Hey there, Happy New Year! Sorry if this ask seems confusing.
I've really come to enjoy your blog as someone who is kind of new to navigating the world of comics and how to read them and you seem to be one of the people that's more vocal about all the fanon and canon differences and how that damages people's perception of characters. I'm just a bit confused in what you consider to be the difference of headcanons and fanon, I know fanon is a more of something that a big number of people believe, but if someone headcanons something that isn't covered in canon, would that be "bad" or fall on the fandom category?
Hope this doesn't sound mean or anything, I'm just a bit confused
hello!! welcome to batburger!!!!
wrt fanon vs canon my issue is this — parts of comic fandom are very vocal about not engaging with the source material. deciding what fanon is “good” vs “bad” isn’t the point because im not interested in policing peoples fandom experience. however there is a point where i don’t understand what exactly some people are fans of, because what they talk about is so disconnected from the original text.
imagine meeting a hunger games fan, and when u ask about their favourite movie or book, they instead tell u that they’ve never read or seen any part of the series, exclusively read fanfiction, and then inform u that they believe president snow is peeta’s grandfather and that actually haymitch was the authoritarian mastermind behind the hunger games. that doesn’t make any sense, and has no basis in canon. it’s a very extreme hypothetical, but i wouldn’t really take what they say about the hunger games seriously. it also reminds me a bit of the hp marauders fanworks that exist almost autonomously to the books (while still containing the same issues as said books).
most fanon enjoyers (and this is particularly pervasive with batfam fans) enjoy characters and relationships that simply do not exist. that alone isn’t a problem (crackships and headcanons have existed since ye olde star trek zine days) but the issue is that these fanon interpretations are loudly asserted as being the correct way to engage with the characters. i do not believe it should be controversial to prefer characters in their canonical text, or to ask why some fanon content is taken as gospel, especially when so much of it is racialised.
this lends into a wider trend where these headcanons are respected more than canon despite often being actively reductive, accidentally demeaning, or just plain bad faith interpretations. it’s much harder to combat the racism present in conversations about damian wayne when the people in question aren’t grant morrison or judd winick or scott snyder, but instead a nebulous group of people on twitter.
flatly, i encourage people to read the source material. there are a lot of comics, but googling ‘[literally any character] reading list’ has literally never been easier. start by consuming the movies or cartoons or films or shows or the one volume graphic novels, then pinpoint what u like and start from there. people are discouraged from reading comics — and they shouldn’t be!! especially for popular characters there are very accessible starting points!! u will find characters to love with rich history and lore!!!! support queer artists and artists of colour who are actively changing the industry!!! i guarantee that the fanon version of that male character u love is actually originally from a female character with a great miniseries written by greg rucka!!!!

hi :3 my 23rd birthday is tomorrow and if you have time/requests are open may I please have a set for Copia (or all da papas I’m just a Copia girly) celebrating his s/o’s birthday? I love your work and thank you so much for considering 💓
Happy belated birthday!! Sorry I didn't answer sooner, been busier than I thought I would be oops. I hope you had a wonderful birthday anon <3 very slightly suggestive so minors DNI. There's no smut, but all the same minors please scroll away (also tysm anon, it makes me super happy knowing that people enjoy my work <3)
𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐨
Primo isn't someone who usually celebrates his own birthday, but he will absolutely celebrate yours with you
You'll wake up to one of his ghouls giving you breakfast in bread with your favourite tea blend or coffee that Primo has made especially for you
He'll have his ghouls also put up a couple of streamers and some balloons to mark the occasion
Expect to receive the biggest, most beautiful bouquet of flowers that he's grown himself and put together in a beautiful arrangement just for you
It's a quiet celebration with just you, a few of your friends, Primo, and his ghouls out in the abbey gardens
The main gift he'll give you is a day trip to a luxurious spa owned by the Ministry. I'm talking massages, sauna, manicure, pedicure, whatever services you want all for free because he's paid for it all
At the end of the day, he'll run you a hot bath with some bubbles, scented candles, and relaxing music. You both relax in the bath together as you wind down after a calm but intimate birthday celebration
You'll both fall asleep together in bed watching a film, snuggled up beneath the covers
𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐨
Another Emeritus brother who will throw a small but intimate celebration
Well, during the day that is
The daytime celebration is you, him, his brothers, and your friends getting together for a lunch that he's planned out meticulously and curated just for you so that it's all your favourite foods and drinks
Practically buries you under gifts that he's either bought or had made for you over the past year. Absolutely spoils you rotten
He then takes you and some friends out clubbing at one of the Ministry owned clubs for the nighttime celebration
Reserved the VIP section especially for the occasion
He gets very touchy but doesn't go any further than lingering touches or pulling you into his lap to kiss you
That's being saved for when the two of you are alone later in the night nudge nudge wink wink
𝐓𝐞𝐫𝐳𝐨
I think a lot of people would assume that he'll wake you up on your birthday for certain bedroom activities to celebrate
And don't get me wrong, if that's what you want then he's up for that
But he actually lets you sleep in and when you do wake up you're met with a bedroom decorated with so many balloons and streamers and banners that you wonder for a moment if you've woken up in an alternate dimension
Terzo didn't get to celebrate birthdays much growing up as the youngest of the Emeritus brothers, especially with a father like Nihil, so he wants to go all out and make yours special
He spent hours in the kitchen after decorating and before you woke up baking you a birthday cake
It's your favourite cake, covered with your favourite colour and flavour of icing, and the words "happy birthday, tesore" written on top
Most of your day is going to be spent opening the ridiculous amount of presents he got you
A lot of the presents are homemade things, such as a photo album stuffed full of photos of you and him and your friends. He wanted you to have gifts that felt special and personal, so a lot of his time over the past month or so was spent making and putting the gifts together
𝐂𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐚
One thing you need to know about Copia: he is party planner extraordinaire
After spending many years being the one to organise all the Ministry functions and parties, he could probably retire and become an events planner whenever he doesn't want to be Papa anymore
Your birthday starts with you waking up to him softly singing to himself as he puts little party hats and costumes on his rats, wearing his own party outfit of a sparkly jacket in your favourite colour and a matching party hat
The party he's organised for you is breathtaking and everyone in the Ministry as well as your friends are in attendance
He struggled on deciding what to get you for your birthday, so he's bought a variety of gifts in the hopes that you'll like them
You might have to reassure him that you'll love any gift he gets you because he's so anxious about impressing you and making you happy
When the party is over and you're both back in your room, he does have another surprise for you
He gets his Papal paints out and paints his own makeup on your face. It's a very special and intimate act for a Papa and his partner that's almost like a ritual, so him doing this with you is an incredibly intimate and meaningful act that shows his love and commitment to you

Why The Hobbit is concidered so bad?
I am sorta new to the LOTR fandom and I'm just getting into things, though I read the books (currently rereading lotr cause apparently the version in my native language was cut) and seen the movies. Getting into the fandom I found that most fans find The Hobbit PJ movie embarrassing or ?humiliating? (hard to find proper words) and I do not understand why the idea is so powerful. I surely see the difference between the books and the movies and I do understand that PJ had brought quite an amount of unwanted things into it (such as too much comedy, different picture approach with all those effects, original character and many more plot adjustments).
But I can't help to like this series more than LOTR just because there ARE those non-canon things. They bring me so much comfort and joy. They literaly introduced me to the fandom and made me interested in the other films and books. As far as I remember, Hobbit has been considered much less gloomy and heavy as it was written for Tolkien's kids. So isn't it natural that this film ended up being colourful, often humorous and action-filled.
Books screen versions simply must differ from books. Some do this good, some are not great, but I think The Hobbit is more than alright. I just love that I have both the book and the movies.

