Nicki Minaj fan?  I like a lot of songs by her but I’m by no means a fan.
Have you ever seen the Niagara Falls?  Nope but I would love to.

The last time you were in the fridge, what were you looking for? >> A beverage.
Do you like clowns? >> No.
Have you answered all of these questions honestly so far? >> There have only been two thus far, and I can't imagine lying on a survey question anyway.
What's the third text in your inbox? >> ---
Are you listening to anything at the moment? >> No.
Do you twitch when your falling asleep? >> Yeah, sometimes. Or I have that sudden falling feeling and jerk awake.
Are your dishes in the dishwasher clean or dirty? >> The dishwasher is either still running or finished running, so, either clean or about to be clean.
Are you at home or with friends more often? >> 98% of the time, I’m at home.
When is the last time you were on a bicycle? >> A year ago? At least? I don’t know. I tried to ride for a while but I’m too out of shape to enjoy it and it was discouraging. And by now, I’m worried it needs maintenance from having sat in the garage through a full cycle of seasons and I’m afraid to ride it.
What have you eaten today? >> A veggie burger and chips, a sandwich, and taco mac with Nuggs.
Would you date someone 15 years older than you? >> ---
Do you own a strapless bra? >> No.
Does the person you like know it? >> ---
Do you care if people hate you for no reason? >> I care in some circumstances, but not all.
Did anything brighten up your day today? >> I’m not sure. My day was pretty okay, though. To my pleasant surprise.
How are you feeling at this exact moment? >> Chill. A bit tired.
Are you someone who worries too often? >> I get anxious about things, but I’m not sure “worries too much” is applicable.
If you could date somebody who would it be? >> ---
Do you ever wonder how other people see you? >> Well, yeah.
What is one good thing you're known for? >> ---
How about one bad thing? >> ---
Are you taller than most? >> Most children, yeah. LOL

Are you the type of person who likes to be out or home? >> I like to be home.
What time do you normally go to bed? >> Between 10p and 12a.
What is one thing that is currently bothering you? >> My neck is still kind of sore, probably from sleeping wrong the other night or something. It’s getting better, but I also keep accidentally twinging it.

Do you consider yourself to be attractive? >> No.
What was the last thing that you drank? >> A shandy.
Is anything annoying you now? >> No.
Has anyone ever said i love you to you and not meant it? >> How would I know, unless they told me (and in my experience people generally do not tell)?
Do you regret going out with the last person you did? >> Eh. Not really. Like, it sucks and I hate that the trauma from those interactions is still haunting me and affecting my current relationships, but it is what it is.
Do you realize it when you curse? >> I mean, more or less.
When was the last time you showered? >> This morning.
Who did you last talk to in person? >> Sparrow.
Do you ever have days where you just don't do anything? >> No. Even when I’m deeply depressed I will move my hands to put on Netflix (and then click “yes” when it periodically asks if I’m still watching), lol. That’s something.
Have you ever been extremely tired but refused to go to sleep? >> Yeah.
What is your favorite episode of True Life, if you have one at all? >> ---
Have you ever experienced something paranormal? >> Maybe.
What's the longest amount of time you've been stuck in traffic? >> ---
Best field trip experience? >> ---
Have you ever been to New York City? >> I used to live there.
If so, is it all its cracked up to be? >> What’s it cracked up to be, exactly? People say a lot of things about NYC, not all of it positive. It also depends on, you know... your socioeconomic standing. Wealthy folks’ NYC is a completely different place from poor folks’ or homeless folks’ NYC, despite being on the same patch of land...
What is the most amount of money you've spent on a meal before? >> I have no idea.
What museums have you visited, if any? >> In NYC: MOMA, Museum of Natural History; in Philadelphia: Franklin Institute; in Chicago: Museum of Science & Industry, Adler Planetarium (it’s also an astronomy museum); in Michigan: Grand Rapids Art Museum, Grand Rapids Public Museum. Those are just the ones I remember, mind you. Might have been to a couple of others and just forgotten about them.
Have you ever had a group project and one of your partners bailed on you? >> Maybe when I was in school, idk.
What's your worst traveling experience? >> Probably every time I had to take a Greyhound from Colorado to NYC (or vice versa).
Sims 1, 2, or 3? Why? >> I’ve never played the first one. I like the vast amount of custom content resources for 2, the innovation of 3, and the continued innovation of 4. Otherwise, they’re mostly the same to me except the graphics just get smoother over the years.
Have you ever dealt with noisy neighbors or roommates? How did that go? >> Yes. Poorly, obviously, for me anyway.
Who was (or is) the teacher that gave you the hardest time in school? >> ---
Best muffin you've ever had? >> I don’t like muffins.
Have you ever taken a woodshop class? >> Once.
If so, was it required? >> No, it was an elective.
How much time do you spend on Facebook, if you have one? >> Hardly any. I just check it every few days or whatever, for messages mostly.
What area of math are you best at? Worst? >> I don’t know.
