Taurus pets are extremely laid back. They love food to the point they’ll always check whatever you offer them out even if they’re not hungry or in the mood. They love to take regular naps! They appreciate affection but only when they’re in the mood. They can also be shy & don’t like be shown off to strangers. Loud noises and chaos stress them out so they need a peaceful environment.

I had a Taurus dog that was terrified of thunderstorms & lawn mowers. Even the noise of the builders 2 doors down was enough to force him out of his element.

Gemini pets can get moody. They can be passive and agreesive, have their good and bad days, sometimes they are outgoing, sometimes they’ll be reserved and distant. They are a quick learner as they are quite smart. They prefer to form a bond with more than one person rather than following the “ownership” dynamic. These pets are prone to separation anxiety/nervousness, they can be indecisive in their eating habits, love going for walks and are affectionate. They also love social environments and being spoken to.

Cancer pets are loving and may need continuous attention and reassurance. They are such sweet pets, very sensitive. They like to comfort eat & can become overweight/unhealthy easily. They make friends with other pets, as if they were a companion to them also. Moving home or visiting new and unfamiliar places can make these pets uncomfortable and a lil annoyed with you - They may not seem like themselves for a while until they settle in or get over it.

Leo pets have a pride about them, they’re warm, generous and the most loyal pets out there. They have energy to burn and will always be up for an outdoor adventure (their favourite!!) They require structure, because without it they will take advantage of everyone and everything they come in contact with. These pets would benefit from daily exercise/activity to relieve stress and built up tension (dog: walks, bird: let out of cage, cat: backyard time, toys). These pets love being groomed and in your company. They know what’s bad company and don’t forget when they’re wronged, they may make it known when they dislike someone.

Sagittarius pets love a challenge. These pets have such a happy go lucky vibe to them, they’re very outgoing and kind. They radiate positivity, maybe even with a visible smile on their face. These pets have a tendency to be picked on by other pets, so keep an eye on them. They believe you’re their one true love and will adore your affection. They are very loyal and will want to be with you at all times, this sometimes turns into separation anxiety with some Sagittarius pets. They love to have another companion in the house, they like company so the more pets the merrier for them.

big huge alien sophant species

the secondchildren are a deeply enigmatic species of plasma-based energy creatures. their existence is colonial, and their bodies consist of thousands of different conciousnesses acting as a singular entity. these bodies often exist in a state of energetic flux, but by sharing strong memetic energy, each component of a secondchild can carry memories and experiences for an incredibly long time. for this reason, they're largely seen as functionally immortal. secondchildren are known for their high latent will energy, their advanced useage of will-energy technology, and their incredibly elusive and nonsensical nature. much of the will=energy technology used in my setting was developed by secondchildren.

the e-kuri are an incredibly hardy species living on a massive cold moon. the pressure on this moon is so immense that their carbon outer shell has flakings of pure diamond in it. and because of this, they are known for their incredible strength and speed in lower pressure environments. on-moon, they're grazers feeding off of small creatures which live in little holes, using their long tongues and fanlike limbs to disturb potential prey. societally, they have little interest in astrotravel and largely mind their own business - they're not very social. a long time ago, it was posed that their incredible strength could be used as a sort of biological generator if harnessed, but the morality of this idea was very questionable. their underside is soft and fluffy.

the fleu are an incredibly rare species of deep-sea creatures living under the thick ice ocean of a starless planet. their numbers are in the thousands, and they take an incredibly long time to reach maturity. very little is known about them due to this. any attempts at contact has largely been met with aggression, but its generally agreed on that fleu have complicated and intricate technology, even if the purpose and form of such technology largely remains a mystery.

the large blue form of a secret senmin is actually a sort of external flying lung, their "true body" is the colorful protusion at the top there. the lung is used to float freely through the thick atmosphere of the several large gas giants they call home. they communicate through rapid electric color changing and quivering of the various "limbs" of this body. they're known for being intelligent, curious, and very social, and they've figured out a way to store enough food and energy to traverse small sections of atmosphereless space without use of large ships.

magma lovers live in magma, as their names suggest. their bodies are protected by a thick glass layer over a metallic shell. even less is known about them due to the hostility of their living conditions to other types of life. it's known that they live in some sort of structured society, though.