"You aren't concentrating," Yoongi stated plainly while grabbing on the mannequin Soyeon had almost pushed down with her bokken.
She frowned at his statement and looked down at her hands. Indeed, they were clasped tightly around the shaft. Something she wasn't supposed to do. She breathed, loosening the grip on it.
Like a paintbrush, she reminded herself.
She went back and repeated the exercise, hitting the blue dot perfectly this time without actually pushing the dummy.
"Better. But you're still not fully concentrating."
His words frustrated her. Not because they weren't true but rather because they were. She wasn't concentrating. She was overthinking again. Lost in her thoughts for a moment to notice him walking up to her and snapping his fingers in front of her eyes. Offering her an empathetic smile.
"Tell me, what's going on in your head."
She let out a shaky breath, looking up into his soft eyes. How was she supposed to explain what was going on inside her? The best way to describe it probably being -
"Exhausted. I'm exhausted."
His eyes grew round for a moment before he nodded, immediatelly understanding what she meant. "Your situation is quite exhausting after all.. But you can't let this influence you in a fight," he said then and heaved the wooden sword that was still in her grip, "You've got to blank out any emotions and only focus on the moment."
"I know.. but that's easy for you to say, you've got years of practice," she whined, laughing tiredly and he couldn't object since she was right. Still, he was determined to help her.
"Hmh, yes. Without my training I'd be full of worries and uncertainties all the time," he admitted then with a hint of shy embarrassment in his voice, "And I still am, sometimes. But it's unfavourable during a fight. Trust me." He observed her lips parting a little, only to be pressed together again.
She sensed a story laying behind his word which she wasn't going to question now. Waiting for him to bring up on his own, maybe, some day. A sulky pout spreading on her lips then and he laughed under his breath at how adorable she looked.
"Isn't there any way for your mind to stop thinking and just be in the moment?"
Her eyes blinked at this, considering his question as she was in a sincere search for an answer. Her gaze falling to the side. "Usually when I listen to music. Although.. there was another thing that made my mind go blank recently.."
He arched a brow in anticipation, seeing her continuing avoiding his glance along with a mischievious smirk. His scowled turning into an amused laugh, being certain to get the not-so-subtle hint. "Is that your way of asking me to kiss you again?"
It'd be a lie if he said he hadn't permanently thought about the way her lips had tasted ever since.
"Technically, I was the one kissing you," she countered. The smirk widening.
It wasn't a lie though. A cheap way to get to kiss him again? Most likely, but not a lie. Because when kissing him, she hadn't thought. She'd just felt. Repeating the way he'd been holding her tenderly in her memory like a broken record.
It was interesting really. After the kiss, they had stayed a bit longer up there. Observing the last splashes of colour disappearing and fading into dark blue. And they had continue talking. It had flown so naturally, the conversation. It'd been mainly her curiosity continuing getting satisfied by asking him about his life as a thief. Making him tell her stories about heists and his friends.
Not once had it felt awkward afterwards. It was weird how things weren't weird at all between them. They had rather been like always, like before. As if the previous evening had never happened.
This was the first time one of them mentioned the kiss. And it ignited a new kind of excitement in her.
"You know, in a fight you won't be able to listen to music or kiss anyone," Yoongi tutted, "You'll have to find another way to block out your thoughts." A teasing grin creeping onto his features as he stepped even closer to her. Gently grabbing her chin between his fingers, he began leaning in only for Soyeon to withdraw suddenly, stepping away from his touch. Taking him aback with her smirk. "You're right, in a fight there won't be time for this."
Yeah, she was desperate to kiss him again but that didn't mean she was so easy to get. Besides, he wasn't the only one who enjoyed messing with others.
Laughing under his breath, he shook his head and threw a crooked smile her way when his phone's ringing echoed from the living room. He'd get another kiss, eventually.
He jogged out, leaving her back in the practice room to continue the exercise. His amused smile dropping when seeing the caller ID. A uneasy feeling spreading inside his chest, replacing the giddiness from before. "Hello?"
"Hey, so I got some interesting info after all.."
Yoongi swallowed at Seokjin's words and slowly took a seat on the couch.
"So, Jimin was right with the 18th century and Europe."
"Figured."
"But not just anywhere in Europe, it's from Florence. Italy. It belonged to a very wealthy family there called Rossi. An old family. Their roots go way back to medieval times."
His eyes widened. He could already sense where this was heading to. His gut feeling having been right after all, although all this time he kept hoping it wasn't. Ever since she had showed him this necklace, however, something inside him simply knew. Of course he knew, it had been his own profession all these past years. So when Seokjin continued talking, it didn't came as a surprise.
"It was stolen from them 40 years ago. The thief never got caught, nor do they know who it was. Obviously, technology back then wasn't as advantaged.. The only clue left at the crime-scene was a small wooden cat figurine."
"Cat figurine?"
"Yeah," Seokjin breathed, "First I was confused as well but then I did some digging. Turns out similar figurines had been found at various crime-scenes of jewelry theft all around the world at that time."
There was a small pause, none of them wanting to say out loud the obvious. "You said she got it from her grandfather and that some guys were after her?"
"Yeah.."
"Well.." the older guy sighed, "Either her grandfather somehow got it from the original thief or.."
"Or he was the thief." Another heavy silence followed, Seokjin not knowing what to tell him further and Yoongi not knowing how to handle that information.
"Will she get in trouble?" Yoongi eventually spoke up again with concern in his voice. "She doesn't know anything, she honestly doesn't."
The agent on the other line smiled sympathetically. "No, obviously not. She didn't know it's stolen goods and besides, limitation period for robbery is twenty years in most countries. Not even her grandfather would get in trouble anymore."
He exhaled in relief when hearing this. "Alright, thank you."
"Wait, there's more!"
He perked up. "More?"
"Yeah, you told me about these guys who were after her, right?"
"Right."
"The info was quite sparse but I think I know who they're working for. At least I can imagine.."
He added a dramatic pause, making Yoongi roll his eyes.
"Remember that wealthy family in Florence whose necklace this was? The youngest member and the one who's gonna inherite most of the fortune, he got his own interpol file."
"He's into illegal activities?"
"Yeah." The sound of pages rustling could be heard from the phone. "Seems like he caught our suspicion for art smuggling and being in contact with crime organisations all over the world, including East Asia."
Yoongi huffed. Of course, So he asked his gangster friends to hire some goons to retrieve his family jewels. "Thanks, pops, appreciate your help," he mumbled, ready to hang up when hearing Seokjin's chuckles from the other line.
"You know, if you think about going to Europe now to settle things.. I'll catch you."
He paused, a dry laugh leaving his lips. "Didn't you say you stepped down and are merely a paper-pusher now?"
"I did and I am, but that doesn't mean I won't get back to business if you guys get back to business."
Shaking his head, he huffed out a small laugh. "Don't worry, I'm not thinking about going anywhere."
"Hope so. Don't feel like leaving my wife trying catching you bunch."
Right, Jimin had mentioned Seokjin ending up marrying that woman Jimin had pushed onto him while trying escaping during the luxury cruise heist.
After they hung up, Yoongi's head hang low. Contemplating as concerns began crawling his mind. The type of concerns he usually successfully suppressed by meditating.
How was he supposed to explain anything of this to her?
Still, there was a small hope her grandfather hadn't actually been involved in the theft and ended up in possession of it in a different way. The wooden figurine perhaps being a lead to uncover the truth. It seemed like a signature and only a handful of thieves would use one that is so random and bold.
And there was someone who knew most of them thanks his own family affairs.
He unlocked his phone again, dialing a number.
"Hey, what's up?"
"Hey.." he paused when hearing his friend's cheery voice, "Have you heard of a thief that left wooden figurines back after a theft?"
Jimin audibly perked up at this, shuffling in his seat. "That rings a bell, I think. My grandpa, that geezer, was friends with one who had a foible of leaving stuff behind. I think during one period it was wooden animals."
Of course his grandfather as one of the most infamous thieves in the world, knew and was friends with other thieves as well. He shouldn't be surprised that Jimin probably knew some of them as well, despite him and his grandfather having had a complicated relationship and his father doing his best to keep him away from this kind of life. Unsuccessfully.
"And do you remember his name or what he looked like?"
His younger friend thought for a moment, trying remembering any details from his childhood. "Hm, not really. I only met this guy once. You know, I didn't like hanging out with my grandpa a lot."
Yoongi hummed, unsure whether to feel disappointed or not.
"Actually, there's one thing I remember. He was wearing a golden ruby ring on his pinky finger."
"Of course you remember that," he scoffed to which Jimin exclaimed in mock-offence, "Hey!" before chuckling as well. "Why are you even asking about my grandpa's old friend? Does it have anything to do with that necklace you showed me?"
This guy.. Taking a breath, Yoongi folded his lips. "I asked Seokjin about that necklace.."
"You called pops? What did he say?"
"The necklace was stolen from a rich italian family. And there's a chance your grandfather's friend was the one stealing it."
"Oh, okay." He paused, realisation hitting him. "Wait, and she got it from..?"
"Her grandpa."
"So you believe he was -"
"Yeah."
"Damn." A small silence followed before Jimin spoke up again with apprehension in his voice. "Look, if you need any help just tell me, alright?"
He smiled, of course he knew he could count on his friends. Although he also knew they had far more to lose than he did. "Thanks. I will," he lied with a rueful smile and hung up. Tossing the phone on the table when hearing delicate footsteps.
"I actually think when eating I don't think much either, but I guess eating while trying defending yourself is highly unlikely either." Soyeon's oblivious giggles faded when seeing Yoongi looking up at her over folded hands. His afflicted expression causing her face to instantly fall.
She walked up to him, tilting her head inquiringly.
"Is everything alright?"
He pursed his lips and straightened himself, letting his hands fall back down to his lap. "There's something I gotta ask you.."
She frowned, the tone of his voice sounding as if he was apologetic or even pitying her for something he knew but she didn't. And she didn't like that.
Slowly sinking, she took a seat beside him and he mindlessly grabbed her hand, caressing it softly with his thumb. In any other moment she'd have enjoyed that gesture, but not right now with the shift in the atmosphere.
"Did.. did your grandpa wear a golden ruby ring?"
Her eyes shot open at his unexpected question. "N-not these past years, but he used to."
He sighed deeply, feeling his heart sinking more. "And.. and did he wear it on his pinky finger?"
"How do you.. Yoongi, how do you know this? W-why are you asking this now?"
He softly squeezed her hand in his, glancing at her with the same sorrowful expression again. He wanted to prepare and comfort her at the same time. He hated it. This irony. How she'd got in trouble because of a thief, and how it'd driven her right into the arms of another one. Having to trust a thief to help her with what another thief had burdened her.
"My friend, the interpol agent called.."
He felt her hand curling into a fist. She inhaled sharply, looking him straight in the eyes.
"Don't leave anything out."
His lips parted at her determined expression. And he thought she was truly brave in that moment.
And so he told her everything. What Seokjin told him. What Jimin told him. Not leaving out any detail. Because she deserved to know everything, for once.
While he was narrating their conversations, Soyeon was just sitting there with a straight face. Staring into nothing in the distance. Making Yoongi almost believe she wasn't listening, as if her mind was somewhere else.
However, as soon as he finished, she looked at him again. And in the light of the afternoon sun he could see a single tear brimming from the corner of her eyes down to her cheek. Her voice small, almost inaudible. "I believed him and I were close.. I believed.. I knew him." She swallowed the lump in her throat and went silent.
Yoongi didn't say anything. Not only because he didn't know what to say to console her but also because he felt any words would be redudant. So he wiped the tear from her cheek and continued caressing the back of her hand with his thumb.
Her eyes fell down to their interwined hands and she sniveled.
"And you're sure about this.. about.."
"Everything points to it.. so it seems likely."
She nodded, pressing her lips together. "Then I should simply give it back, right?"
She looked up at him in anticipation, seeing his brows rising.
"You mean the necklace? Why-"
"Isn't that the most logical thing to do? He stole it from that family and they want it back. It wasn't his and certainly it's not mine, so giving it back should end this all, right? "
Her question sounding like a desperate plea.
He breathed out, brushing a streak away that had fallen into her pixie-face. "Soyeon, we don't know for sure these guys were indeed sent by that family. They could be after it for different reasons. And besides, they were ready to hurt you or even worse, for that thing. You think they'd let you walk away just like that?"
"W-why not? I didn't know it was stolen after all," she quietly said, the exhaustion having multiplied by now. She just wanted to be over with it. "If that's what they want, giving it to them should appease them. After all.. after all I don't want to keep something that belongs to someone else."
Yoongi wished it'd be as easy as she described it, but having already dealt with plenty of similar situation and similar people, he knew from experience that an encounter most likely wouldn't end up successful or even peaceful. These type of guys usually didn't want to leave any type of witnesses or wanted revenge - or both.
However, he didn't have the heart to tell her. He didn't want to scare her any further and moreover, she seemed so convinced. Perhaps it was that simple after all. No matter what, though, he wouldn't leave her side until it was indeed over.
"Alright, we can try it," he said, making her smile faintly as she wiped under her eyes.
"I'll go get it from the bank tomorrow." She paused, furrowing her brows as she conemplated. "But I need to go back to my rented place.."
His eyes widened in alert. "W-why?"
"For the key to the locker and my passport. I left both there," she sighed.
His jaw clenched, thinking about all the possible dangers if they went there. They could be lurking somewhere around, waiting for her to return after all.
"I can go fetch them."
"You won't find the key though, I hid it pretty well," she smiled sadly.
"Alright tomorrow we'll go together."
Soyeon shook her head, hesitating to speek out her thoughts. However, she had to. Her guilty conscious was pushing her to. "I think I should get them now so I can go to the bank first thing in the morning, right when it opens. And besides.." She nervously bit down on her lips, sensing his hand stiffening around hers. "The few things I own are all there and I feel like I overdid my stay here anyway. You don't know how thankful I'm for your help.." She tried her best to convey her honest and genuine feelings, hoping he wouldn't think she didn't like his company, because she did. More than he could ever know. However, this was her mess and she had to clean it up herself instead of dragging innocent people into it. And she also didn't feel comfortable with simply staying at his place like this. "I just feel like I'd impose on you. And I don't want that."
-Because I really like you.
Yoongi remained silent.
It was careless wanting to return there and even more to stay there all on her own, but he didn't want to seem pushy and forcing her to stay with him if she didn't want to.
"You know I don't mind you being here, it was my decision to bring you here in the first place," he said then. Trying a last time to convince her to stay.
"Yeah, because it was dangerous to return to my place and I didn't have anywhere else to go. You were just being nice and tried helping me." Her free hand wandered to his cheek, curling around it as she placed a peck on it.
He didn't agree at all, he wanted to object. He needed to, for her safety. "And it probably still is dangerous. They might be waiting for you there."
Smiling at his stern expression, she stood up. Pulling him with her as she tried to be positive. She had to. "We'll obviously first make sure they aren't!"
He sighed in defeat and let go of her hand, going silently to the practice room to get his sword in case they encountered a situation it was needed. And Soyeon could feel in the way his eyes weren't looking for hers anymore and his hands avoiding her, that he disapproved with her idea. Even if he tried his best not to make it this obvious.