How do you feel when you meet someone with the same music taste as you? >> I don’t care if people like the same music as I do, as long as they’re not rude about genres they don’t care for. I like talking about music with people, but it always ends up being this “this genre is better than that genre” or “this era is better than that era” circle jerk and that’s so fucking boring.
What is the strangest thing you've ever seen outside of your house? >> *shrug*
Do you believe in luck? Why or why not? >> It can be a useful concept.
How often do you "half-ass" things (put little effort in)? >> Whenever I don’t have the energy to whole-ass something, but I don’t want to just not do anything at all.
Do you ever feel self-conscious when you eat around other people? >> No. I feel annoyed when I have to eat around other people, because then I have to hear other people eating.
Has a teacher ever made you hate yourself/your work? >> Probably.
How reliable is your internet connection? >> It’s quite reliable.
Have you ever missed a meeting/event that was required/necessary? >> Yeah.
What's something that makes you incredibly nervous? >> I can’t think of anything off the top of my head.
What's the latest you've ever stayed up to finish homework/a project? >> ---
If you don't have glasses, how would you feel if you had to get them? >> It wouldn’t bother me too much. Unless my vision started failing really badly, because, you know... I like seeing.
If you do have glasses, how would you feel if you didn't need them anymore? >> ---
How many vegetarians do you know? >> I’m not sure.
Have you ever considered going to art school? >> No.
Is there anyone in your life who consistently angers you? >> No.
How quickly can you write an essay? >> I don’t know.
Have you ever had problems falling asleep in class? >> In high school, i was put on multiple psychotropic/anti-depressant drugs, none of which I actually needed, so they all had pretty adverse effects on me. Including making me fall asleep in class almost constantly.
Have you ever been on the barrier or front row at a concert? >> I usually was.
If you have a job, who is your least favorite coworker/manager? >> ---
Favorite episode of Spongebob? >> I don’t like that show.
Do you have any silly/odd emotional connections to anything/anyone? >> I don’t want to call any of my emotional connections silly or odd. Especially since I have a hard enough time making them in the first place -- I want to encourage and support those connections, not disparage them. :/
Are your parents supportive of you? >> I took this survey almost a decade ago, and my answer then was that he was supportive even if he didn’t always approve. I was really on some bullshit then, I guess... because that’s just not true. He only supported what he thought was appropriate for me to be involved in, and when I invariably wanted to do or be other things, he was dismissive and almost derisive. Being supported in my being and endeavours is not a common theme in my life and it starts with that motherfucker.
How often do you take the train to go places? >> I don’t take it much anymore; the last time I took it was to go to Chicago and back, as an experiment (Sparrow wanted to see if it was truly better than driving there and back). When I lived in the City, of course, I took a subway all the time. Really miss that.
Do you play with your phone in awkward situations? >> I guess I would, if I found myself in a situation I thought was awkward. I usually don’t.

Survey #250
"you’re so pretty, dripping sin.”
Do you plan on having children in the future? No. How big is your house? It's very small. Two bedroom, one bathroom. Do you believe that the world will actually end? Humanity, yes. The planet being inhabitable, probably at some point. The universe itself, life itself, won't, though. Describe your handwriting: Very fancy/fluid, a weird mix of cursive and print. Can you speak any other languages than your first language? Some German, but not a lot by now. I've lost a lot of memory of it. If you could speak another, which would it be? I wanna be fluent in German, but it's not something I pursue 'cuz I guess like... why. I don't think I'll ever really apply it to my life, nor is it something I'm DYING to do, so paying for classes just seems. Idk. What is one trend you think is stupid? I don't care. Let people enjoy things. Do you ever watch any soap operas? No. Do you ever get goodnight or good morning texts from people? Not usually. If I do, it's only ever Sara. When did you last go to the doctor and what for? I'm assuming you mean a general doctor, in which case, I think it was just a regular check-up a month or so back. Are you socially awkward? To a painful degree that I'm incredibly sick of. Can't be in a social situation and not feel uncomfortable even if it saved my ass. Would you rather watch a comedy movie or horror movie? It would depend on my mood, but horror would usually win. Do you know where your family came from? Europe. If you could choose to be any mythical character, which would you choose? Realistically, probably like, an elf or something 'cuz they're pretty unlike me so it'd be a nice change. :^) Where are both of your parents right at this moment? Mom's at church, and Dad is probably at home 'cuz it's Sunday. Have you ever seen a movie so ridiculous you couldn’t watch the rest? Yep. Does it make you angry when people text short messages back? If I'm seriously trying to have a conversation, it doesn't make me *angry*, just aggravated. What is your favorite animal and why? Meerkats. I could write a damn essay on why, but I'm not up for it, so basically, they are just extremely interesting animals with serious fire in a foot-tall body. Are you satisfied with your gender? Yeah. Have you ever kept a successful diary before? Not really. Well, I guess for short periods