oo3o and onri-semphimin are similar in that the largest political institutions of both species are ICDCI members, and therefore they're pretty common to see in multi-species living areas. o-s'es are semiaquatic, while oo3os are entirely aquatic, living near the surface. oo3o are a largely asocial species with communities largely just consisting of a few individuals, and they're talented builders. they've developed all sorts of "airwalking" suits to travel onto land and isolate themselves further. meanwhile, o-s'es are very social and live in extremely large colonies. They're adepts at terraforming.

e-bupp are metal worms that live in a sort of puddinglike-texture "oceans" on the same moon that e-kuri originate from. these strange oceans are actually the focus of much of the biodiversity on this moon, and e-bupp have taken on a sort of parental role towards the younger (in species terms) and less technologically adept e-kuri. e-bupp attempted astral travel, but the logistics of it made it more trouble than it was worth.

Halcyon Druid (Druid Archetype)

Easily one of my favorite goodly organizations in the Lost Omens setting is the Magaambya school of magic. Founded by the man who singlehandedly saved arcane magic for humanity, Oldmage Jatembe’s school of magic is the very picture of a place where the mystic arts are paired together with a righteous code of ethics and goodness.

But that isn’t the only thing that is combined there in that sacred institute, for the school is also famous for blending the arcane and divine, with many of it’s mages being able to cast druidic primal magics in addition to their arcane arts.

However, Magaambya does not merely teach the arcane arts with a smattering of the divine, they actually teach all manner of disciplines, so it only makes sense that there would also be druids that learn a bit of the arcane.

These so-called halcyon druids not only learn a few arcane spells, but they also do something very atypical for primal mages: they seek out contact with outsiders of the outer sphere, particularly celestials, and especially the animal-like agathions!

The only other druid archetype I can think of that deals with non-elemental outsiders regularly is the planar extremist, and that’s the ex-druid archetype representing those that have gone too far away from their roots and become servants of the planes rather than nature, so in order to truck with such beings while still being true druids, these mystics must be doing something very right compared to others.

As we will soon see, these mystics gain a mixture of powerful abilities from their primal, arcane, and divine sources.

Rather than form a bond to an aspect of nature or a companion, these druids instead bond with their mask, which then functions similar to a wizard’s bonded item, and can be similarly enchanted.

They are also trained diplomats, all the better to go between villages and nations to forge new bonds of cooperation and kinship.

In keeping with the blending of magical traditions, these mages can spontaneously cast spells associated with the cleric domain of Good instead of summoning allies.

They also learn a handful of spells exclusive to the arcane arts, diversifying their magecraft further.

As agents of good, these mages are especially resistant to the depredations of fiendish foes.

Finally, these mystics gain the ability to shapeshift into a form of celestial outsider based on their mask. While this is not a true outsider polymorph effect, it has the limited ability to mimic some of the iconic abilities of the major celestial types, such as the aura of menace seen in archons.

This archetype is interesting. It gets rid of wild shape and the nature bond, but replaces them with surprising spell versatility and their very own bonded item, as well as making them experts in social areas. These changes mean that you’re pretty much limited to being a back line spellcaster unless you utilize lots of buffs or use the celestial transformation from your mid-levels, but it still can be rewarding to play.

Interestingly, this archetype mentions that some members of this order wear masks resembling fiends rather than celestials, though those that do are probably more akin to gargoyles, acting as representatives of what evil looks like rather than being evil themselves. However, there is always the possibility of perhaps some disgruntled ex-student actually making pacts with fiends.

Ogwe the Crocodile is especially daring among his kin, but that boldness has led to surprising alliances in the past. Now the druid seeks perhaps his most shocking diplomatic endeavor yet: delving into the earth beneath the region to meet with a mighty vault builder, one of the legendary xiomorns, to secure peaceful relations.

Though sometimes mistaken for a rakshasa, Veldikas is every bit a mystical dilletante and social navigator. However, his true loyalties always lie with the natural world, and the fanglord beastkin wears the face of the tiger both in and out of his sacred mask, especially when the time comes to act.

For generations, the angelic mask of her ancestor has watched over Kifi’s home, protecting it. Turns out this was more than superstition, for the day the mask was stolen, her village was attacked. Though she managed to get the mask back, she discovered a divine spirit dwelling within, one that urges her to seek out the mentor that trained their ancestor so long ago.