With a heavy heart, he eventually drove her back to her apartment. Not able to say a word during the whole drive.
Before entering the building, he drove a few rounds around the block. Making sure there wasn't anyone suspicious waiting in a car or standing near the entrance and observing it. After deeming it safe enough, he parked nearby and accompanied her inside. Him walking ahead and entering the apartment first. Making sure it was clear, despite it being a quite small place and any intrudor would've been spotted by now.
Hearing her gasp behind him then when seeing the mess left in front of them. Scattered objects covering the floor along with pulled out drawers. "They really did a good job searching for it." She sighed, picking up a broken frame. She only hoped they didn't find the key and made connections. She had hid it pretty well, but who knew.
When heaving a cushion, she found her polaroid camera underneath and picked it up. Turning to Yoongi who was inspecting the other rooms.
"Say cheese!"
Confused, he spun around. Hearing a clicking followed by her giggles when lowering the camera. She pulled the candid photo out then, fanning it. "So I got a memento."
She smiled and for a moment he smiled as well, something inside him breaking at the thought she'd need it so he wouldn't completely fade from her memory in the future.
An orange object caught his attention then, his eyes spotting some tangerines spread around. He picked one up, scrunching his nose.
"My poor tangerines," he heard Soyeon frown behind him, also picking up one and unpeeling it. She plopped half of the fruit into her mouth then. A happy noise leaving her lips as she munched on it. Her brows rose then when she saw his amused expression, offering him the other half which he surprisingly accepted. Both eating their halfs in silence.
"I like tangerines."
"Me too."
They smiled.
Remembering something then, she turned around and rummaged in a drawer before pulling out something. And he recognised his shirt in her hands. The one he had put on her that night before sending her off to call police. He had almost forgotten about it and now she was holding it out to him, neatly folded in her palms.
"I washed it, don't worry," she grinned and he nodded, reaching out for it. "You didn't have to.." His fingers clutching around the material in her hands before heaving it and sliding it over his t-shirt. The scent of jasmin filling his nose. "..but thanks."
She gave him a simple nod, going back to checking around the place before he noticed the effect that shirt had on her.
She heaved her backpack, examining it. At least her passport and the rest of her few belongings were still in there and she put the rest of the tangerines inside. Meanwhile, Yoongi drew the curtains close, in case someone was watching from another building.
"Keep them closed, just in case," he mumbled and she hummed. He turned around then, avoiding looking her in the eyes as he made his way to the door. It'd only make it harder for him. "Alright, everything seems to be okay. If you want I can accompany you to the bank tomorrow.. or not. Whatever you want. But.. if you need anything, call me." He was was about to turn the doorknob before saying something more, something he'd regret when sensing her tucking on his arm. And he stopped in his tracks, glancing over his shoulders only to see Soyeon standing behind him with a sad smile.
"Won't you tell me goodnight at least?"
Yoongi breathed out, the gleam in her apologetic eyes making him forget his intent. Holding each other's gaze like in a trance, before he leaned in. His hands cupping her head as he placed a soft kiss on her forehead. Her eyes fluttering closed, her fingers wandering up to his wrists.
And again he managed making her mind go silent.
"Goodnight, Soyeon."
"Goodnight, Yoongi."
She didn't let go of his arm, though. Not immediately at least. Breathing deeply as the ache in her chest grew. His hands let go of her and he slipped through her finger as he turned around and opened the door. Stepping out, about to close it behind him when she finally realised what was happening and regretting it.
She didn't want him to leave. Not yet. Not like this.
"Actually -"
Her voice made him halt in his moves once again and he glanced over to her. His heart pounding when seeing her run her tongue over her lips while delibarating her next words.
"What if these guys show up after all?"
She didn't actually believe they would, no. So she hoped and prayed her eyes would be enough to convey her true intentions. The true meaning of her words, between the lines.
And Yoongi stood there for a moment, observing her intently. Her hopeful glare along with the glint of desire staring at him, the small pout on her kissable lips, and the way her chest was rising and falling by her quickening breath. Causing his own pulse to pick up.
It was a reasonable concern.
He couldn't possibly argue with that.
"Yeah, what if they do."
And with that he went right back to her. Kicking the door shut behind him. His arms wrapping around her smaller frame, feeling her hands on his jaw as he pressed his lips on hers.

Some HCs for Sammy Brody (Chase's kid) :3!!
(we're living under delusion here where everything is fine and nothing bad happened to anyone)
-currently Sammy is 9!
- Stacy is "Mam", Chase "Dad" and Henrik is "Pa"
-She uses she/her but hasn't thought about it so doesn't mind too much
-Super outdoorsy, she loves animals and the woods! (Stacy, Chase and Henrik have spent god knows how long trying to make sure she's safe while she's constantly running towards very not safe animals)
-She looks fairly similar to both Stacy and Chase, but most notably is that she got Stacy's hair and Chase's freckles
-She is probably what would be considered a "weird kid" with her lack of fear surrounding bugs and generally creepy stuff, while also leaning towards being a bit more stereotypically masculine (she does like ""girly"" things like dolls and sewing and shit- she just currently seems to present more masculine most of the time)
-She thinks of Jackie and Marvin as her uncles. Jackie is probably the throuples best babysitter (Marvin is not but he makes an exception for Sammy specifically because she drew him a nice picture and also told them that his hair is nice)
-practically begged to have her hair dyed "like mam's is" and Stacy had to painfully explain how she couldn't because of school rules- which led to a very genuine conversation about how school doesn't always have the best idea for every kid unfortunately
-they did make the promise that as soon as they left highschool their graduation gift would be to have their hair properly dyed
-Sammy absolutely adores all kinds of art and is always super excited when they find a new thing to do with art (Chase loves showing her concept art for his favourite games and Stacy loves showing her art such as nail design, tattoos fashion etc. Henrik takes her to art museums and galleries that have new art come in fairly regularly, there's one they always go too on the weekends for their kids interactive areas but Henrik always keeps an eye out for something she might like).
- like 99% of kids Sammy BEGGED for a pet. Except she really really wanted a pet tarantula. It took. A lot of convincing. But eventually they got her one (and much to everyone's surprise it's not as terrifying, especially when you have a 9 year old telling all the cool things about it)
- the tarantulas name is Jonathan btw. No one knows why but that's what Sammy insisted on.
- her favourite colour is purple and her favourite dinosaur is the Raptors (specifically the ones from the original Jurassic Park film)
- Chase (the absolute nerd he is) basically started showing her as many films he grew up with as soon as she was capable of seeing shapes basically. (This consists of everything between Jurassic Park, Alien, Indiana Jones, the original Star Wars Films, The Shining, etc) ((Chase Brody is a film nerd and I stand by that))
-Sammy also really likes animation! Her current favourite show is The Owl House and she relates to Luz a lot!!!
-She also loves Halloween! It's her favourite holiday! She isn't sure why her dad's seem upset around that time of year though, but Stacy takes her out trick or treating and she always has the best costumes!!!
That's all for now!! Might make another one of these for Stacy >:33