of time. I'd call them just "journals," though. It was something to do every time I stayed in the hospital, a good, insightful thing even, and just really at my lowest times, it helped me, but I never stuck to it. Are you good at admitting your problems? I think I'm very honest about them, really. Have you ever had a hangover? No. What is something you’re looking for in the next three months? I don't know. What’s something you normally cannot spell on your own? I have trouble with certain words where "e" or "a" could both easily be used (ex., "independEnce"), so I rely on spellcheck with words like those a lot. Looks or personality? Which is more important to you? Personality. Do you know any strippers? I don’t think so. How many times have you dyed your hair? Holy fuck idk. What is something that reminds you of your childhood? Cranium games. Do you think you eat healthy? I think I eat decently. Since I started paying attention to calories, I improved a lot. How would you describe your style of speech? Are you a fast/slow speaker? Do you stutter often? Generally, I think I speak quietly (but sometimes actually too loud, according to Mom) at a pretty normal pace, sometimes kinda fast, but I stutter a lot. When was the last time you’ve visited a family member’s house? What was the occasion? I haven't been to anyone's in a while... I think the last time was when I went to Ashley's to babysit my nephew a few months ago. Have you ever tried to construct a language? How do you feel about fictional languages (such as Dothraki and Klingon)? Not really. One of my old RP friends and I kinda-sorta had this "ancient meerkat language," but it was faaaar from developed. I don't feel any particular way about fake languages. Were you born and raised into a certain religion? What was it and have you changed your religion? Yes, Roman Catholicism. I've changed my religion quite a few times... Well, I don't like "changed." It just developed away from what was instilled in my head as a little kid. How do you usually feel when one of your favorite television or book series end? This doesn't apply to me really, because I haven't been involved in those things for a long time. The only one that I really cared about/was watching when it was current content was Meerkat Manor. I was sooooo so bummed out. That show had such, such, SUCH a colossal impact on my life. What do you like most about your town or neighborhood? Nothing. Well, it's small. Are you looking forward to any upcoming events? I'm obviously anticipating Mom starting chemo this week, but also very nervous. I don't want to see the physical toll it takes on her. What were your first impressions on your current best or closest friend? Lmao it's still funny to this day to me, our start... I just didn't like her. I thought she was over-dramatic and attention-crazed. What would you do if you knew a person that you were not fond of or even disliked, but they considered you as a friend? Would you confront them, avoid them, etc.? "I wouldn’t confront them unless something happened that made it come to a head. I’d try to be civil yet non-committal. It would also depend how I knew them and how much I had to interact with them." <<<< This. It doesn't seem necessary to just randomly walk up to this person and be like "hey you know you're not my friend, right?" Just leave it be unless something occurs where it seems more relevant. What are some things that you do to make you feel relaxed? Listen to music, nap... How often to do go to concerts? What was your favorite experience so far? Not even nearly enough because 1.) I'm not in a position where I can afford tickets and 2.) NO good bands like, ever come here. We only ever have country bands. The only concert I've been to was Alice Cooper, which was great. What is your newest and/or current passion? Newest, uhhhh. Idk man. I have a lot of current passions, but none surpass the Blazing Inferno of Love in my heart for Mark Edward Fischbach. Do you still have a fear that you had held since childhood? If not, how did you overcome one or more of your childhood fears? Yes, dolls. It's really mild now, but still, I really don't like porcelain dolls. What is your favorite type of weather? In general, a moderate snow. To actually be in, ohhhh man, gimme that cool, crisp fall air with a partly cloudy sky, very little to no breeze, depending on how cool it is. Do you watch documentaries? If so, do you have a particular favorite? I love animals docs. Meerkat Manor is of course my favorite. Is there a particular sentence or line from a book that carries a deep meaning to you? What is that sentence/line and why does it speak to you? I'm sure there is, but none immediately come to mind. When's the last time you ate bread? A couple days back for a sandwich. What's the last movie you watched on your own? UHHHHHHHH I think it was The Shining. Great movie, so glad I finally watched it. What about the last movie you watched with another person? Now this I'm unsure about, but I want to say The Lion King (live action) with Dad. What about the last movie you saw at the cinema? Was it good? ^ It was fucking great. I mean maybe I'm biased because it's my favorite movie, but either way, the hate it got shocked me. I know people were upset about like "oh they looked so emotionless" but like... they're animals made in the most realistic portrayal possible. I thought that was very cool. Do you attend school, college, or uni? I'm a college student. What do you study, wherever you study? Photography. What industry do you want to be a part of when you’re older? At least SOMETHING with art, or even animal rescue and conservation. How many girls can you trust? Like, two. What about guys? Also probably two, maybe three. How do you earn your keep? I don't. I don't/can't work (at least right now) and my disability