This afternoon I was struck by the idea of convenience store cashier yoojin who may very well be canon, but specifically, like, after awakenings and dungeons become a thing.

A han yoojin who works night shifts and, like most people who work night shifts in a convenience store, is very very used to the weird and sketchy shit that people do and buy after midnight. The sky is blue, every action has an equal and opposite reaction, people become deranged after 1am. It’s a fact of life, and that doesn’t change even after people start being able to shoot fire from their fingertips and flood a street with their mind.

But one day, at 3am, the rusted bell above the door rings as someone comes in. Yoojin doesn’t bother saying hello, because most people who come in at 3am don’t want to be acknowledged unless it’s life or death or being asked if they’re paying in cash or credit. He just waits, and soon enough, there’s the familiar sound of items being set on the counter.

He looks up just high enough to see what was deposited on the counter, except he has to stop and do a double take because holy fuck, that’s probably the store’s entire stock of individually packaged chocolate milk. Just—it’s a lot of boxes of chocolate milk. Yoojin knows because he was the one to put them there.

Slowly, he looks up and is confronted by the very pretty face of a foreigner that’s currently looking very contrite. Also, her hair might be a bit on fire. “Look, I know it’s a lot of chocolate milk,” she says, like that’s his issue with the scene in front of him right now. “But hear me out. I’ve been stuck in this dungeon for like a week, right, because the guild master is just a little bit crazy and likes to assign us to dungeons that are a little too high-ranked to ‘test our skills’ or whatever, and I swear I spent at least five of those days craving chocolate milk. So I just had to hightail it over to the nearest convenience store as soon as I stepped out of the dungeon.”

Yoojin reaches up and points at the side of his own head. “You’re, uh, smoldering a bit here.”

“Whoops.” She pats out the smoking section of her literally ashen blonde hair and beams at him. “Thanks!”

“…no problem.”

He rings up her many boxes of chocolate milk and peeks a look at her card when she hands it over. Kang Soyoung, it says, which is a perfectly normal name. Yoojin doesn’t know what he was expecting.

“Enjoy your chocolate milk,” he says as he hands the card back over, and gets another too-bright-for-3am smile.

“I will!”

He waves goodbye and then promptly buries the memory under a thick layer of denial and confusion, writing it off as a one-time thing. After all, what are the chances, right?

She’s back two weeks later.

Harrow is a graduate student and she’s forced to find a part time job when her trust fund runs out. Luckily, her roommate and childhood companion Gideon works at a local convenience store and offers to vouch for Harrow with her boss. Harrow gets a job working at the register. One day, Ianthe and Corona (whom Gideon knows from a rather prolific one night stand a few months back) come through Harrow’s lane to buy Plan B. Ianthe recognizes Harrow from one of their shared classes. Harrow is completely oblivious. A few weeks later, Ianthe is a new hire at that very same convenience store. It gives her an excuse to spend more time flirting with Harrow but it’s ridiculous because everyone knows she’s super rich and has no business working a minimum wage job. Hijinks and hilarity ensue.

Queue Jealous Gideon who’s forced to watch Harrow slowly go from activity rebuking Ianthe’s advances to passively ignoring them and then finally tolerating and engaging with them. Gideon having to suffer in silence every time Harrow lets Ianthe touch her neck or lean close over her shoulder. Gideon catching Ianthe with her hands on Harrow’s hips in the alley behind the store. Gideon watching from the shadows as Harrow stretches up on her toes to press their lips together easily—far too familiar to be the first time that it’s happened. Gideon watching Harrow fall in love with someone else (Ianthe of all people) when she’s standing right there!! Even though she’s always been there…

Gideon realizing that she just wants Harrow to be happy (even if-yuck-it’s with ianthe). Gideon coming to understand that she won’t lose her relationship with Harrow just because Harrow’s letting new people into her life. Gideon being content with it because the places that they exist within one another’s lives are too integral to be replaced by anyone else. Gideon learning that her happiness is just as valuable as Harrow’s. Them finding it separately but celebrating it together.