a get to know you better meme
I was tagged by @qserasera, what a surprise and kind of an honor, thank you
do you make your bed? No lol I sleep in a nest of blankets
what's your favourite number? My "favorite" I guess is 7, but "my" number has always been 4 so that's what I (usually) pick for everything. Sending 4 emojis, picking the fourth thing, etc.
what is your job? I teach metalsmithing (jewelry, not blacksmithing)
If you could go back to school would you? (smiling through tears) I'm still there (college) but no. I have regarded school as the house of the devil and a factory of suffering for many years now. I'm just trying to get my degree so I can get better jobs lol
can you parallel park? No, I don't like cars or driving so I don't partake.
a job you had that would surprise people? Idk, I think many people are often surprised by my current job, but other than that I don't think there is one.
do you think aliens are real? Yeah in a sense, like it's more likely than not that other lifeforms exist in the universe. But I don't think any have come to earth sadly :(
can you drive a manual car? See above lol. But my mom wanted to teach me once
what's your guilty pleasure? I try not to be ashamed of things I like but one thing I regard as a guilty pleasure is like, sometimes I listen to music that I don't think is very good but it's catchy and I just like it. Usually it's like new pop hits and stuff. I don't consider it to be representative of what I listen to and I don't play it around other people lol but yeah
tattoos? Yep, I have two, both done by myself when I was fifteen LOL... But I've been thinking about doing another one because I had another idea and I don't have money ha ha ha....also I just like doing it I like doing art who woulda thunk
favourite colour? I feel obligated to say red (and its associates) here since it's literally the only color I wear that isn't black...but it's just because that's kind of my brand. I like most colors, it would be easier for me to say which colors I don't like.
favourite type of music? I like all kinds of music, but the categories the music I listen to the most fall into is like, rock/metal (stuff with really nice guitars and drums), folk/indie, and electronic. I like music with good lyrics, and if it doesn't have good lyrics it has to sound good to me.
do you like puzzles? Does anyone not??
any phobias? I don't think so, just icked out by normal stuff like mold and spiders and stuff sometimes.
favourite childhood sport? I didn't get to do sports when I was a kid, that's why I do them now B-)
do you talk to yourself? Nope, and for a long time I was convinced that talking to yourself was just something that was done in movies and TV to show what a character was thinking. I didn't believe anyone actually talked to themself in real life, when no one is around. I also didn't talk/narrate my play as a kid if I was alone because well...I know what's happening, I know what my toys are saying, why do I need to speak it out loud? But I narrate my actions when I'm around other people, that's separate.
what movie(s) do you adore? I really like Peking Opera Blues, it's probably my favorite movie of all time...or at least my favorite live action movie. Also I like JCSS (the 1973 film), and as for animation, all the Cartoon Saloon movies, but especially Secret of Kells which pretty much shaped me as a person and Wolfwalkers which I've always kind of wanted to do like, an essay on but never got around to.
coffee or tea? I drink tea the most, I really never drink coffee but I like the taste. Just, caffeine makes me really shaky and sweaty and doesn't actually make me feel more alert so the drawbacks are not worth it most of the time.
first thing you wanted to be growing up? When I was in preschool I said I wanted to be a firefighter but that wasn't something I held onto long term. I don't think I really had a childhood dream occupation.
tagging @joelletwo, @versaphile, @treecakes, and @ladsofsorrow24 if you guys haven't done this already/want to do it

HI HELLO WOFE!!
For the questions game!
3, 7, 5, 12, 14, 20, 31, 35
-Clouds ☁️
HELLO WAIF!!! This got long cuz I can't shut up, so under the cut #_#
3 - 3 films you could watch for the rest of your life and not get bored of? OOOOkay! Interstellar, Titanic, and Your Name (although other equally strong contenders are the Avatar movies (james cameron), any Ghibli movie, and The Martian, which I remember you love too T^T Yay common movie!)
7 - what scares you the most and why? Forgetting. More than being forgotten, which doesn't really bother me, it's forgetting. Even if a portion of my life has been dark or bleak, there's been a lot of nice things to appreciate even then; I try to write it all down in a journal every day. I think life's value is really all the moments and memories that fill up over time; I'm scared of a day coming when I don't remember all the lovely things I've encountered in my life.
5 - what made you start your blog? Ahh... I've honestly been here a long time xD Since late 2013 or early 2014, I don't remember very well, but O L D. At first I just started one to post my graphic designing pieces, but then stayed for the fandom culture and very specific humour which made me feel at home. I've left now and then, but I've always come back.
12 - what’s some good advice you want to share? This is tricky, because I give myself advice, and don't follow it #_# But something that has helped me a lot is to see only the present moment as truly valuable, and to soak in every bit of that, in touch, taste, smell and seeing. That way you've lived that minute or that hour, fully, and even if you don't get to live the next, you can find some peace. Why I say it helped me is because I always fret about the future, about whether this or that will happen, etc, and this shut up all those unwanted anxieties. 'Now' matters. Tomorrow will come, but I'll deal with it when it comes.
14 - what’s something you’ve always wanted to do but maybe been to scared to do? I think... to live more spontaneously? XD I'm a planned/organized person, I need to see things on an agenda to breathe easy lmao. I envy people who can just live everyday spontaneously as it comes, without a care in the world.
20 - favourite things about the night? EVERYTHING!!!!! ALL OF IT!!!!! I love most the drop in temperature, the silence, the occasional owls and bats, and also the lights in the distance. I live in a suburb, and while the immediate vicinity isn't bustling with noise and is mostly covered with trees and wildnerness, I can see the city in the distance. I like watching the pinpricks of moving vehicles, and wondering where they're going and to whom. The best thing of course, is the night sky. I spend inordinate amounts of time studying the stars and constellations haha xD Still don't have a telescope to see Jupiter's moons, but! one day! soon!
31 - are you messy or organised? V E R Y organized. Though in times of stress, it devolves into organized chaos, but still organized. My phase of using colour coded memo pads and cute stationery has long gone (tho I still love cute stationery T^T), so I just keep things simple now. A list. Ticked off. Etc.
35 - do you trust easily? Yeah. I shouldn't, given some stupid shit that happened some years back, but I still do xD I like to believe people are good (which is strange considering I hate human interaction, but then I suppose it applies to people I form bonds with, like you!)
HAVE I EXPOSED MYSELF ENOUGH YET??? AM I STILL GOOD TO MARRY???

i’m a brunette and my hairstyle is like a shag/wolf cut, just really choppy and weird looking. i keep good hygiene but most of the time i look insane bc i have oily skin, bitten nails, hairy legs, messy hair, etc. i’m 5”2 and 11 stone, so i’m built like a goblin. i wear clothes that are baggy bc i find it comfy. my eyes are blue, like that miley cyrus staring meme blue, they’re intense and scare me.
hope this helps lmaoo idk what to write. thankyo!!

going insane here, doing something i've never done before, please don't hate me i know he could be considered divisive but john doe is an absolute sweetheart and i won't be told otherwise and he'd make an excellent friend/so
ok so short films and writing are such creative endeavours. he's never not trying to record his little ventures. i think he would love to indulge his creative side and make something with you. a documentary, a comedy, or even a horror film i bet
he's so caring and sweet, and so desperate to please the people he loves, so he'd be so understanding and gentle during a depressive episode
and in addition to that, he doesn't seem like an intense extrovert, more like he doesn't know volume control or societal norms, but he'd happily do the ordering in a restaurant for you. he'll be your "THEY SAID NO PICKLES" guy, albeit slightly more violent than you might have hoped for
he'd be so into a scruffy hair style, it would match his. he'd maybe suggest you dye it a neat colour, maybe purple, just to be equally colourful as he is, and also so people know at first glance you two are a couple... not possessive (maybe a little bit)
i think having someone who isn't like super high maintenance would be good for him. someone who is happy to be silly and chill and not constantly on the brink of a criminal meltdown. someone who doesn't take a super long time to get ready and can just go with the flow on a whim would be key in a relationship because he's such a whimsical little fella
and it's fine that your eyes are intense. he's intense. and he doesn't mean it so he'll understand. but getting to lose himself in your stare is exactly what he wants from a relationship. to lose all sense of himself in you because he wants that movie love