case was just denied for the second time, so, y'know, I'm basically a leech. If you could speak three different languages fluently, what would they be? Not including English? German, Japanese, and Spanish, for convenience's sake. Who do you usually text the most? My mom or Sara. Baths or showers? Showers; baths gross me out. Cheese or tomato? Noooot a tomato fan, so. At least I like some cheese. Shaved legs or shaved arms? ??? I mean I think shaving your legs is more noticeable, but I don't care. I'd only ever shave my legs (I mean unless I had a good reason to shave my arms?), but shave whatever you want, dude. How many coats do you own? One winter coat. What about shoes? A handful, though I only ever wear my sneakers or flip-flops, lol. One word to describe your most recent ex? A soldier. Fried, poached, boiled or scrambled eggs? I will only ever fully eat scrambled eggs. Boiled, I'll only eat the whites. Fuck yolk, shit's gross. Have you ever been surprised with breakfast in bed? No. Where, in your current cournty, would you like to live, other than where you do now? Western NC, in the mountains. It's beautiful. Where wouldn’t you want to live? Several places, like North Korea. Do you like snow? I'm a kid when it comes to snow, I love it. Have you always got good grades? Up until college, I did... Do you like sheer clothing? With something under it, yes. List four things about your facial appearance: 1.) It's this really weird mix of dry as hell and oily; 2.) I have blue/gray eyes; 3.) I wear large, black-rimmed glasses; and 4.) I have a vertical labret in my bottom lip. List four things about your general appearance: 1.) I'm fat even though I've worked my fucking ass off to keep losing weight for two years now :^); 2.) I have some but certainly not enough tattoos and piercings; 3.) I'm very pale; and 4.) I have very short, brown hair that needs to be dyed immediately. List four things you like about yourself: 1.) I'm extremely empathetic; 2.) I care a fucking LOT about the people I love; 3.) I'd say I let myself fall kinda easily, yet I'm resilient as shit and will always get back up; and 4.) I'm extremely open-minded and capable of considering a whole lot. List four things you dislike about yourself: 1.) MY GOTDAMN WEIGHT; 2.) my teeth are too yellow for my liking (I've been exceptionally self-conscious of that lately as I've used whitening strips); 3.) I'm extremely impulsive with what I say and do when I'm seriously upset; and 4.) I will, without fail, jump to the worst possible conclusion in any and all situations. List four of your favorite TV programs: 1.) Meerkat Manor; 2.) That '70s Show; 3.) Fullmetal Alchemist (+Brotherhood); and 4.) Deadman Wonderland. List four of your favorite foods/drinks: 1.) Mountain Dew Voltage is my absolute worst enemy; 2.) I will ANNIHILATE the spicy shrimp fritas from Olive Garden; 3.) the shrimp & cheese quesadillas from Mexican restaurants are not safe either; and 4.) pizza is, of course, rather gucci. Cats or dogs? Idk, I really like both. Have you ever seen anyone famous in the street? Hunty I live in NC, that doesn't happen here. Are you hungry right now? No. What do you think of couples who have entire albums just for them, with pictures of them just randomly at home, doing nothing that really requires a photo? Dude, I love that. Cherish every moment with each other. Make memories, freeze them in pictures. Can you work the microwave? Well, considering it's the only thing I cook in and we've had the same one my entire life (ours is extremely old/can't be bought anymore and is SERIOUSLY durable with time, apparently, as it works perfectly), I know it well. Can you work the washing machine? Heh. Not really... embarrassing as that is. My mom does both of our laundry together, so... but I should seriously still know. She's shown me a few times, but with how abominably horrid my memory is, I forget again and again. There's too many options. Do you like your photo being taken? NO. Have you ever got into a club, whilst being underage? Never been to a club period. How many magazines do you buy a month? None. How many of them are car-related? "If I did, they certainly wouldn’t be car related. That doesn’t interest me at all." <<<< Big same. What about fashion? Well, I'd like ones that offered alternative clothing choices that you could order. Any celeb gossip ones? Ew. What pets do you have? We're about to have only two: my snake Venus and cat Roman. With Mom's cancer diagnosis and both chemo and surgery coming along, she simply can't handle our dumb dog anymore. He's needed to go for a LONG time, so we're trying to find a new home for him. Last gig you went to? Still Alice Cooper. Next gig your going to? Should Ozzy still have his concerts like he wants to after his treatments in Sweden or wherever it is, most likely him. Mom and I planned to, and we will absolutely go if he reinstates them. I'm completely understanding if this doesn't happen though; he has to take care of himself, the poor 'ole man. Bless him. Life's a cruel bitch, giving a legendary singer Parkinson's (it's going to disable him from singing with time). Favorite color? Pink! o: Are you regularly tired? Only always, my friend. Are you excited to live on your own? Completely alone, no. I know it would be extremely unhealthy for me with depression and becoming so easily lonely and unmotivated without encouragement and companionship of some sort. I'll have to live with a spouse. Even then, I'm nervous about it. Living with Jason and our friends in that apartment was both a good and very bad experience; it taught me a good deal of independence, but I still found it very stressful. When do you plan on moving out? When I've been in a long-term, healthy relationship. Do you daydream? Only all the time. Do you dream at night? More like have nightmares/terrors