Queerbaiting sucks... but
I find it so affirming as a person who struggles with their romantic orientatation. I just live for that state of not quite friends/not quite lovers.
Like yes, they are partners, yes, they live and die for eachother, yes, every other relationship they have loses all meaning compared to them. But also no, they haven't kissed, and they don't want to kiss, and yet, somehow, every single word, every single glance, every single touch carries so much meaning and conveys so much love because this amount of platonic love is usually unheard of and they don't want the other to misunderstand. And I just- aaah, it gives me so much hope and reminds me that romantic love isn’t the only type of love worth experiencing and showing on screen/paper.
I do wish it was done intentionally and wasn’t just a product of homophobia and capitalism. Like I really, really hate the reason I get this representation. Like, it also leaves a somewhat sour taste in my mouth, because I can see that if the world was more accepting, it would probably be a romantic relationship.
(I sometimes see people calling queercoding queerbaiting, and just to make it clear, that isn't what i'm talking about)

Things in Stranger Things I don't really give a fuck about
The Russia Plotline (fuck the russia plotline)
Stancy v Jancy (just let Jonathan and Nancy be together, you don't need a love triangle for a relationship to be interesting)
The cast keeps getting too big, it's hard to keep track (like those evil military people? completely forgot about them)
Things in Stranger Things I do give a fuck about
Will, Eleven, Mike, Lucas, Max, Dustin, Jonathan, Nancy and Joyce having strong plots and character arcs
The mystery of the Upside Down and the way Vecna exploits people’s trauma
Getting the small town vibes from Season 1 and 2 back, I miss it

Unpopular (maybe?) Mean Girls opinion: Cady should have broken up with Aaron and dated Regina.
Tumblr media
Okay, first of all, albeit I doubt this was Reneé Rapp’s intention (or maybe it was; nobody knows the mysterious ways of the Lesbian goddesses) the lyrics of ‘Not my Fault’ sound suspiciously like Regina is stating that she’s going to downright steal Cady from Aaron (“You came with her but she might leave with me”; “Kiss a blonde, kiss a friend”; “You gotta pay for what I get for free”, ect.)
I’ve seen a lot of fanfics depict Janis and Regina. While I don’t disagree, I feel like Janis sits more as a childhood crush than a love interest in the movie. Also, both are suitable candidates for a Friends-to-Enemies-to-Lovers but Cady just feels better, you know? Like they spent this whole time secretly fighting each other, and in the end they both drop the guy they’re fighting over and ride off into the sunset as Gay icons. (Because Cady gives off bisexual energy and Regina is literally irradiating Lesbian power)
Additionally, in the new movie, Cady’s only personality trait is that she’s in love with Aaron. This could give her more character depth- moving in from what is essentially a hyper fixation for someone she has, to be honest, better chemistry with. Mind you, I love the movie to death, but that is one thing.
(Also as a member of Gen Z shut up the outfits are fabulous, and be quiet to my friend who says Reneé Rapp ruined the movie, your face ruined the movie, I am a lesbian and that is totally objective)

Unpopular opinion: Social media of every kind should have an option that allows you to stop seeing political content for as long as you like. I understand that you want to generate awareness but seriously, there’s only so much political content regarding wars, conflicts, issues that one can process at a time. I read news apps for all the latest happenings and developments, and when I come on to tumblr / Reddit I just want to browse my silly make up and fashion pages. It’s so irritating that no matter how much I try to get my algorithm to show me what I want to see, I still don’t see that.

I’m gonna say something probably controversial that I feel like people are ignoring regarding making criticisms of the PJO show: just because Rick was involved in the creation and writing of the show doesn’t mean it is beyond criticism or even (super controversial) that it’s good.
RR is a novelist who relies heavily on first person narrative and internal monologue to tell his stories. That is hard AF to translate and adapt to screen. He’s also written so many other books and thought so much about changes he would make that it just feels like he’s rewriting the series instead of adapting it.
And yes, I’m sure Disney has some restrictions (Gabe) and there are changes that work well (Medusa). But come on, just because the actors are good doesn’t mean the story is good.
The little quips feel out of place, they are figuring things out too fast (worked for Medusa, didn’t work for Lotus Casino), and there is too much exposition and not enough exploring and fully fleshing out the fights (Alecto/Ms Dodds) plus moments that just did not need to be changed (Waterland). And because of all that the pacing is weird (the literal pace of the plot too like passing the solstice). He also changed which characters experience certain moments that seem vital (Percy figuring out Sally is in the Underworld, Percy & The Fates). And trying to pretend like this isn’t true because of small moments that are wonderful is dumb. I should feel like I HAVE to watch the next episode the way I kept turning the page and staying up to read the next chapter and I definitely don’t feel that.
The fans (and Rick) hated the movies not just because of the character assassinations but because of how far it deviated from the plot. Just because this series checked off the marks that the movie missed (Mr D. and Clarisse, St Louis, Ares and the Waterpark) doesn’t mean the plot is actually being followed. There’s a difference between changes needed for a screen adaptation and plot changes. If we had been expecting a fully changed adaptation that would be different. But we were promised a faithful adaptation and that’s not this.
I’m still gonna watch it because I want to see where it goes and I want to support the cast but I’m disappointed. And I’m tired of pretending that I’m not for fear of being called a fake fan or racist, because Leah as Annabeth and the casting as a whole is one of the only things I do love.

So, what's your most controversial take about OFMD?
I don't think Ed and Stede should get married in season 3.
They have a huge list of issues they still haven't addressed and are still relatively early in their relationship. If you skip past all that growth just to rush into the marriage. What are we even watching for?
Besides
They don't need marriage to be together happily.
I hate when that's the pedestal everyone worships.