Discovering that love—in all its forms—is supposed to be convenient.

i wonder when anyone is going to tell the league (in Battle Addict au) that straight jackets are actually pretty bad at keeping people actually restrained when they can think clearly hruoiehgboerhg (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivuuJxX1hXg (when praciced, its even easier to get out of than shown here lol)) but this au is incredibly interesting! fascinating looking at how the public reacts to things in the extreme and how the people who they target suffer for it, and how much misinformation is spread. really got me curious how they sped their time and how this effects emmets mental state. it cant be easy with everyone acting like hes a monster. and while ingo doesn't get the majority of the attention- if must be so hard to see his brother suffering like this. and im sure he isn't spared so scorn as well. really really fascinating- and a verrrry clear reminder of what people used to think mental disorders were like and how people with them were treated.

Funny thing: that’s partially why there’s some minor edits to Emmet’s straitjacket. There’s a narrow bar that his arms have to slot through, as well as a set of belts tied to his upper arms to keep them from moving too far from resting position. Homeboy weaseled out of the first one after like two weeks and they said "ok do it again this time mf" and handed him the new one.

The league would probably put Emmet on "leave" (house arrest) if they saw him get out of another one/realize the strait wouldn't work. That is probably what's keeping him from breaking out more than the actual jacket is.

As for mental state,

The household is certainly seeing more absences and mental health days. The worst part about the diagnosis for Emmet is that everything he used to enjoy has lost its worth because any time he sits down to study, he's just proving he is crazy and battle obsessed. He forces himself out of his old habits but he doesn't have anything to fill the void so he's stuck in a perpetual state of being exhausted and disinterested. Ingo may or may not be subconsciously picking up these beliefs as well

Yoojin really has no idea how Soyoung manages to have this much energy at four in the morning.

“Hey hey, Mr. Yoojin-ssi, what snacks do you recommend?” she chirps, peering intensely at the available selection in the snack aisle.

“Don’t you usually have something in mind already when you come here?” he replies. He rubs his eyes tiredly and winces at the burn in them. He hadn't managed to get much sleep the previous night, and now he’s paying for it.

Soyoung shrugs and pokes at a bag of chips. “Yeah, but I only ever crave food that I’ve had before. I want to try something new!”

“That’s right, Kang Soyoung-nim is from Britain, isn’t she?” Yoojin props his chin up on his hand and hums consideringly. “Are you looking for something more salty or sweet right now?”

“Anything that Mr. Yoojin-ssi would recommend!”

Yoojin sighs. That narrows things down. “Choco pie is popular,” he says, pointing at a red box of the chocolate-covered cakes.

“I’ve had those already,” Soyoung pouts. “I do like them, though.”

“What about custard cakes?”

“Oh, I haven’t tried those yet!” Soyoung grabs a box of the snacks and clutches it to her chest. “Anything else?”

Yoojin stares at her. “Isn’t that enough?” He already knows Soyoung is planning on scarfing down the whole box as soon as she steps out of the convenience store. She might not even wait until she’s out the doors.

“Mr. Yoojin-ssi,” Soyoung chides, “I’m a growing girl! I can never have enough snacks.” Yoojin distinctly remembers Yoohyun using a similar excuse in the past.

“If you want something saltier, you can try honey butter chips,” he says, pointing further down the aisle. Soyoung is actually lucky that she’s in so early for once—the chips sell out pretty quickly.

Soyoung shuffles over to where Yoojin had pointed, but she stares down at the bag dubiously. “I do like honey,” she says hesitantly, like she’s trying to convince herself. “And I like butter…” Maybe they don’t have honey butter flavored chips in Britain.

Yoojin sighs again and gestures for Soyoung to bring the bag of chips to him. “Here,” he says, scanning the bag and swiping his own card. “If you don’t like it, you can just give the rest back to me, okay?”

He flinches when he sees the glistening tears in her eyes. “Mr. Yoojin-ssi is so generous,” she sniffs, dabbing at her eyes delicately. It’s so dramatic that Yoojin has to resist the urge to laugh at the display. “Are you sure? I can just pay for it myself, really.”

“Just eat your chips,” he says, pushing the bag back across the counter at her and trading it for the box of custard cakes that she’s still holding on to. He scans it while she opens the bag and watches with amusement as she attempts to juggle a chip in one hand and get her card out with the other.

Once she finally manages to pay for her snacks, she pops the chip in her mouth and chews cautiously. “Huh,” she says, making a face. “It’s sweet.”

“It’s honey butter flavored,” Yoojin points out.

“Yeah, but I still wasn’t expecting this. I’ve only ever had salty chips before.” She pauses thoughtfully before reaching for another chip. “I guess it’s not that bad.”

Yoojin snorts but pushes the rest of the bag towards her. “Enjoy your catch for today, Kang Soyoung-nim.”