almost nightly. BUT! They've actually chilled some the past few days!! I don't recall what the dream was (but I'm 90% sure Mark was in it, A SHOCKER), but I woke up laughing hysterically recently, Mom told me. So that could only be a good sign. When you’re sick, do you like to be pampered, or left alone? A mix, but mostly the former honestly. Halp pls. But I also want my time to sleep. Are you superstitious? Nope. How many pictures are in your wallet? Ohhh I'm actually not sure. I know I have a handful of my nieces and nephews. I need one of Emerson now. If someone cries while watching a sad movie..do you laugh at them? ???? That is so insensitive???? No???? How often do you change your sheets? I'm... not sure, actually? I know at LEAST once a month (which probably isn't enough), but possibly another time? Idk, I don't pay attention. I just do when I feel it's time to. Is you bedroom upstairs or down? We only have one floor. Is it true blood is thicker than water? Nope. If you could wish someone out of your life... who would it be? Well, he's not *literally* a part of it, but Jason, as far as in my head. Remembering him, sudden memories, flashback prompts, all that jazz are very much daily events. Truly, it doesn't *really* affect me much anymore, it's just so "normal," but it would certainly be grand if he wasn't the most staple person in my head. If you could be with anyone in the world..famous or not..who would it be? HUNNY SWEET CHILD- Are you high maintenance? Nope. If you could change one thing in the world... what would it be? PEACE. JUST PEACE. No war, no violence in general, just. Handle shit like mature adults. If you could star in any movie... which would it be? None. I'm too self-conscious of myself to be in a movie, and I'm a horrible and extremely awkward actress. If you could live in a fairy tale..which would it be? "Alice in Wonderland." <<<< 100% 100% 100%. If you could live in the past..where would it be? The '80s, baby!! If you could see only one person right now..who would it be? Ugh, Sara. I've missed her to death and desperately wanna hang out. Do you wear shoes in the house? No sir. Do you dream in color or black and white? YO! I only recently learned this is a thing with some people, but I dream in color. What is your favorite accent? British. Do you write poetry/songs/stories? Poetry, occasionally. Stories, well, you could easily consider RP that, as we're all collaboratively writing many. Do you wear socks with sandals? gtfo of here with that shit Would you marry for money? HA, no. Do you have any “in the mood” music you like to listen to? AHAHA YES I'M SORRY. Would you vote for a woman president? "If she was a good candidate in my own personal opinion, yeah." <<<< "This. I want to vote for someone who I feel can do the best job. Their gender has nothing to do with it." <<<< Ditto. Are looks/appearances really important? For me personally, not really. Like yes, it's nice to feel physical attraction towards your love interest, but it's a very, very little factor for me, if at all. When you die, do you want to be cremated or buried? Please just cremate me. I really don't wanna be buried. Just taking up space. Do you like to play video games? Yeah, but not as much as I used to, though I wish I did... I think I've watched way too many let's plays to where I can enjoy just fine watching YTers I like experience the game, and I do secondhand while getting some good laughs. Do you like Final Fantasy? Which one do you prefer of all? Oh my god, I wish I was more involved in that series, as I know how madly beloved it is. I used to be obsessed with the demo for FFVIII; my sister, brother, and I would play it like mad, but only Bobby could beat it. The final spider-like boss of the demo was fuckin impossible. I did play a lot of FFVII, which I adored, it was just... so long and by maybe over halfway through, I just drifted from it. I need to watch a playthrough of it, honestly, because the story was so captivating and I genuinely would love to witness how it ends. Have you ever caught on fire? WOW no thank fuck. Do you have a YouTube channel? Yeah, but I don't really make stuff anymore. I don't have Vegas on this computer and honestly I'm just not motivated to really make videos. Do you ever go to video game arcades? No. :( Do you care what people think of you? In most cases, VERY MUCH. Not always, though, but it STRICTLY depends on the situation, big time. Like, I'll walk into Wal-Mart in my pj's np, but there are just a lot of things where I will seriously care too much. Have you ever had a crush on a teacher? No. I had one teacher that ALL the girls thought was super attractive, but I definitely didn't have a crush on him... and then later he got fired for sexual relations with one of the students. OOF. Do you like Lady Gaga? I don't mind her, usually. She's got some good jams. "Bad Romance" is legendary. Do you think you have been in love before? Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaadly in love, friends. Do you like Edgar Allan Poe? Love him! Have you ever gotten hit on by some creeper? Oh god yeah and it was awful. Do you bless random people when they sneeze? Yep. Do you have a short temper? No. Have you ever had a yard sale? Yes. Do you go to Barnes and Noble for books, the library or someplace else? I go to Books-A-Million. Do you have an iPad? Nope. Are you scared to die? Yes and no. It's the unknown of what comes after that makes me apprehensive. Do you go to church every Sunday? I never go. Do you think you draw well? I honestly think I draw decently. Have you ever wanted to be a meteorologist? No. Do you like Taylor Swift? Not really, and DEFINITELY not newer stuff, but I will rock hardcore to "Picture To Burn," "Safe and Sound" is positively beautiful, and "Love Story" used to be my favorite song at one point.

