Diskussion zu "Triff das Riff! – Perspektive Kunst"
Looking for Medusa
Gespräch mit Katharina Hoppe, Florian D. Schneider und Julia Katharina Thiemann

𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀・0.6k / 𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴・lee know x gn!reader / 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗿𝗲𝘀・tooth-rotting fluff, established relationship. lazy kisses & mutual obsession. / 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗲・for my @rachalixie: you've done well today (♡´ ˘ `)⸝⸝ᵕᴗᵕ⸝⸝)
𝟭𝟴:𝟮𝟮 — There’s a certain novelty to experiencing something for the first time.
Sure, the magic lives on as your love for the thing grows, but no sensation will quite beat out the first time the opening riff of your favorite song hits your ears, the flavor of your favorite fruit splashing onto your tongue, the climax of your favorite film rendering you a sobbing mess in a public theater.
But you walk into your room one Saturday afternoon to glance at the man lying face-up on the bed you share, scrolling absentmindedly with a mackerel tabby curled into his side. Cordate, coral lips that you know by now feel like satin and taste like home, catlike eyes framed by thick lashes that could run makeup conglomerates into ruin; perfect, prim nose and chiseled, angular jaw, strong and sharp enough to draw blood should you run your finger along the pretty perimeters.
You clamber onto the mattress as delicately as you can. Not delicately enough, by Dori’s standards. The cat tosses you a disgruntled look before landing noiselessly onto the hardwood, departing from the room in search of his less disruptive siblings.
Moments later, Minho’s phone is face-down somewhere out of reach; you are straddling his waist and leaning over him, your hands cradling his face so tenderly they’re barely there. You come close enough for wisps of your hair to catch onto the delicate curves of his lashes, for the tip of your nose to bump against his like a greeting from a butterfly.
His soft laugh puffs against the seam of your lips like a breath of your own. “What’s the matter with you?”
He threw the curtains aside and cracked the windows open earlier, letting into the room a shower of late-afternoon sun. It now dyes his skin a dewy caramel, lightens his eyes to pools of molten amber. For some time, you are unable to respond, enraptured by all the wonder that he holds.
Eventually, you tuck a strand of hair behind your ear, dip down, rid of the distance between you with a soft seal of your mouth his. He doesn’t move until he’s overcome his surprise, but then he brings one hand to your waist, slipping beneath the sheer fabric of your top to press your hips down onto his, and wraps the other around the base of your neck, the pad of his thumb settling over your jugular like a gossamer wing.
You sigh in pleasure and part your lips; he pursues this opening with a fervor, pliant tongue keeping your mouth ajar, head tilting to one side to better savor you, your teeth knocking and limbs entwining in this passionate fray.
By the time you come up for air, the world around you has changed. You’re underneath him now, his hands positioned on either side of your head. His eyes are no longer amber but obsidian, his mouth ravaged and raw in the aftermath of colliding time and time again with yours. The sun has largely vanished beneath the skyline.
You collect yourself just enough to procure an answer to his question.
“Every time I look at you feels like the first,” you whisper.
Minho doesn’t blink, doesn’t breathe in spite of how you’d just kissed the air straight from his lungs, doesn’t believe his ears. For that is the exact way he feels about you, always has been and always will, though you have always been the one to first verbalize the feelings that he doesn’t have the words for.
For some time, he is unable to respond, enraptured by all the wonder that you hold.
Eventually, he combs a hand through his hair, dips down, rids of the distance between you with a hard crash of his mouth upon yours, and there the two of you will remain until it’s no longer light from the sun that sets your room aglow, but that of the moon and a hundred thousand stars.

This underground duo makes their way to the surface with their debut album!
Coral Riffs is a new project featuring the talents of enigmatic DJs Scampi and KC. Their disorienting electronica is divisive to many listeners due to its unstructured ambient style, but they've made waves with the youth for the uniqueness of their sound. 🎵