Soyoung frowns at him petulantly even while gathering her spoils for that morning. “C’mon, Mr. Yoojin-ssi, you don’t have to be so formal with me, y’know!”

“You call me ‘Mr. Yoojin-ssi’,” he points out reasonably, though he stumbles over the foreign form of address with his fading memories of his meager English education.

“So I’ll call you oppa, and then you can call me Soyoung-ah!” Yoojin politely refrains from pointing out that snatches of conversation at too-early hours of the morning aren’t really a foundation for building a close relationship. “C’mon, oppa,” she says pleadingly, leaning closer with her overly dramatic puppy eyes. “Even the guild master only calls me Miss Soyoung and he’s probably the person that I’m closest with outside of Evelyn and I just speak English with Evelyn.”

Yoojin’s not quite sure what to make of that word jumble, but he still feels a pang of echoed loneliness at the idea that this bright young girl’s closest friends are two of her guild members and a tired man at a convenience store.

“Fine… Soyoung-ah,” he mutters, and can’t help his smile when Soyoung pumps her fist with an unsubtle ‘yes!’

“Thanks, oppa! I’ll see you next time!” And then she bounds out of the store.

Yoojin keeps his composure for the next ten seconds, just long enough to make sure that no other customers are going to come in right away, before succumbing to exhaustion and laying his head down on his folded arms.

God, kids are so tiring.

I dont have a clear idea in my mind but ever since I sketched that dumb AU of Shinjiham in HS i have the feminine urge to make up a HC of them lmao i doubt anybody be reading this but i like talking to myself and reread this the next morning so ima just write this down lol

Like I said I dont have a clear idea but basically Shinji extended his study and ended up in the same year as Kotone (11th grade) because he actually got into a coma. Im playing around the idea that the story revolves around why is he in the same year as she is? Why did he fell into coma and how did he get into coma in the first place? This also means that Kotone didn't meet him until he enrolled into her class. Aki is still her senior and they're friends because idk I havent think of this yet lol but anyway one day Aki asked if she can help him keep an eye on Shinji and told her about him going to enroll in her class soon and he knows Shinji will struggle because he's pretty much an outcast and some people speculates and make rumors about his reasoning for his extension and Aki really cares for him and doesnt want him to fall behind or fail so he asked her a favor to help him out.

Shinji is hard to befriend at first and tell her to buzz off but when she mentioned Aki asked her to keep an eye on him and she won't take no for an answer, he sighed and said how annoying he is for setting him up like that lol At first he is kinda frustrated at how persistent she is on trying to help him and how she gets into everyone's business in class but he's aware of how contagious her presence can be and knows how people around her always be at ease when she's in class so he slowly opened up to her and accepts her kindness.

I dont really want him to be as depressive and suicidal as canon but I can see him having a self-worth issue and having a hard time accepting goodness around him. I kinda imagine at one point Shinji and Aki had a huge fight about him pushing everyone away and screaming at him that he's not as mysterious as he thinks he is and he's too blind by his own pity party to see how people still loves him and it took him a fist on the face and Aki crying to get that through his thick skull.

After the fight, he didn't come to school for a few days which actually worries Kotone because despite how uninterested Shinji always be in class, he never delibrately skip class and oddly enough he always pass his homework on time so she visited his place with his homework packets (and after bribing the office clerk for his address) and when she sees him all bruised up in his face she was like SHINJI WHAT HAPPENED WHY YOURE ALL FUCKED UP WHO DID THIS TO YOU AWAFSJQGRAJALA and he hissed at her to shut up and after she apologised, he admits that Aki punched him and after reassuring her it's technically his fault, he asked if she actually liked him and just as she's about to stammer with red on her cheeks, he quickly corrected himself that what he meant is if she likes being friends with him because he is such an ass to her and opens up about what he fought about with Aki and it's not until he sees tears in Aki's face that he's not the only one hurting and him pushing people away to not hurt them actually hurts other people too. Kotone assured him that if he realized that, its not too late to change and he has friends to help him get back on his feet. When she mentioned "friends", he looked at her and asked "Kotone, are we friends?" And she beamed at him and hook his pinky around her and whispered "Always been." and that's when he really accepts her and sees her as a genuine friend and not some annoying girl in class.

Idk how do I make them ended up dating but I just like the idea of a slow burn relationship so in the meantime they're just friends with budding feelings towards each other hsksksksksk