I just now saw, posted on Instagram, a video with an AI of Tobias Forge's voice singing Chop Suey by System of a Down. The poster was praising the skills of a TikTok creator for editing this piece.
...Let me tell you why I reacted negatively.
As much as I would LOVE to hear TF singing a new piece, this is THEFT. You are using someone's instrument--none more personal than their own voice--to create something, and you don't have that right. Any artist would tell you the same. For that exact reason, I am vehemently and with the full force of my morality AGAINST using AI apps and technology to create art of any kind. Tech bros consistently use generative AI software to steal styles and images from existing artists, which they seek out and use to teach their software (like Stable Diffusion) to spew out inevitably second-rate work. Look closely at seams, edges, eyes. AI "art" is not art at all. It's JUNK.
I have recently joined a union of artists, digital and traditional alike, to fight against the current modality use of AI in the creation of art of any kind--fine, visual, music, film, and voice work (including singing), because unless a way is found to use this technology ethically, it SHOULD NOT take the place of human beings, real workers who depend on people hiring them for their skills.
BOTTOM LINE: I realize not everyone shares this opinion, but as an artist I seriously doubt Tobias Forge would approve of strangers using his voice this way, unsolicited and without consent.
ADDENDUM: I realize a current Ghost band member went through hell recently for using AI to generate a song; while my opinion on this practice remains the same, I strongly oppose how they were treated in their online space by the "fans." There is a better way to have a dialogue than bullying and abuse.

Irl i am a paralegal. ( has pattern recognition and clair’s )
So on the internet it pisses me off to see the accusations of pedophilia with no evidence. People like to speculate about him and all but it has to be said. A line needs to be drawn.
Every time someone ‘has evidence’ its
“ he was 33 she was 19” yah and? Legal and consensual. You might not like it, such large age gap is not always efficient but… it doesn’t make it illegal or make him a pedo. So stop accusing and slandering this man’s name with no evidence.
“ but he drew boundaries with Milie (MBB) about not wanting to answer personal questions “
LITERALLY TO AVOID BEING ACCUSED OF BULLSHIT. Especially when millie JUST was in the news about their ‘friendship’ with Drake. So I don’t blame him. Will do the same. Even as a women. ( i’m bi) this child has everyone up in their business hoping to find out who is suspicious based on who millie talks too. And he doesn’t have a choice to be like “ not working with her” so he kept it professional. As he should. It was THE RIGHT MOVE. Legally too.
Stop assuming and using the p word so freely. I am sure you could be putting this energy where it matters like people who are PROVEN WITH EVIDENCE to be deserving of it.

something I find both weird and really interesting is how sexual violence is treated differently than normal violence in fiction. dumb example, but it's the first one that came to mind: there's a lot of controversy I try not to get involved in surrounding Val in Hazbin Hotel, 'cause he's a rapist and abuser and all that bad crap, but I've literally never seen anything similar relating to Alastor being a serial killer or Rosie being a cannibal. which is especially strange to me, because in a way, Rosie and Alastor's behaviors are much more "romanticized" in the show than Val's abuse is. but for some reason everyone's ok with that? I'm not judging, if depictions of rape trigger you more than depictions of violence/cannibalism for whatever reason, that's perfectly fine, I just wonder why that's so common, or why it's deemed acceptable to depict most crimes as long as they're not sexual in nature. when did we apparently decide that rape is way worse than murder? like in my mind they're both bad. idk.

Some of my controversial MCD opinions/ controversial things I’m putting in my rewrite:
(Blue is opinions, purple is rewrite)
Aaron will be (and should have been) a minor character
Garroth and Laurence will end up together (slow burn/angst) because they had more chemistry with eachother than they ever did with Aphmau
Aphmau doesn’t need a love interest and all her romance will they wont they with Garroth and Laurence was boring and bordering on creepy
Garroth was more of a parental figure to Aphmau’s kids than she was but Aphmau wasn’t a bad mother
Jess makes a lot of her male characters love for Aphmau their entire personalities which is why Laurence got written out (he no longer had a use because Aphmau was with Aaron) and why Dante is a great character (he was never Aphmau’s love interest)
Garroth and Laurence’s biggest fear in Malachi’s mansion being Aphmau kissing Dante was stupid (it would’ve made more sense for it to revolve around their trauma eg: Laurence becoming a shadow knight and Garroth escaping an arranged marriage)
Dante should have killed Gene
Travis’ character should’ve been more than just a pervert because his backstory is so interesting and deserves more focus
Aphmau is aroace
Kawaii~Chan is a walking talking stereotype. Her way of talking was annoying and offensive
Katelyn’s backstory should’ve been explored more and her reasons for joining the Jury Of Nine should’ve been better explained
Zane’s death was stupid and underwhelming
Garroth and Vylad shouldn’t properly reconnect. I think too much had changed from when they last saw eachother for them to be ok with eachother
Dante, KC and Nicole’s relationship drama was annoying (like most of the relationship drama in MCD)
Garroth being pissy incel fit about Laurence and Aphmau ‘kissing’ was a stupid reason for him to join Zane and came out of no where. Garroth wouldn’t betray Aphmau and his entire village just because he couldn’t get with her it was so out of character
Zoey, Kiki and Donna deserve more appreciation because they’re often forgotten. They’re fun characters
Katelyn (should’ve) had to work harder to earn Aphmau’s trust
They should’ve had to have faced off more of the Jury of Nine after Katelyn defected and Zane declared war on Pheonix Drop
Irene’s influence should be more focused on so the reveal that Aphmau was Irene had more impact cuz it kinda sucked like I get Irene is a mystery n all but it made the reveal underwhelming