time to freaking escalate let's go
Talking about Cylas, Part I
General
Name (US): Cylas Keir | (DE): Larissa Siebert
Date of Birth: 10th of October | Zodiac Sign: Libra
Nationality: US American, German
Pronouns: She/They
Occupation: Nurse
Relationship status: Married to pizza
Tumblr media
Physical Appearance
Age: Middle to late 20s, but usually seen as younger
Eye colour: Blue-grey
Hair colour: Natural dark blonde, dyed dark blue | Style: straight, reaches middle of their back, no specific style. Tends to have it in a ponytail or braided in some way due to the temperatures,
Height: 5'3"
Build: A little chubby, stronger and more muscular than she looks
Distinguishing marks: Scars caused by pseudo-scientific "experiments regarding the human pain response and effects of psychologically taxing situations" (some might consider it torture). The most distinct would be a burn scar on the right side of their head and another one reaching from the top of right her shoulder to her collarbone. They aren't insecure about their scars though and aren't ashamed to wear revealing clothes. They also don't regularly shave and have been told they have "man legs".
Personality
Introvert or extrovert: More of an introvert although they like spending time with their friends. It just gets draining after some time and she needs to "recharge" afterward.
Morals: Ambiguous? She questions the exact meaning or "moral" in general and certainly does not agree with the societal consensus.
Temper: Despite her issues with regulating her emotions, she still manages to keep a calm appearance. However, that only leads to frustration and anger building up behind the facade. This means that her reactions to what- or whoever was unlucky enough to push her past her limit tend to be over the top. They have only seriously injured a person due to losing their composure once. Maybe twice, but that's up to one's definition.
How to set them off: Talking badly about her sister can be enough, being disrespectful or aggressive towards people she cares about in general will definitely get some kind of reaction, violence against animals or children.
Drives and motivations: On the positive side, they have a big need to help others. She has been called a hero or (guardian) angel before, and patients often refer to them as the 'happy and friendly' nurse or say how she is 'always smiling. On a more negative level, there is a lot of hate and frustration in her. Friends have (only half joking) said that she "runs on spite, determination, and more anger than their body knows what to do with". Both make them hard to kill though - they will push past what many consider possible to save someone's life, just as they will give everything to prevent death due to something or someone they consider "not worthy or deserving". They have a strange sense of pride when it comes to dying.
Spirituality: Doesn't mind people's beliefs as long as the individuals themselves don't harm anyone. She hates Christianisation and isn't too fond of Christianity in general, but doesn't think it is the single worst religion either. Absolutely despises cults and sects.
Favourites
Colour: Dark blue, purple, and red
Music: Anything, really, lyrics are important though. They aren't particularly fond of songs that have hard-to-understand lyrics or no "real" singing. They do like instrumental stuff too, though.
Food: Pizza
Beverage: Cola and hot chocolate
Tea or coffee?: Tea all the way. Leaf juice over bean juice. (German Joke Time: Wer hat es schwerer, Tee oder Kaffee? Kaffee, weil er darf sich absetzeen, Tee muss ziehen.)
Film genre: Horror, Fantasy
Film: V for Vendetta, Und weg bist du
Book genre: Fantasy, Thriller, Poetry
Animal: Snakes
Plant: Forget-me-nots and Weeping Willows
Habits
Do they drink alcohol?: Not really, only around people they really trust. She never gets drunk though (and hasn't before), drunk people make her uncomfortable.
Do they smoke?: No.
Any drugs?: Not voluntarily, aside from medication.
Sleep: As regular as working shifts makes it possible, they try to get their eight hours. Rarely dream. Not a light sleeper per se but they do seem to have a sense for when something is off.
Hobbies: Gardening (difficult with her job but she makes it work. Their garden is fairly small), baking, parkour, writing, martial arts, knife throwing, crafty and creative things. It varies based on whatever they feel like doing. Also, to the surprise of many due to her being German, she does like firearms.

on the pursuit of queer film
I think it's interesting that we decry a dearth of queer film generally when those movies do and have always existed and right now more than ever we have the tools to find and watch them
most of them are not mainstream, and of course a lot are going to be not good, as is the case for film generally, but there's also a separate post to make about what we define as "good" - do we mean easily palatable? do we mean "of a taste we've been raised on that's dictated by a mainstream culture of 20 or so white straight cis American dudes?" - some are almost impossible/completely impossible to find but
if I look at, say, this list on letterboxd for queer shorts there are over 1000 movies
or this list about lgbt woc with closing on 1000 movies
hell, I'm still early days in trying to curate some lists that have a little more direction, because I think it can be unhelpful to simply be thrown a list of 1000 movies with only "lgbt woc" in common, when what you're maybe looking for is, idk, coming-of-age movies, or movies that aren't about queer people in America/The UK, (of which someone else has a much longer list than mine, I still have a ways to go, but also I have a personal preference for movies sorted by release year and not fucking colour, I don't get why people on letterboxd do this, I want to watch things via release date!) or a documentary, or movies based on the lives of real people or what have you
I still have a watchlist of queer cinema that stretches into over 2000 movies that will likely never go down but only go up, and my curation isn't as refined yet as I want it to be but
the point is
we need to be supporting the making of movies like this by watching and talking about movies like this, and figuring out who's making/has been making these movies
engaging with these movies will give us a much better language for talking about queerness in visual storytelling, for creating a language that goes beyond heteronormative dictations of narrative and image and character and and and...
In engaging with these movies we realise this text has existed since... movies existed. We discover histories and communities we may not have known about, we create a connective language through the past, we don't consider ourselves isolated, we broaden our minds
I think people perhaps want to be pointed towards "these are the movies you have to watch" lists, and what I'm saying here is more complicated than that, yes. But communities of people documenting queer film also exist and we tend to be a nice bunch, I think, and beyond that if someone reaches out to someone looking for something -- especially in a time in which it's more than likely to know someone who's grown up anywhere in the world -- one can find treasure troves
I am continuously surprised by just how many beautiful films are out there that I've never heard about (literally only discovered the Filipino "Die Beautiful" through the wonderful @hunkydorkling I'd never consciously come across it before last week), never seen on approved "top 10 queer movies of all time" lists, never would have seen if I wasn't talking to people from all over the world
anyway here's a list of horror films written by, directed by, or featuring transgender, non binary, and genderqueer people (358 movies) which was curated by a person who also did a fascinating documentation of how horror has featured trans people throughout film history