The legal vexations of such amphibious and obtuse terrain become pronounced in sea-rights cases, wherein border-making becomes the necessity of tenure. Forming rulings over such zones lays legality prone to paradox. In the intertidal and interpenetrating zone of the mangrove, the border between land and sea becomes a choreography of re-crossings. The mangrove line is, hence, one of sedimentary reclamation rather than clear political divisions of terra firma. In mangrove zones, human determinations become ghosts.

I think it is often difficult for readers to get a sense of the scales under discussion when we talk about wider interstellar history. The truth is, galactic "civilization," if I may use that term for the very different species that are more or less involved in diplomacy and exchange with one another, is both very old and very young. It is old in the sense that many different generations of species have come and gone on the galactic stage. The Helvetiosans and Chalawani, for example, are distantly related members of the Delta Pavonis clade, which itself originates from a region of space at least a thousand light-years rimward of the Local Sector. Genetic reconstructions date the clade to at least 25,000 YBP. Archeology and sources like the Helvetiosan mythohistoric cycles indicate several phases of expansion and decline across that period, which have left behind many inhabited worlds with unique features shared only by Pavonid offshoots. The Titawinese species in around 6,000 years old, and, because they were directly created by the Saffarid Progenitor Civilization, they have a continuous and complete historical record from that time, which details early sublight exploration of their stellar neighborhood and first contact with numerous neighboring species. To us, these seem like quite long stretches of time. And they are, especially against a human lifetime. We stared up at the sky in stupefied ignorance while the Titawinese were exploring deep space. And from the other view, there is a vast expanse of time in the history of the galaxy of which we know nothing. The ruins of the outer moons of Edasich may be as old as forty thousand years; their builders are unknown. The Great Wreck of Moriah is nearly a hundred thousand years old. And then there is the Sagarmathid Gravitational Anomaly may be an artificial structure that is four hundred million years old.

Wolfling species like our own--those without any spacefaring ancestry--are in a peculiar position. We tend at once to be rather old and rather young. The first Osmians appeared ninety thousand years ago; the first Osmians to leave their homeworld did so aboard human ships, about two hundred years ago. The progenitors of the human clade are possibly two and a half million years old, older than any other sentient clade we have encountered, though we only achieved anything like our current form two to three hundred thousand years ago. It is for that reason that the Chalawani sometimes call us the Eldest, or the Stargazers. But by interstellar standards we exhibited a curious stasis for countless generations, while far away mighty empires rose and fell; even once we had definitely attained behavioral modernity by fifty thousand years ago, we continued to live a curiously complacent lifestyle, until in a feverish rush we sprang from the first cities to the warp drive in a single 6,000 year leap. Thus the Helvetosians call us the Newcomers, and the Intruders--and they are not exactly wrong.

Most life-bearing worlds we encounter have a common genetic history with other worlds--usually hundreds, and probably in most cases thousands. This is not in itself a surprising statistic: even if only a handful of species build true interstellar civilizations capable of xenoforming worlds, and even if that xenoforming takes many centuries, within a few million years, most inhabited worlds in a galaxy as planet-rich as ours will be xenoformed in origin. Indeed, according to some xenobiologists, the surprise is not that so many worlds bear the traces of previous civilizations, but that any wolfling planets exist at all. What presents a puzzle for the xenologers is that the horizon of known galactic history is so short: where are the continuous civilizations that are ten thousand years old? One hundred thousand? Ten million? One billion? Why does there appear to be a kind of Fermi filter, an absence of continuous technological, interstellar civilization beyond the last one hundred thousand years or so? Why, in fact, is the galaxy not dominated by such ancient civilizations, given that they have had billions of years to establish themselves?

Several solutions have been offered to this problem. One, perhaps it is an issue of statistical bias: even now, Frontier has surveyed only a tiny fraction of our little corner of the galaxy. The portion that has been explored in depth is even smaller. That galactic civilization is young in the Local Sector does not mean galactic civilization is young in the Milky Way. Two, perhaps conditions were not right for forming life-bearing worlds much before a few billion years ago, and given the complexity of intelligence required to journey into space, the great floresence of galactic civilization has only just begun. This hypothesis would stand only if the Sagarmathid Anomaly, and sites like it, could not be conclusively shown to be of very ancient artificail origin. Three, perhaps the constraint is social in nature--the difficulty of maintaining an interconnected interstellar civilization is such that periodic collapse is inevitable, followed by a long dark age. And a few creative paranoiacs have proposed the possibility the filter is exogenous in nature--that there is something in the galaxy that does not brook anything that might rival it in power, and that will eventually seek out and destroy any alien that makes its presence known.