I like to think so. I try to dish out a good balance of logic and humor but I know I don’t always take my own advice, don’t @ me.
6) Do you have any mental illnesses?
Lol you mean besides the constant awareness of how cataclysmic the human experience is? Jk I probably have anxiety but nothing clinically diagnosed.
7) Have you ever experienced sleep paralysis?
Luckily, my body is only problematic when I’m awake. It sounds terrifying so I hope I never do!
8) What musician has inspired you the most?
Halsey. Her albums have depicted our similar emotional development arcs and I pretty much worship the ground she walks on. Mad respect for kpop groups like BTS and GOT7 though, seeing as they have to go through so much extra shit in the Korean entertainment industry to achieve their dreams and that’s also mega inspiring.
9) Have you ever fallen in love?
“My first love was some insignificant boy when it should have been myself.”
10) What’s your dream date?
This one’s tough. Either a whole day at SixFlags or a beach trip somewhere exotic, just the two of us.

My hair is pretty damn long. I was visiting family in LA once and a girl asked if it was real and that’s the most LA thing that’s probably ever happened to me
12) What is an annoying habit of yours?
Procrastination. Even I get annoyed with myself!
13) Do you still talk with your first love?

I’ve had several flings but I’ve yet to commit to anything official. High standards and what not. Zero for now, but Park Jinyoung can feel free to change that any time!
15) How many songs are on your playlist?
I’m an?? ENFP Libra?? I can’t?? Just have?? one playlist??!
16) What instrument(s) can you play?

17) Who do you have the most pictures of?
Friends, family, and various kpop boy memes
18) Where would you like to go before you die?
The shorter list would be where I WOULDN’T want to go. But I’d go visit any space colony. The International Space Station. All of Asia. Canada lol

Libra sun, Sagittarius moon, Capricorn rising
20) Do you relate to it?

I’m a sucker for Uniqlo but they don’t have one in my state *cue sobbing*
25) What’s your opinion on abortion?

Not in a physical form, but yes in my head

oh it didn't sound argumentative at all! there's rumors of two new big hit girl groups debuting sometime soon which is gonna be fun considering we already know big hit just wanted sakura because of the hype around her lmfao i love big hit groups but i don't trust that company one bit. they're becoming the disney of kpop and trying to monopolize on everything. ALSO i don't know why source music and big hit wanted to co manage a girl group after the glam situation ??? it doesn't add up to me lol
i've seen some rumours as well, but one of them is always about the female version of i-land which like.... i've scoured every news article about it & none of them actually link it to bighit?? and the only similarity is the fact you vote through an app ( see below ) so idk how much i actually believe any of them. i know at the end of i-land it said they were auditioning girls, but like... the timeframe between that & whenever girls planet 999 starts airing seems pretty tight?? especially considering mnet announced girls planet 999 in january. i know enhypen spent some time after i-land training as well, but you can't deny this feels rushed & is just more ammo in the 'bighit don't care about women' agenda if girls planet 999 is affiliated with them. but also glam are entirely why i don't think he trusts women anymore, bc like... with the exception of gfriend, every subsidiary that they've acquired only has male artists ( obvs pledis has svt & nu'est and koz has zico, dvwn & penomeco ) and the two groups they've since debuted have also been boy groups. just say u hate women & go??
Tumblr media
but yeah i've talked at length ( not so much here, but on my old blog ) about how bighit are clearly monopolising the industry but no one cares because they only acquire """smaller""" companies. except... you know... seventeen are arguably bts' biggest competition ( because they can't exactly acquire sm ent so seventeen are the next biggest after nct ). i know the fair trade commission has to approve any & all mergers and acquisitions, but we live in a world where bribes are exchanged & people in power get what they want whether it's lawful or not. as long as they keep targeting smaller companies, then i think they'll keep getting approved, until there aren't really any other options left?? idk the whole thing is shady & adds into why i don't trust them with minors.