Hi !
Just passing by to say that I really enjoy your writing! It's always so fun to read. I would like to read even more from you. Would you recommend any of your the other series you write for to me considering that I have read khr and bsd ?
Tumblr media
Aww, thank you so much dear!! That's so nice to hear and I'm so glad you enjoy it! And it flatters me so much that you want to read more of it!
Now, as for recommendations, I will say that every single fandom I write for is one that I would recommend. I write for each of them because I love them and honestly do think they're amazing, in terms of story or character, but there's also caveats to each of them! So I'm just going to do the reasons I think you should check them out and what I think are their downfalls that might make them not your particular thing, just in case anyone else was wondering the same thing!
K PROJECT is definitely a huge one on here, and chances are that if you liked BSD and KHR, you probably will like this one too. It has a pretty art style and a tendency, much like the others, to have very bishie characters and cool uses of powers. The story is solid the entire way through and honestly, everyone will be able to find a character in this large cast of them who they really do love. Add onto that that, for the most part, the K fandom is large for an older anime, and really a very, chill, accepting fandom. Drawbacks: There is more noticeable fanservice in regards to female characters. And it is a big one to get into - on top of a two season anime, there are films, light novels, manga spin-offs (and honestly, Memory of Red is such a love of mine, same with Days of Blue)...I'm not saying that you have to consume all the content, just that there is a lot of it out there, if you do tend to be someone who really does need to read/watch everything for a show you enjoy, and some of it is hard to find.
NANBAKA is one I dearly love. It starts off a lot like KHR did, as a gag comedy series with some action elements and, a lot like KHR, shifts itself into a shounen with comedic elements. Again, much like KHR and BSD, you'll find a cast of very bishie men, and I do like all the female characters introduced so far, who are all smartly written. Again, it's another story with a huge cast of characters, so there really is something for everyone. It's got two seasons of its anime, and the manga isn't wildly ahead of where it's last anime season stopped (though I've only read until 192, where my manga app stopped, though I recently got a source to read further, so I'm planning on doing that), and I do feel you get pretty much the same story either reading or watching. Drawbacks: The first three episodes for sure are a bit of a slog to get through unless you really like gag comedy. Much like the Daily Life Arc in KHR, it's mostly just introducing characters. At episode four, the story for the first season starts to really shape up, but episode seven is pure filler for the most part and always seems really disjointed to me. For episode eight onwards, I was hooked - so hooked I had to go read the manga for more. I will also say that it has a very unique art style and character design, with a lot of very bright colours used, so if a very soft, pretty art style is something you're after, this might not be your cuppa.
WELCOME TO DEMON SCHOOL, IRUMA-KUN! is a more recent fandom of mine but a great one. It's one where I watched the anime first and am now just reading the manga, so I'm warning that most of these opinions are based mostly on the anime, which is three seasons long, so a bit more of a commitment than some of my other fandoms. I don't know how to really explain it, but it has a really nostalgic feel to me. It takes me back to when One Piece, Naruto and Bleach were these major things in anime. I feel like Iruma really has that classic shounen feel to it in some ways. I feel like, if you like shounen overall as a genre, you're going to end up liking this show. Drawbacks: That being said, there are drawbacks. Again, it's a bigger commitment and I do feel like Iruma, the anime at least, does have some serious pacing issues at times. If you are someone sensitive to pacing in your stories and need the story to progress rapidly from one thing to the next, you might not enjoy this one so much.
SERVAMP is one that I do think any fans of KHR and BSD will like. It's got a similar art style, really cool uses of powers, interesting characters, and a solid story. Drawbacks: The anime ended while the manga continued. While the anime was a good adaption of the manga up to the point where the anime ended, it does have a different storyline near the ending, because they just didn't have more material to work with. So, while it's a short anime, easy to watch with only 12 episodes, and is a really good show on its own, I will write about characters as a manga reader, with all the new twists and turns and all the new characters introduced so you might find yourself lost on some things as a strictly only anime person, if you are one.
SAIYUKI has been such a long time fandom of mine. I read the manga, but I think the anime adaptions have mostly been fantastic, though they do censor quite a bit. The characters are insanely easy to connect with and love, the story is well thought out and paced well. You can watch the original starter anime on youtube here. Drawbacks: That being said, there are definite drawbacks. It is an older series, with the art reflecting that. And it's a huge series, with there being multiple parts to it - the original Saiyuki, Saiyuki Gaiden (exploring the character's past lives), Saiyuki Reload, Saiyuki Reload Bast, Saiyuki Ibun (a prequel that explores the story of an important side character)...and another, major drawback, is that, much like Hunter x Hunter for example, I really don't think that there's ever going to be a solid ending for this series.
MYSTIC MESSENGER has so many interesting characters, and unlike some other otome games, the story is so incredibly well-developed, thought through so well, and it really has a way of breaking your heart at moments, with some fantastic character development and story arcs. Drawbacks: It is an otome game, so you do have to like those, and I argue that it's an otome game that takes a shit-ton of commitment to play, more so than any other game I've played.
IKEMEN REVOLUTION has beautiful art, interesting characters, and some of the routes they came out with had such amazing storylines. You will definitely find a favourite character. Drawbacks: It's an otome game, so you do have to enjoy those. Some of the routes can be a little bland, and because it's not getting any new content, there's a chance the person who ends up being your favourite might not ever have a route (FUCKING GIVE ME A BLANC ROUTE!!!)
EYESHIELD 21 is, in my opinion, everything a sports series should be. There's interesting and complex characters, well developed character relationships, exciting moments, moments that break your heart, and you really, really grow connected to some of these characters so easily. It spoiled me on a lot of other sports series, honestly. Like KHR, it really undergoes a fantastic art evolution which is also really interesting to see. Drawbacks: It's a sports manga, so you have to like that sort of thing. Also, I say manga because, while it does have an anime, I do think the anime has to be one of the ugliest I've seen and they did my favourites so dirty.
THE OUTSIDERS is a novel I've loved since grade nine. I love the story, the characters and their relationships with each other, the dynamics between those who were born with privilege and those born in poverty. All around, a fantastically written book. Drawbacks: It's going to break your heart towards the end.
RONIN WARRIORS is a long, long, LONG time love of mine. It's cheesy, it's fun, it's got a good overall story and I love the characters to death. It's easy to find, with the series on YouTube here. Drawbacks: It is an old anime, with the art, voice acting, and animation style reflecting that. I also find that the anime took a bit to get going, and I honestly find myself rewatching the OVA's a lot more than the actual series. I love all three but Gaiden is my favourite, and I probably suggest trying the movie first to see if you connect with the characters, since it takes a lot less time.
KEKKAISHI info. Drawbacks: I really don't think you can get as good a story or as much of an impact without reading the manga, which does take a little bit to really get going. I do remember the first volume being really slow and a bit of a slog to get going, though it's a slog that is well worth it for the story you get in the end and the interesting, complex, realistic characters you get and the amazing powers and power systems you do find in it.
GETBACKERS is a really fun anime. It has these wonderful, fascinating characters with well-developed and interesting relationships among themselves. The story line is really solid and well-paced. The power system is really cool, and in the anime, the fanservice isn't too unbearable. Drawbacks: This is one where I honestly couldn't finish the manga because of the horrific amount of gratitutious fanservice on the part of their female characters, so I do recommend the anime, which can be found here on YouTube. I do warn that it is an older anime, and the art can lean that way at times, though I still personally enjoy it!
BLUSH BLUSH is my go-to relax and forget the world game. It is technically an otome game, though one with a lot of grinding elements and it doesn't really have too much in the way of actual character routes, having more of a general storyline and fun dialogue. Drawbacks: You really do have to enjoy those kinds of games, and some characters and things like the fully voiced DLC and the 18+ DLC that allows you to see the guys naked do cost actual money.
CLASS OF THE TITANS is a really fantastic Canadian cartoon. It's an older one, but I really don't think that impacts it negatively at all, since the art was really unique and well done, the animation still holds up, the characters themselves are wonderful. Also, for Greek mythology nerds, you'll have fun with this series! You can find the first season here! Drawbacks: Worst ending to the series and worst final arc I've ever seen, but that is just my own personal opinions and I know some people who loved it.
ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN is arguably one of my favourite superhero cartoons. It was done by Disney XD, with a fun art style, good voice acting talent, and the fact that it's set in high-school is a definite difference from a lot of the typical superhero cartoons and something that really did work in its favour. It's humorous, the characters are great and they each really do get their moment in the spotlight. Drawbacks: It is a cartoon, not an anime, and that might not appeal to some people, and it might be a bit difficult to find.
There are also some fandoms I love and would honestly love to write for and add to the fandom list on here, but that I'm not sure if there'd be any interest in, so I'm just going to briefly list them here!
DOGS: BULLETS & CARNAGE - fantastic manga, though definitely goes to some dark, dark places and if you're someone who can't really stomach things that are more on the seinen side, I definitely don't recommend viewing it.
BLACK CAT - It's a pretty solid anime, but I really do feel you get a much better story and a much better look at the characters in the manga. However, just watching, it's still really good but again, as with a lot of my other fandoms, this is very much an older one, so the art style does reflect that.
HUNTER X HUNTER - Both as an anime and as a manga, it's a fantastic story, full of fascinating, complex characters and is definitely a shounen classic for a reason. However, much like Saiyuki above, I really don't think we're ever going to get a proper ending for Hunter x Hunter, just my personal opinion, and that is something that might bother some people.
KARNEVAL - It's a really pretty show and manga. The art is gorgeous, and the story is interesting, though I feel some of the characters do fall a bit flat at times.
THE ROYAL TUTOR - Fantastic show, beautiful manga. You're going to find a favourite character with no issues, because they're all unique and charming. However, it can be a little too slice of life or non-action packed for your typical shounen fan.
GANGSTA. - Fantastic show but an amazing manga. That being said, much like Dogs: Bullets & Carnage, it goes into some dark places and does have some things that might go over the line for some people.
PSYCHO-PASS - I cannot say enough good things about this and if you liked the character designs in KHR, you'll likely love these. However, again, it definitely crosses some lines that people might not be able to handle.
THE MIGHTY DUCKS - I love them, but honestly, I'll admit - it's a set of three hockey movies from the 90's, made for kids, so I doubt anyone else still remembers and loves them.
THE COVENANT - Long live the Sons of Ipswich! This is just a really fun movie, full of really pretty guys and some good action scenes, an interesting premise, and it's one of my favourites but...it's corny as hell and I admit that.
DATE WARP is a fun otome game that doesn't take a long time to play, has an interesting story line, and some really, really great characters! However, it is an otome game, so you have to enjoy those, and the art isn't as polished as it is in some other otomes.
SEDUCE ME THE OTOME is another really great otome game, with a sequel game that really, really fleshed out the storyline and characters so well. However, again, it's an otome game so you have to enjoy those and the art is very unique compared to some of the art used in other fandoms.

Did you watch the Guy/Thomas scenes? Just wondering if it changed your opinion at all. I can't decide whether to watch them or if it'll upset me :(
I did. Under here for anyone still (somehow) dodging spoilers.
Tbh I quite liked some of the scenes themselves and the actors do a good job with the little they're given (although the colouring makes everyone look like Ross in The One With The Spray Tan Mishap, good luck gif makers). But I am still... sort of confused/uncomfortable about how ambiguously it's pitched? The music is doing a lot of heavy lifting to suggest the storyline is romantic but despite the likability of Guy in the other scenes, if I was at work and someone came into my office, sort of offered me a job and then felt me up, I would punch them. And I can't quite shake that feeling of not knowing what this is supposed to be: romance, work offer, some kind of job with benefits arrangement, or just sexual harassment Thomas is too weary to fight against or sees some kind of opportunity for escape in.
Regardless of what I think of the plot, I would like to be certain what the plot actually is, you know? If it's a romance, have Thomas kiss him and make it clear? If it's not, leave off with the workplace groping unless you're making a point about period-typical workplace groping? That Thomas himself seems confused about the nature of their relationship in the scene with Mary does not help and makes the whole thing come across like one big hedged bet, so if you're hoping for closure by watching the scenes or the film, you're probably not going to get it.
It feels to me like whether you're into this storyline for Thomas or not, you've got to bring a lot to it yourself in order to have it be satisfactory. To be sad for Thomas, you've got to imagine his feelings about leaving Downton and what happened with Richard because they're not really explored. To be pleased for Thomas, you've got to imagine him a future where this pans out somehow: his joy and hope is not on the screen. None of this is new for Thomas or indeed DA generally, of course, but JF has somehow pulled out of the bag a storyline that feels deeply indifferent to Thomas, which imo is the greatest injustice of all whatever your feelings about the content of this film. I can't tell you whether watching the scenes will upset you more or not because I watched them and I'm none the wiser myself.
And not to ramble off, here, but I actually think this touches on a wider problem for me with how JF sees and writes romance as an almost entirely social contract. He repeats the pattern over and over that romantic fulfilment is tied to moving up socially or becoming rich and will deus ex machina things out of his ass to make it happen. See: Edith could've had a perfectly nice romance with Bertie as an agent and continued the writing/editing career she enjoys and provided a counterpoint to Mary's life at Downton, but instead, out of nowhere Bertie is suddenly promoted to one of the most important people in the country despite it being in-verse unlikely and hinging on the death of a person we've never seen onscreen. See also: Molesley has always wanted to make something of himself and finds fulfilment as a teacher but that's not enough for JF, he has to suddenly become a screenwriter before he can be with Baxter, who would've happily married him when he was a delivery boy. There's this sense that meeting a person you love isn't enough: it has to come in a package of being whisked away to something JF considers better and more glamorous and that's nearly always oriented around money and viewed through a deeply classist lens.
Characters who don't follow this pattern tend to get shafted. See: Mary gets a whirlwind romance and a marriage with Henry, overlooking her reservations about his standing, and then he ghosts her on a fairly epic scale for two films and may as well not exist. See: Tom and Sybil marry, live a more ordinary life, and then Sybil dies. The Bateses start with the upgrade package: Bates gets left a house (by his presumably working class mother, but let's just handwave that) and so then they can marry, but the price for this is they will both go to prison for different murders, sexual violence, and a series of miscarriages.
The happiest relationships portrayed are the ones tied to financial or social gain on the part of one person, with Robert and Cora as the blueprint. I'm not saying these kinds of matches are unrealistic or ahistorical when it comes to the aristocracy, but the issue for me is that when you apply the same thinking to working class people, especially working class queer people, you're saying something completely different. You're saying: you don't get to be happy unless someone with more money and status chooses to pluck you out of your life. And with Thomas specifically, you're saying: discovering a community of queer men on your doorstep doesn't matter. Meeting someone from that community doesn't matter (because I do think we're supposed to read Richard as knowing about the existence of Turtons even if he's too circumspect to be a regular). Only proximity to glamour and money matter, making yourself complicit in the system that oppressed you is your only chance at any sort of freedom.
When you look at it like that, in JF world, Thomas could only have ended up with Richard if Richard was somehow revealed to have been a minor royal all along. Which JF couldn't do because he'd basically given that plot to Tom and Lucy.
As a working class queer, I have a massive problem with this underlying current that only social and/or financial climbing can bring contentment in relationships. It doesn't recognise that often part of queerness is seeing that all the systems, not just the ones about sexuality and gender, are complete bullshit. Which is a position and an understanding Thomas has espoused throughout. Guy hints at sharing this viewpoint with his 'don't call me sir' request (which Thomas rejects, incidentally), but his offer is written in such a wooly way that again, you have to do the work yourself to see it as a meeting of minds rather than a conditional, vague promise of enhanced freedom based on servitude and complicity in a bunch of bullshit systems. It just feels really... anti-queer to me, in a way that’s very little to do with how I feel about Guy as a character or even the decisions made around Richard, and far more to do with what the procession of disposable working class men (including Jimmy and Chris) says about the route to happiness and fulfilment presented.
Anyway this has become a dissertation so I'll stop. Whatever you decide, good luck anon and my inbox is always open for venting <3