Personally, I think no solution to this question is satisfactory; I am not even convinced it is a well-formed question. It assumes a universal worldview to be shared by all potential alien civilizations, and one that is rather humanlike. Or, to be more specific, rather like us humans as we are now--explorers, seekers, colonizers, builders--without admitting any possibility of change. I think it is possible, and even likely, that there are indeed very old civilizations in this galaxy; but that it is entirely possible we would be unable to recognize them for what they were, unless they condescended to make themselves known to us. And there may be civilizations that were once like us, but now are rather more like our ancestors, the Stargazers of our long, quiet childhood on Earth. And there are, no doubt, aliens with minds as complex and as subtle as ours, but so strange we would not even recognize them as sentient beings at first. Perhaps we have even already encountered a few. In short, the galaxy is not only stranger than we know; it is probably stranger than we possibly can know. Keep this in mind on your first deep space assignment.

Niall Horan is more than Mr Nice Guy

Three years after his last release, the 29-year-old singer has jumped feet first into the spotlight to promote third album The Show, which lands on 9th June.

“I’m more excited than I thought I would be,” Horan says of his return, a quiet confidence lingering. With outstretched legs, the double-denim-clad singer lounges in his chair, decanting still water from a glass bottle, as we settle in for our chat in his luxury London hotel suite. A high-pitched giggle ripples through him when two builders, dawdling on a pulley lift, nab his attention through the window, before he apologises for losing eye contact. “I’m revved up, but I’m nervous. I hope I didn’t waste 18 months writing something for people not to like it.”

Those 18 months in question were spent, in part, during the coronavirus lockdown, which acts as inspiration for many of the introspective lyrics on The Show. It was the first time in a decade that the singer had, well, nothing in his schedule, allowing time to contemplate his meteoric rise to fame. “There’s no heartbreak stuff [on this album], so there needed to be a new concept. The only good part of the pandemic for me was that I was actually happy being still. I had time to breathe; I realised it doesn’t have to be a thousand miles an hour all the time.”

For the uninitiated, the first six years of Horan’s career were spent in the extraordinarily successful band, One Direction. Originally from Mullingar, Ireland, Horan auditioned for X Factor as a solo artist in 2010, later forming a five-piece alongside Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik. What followed was unparalleled success, multiple award wins and huge stadium gigs. “I loved touring, but it was fucking crazy,” Horan muses now. “We’d go to countries and never see a second of it - it was hotel, venue, plane, same again. We couldn’t get out the [hotel] door. If you went out in the car, you’d be seen and chased [by fans]. I understand why it was going on, but it gave me a thing where, when I came back to London, I would be afraid to go out. There was a period where I actually couldn’t.”

1D announced their hiatus in 2016, and Horan released his first solo album, Flicker, the following year. His second, Heartbreak Weather, came in 2020. Three years later in February, he dropped The Show’s sparkling lead single, ‘Heaven’, taking to social media to celebrate.

“I was lying in bed when management texted to say the song was out, so I checked Twitter. The numbers were fucking nuts. I was up for hours seeing what people were saying.” Horan generally views social platforms as a tool for fun, and mainly use them to engage with followers. “Sometimes I type my name in to see tweets I’m not tagged in. If I see the fans talking about me without tagging me, I’ll reply. [My TikTok ‘For You Page’] is full of people doing dances to my songs, golf, and mid-century modern furniture. I like winding people that don’t like me up. I get such a laugh. I also try to reply to people who ask genuine questions about the music, or what I’m up to.”

With 14 years in the public eye under his belt, Horan has also seen a darker side of the internet. “I’ve [read that I’ve] been in car crashes that I wasn’t in. I’ve been in three or four fake ‘PR stunted’ relationships. What’s the old phrase? It’s tomorrow’s chip paper. I care about what the fans think, but there’s always going to be people… who would never say a thing like that to your face, because they’re cowards.”