i get that they're trying to recreate the same rags to riches origin story that bts had with txt & enhypen, but it's just neglectful?? to house them, especially when some members are still children, without basic furniture?? whenever i see photos of txt eating off the floor in their first dorm because bighit didn't give them a table, it makes me so mad?? i saw clips of enhypen's dorm tour and people were gassing up the fact that bighit gave them a flatscreen TV, but once again, no furniture to go with it?? they were all sat on the floor watching it because bighit couldn't provide them with a sofa because...? reasons i guess? much the same as putting all of enhypen in one bedroom. i appreciate that bts were all crammed into one room, but bighit make SO MUCH MONEY now that stuffing all 7 of enhypen into one room is just irresponsible?? no one will buy a rags to riches story from them, or txt, because they come from bighit and everyone is aware of how much money they make, so like... why try? why bother? you can tell me it's normal for groups to be stuffed together like that, but let's examine groups from companies that have similar kinds of income;
stray kids - 8 members, 3 bedrooms
exo - i'm not sure about when there were 12, but i know there were 5 rooms between 10 of them after kris & luhan left
treasure - 12 members, 12 rooms across 3 dorms
no one is saying they have to live in a palace, but cramming them all into one room when they make the kind of money they do is lazy?? i live with 4 other people currently and we all have our our room & we make our landlord a LOT less money than bighit makes from their various groups. i just really can't stand bighit or bang sihyuk or the decisions he / they make. i'm not a oneit by any means but like.... anyone with sense can tell it's shady as hell that bighit said x1 were only famous because of pdx101 UNLIKE txt who earned their fame through hard work ( that is almost a direct quote ) just because txt & x1 were nominated for the same award, and then months later come out with i-land... a survival show... god i just really hate bighit

SPOTLIGHT: My relationship to failure
Tumblr media
If you’re just joining Spotlight, then this is my personal journal of my personal journey as a performer. It’s a kind of way for me to look back on all of my experiences, and lessons I’ve learned, while simultaneously sharing what I’ve learned with you. Disclaimer: The word PERSONAL was utilized twice in the first sentence. Therefore, this is not the gospel or the truth, it’s just me sharing MY experiences in an effort to assist, if possible, in other people’s discovery (end disclaimer). Today, I’m taking a small break from my A+B=C method which focuses on “Brian’s B’s” (Being, Behavior, and Business), to talk about something that I think we all encounter….FAILURE.
I post a lot about success and achievement in this blog site in the form of strategies I have developed, and even my own wins. Recently, I had been feeling like a very big failure. Therefore, today, I’m going to talk to you about my failures. My failures far outperform my successes, and couple of weeks ago I was feeling out of sorts, and had been feeling that way for about a week or so. The day I started writing this, I ended up going to the gym, doing a Zumba class, and afterwards listening to Jem & the Holograms’ “We Can Change It” on repeat (because it’s one of the most positive and uplifting songs I’ve ever heard…Not only that, but it takes me back to a much simpler time in my life, and always puts a smile on my face). So there I was listening to Jem, while doing what I call a “White Boy Workout”. You know, the kind where you lift the heaviest weights possible and angry grunt a lot. White boys, please don’t be offended. As the late, great Joan Rivers said, “It’s a fucking joke!” lol :) At any rate, I often do that kind of workout when I’m letting off steam, and I REALLY needed to let off some steam because I was feeling like a complete and total failure. Why? Well, let me give you some details to set up my current situation. It started with a list of unfortunate events at the end of 2016. First, the big named clients for whom I normally worked, and who provided me with over 70% of my annual income, were not hiring for 2017. I also found out in mid-2017 that they weren’t going to be hiring for the second year in a row. Second, my assistance from said jobs had expired at the end of 2017. Third, my agent, who provided the remainder/other portion of my income (and with whom I’d been signed for the last nine years), decided to shut down the agency and close their doors for good. Fourth, around this time multiple members of my family were contacting me in a near desperate state because my other parent was also experiencing what were percieved as a potential major health concern. Fifth, and last but not least, my living situation had become even more toxic…again (that’s an entire essay in itself, and one I’ll save for another day). The culmination of all these things forced me to make a very big change in my life, which was to move from the nest I’d created for myself over the last 14 years in San Francisco, and try a new market. So I packed up my things, and headed for Los Angeles to live with my adoptive brother. Now I am in a new market, where no one knows me, and no one knows my work history, talents, or my work ethic. Not to mention, I had to utilize my savings and have also accumulated a bit of debt over the past two years just trying to survive and stay afloat. This brings me to my situation from a few weeks ago where I was feeling kind of lost and alone, and without any income or upcoming work. For all intents and purposes, I’m essentially completely starting over in my life in nearly every way. Needless to say, I have been feeling like a GIANT failure. In addition, after reviewing my annual business plan only days before, I reviewed my list of goals. By nature they should take me to the next level of my career, but I am now living in a place where I’m a nobody and can’t see how to achieve these new goals. This for me highlighted the fact that I was once again a giant failure in life…period. Yet, there’s that word ‘once again’. I have been here before, and I’m willing to bet that many others have either felt like this, or have also been in similar situations; Especially other performers. So how do I (we) transform my (our) failures into successes? I’m guessing the answer lies in failing some more.
