Hi all! I make maps of railways, including Heritage, Historic, and Public Transit ones. Previously Ive made maps for all London Overground and Underground lines, and now Im making ones for the National Rail Network.

The Conwy Valley Line is a 30 mile line in North Wales, connecting the seaside town of  Llandudno to the slates mines in Blaenau Ffestiniog, connecting with the North Wales Coast Line at Llandudno Junction. The line was opened in 1879 by the London and North Western Railway and has 13 stations, many of which are request stops. At Blaenau Ffestiniog, the line meets the famous narrow gauge Ffestiniog Railway. The Red Castle Illustration comes from the coat of arms of Conwy County Borough, representing Conwy Castle.

Capel Curig (Welsh pronunciation: [ˈkɑːpɛl ˈkɨːrɪɡ]; meaning "Curig's Chapel") is a village and community in Conwy County Borough, Wales. Historically in Caernarfonshire, it lies in the heart of Snowdonia, on the River Llugwy, and has a population of 226, reducing slightly to 206 at the 2011 census. It lies at the junction of the A5 road from Bangor and Bethesda to Betws-y-Coed with the A4086 road from Caernarfon, Llanberis, Pen-y-Pass and Pen-y-Gwryd. Arms of Nefydd Hardd

“Lord of Nant Conway, Founder of the VI. Noble Tribe. Ar. three spear’s heads embrued* sa. pointed upwards.”

Again, I’m pretty skeptical that a Nefydd Hardd actually existed, but I did find mention of him in a legend that pops up in a couple places (and is set in the same geographical area as Conwy). The story goes that Owain ap Gruffudd sent Idwal, the most promising of his nineteen sons, to foster with Nefydd. However, Idwal outshone Nefydd’s own son, Dunawt, so Nefydd ordered Idwal’s death. When Owain discovered his son’s death, he seized Nefydd’s lands and banished him and all of his family except for one son, Rhun. The story and its subject are almost certainly legendary, although the current arms of the Conwy County Borough Council include two spears sable embrued* proper as a reference to his attributed arms. *“Embrued” is a very specific term of blazon meaning “dripping with blood.” It isn’t used very often; when it is, it is almost always applied to weapons, but very occasionally to predatory animals.

Llyn Ogwen is a ribbon lake in north-west Wales. It lies alongside the A5 road between two mountain ranges of Snowdonia, the Carneddau and the Glyderau. Somewhat unusually, the county boundary at this point is drawn so that the lake itself lies in the county of Gwynedd, but all the surrounding land (excluding the outflow) lies in Conwy County Borough. It lies at a height of about 310 metres above sea level and has an area of 78 acres but is a very shallow lake, with a maximum depth of only a little over 3 metres. It is fed by a number of streams from the slopes of the mountains which surround it, which include Tryfan and Pen yr Ole Wen. It is said that after the Battle of Camlann (King Arthur's final battle), Sir Bedivere (Bedwyr) cast the sword Excalibur into Llyn Ogwen, where it was caught by the Lady of the Lake. He has two sisters, one older one younger. The eldest, Siobhan, joined the military and has made quite the progression, but is still gentle and quiet in her nature. The youngest, Olivia, is a typical ‘youngest child’ and being the only other werewolf does not help with that.