As our time together rolls on (me looking at Horan, Horan looking at the procrastinating builders), his genuine charm reverberates around the giant hotel room. A chatty openness takes the conversation from his favourite true crime documentary (The Jinx) to tips for long haul flights (green noise) and best skincare advice (facial steaming). It’s this endearing, positive aura that makes his Nice Guy Reputation™ legitimately easy to believe. But what’s his secret?

“Don’t be a prick?” Horan jokes. “There’s no secret to that. Just don’t be one. My Irishness? My humble upbringing? This is like some kind of questionnaire. A combination of a few things. Carefree attitude?”

Horan laughs off the suggestion that he’s going to dinner parties with groups of celebrities, instead insisting he has “two really good [industry] friends, and a tight circle of old mates. People have this idea that all famous people are friends. But you’re not friends with everyone in your office, are you? I remember seeing Channing Tatum on a plane. I’d never met the guy in real life, but he waved. We were laughing later. He was like, ‘I felt like I had to do the token ‘celebrity to celebrity’ kind of moment.’”

One person Horan has connected with on a deeper level is Lewis Capaldi. “He’s just a diamond geezer,” Horan says, before sharing a better-than-average imitation of a Scottish accent. “There’s not a bad bone in his body. He’s a solid friend, and he also happens to be one of the funniest fuckers you’ve ever met in your life. We’re in a lot of WhatsApp groups together.” Horan also reached out to fellow Irishman Paul Mescal, when Normal People came out. “He’s a nice fella. When he first moved to London, I talked to him a bit. But then the pandemic happened, and we never spoke again.”

The singer briefly touches on his relationship with Amelia Woolley, who he’s been with since 2020. On whether he has a romantic side, Horan says, “I think so. I wouldn't say I’m like ‘rose petals on the floor’ type of romantic, but I'm good at caring. I'm good at making dinners and the day-to-day stuff." On love languages, he adds, "I’m good at words of affirmation and I’m good at touch.”

Album release aside, 2023 also marks Horan’s 30th birthday, with the singer entering his third decade in September. “I’m excited for it - I’ve heard your 30s are the best time of your life,” Horan says, enthused. “I’ve never been one of those people to overthink timelines. I hope I don’t age too much!” On plans for the next decade, he's thoughtful for a moment. “I’d like to still be doing this, going around the world, still playing to thousands of people. I’d like to win a Grammy. I’d like to be happy. And to still have decent skin.”

Okay, so after asking a lot of questions I remembered the question I wanted to ask:

Can you tell us more about fire based objects? Like what is their culture, do they share a phobia/fear etc.?

this has been in my inbox for a while so i figured i may as well answer it. i'll be using firey as a basis/example for this. i'll primarily be discussing fireballs but if you have questions about any other species i can cover those too.

fire based objects are very interesting as they don't appear to have any sort of energy or fuel source, capable of burning for as long as they live. their sizes can vary wildly with the size, temperature and color of their flame indicates their health. smaller flames and lower temperatures are a sign of sickness. the bigger and brighter the flame, the more respected they are in their community. their skin is leathery and fireproof, plated with thick scales used for insulation and protection.

of course, they have a remarkably high internal body temperature and most cannot get close without some form of protection. fireballs have excellent control over the amount of heat they produce so as not to burn their loved ones. they appeared to have evolved this ability for purely social reasons over something like survival, as social grooming and physical contact with other species are the only time they use it. they dislike having to dull their flame for reasons outside of this as it is seen as a sign of submission and weakness.

fireballs are very passionate and temperamental. they may not always get along with other species but if you are able to befriend one they are fiercely loyal. young fireballs tend to be more outgoing and friendly, becoming more guarded against outsiders as they grow up. they live in large groups, called conflagrations, and prefer to live in caves and on mountains to avoid starting fires.

all of them are hydrophobic, being unable to touch water without getting injured or possibly dying. water rapidly lowers their body temperature and can diminish or even extinguish their flame. they have an internal compass that helps them detect and avoid water. they don't get dehydrated either as a result.

though fireballs prefer to keep to their conflagrations, they are very social and take care of each other. if one member is sick, the others will gather around and share body heat as they will have trouble maintaining it on their own. they are primarily foragers, looking for leaves, sticks and sometimes making their own charcoal to burn for fuel. they are builders and like to carve out dens and create structures to live and take shelter in. during rainstorms, they will use these shelters or hide together in a nearby building or cave.