Arcade Research Megapost
What do you mean? I didn't leave the biggest task till the evening before going back to college! I would NEVER do that!
Part 1 - High Score Games
Pacman - Besides Pong, this is the arcade game that defines the medium. Move around a maze, eat pellets, avoid ghosts, eat giant pellets, eat ghosts! From what I understand, once you hit a score of 256 the screen corrupts because of integer overflow or somesuch.
Flappy Bird - While it might have started in the app store, this one's been installed in more laser tag plazas and entertainment centres than I can count. You click to hop a little and maneuver your bird through pipes. I'd even call Flappy Bird a rage game, considering the pixel-perfect navigation you need sometimes. Though I can't fact-check this, I'm pretty sure you fight Mario at the end.
Arkanoid - I used to play this one pretty regularly around 2019, through the secret on Google. (Hint hint: go to the Google front page, search up "play breakout on google" and hit I'm Feeling Lucky). You control a little paddle, hitting a ball up at a wall of coloured bricks. The more you break, the faster your ball goes. You can change its direction by hitting it while moving your paddle the opposite way, and there's probably more maths to it I don't understand. All in all, it's quite fun, and I like how it looks graphically.
Part 2 - Shooter Games
Space Invaders - Here's another classic. A wall of aliens is coming down the screen at you; shoot them before they reach you and your small array of defensive positions. There's not much more to say about it; it's really simplistic, as are most of these games.
Time Crisis - This is a more technically advanced arcade game. The story is better conveyed here; you're some sort of secret agent, sent to a remote country (specifically an old castle) to rescue the daughter of a president. And you're up against a guy who loves knives. (Hold on, this is just RE4, isn't it?) I digress; movement is all done automatically, your character takes up tactical positions and you have to gun down the enemies as they come running at you. Graphically it's quite nice, reminds me of the original MGS. The "time" part of the title comes from the limited time you have to get through a stage, but it can be increased by completing setpieces.
House Of The Dead - I will be honest, I only know about this game because of the godawful Uwe Boll film adaptation. It's a light gun game similar to the last one, but this takes on a horror focus. You're storming a zombie-infested mansion, blasting the undead apart with a hand-cannon. Already I can see improvements from the other rail shooter; you can blow chunks out of your enemies and there's a greater narrative focus with cutscene-like events happening as you play through the missions. I guess the easiest way to phrase it for myself is: if Time Crisis was Duke Nukem, this is Half Life.
Part 3 - Racing Games
Sega Rally 3 - This seems like your basic arcade racer; go in a circle while competing against AI cars. There's not much to set it apart from any other racing games. It controls with a steering wheel, like you'd expect from an arcade game of its genre. I guess you could think of those as the predecessor to driving rigs.
NFS Heat Takedown - On a basal level, this is just another racing game, but it has some improvements from the other one I covered. For one, it looks a whole lot nicer graphically, the announcer has way more personality, there's the nitrous speed-boost mechanic that's commonplace in a lot of racing games now, and you can eliminate other cars from the race by smashing into them, hence the name.
Fast and Furious - I don't have much to say about this one; it's more of the same. However, it is multiplayer, as far as I can tell. One thing I find a little funny is that while it tries to be a hardcore racing game, the players are seated in the most comically undersized, cartoonish, plasticky, RGB gaming keyboard looking, weird proportion having, recumbent bike resembling, unnecessary brake-light bearing, questionably-fitting engine noise making, seat jiggling, self-advertising, internal-combustion contraptions to ever exist.
Part 4 - Fighting Games
Street Fighter - This one I simply had to include. It wouldn't be right otherwise. It's a basic two-player fighting game. There are lots of interesting characters, each with their own fighting style, though some are outright broken. I'm mostly referring to E. Honda, and the fact that he can use his grabby-hands attack while moving. I'm pretty sure Street Fighter was the first of its ilk, which made it pretty unique back then.
Mortal Kombat - I didn't initially think this was an arcade game, but as it turns out, Midway released this pixelated gore-fest on arcade machines first. And the gore really is the main selling point of the game; there's a story about demon-kings travelling between the realms and stuff, but it's not important. From what I understand, most of the fighters were just employees, digitized into the game. The gore is pretty tame compared to today's standards, but I like the edgy and over-the-top approximation of what was considered taboo back then. The kinda blurry edges of character sprites adds to the charm, I think. The later games are weird, with questionable "babyfication" age-regression finishers that seem out of place.
Tekken - Out of the 'big three' of fighter games, this is one I never really knew much about. The main difference is its 3D aspect, with the camera angle changing when you suplex a guy. Interestingly, the camera tracks the characters as they move across the map, something that was definitely missing in the more static, cramped fighting games of yore.
Part 5 - Brawlers/Beat-em-ups
Final Fight - In this game, you're cleaning up the city of gangsters by beating up any in your path, along with beating up the city. You can smash into phone boxes, bins, and anything else to reduce it to scrap metal. Gangsters from the gang "Mad Gear" emerge from houses, walking single-file into your swinging fists. It looks pretty fun, but nothing special. Apparently it couldn't be played in North America. All in all, it seems pretty evocative of the genre; big burly men smashing everything in their path, beating off gangsters and barrels alike, and pounding thugs with postboxes till they explode in your hands.
Captain Commando - This is basically the same game as the above, just in a future setting. It even takes place in the same city. The catch this time is that you're fighting Super Criminals, that are far more powerful than your average unarmed mook. You're still banging out goons and busting crime bosses, just in the future.
Alien Storm - I decided to go for an obscure one for my final entry to this section. Earth is invaded by a swarm of aliens and it's up to a team of hotdog-vendors-turned-commandos to kill them. The various characters use flamethrowers, rocket launchers, and one of the playable characters, a little robot, explodes itself kamikaze-style. The aliens are interesting, Carpenter-esque amalgams of flesh and faces, ranging from gross spiders to snails who disguise themselves under bins and such.
Part ? - Interactive Games
I don't know what this means. Aren't all arcade games interactive? I searched up "interactive arcade games" and got nothing of note.

FILM REVIEW: Five Nights at Freddy's (2023)
As a FNAF fan, this film finally getting released made my year. A comfy night me and my little brother spent using the movie tickets I won at a coffee cart raffle, eating candy and popcorn and then having Thai takeout to wrap the night up. A nostalgia trip for both of us.
WARNINGS FOR: heavy plot spoilers for the film and original games, mentions and descriptions of gore, child death, child abuse (physical) and blood
POSITIVES
And that's really what this movie is, a nostalgia trip. Because I want to make one thing clear. If you haven't seen anything about FNAF, especially the silver eyes trilogy of novels, you probably aren't going to enjoy the film. If you only know fanon information and nothing about the canonical lore you probably aren't going to enjoy this film either... that's two things (/ref).
The final 'twist' isn't well set up because that's not what they were trying to do. From the very start a FNAF fan knows that 'Steve Raglan' (played by THE Matthew Lillard! One of two original Ghostface killers!) is absolutely William Afton. The final fight is just fan service for us fans and not a well plotted, set up reveal. What's the point of it? Acting as if we don't already know?
The choice to make the characters like Mike, Abby, Garrett, the missing children, Vanessa, etc parallels of existing characters in the FNAF universe instead of new people or exact adaptations is something I actually liked as well. I've heard some people are confused about it or just don't like it but a lot of that comes from expectations before the film released.
A LOT of people had it in their heads that the movie was going to be some hardcore jumpscare and gore-fest because "FNAF is so dark!" when... let's be real here. The darkness of FNAF has always come from lore behind the games and not visual representations of it. The closest we've ever really gotten to gore is some red pixels during one of the FNAF 3 minigames depicting William Afton's death in the springlock suit.
It's 2023 we can like kids horror either out of nostalgia or genuinely thinking it's good. Plenty of adults like Goosebumps and whatever. This movie was never going to be an R16-R18 horror. Imagine cutting off a good 3 years of your fanbase for 'accuracy' that isn't even accurate! Knowing how trapped and lost the missing children are after having their lives cut so short by such a selfish monster is already dark and way more accurate to how the games handled the lore.
It probably doesn't help that Scott helped work on the film and considering he's a devout anti-abortion, donating to homophobic politicians in secret Christian I doubt he would've been okay pushing the gore too far.
If anything, the lighthearted tone touching on the missing children still being actual children and not just murder machines makes the few gore and blood scenes even more shocking. The aunt's team of vandals getting attacked, the babysitter getting CUT IN HALF and the springlock scene at the end of the film are all good at raising the tension in such a colourful environment focusing on a family focused story.
CRITICISMS
The only two things I could criticize are:
1) Elizabeth Lail's acting. As Vanessa, she's noticeably more... exaggerated than her other cast members who all try to come off as realistic as they can for their characters. And not in a Renfield or Jack Griffin type of way where they're just purposefully odd or straight up nuts compared to everyone else. Just some of her line deliveries are a bit 'off' or even a little cringy? It's not that big of an issue and you don't notice it most of the time but I thought I'd mention it.
2) The lack of context for Vanessa and William's father-daughter relationship. It's heavily implied that William abused Vanessa as a child. Seeing how he behaves around her even as an adult, treating her less like a person and more of a tool or a verbal punching bag and with his track record with his kids in other universes (slapping daughters and gassing sons with hallucinogenic gas really doesn't get you father of the year) and the fact he gave a dead kids toy to his own kid as some fucked up 'trophy', it's pretty obvious.
But we really don't get any deeper context for her behaviour during the film specifically. Vanessa constantly lies and hides information in the film and it comes off as very, very annoying for a while. We can see by the end that William put that behaviour in her as a child so he wouldn't be caught murdering kids because his daughter told people what he was doing. But we never get to see much of this other than the brief confrontation at the final fight so it's harder to sympathize with her almost getting Abby killed. The movie's pacing is good so I think they could've pushed a few extra scenes in with her and William without slowing anything down. We all knew who he was anyway and they didn't have to reveal she was his daughter before the end because in the games she's already a brainwashed follower of his ideals.
WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS MOVIE?
Yes! It's fun, colourful and good for people who don't like non-stop nasties for a movie night but are still interested in something tense. Just don't expect to love it nearly as much if you know nothing about FNAF or the canon lore ("why is Cassidy not a girl?" "why is Cassidy blonde?" tiktok comments are starting to get to me)
A fun watch for fans and light horror fans :)

