it’s just really interesting that you have ryan being so self-aware of the fact that buck and eddie are the worst at relationships with anyone except each other which means the writers definitely know it too, and they still chose to have buck talk about dating with chris.

in the single, first, most impressionable episode that’s supposed to introduce buck, eddie and chris to the abc audience, you have them deliberately choosing buck instead of say, bobby (in terms of people eddie goes to for advice), who has two successful relationships under his belt and constantly gives eddie relationship advice specifically.

yes i started another wip but ive been having so much fun writing it so here's some of my 5+1 platonic co-parents fic:

“Okay, Buck. Your turn.” Hen hands him the bottle. “Your options are pretty limited, my wife, your sister and your brother-in-law. For your sake you better hope it lands on Chim.” “And Eddie.” Buck says. “You forgot Eddie.” Maddie watches as Hen pulls a face and she hears Howie choke on his beer next to her. Admittedly, she had forgotten about Eddie too, who had so far remained unchosen by the Almighty Rosé Bottle. “Right, Eddie too, of course. Spin, pretty boy.” Hen waves to the bottle and Buck reaches forward and sends the bottle into a spin with a quick flick of his wrist. True to Hen’s word—and probably much to Buck’s relief—the bottle does land on Chimney who groans but good naturedly shuffles across the circle to sit in front of Buck.  “No tongue, Buckley, or I’ll bite it off.” Chimney says firmly and Buck nods. Out of the corner of her eye Maddie notices Eddie watching the whole encounter intently and she stores that bit of information away for later before turning her attention back to Buck and Howie just in time to watch her husband lean forward and kiss her brother, which is admittedly very weird and not something she wants to see happening ever again but also disturbingly intriguing in this context.

buck coparenting chris from the beginning literally solidified buddie endgame for me.

literally a tale as old as time shown through films and tv shows is a father who leaves his wife and kid and the mother who spends her life dating “the ones” whilst the actual one for her had been there from the start raising her child with her - prime example; gilmore girls, we even saw the time where loreli got back together with chris (baby daddy) but ultimately it didn’t work out and luke who practically was rory’s dad finally became loreli’s love interest and they ended up married.

"Exactly." Buck sighs. "I don't know. Dating always seems more fun in theory. You know?"

"Tell me about it." 

"Like, I want to meet somebody, I want to make a, a meaningful connection, but every date I'm on lately, it's been like, I'd so much rather be hanging out on your couch watching nature documentaries with Chris."

"At least he'll still watch TV with you," Eddie says ruefully. "I had to go hide out in the dining room the last sleepover he had because I was ruining the vibe. After I brought in the pizza and snacks, obviously."

"Ouch."

"Yeah."

"God. I can't believe he's going to be thirteen in a few months. Where did the time go?"

Eddie hums in agreement around the lip of his beer. Against the counter next to him, Buck tilts his head back and laughs. "You know, the first time we went to pick him up, after the earthquake—remember?"

"Of course." 

He remembers the low-level panic that he spent the day trying to shove down so he could do his job, and he remembers Buck, who had known him for maybe a month at the time, offering up his collection of facts about school safety upgrades as reassurance. He remembers driving to the school afterwards, and that soft, amazed smile on Buck's face as Chris peppered him with questions from the backseat, like being pestered by his coworker's kid after the world's longest shift was an unasked-for gift.

After watching ep 1 of 911 s7, I was left with this kinda… ig weird (?) feeling about the Chris and Buck conversation. Not only bc I never imagined Chris to be a player (that was my sweet lil boy😭), but because to me it felt like,,,, really uncomfortable and SO different from their usual conversations and dynamic.

But THEN I realized why.

This is the first time that Eddie recurs to Buck for an actual coparenting feat that doesn’t involve physically saving somebody from like,,,, horrifying situations (tsunami, the shooting, the meltdown). When in the interviews they said Buck and Eddie were getting closer than ever this season,,,,, 👁️ I can’t keep Buddie-speculating cuz we’ll see, but this- this is real u guys.

Don’t get me wrong, Buck’s always been a coparent (cough cough, the will). Besides the previously listed Disasters™️, he makes sure the kid eats, goes to school, is safe, is warm, listens to his dad, etc. NOW? Now he’s in charge of a really delicate situation, and that’s b o u n d to be uncomfortable,,,, like tell me ONE parent who’s ready or excited to have this kind of talk with his kids???

Yall know what this means right ????? Actual parent!Buck (<33) who Eddie actually leans on for you guessed it,,,, coparenting.