Built to the gauge of 2ft 3 inches in the hopes of one day connecting with the Skarloey railway, the original owners made it twelve miles to the valley of Ooyre before declaring bankruptcy in 1951. This would have been the end of the line, if not for the village of Cregwir

 The village of Cregwir was a farming village, cut off from the rest of the Island by mountains and hills, but the same hills that isolated them contained slate as well as coal. They had just never possessed a way to bring their products to market. As the journey to Harwick took a full day in one direction. The railway could change that. The line had stopped construction just beyond the village, and would drastically shorten the journey.

The village banded together and purchased the abandoned line. The Cregwir mining company was founded, and the first quarry opened in 1852. A team of horses was purchased and used to carry stone and slate from the quarries on Ooyre valley to the docks at Harwick. The Horses were given the numbers 1-4 depending on their place in the team. While it is known the Horses also received names, it is uncertain which belonged to the original team, and which belonged to later teams. For nearly twenty years the horses plodded along the line, delivering slate and stone to the harbor, as well as any passengers making the journey. Passengers would ride in the slate wagons or on top of their load, depending on the direction of travel. The village grew as workers migrated to take the new jobs offered by the quarry. The other villages along and near the line, such as Droghan-y-Claghan, quickly followed suit and the valley soon was home to multiple quarries. The increased workload soon began to strain the team of horses, even when a younger team relieved the original four. A new form of motive power was needed. In 1869, the Cronk and Harwick contacted Hunslet Engine Company and placed the order for their first locomotive, Sapphire.

The Lone Engine

1870-1914

The discovery of a coal vein near Cregwir in 1864, and the opening of a mine in 1865, played a vital role in the decision to purchase a steam locomotive. It was an expensive venture for the small railway, but necessary if the line wanted to preserve its future.

The engine ordered was a precursor to the more famous Alice class built 16 years later, and indeed bears a striking resemblance to this day.

The engine arrived on the Harwick docks in the spring of 1870 and was pulled up the line by the team of horses. Villagers crowded around as the locomotive was steamed for the first time. The Cronk and Harwick number 5 opened her eyes for the first time surrounded by the village she would serve.

Named Sapphire by the village children, No.5 would quickly prove her worth. When compared to the horse team, she was capable of hauling loads twice the size in half the time. Sapphire proved to be a responsible and easygoing engine, happy to be useful however was needed. When she wasn't pulling trains, she could often be found surrounded by children, telling stories. If being the only one of her kind bothered her, it never showed. 

In 1883 the passenger traffic on the line had grown enough that 4 coaches were ordered for passenger work, primarily carrying workers to the quarries. These coaches were designed and built specifically for the Cronk and Harwick. Although any record of the coaches' builder has long been lost, it is believed they were built by Brown, Marshalls Nd Co. Ltd, as the coaches bear a distinct resemblance to those used on both the Talyllyn and Skarloey Railways. Named Arawn, Llŷr, Beli Mawr, and Brigid, the coaches are still in service with the railway today. Although it is doubtful that any of their components are original.

By the 1890s Sapphire was considered a village elder, and was often trusted to watch over children on her own on days she wasn't working. She was noted to be fond of her non-sentient co-workers, and, unusually, the horse team was reportedly fond of her as well

In 1898, Sapphire met another engine for the first time. The quarry and coal mines at Cregwir had grown to such a size that a dedicated shunter was needed. A 0-4-0st of Bagnall design was purchased and Sapphire collected the small engine from the docks. While Sapphire was a smaller engine even by narrow gauge standards, the shunter was smaller still, quickly earning the name Bitsy from the workers.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Sapphire and Bitsy soon formed a friendship, and the two could often be found chatting while Sapphire waited on her train to be secured.

The turn of the century saw little change for the small railway, with Sapphire reaching thirty years old receiving more attention than the fact it was 1900. The first decade of the century passed quietly, with Sapphire puffing up and down the valley as she had seemingly always done. It is often hard to place pictures from this era, as the line seemed almost frozen in time.