Must watch fall movies and shows
Hi everyone! Welcome back to another blog where I have the chance to talk about our current season, autumn! Today, I want to touch on movies and shows that either I or my family like to watch annually during this time of the year. So without further ado, here's my opinion on what you should be watching during this fall...
Starting off with one that might be controversial, the 'Twilight' saga. If you have seen it before, you know it's definitely on the cheesy side, which for some might be a no, thank you. But although this may be true, I continue to rewatch all the movies around this time of the year. The vampires, the wolves and overall eerie vibe of the set make it perfect for the fall.
Tumblr media
Moving on, arguably one of the best rom-coms, 'When Harry met Sally'. Throughout this film, the leaves are changing colours into the browns, reds, oranges and yellows we all love. This movie isn't specifically fall related, but I definitely think the vibe and aesthetic of this whole movie fits the autumn characteristics. Plus, it's a must-watch for everyone at least once in their lives.
Tumblr media
Next up, two short watches with the same characters, these remind me so much of my childhood as my family gathers to watch these classics every fall. The first special would be 'A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving', this nostalgic little episode is the perfect thing to throw on the TV with everyone this season. It's so cute and one of my all-time favourites from the Peanuts collection. Second of all, 'It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown' is the Halloween version of these shorts. This is definitely a fan favourite and includes some of the most recognizable scenes. Such as when the group goes trick-or-treating and Charlie Brown says "I got a rock.". These two Peanuts specials both include, so many fall aspects like the colours, football, Halloween, pumpkins and more. Perfect for a stay at home fall evening!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lastly, I want to talk about my favourite series ever, Gilmore Girls. Beginning with it's famous intro to every episode, there's beautiful fall colours and vibes before every episode. However, the entire series goes through all the seasons throughout the main characters lives, so not entirely including fall throughout the episodes themselves. But, I want to highlight some of my favourite episodes that occur during autumn.
'Ted Koppel's Big Night Out' - This episode takes place at a college football game, and everyone knows autumn is football season. Everyone is wrapped up in Yale sweaters and warm accessories, the coziest fall vibe.
'A Deep-Fried Korean Thanksgiving' - You could probably assume that this episode is centred around Thanksgiving. One of the main characters, Rory's best friend, is a Korean girl named Lane. Lane's mom hosts a Thanksgiving dinner outside for everyone and this is probably one of the most fall coloured episodes, better yet, most of the big scenes happen outdoors.
'Kiss and Tell' - Leaves are turning, pumpkins are everywhere and the small town in the series of Stars Hollow is having their annual Autumn Festival. You can probably already assume what this one is about as everyone attends this town wide festival covered in perfect fall decorations and festivities.
Tumblr media
In my opinion, these are some of the best movies/TV shows with the fall aesthetic. I consider these must-watches during this season, and I highly recommend you give at least one a try!

Welcome to Sin Rambles About Something Bizarre because I went down a very interesting rabbit hole last night about Swords, namely the Holy Moonlight Sword.
I'll open with this question; have you ever wondered why the sword is green in its transformed state? I'll admit, this probably doesn't seem like something worth questioning in the grand scheme of things, though the fact a moonlight themed sword was represented with teal-green always stood out to me as being quite novel. Even so, the ethereal vibe such a weapon demanded was still efficiently imparted, so I didn't really dwell on it beyond that.
That is, until I saw this bronze sword and its unusual green hue which instantly conjured up some potent imagery of the HMS for me.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It goes without saying this sword isn't supposed to be green-we have the build up of verdigris on the bronze to thank for that much, but the colour of verdigris, especially in concentrated amounts, is a particularly striking one; so much so indeed that it has been used since antiquity as an actual pigment for artistic use. But what's most striking and most delightful about it to me is how much these (very pretty) verdrigris-coated swords resemble the HMS.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, obviously I'm not trying to imply that the HMS is just an antiquated sword that has a poisonous film of pretty crystals on it- especially when the sword in the story's context is obviously arcane in nature and can change form and colour at the wielder's will. But it did get the thought going of whether there was some merit to the idea that maybe the metal the HMS was made of has any signficance. Namely, if it could contain bronze, and why that would be thematically and mechanically significant.
Metals are in fact given some considerable spotlight and importance in Bloodborne's lore, after all. In the descriptions for items from the Old Hunter set and the Decorative Old Hunter set, we are treated to the following insights:
"Old hunter garb decorated with brass trinkets."
"Old hunter gauntlets made of brass to protect their weapon-bearing hands. At the time, some hunters believed certain metals would guard off beast blood."
So, brass was widely considered to be effective at warding off the beastly scourge and the infected blood in the days of the old hunters. We can see echoes of this superstition remain even during the events of the player's journey through Yharnam, given metal plates are still prominently featured in the classic hunter gear on the boots and gloves. The executioner's garb also features a considerable amount of brass rivets on its respective gauntlets.
But the phrasing here implies there were multiple metals that were held in a similar regard besides just brass. In which case, it's not too much of a stretch to imagine that bronze might be among them, and in particular, this might correlate to the material that the HMS is (at least partially) constructed from.
Pursuing that train of thought, I went diving for some historical and religious accounts of the use and importance of bronze throughout the years, and I was not disappointed with what I found.
Firstly, bronze has a surprising amount of religious importance and symbolism, being mentioned numerous times in biblical passages and almost always in association with God, his quarters and the deliverance of divine justice. Bronze is described and thought of as a "wall between the individual wielding it and the corruption of the material world"; this is a very striking statement given the HMS is what brings clarity back to Ludwig even at his most bestial and inhuman state-it restores his sense of humanity to him, severing him from his beastly corruption at least in spirit if not in body.
Furthermore, specifically in Revelations: 218, a double edged bronze sword is described as being a "symbol of the word of God" and his ability to pass judgement and mete out divine punishment. Broadly speaking, bronze in biblical context is a recurring symbol of strength, justice, resilience and purification, as well as of judgement and punishment. All remarkably fitting themes for our favourite sword and its wielder, if you ask me, as his story hits upon each of them to a T.
Whats more, bronze is traditionally used in the making of bells due to its desirable properties, like the hardness of the metal and the quality of sound and resonance that it is able to produce. Bells made of bronze are meant to be more durable and create a clearer, stronger tone. It's still used even to this day for church bells and hand-tuned bells.
I find this tidbit quite interesting given bells are another iconic staple in the world of Bloodborne. I think its a safe assumption that the bells we are all familiar with, such as our summoning and beckoning items, are probably made of bronze with this fact in mind. The artwork even features that signature verdigris colour on some of the bells you can collect!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The fact that bronze is prized as a bell-making material for its potent resonance and sound also ties well with the themes and uses of bells in Bloodborne; these items are meant to cast out a chime that can be heard across space and time itself, used as a tool to connect to and cross over to other realms, or summon things from them to our own. In the more superantural context of Bloodborne's universe, where metals are assigned and demonstrate more superstitious/arcane properties, the logical through-line would be that bronze in this world is a potent channel for the arcane-namely the sort of magic concerned with summoning and communicating with other worlds or otherworldly entities.
Meanwhile, the Holy Moonlight Sword is a literal arcane powerhouse of a weapon imbued with the power of the cosmos that even potentially was "speaking" to Ludwig-or rather, something was using the sword to communicate with him. He famously addresses the sword as his mentor, his guiding moonlight, and whatever was speaking to him from within it or through it even bestowed upon him (or transcribed for him) the Guidance rune. Needless to say, something was certainly using Ludwig's signature sword to make contact with him.
The English description of the sword reads: "When blue moonlight dances around the sword, it channels the abyssal cosmos." So-a sword that can channel the cosmos, paired with bells that can echo across the cosmos to contact other worlds. The sword is quite possibly not entirely dissimilar to the bells in that regard-it opens a channel to another world, or at the very least draws power from it, but through that channel, another entity is able to make contact with the wielder.
Interestingly, whenever the wielder wishes to transform the blade, they must pass their hand over its length which then causes the blade to resonate with a chime-like tone, and the flush of arcane light swiftly follows. Perhaps the sound that resonates from the blade, much like the resonance of a hunter's bells, is what truly summons the Holy Moonlight Sword's Arcane power and facilitates contact with the cosmos. I'll admit relying on a basic animation for this theory is potentially a logical leap though, especially given we are told moonlight is what activates the sword-but I find the implication and correlation an intriguing one all the same!
Tumblr media
But I digress. If the HMS was indeed bronze, or an alloy of bronze such as silver-toned White Bronze which contained much of the same metals in its composition, then this trait could match up well with the communicative properties of bronze bells in the Bloodborne universe. The sword is made of a metal that allows it to behave as a literal conduit through which the cosmos is able to channel its power, and through which powerful unseen entities are able to make their voices heard. That the sword was found in Isz makes even greater sense with that in mind, as Isz of course is the realm most strongly connected to the kin, the cosmos and the arcane, as well as Daughter of the Cosmos herself, Ebrietas.