FAIL MORE TO ENDURE
In a previous post, where I discussed my approach to making a living as an actor, I mention that statistically the average performer (specifically actor) only books 10% of every thing for which they might audition. Utilizing this statistic against the average day rate of pay for the market in which I lived (San Francisco), I calculated that I would need to attend approximately 25-30 auditions per month just to break even on monthly expenses. Keep in mind if you look at this another way, this would mean that I would be failing to book approximately 23-27 times EACH MONTH! That means over the last 7 years, I failed to book a job over 1,900 times. Many of them were very VERY good paying jobs that could’ve taken me many other places. To exemplify, there were approximately 4 big budget SAG national commercials in that mix, all of them paying what would have been the equivalent of my annual salary. I was placed on a hold/check avail for all of them…and I booked none of them; Failed. I won’t even go into detail about the network tv show for which I was being strongly considered. Long story short, the director received my name and resume from a mutual friend, but after reviewing my materials, he said that he “wouldn’t waste putting me in a supporting role”; Failed! Yes, that’s only a couple of examples to help illustrate how my failures have far outweighed my successes. But much like my equation for breaking even on monthly expenses while living in San Francisco, the equation for success is similar. Failing a lot ensures achieving at least 10% success from failures. So I have to go out there and fail s’more! Why? Well, first off it’s how we build durability.
The very first audition I attended was in Pittsburgh, PA and it was for a toothpaste commercial. I had just been introduced to theatre in high school, and was performing in the spring musical for the first time. I went into the audition and naturally I totally BOMBED IT! I was completely horrible and even though I felt as though I was invincible, I had absolutely NO IDEA what I was doing. Needless to say, I didn’t get the job, and I knew it as soon as I left the audition room. I cried for the longest time and didn’t attend an audition again for probably a year. Which of course was next year’s school spring musical audition. While in high school I built up a small ability to endure these auditions and it got stronger and stronger each year. Cut to twenty five years later, I now find the audition process to be a normal thing. Although I still experience nerves, it’s become normal and natural for me and I’ve built up a kind of inoculation to it where I can navigate it much better. I’ve built up a durability to it. Durability is one of the coolest after effects of failing often. The more we fail, the more durable we become so that things don’t have such a crippling effect on us.
FAIL MORE TO MASTER
Another great after effect of more failures, is mastery and/or learning. For this, I always think of one example in particular. I was on set with another actor one day and he was talking about things that inspired him, and how many actors often aren’t very good in their early years. He used the example of Eva Longoria, and he claimed that she wasn’t very good during her early soap opera days. I stopped him and asked him if he knew about the conditions under which soap opera actors operate. He admitted he didn’t know, and so I told him. A lot of the time, soap opera actors are given scripts merely minutes or hours before shooting. This can also sometimes be true of many other episodic television as well. The business side of much of entertainment operates so quickly that it doesn’t always leave the adequate space or room for in depth actor preparation. Specifically soap operas. So when he saw Eva Longoria, he saw someone who was probably new to the business and hadn’t had practice operating under those kinds of circumstances. After hearing this, the actor with whom I was working, better understood the circumstances under which Eva was operating (EVERYONE has different circumstances in life, and it’s always great to keep this in mind). This was a great example of someone who failed in order to master. Once Ms. Longoria had an understanding of the system, she knew how to work with it and even began mastering it. This was evident in her work on other shows in the future as she really kicked some ass on screen!
I have failed like that in many ways. The only difference is that I used San Francisco as my training ground for a lot of it. A few of the things I was mediocre at during the beginning of my stay in SF were: acting for the camera (I started in theatre so everything started too big), TelePrompTer, stunts for camera, and voiceover. When I first began each of these I sucked ass. I was horrible, but I kept working on each of them and became good. Some came easier than others, but I knew getting good was important because by the time I got back to LA I would need to be ready and prepared to work. My previous experience of LA was that the city and entertainment industry was a business and those who were actually working wanted to work with people who could work at their level and could contribute to efficiency and profitability. That means a mastery of job skills. Right now the skill I’m learning is moving to a new market. I’m in the early phases, and I’m failing (EPICALLY) at the moment, but I’m slowly learning how to master it. After I’ve mastered it, I’ll be ready to do the next step, which I believe, is to climb that ladder of success!
FAIL MORE TO CLIMB
Once we are able to build up durability and master our skills, we can then more effectively and efficiently climb the ladder of success. The ladder of success is often a difficult climb without strength, durability, grit, thorough skills, and developed talents. Usually, when ascending any kind of ladder, each step is more and more challenging; Requiring more evolved skills and responsibilities. But know that the more you fail, it’s very likely that you’ll be able to climb faster and easier.
CONCLUSION
Personally, I work hard, which means that I also fail hard. Every time that you see one of my successes, that often (but not always) means I’ve failed exponentially just to get there. In the past, I have failed many many times. I’ve failed at auditions, I’ve failed at tasks, and I’ve even failed at achievement. Currently, I’m failing in a major way in my transition into a new market. However, failure is a natural part of the equation for success. We often think that failures are the end all and be all of our endeavors. However, that mindset prevents us from gaining many of it’s benefits. Because, in fact, the sooner we can perceive and internalize the benefits of failure, the better. The more we fail, learn from our failures, and build up our durability to failures, the sooner we can climb the ladder of success. So I invite you all to look at failure through this lens. Change your conversation about it. Because it’s then, that you can watch failure work in your favor!