The Little Merman: Pt. 4
Tumblr media
Pt.3
He hadn’t left his cave ever since he’d returned. Time had become one big blur for Ikuya, everyday was the same as the one before. Sceneries of fish in all colors swimming around the coral riff, warm sun rays breaking through the surface of the ocean and dancing across the waves went unappreciated by him. Pain and heartbreak had dulled his joy and the love for his home. Loneliness was felt in everything he saw and witnessed as you weren’t with him. He’d longed to show you his gorgeous home at one point, even if you were technically only human. Yet without your presence, all had lost meaning. Ikuya didn’t know what to do with himself anymore so he just didn’t do anything anymore, slowly withering away in his cave. Honestly, he didn’t even know how long he just hid away in his cave, losing himself in his own misery.
He didn’t know when exactly he snapped and his heart finally bursted, breaking into tiny pieces much like his mind. Everything was about you, every thought and feeling could be traced back to you. Only then did he finally leave his cave. Like a hurt, lost and blinded fool he rushed to the only place he knew that could help him somehow. All fear, all hesitation was thrown out as his rationality completely abandoned him and only the image of you reminded in his thoughts and his soul. Only you.
~~~
“Please…please…please…”
His desperate sobs filled the cave of the sea wizard as he swam through the narrow path of the cave. His heart was hurting. It was killing him slowly from the inside and he thought that tearing it out would have been a lesser punishment than what he was currently experiencing. What was this feeling? He was in love and love was supposed to be a wonderful feeling… So why did it hurt so much to love you?
He eventually reached the bigger part of the cave, the stony walls littered with algae and corals stretching far away from him and leaving him alone in the empty space. His amber-coloured eyes were darting across all the multiple smaller ways leading him further down the cave. He didn’t know which way he could find the sea wizard though. His heart clenched in panic, every second without you torture.
“Please! Come out! I need you! Please!”
He was begging. Begging the villain of his little world to help him. However, Ikuya was too desperate, too infatuated with you to care anymore. You were the first person he had ever loved and he couldn’t just live without you anymore. You’d given him joy and meaning and had taken it all with you on that night you had rejected him. He couldn’t accept this. You had been lying! You were the one who had thanked him after he had saved you, you were the one who had given him this gift, you were the one who had admitted to him that you wanted to see him. Yet you had been unaware that the person you had been praying to see again had been with you the entire time. If only he could have been able to tell you who he had been!
He couldn’t hear, see or sense anything. Where was the sea wizard? Why wasn’t he here? He needed to help Ikuya! It was because of him that you hadn’t been able to properly realize your feelings for him. It was because of is condition that Ikuya had never been able to tell you the truth!
“Come out! I need your help! Please… I beg of you…”
His voice grew very weak and shaky at his last sentence as despair came crawling over him, his fin flapping around in agitation and sorrow. Sobs started to echoe through the cave and its many paths as Ikuya swam around aimlessly. Eventually his ears picked up a sound though, a sound he instantly recognized. He couldn’t hold himself back, not thinking about the consequences his careless action might bring him as he quickly swam into the little cave where he could hear the sounds coming from. Relief filled him when he swam further down the path and saw the figure of the sea wizard and his many tentacles which were twitching around. He could see purple eyes glimmering in the darkness. He didn’t recognize the dangerous gleam in them when the much older man saw the younger merman swimming towards him, swimming closer to his most beloved treasure. His pupils, already small slits, narrowed even more and a snarl escaped his lips.
Ikuya couldn’t react in time, too blinded by his own desperate wish to be fulfilled. So he couldn’t dodge in time when a few of the sea wizard’s tentacles suddenly whipped forward, grabbing his fin and squeezing it tightly before throwing him away with such force that even the water couldn’t slow Ikuya down. He flew all the way back into the big room, his back hitting the wall. The damage wasn’t too big, only a few scratches and a dull ache in his back but it had brought Ikuya back to his senses anyways. He suddenly noticed the dangerous aura that almost made the water surrounding him feel heavier. Fear creeped up on him as the sea wizard emerged from one of the tunnels, purple eyes fixated on Ikuya with an almost animalistic aggression.
“How dare you enter this tunnel without my permission? No one is allowed to sneak in there!”
He growled, his voice dripping with malice and poison. He looked like he could rip Ikuya apart for entering the deeper parts of his home. Was he keeping something precious down there? Whatever the reason was, Ikuya had come for different reasons.
“I’m sorry for trespassing… But I need your help. You’re the only one who can help me now.”
His voice was quieter than expected, the agitated and frightening look in the sea wizard’s eyes almost paralyzing him. His anger felt almost oppressing and under normal circumstances Ikuya wouldn’t have been able to speak or move at all. His desperation however drove him past what he would be normally able to achieve, numbed him to all other signs of his body screaming at him to flee.
“You have one minute to give me a good reason why you’re here again before I get really angry. If you beg me to help you to see them again and live with them, I might just tear you slowly apart and feed you to my moral eels. You already had your chance.”
His voice had gotten calmer and lower but the wrath was still palpable and Ikuya knew that the sea wizard was dead serious. If he wouldn’t be convinced, Ikuya wouldn’t leave this cave alive.
“I-I…”
Words still failed him, all his feelings swirling around inside of him and making it hard to think clearly. Now that he was here, he realized that he hadn’t really thought much about what he’d want. His loneliness, his despair and his broken heart had ushered him to seek the sea wizard out again without ever considering how the creature was supposed to help him. Ikuya only knew that he could help him but didn’t know how that help would look like. The sea wizard on the other hand, noticing the silence from the merman’s side, felt his eyes twitching. He was baring his sharp teeth ever so slightly as he pulled his lips up in a slight sneer, irritated with the young boy who had returned to his cave without even a plan. Pathetic.
“One minute is over.”
Tentacles shot forward to squeeze and strangle Ikuya, sharp claws emerging out of the suction cups to prevent anything that they grabbed to escape.
“I don’t know! I don’t care either! I-I just… I want them back! I can’t live without them! It hurts! I’d do anything to be with them!”
Panic sept out of him when he saw the clawed limbs coming for him, pushing him to just yell out what he was feeling right now. He didn’t know what else to do anymore. Amber eyes closed themselves as the tentacles came for him yet Ikuya found his heart not even fearing death the most. He feared the helplessness of never being able to see you again even more as his last chance was gone with the sea wizard rejecting him.
There was no pain though and it never came. Instead Ikuya opened his eyes to see the tentacles pulling back. Purple eyes were scrutinizing him much more carefully now as the sea wizard had a furrowed expression on his face. “You’d do anything to be with them? You can’t live without them?” He asked the younger creature in front of him slowly as if wanting to make sure that he’d understood Ikuya correctly. Ikuya nodded hesitantly, not yet sure that this sudden development would mean that the sea wizard would still help him.
“Well, that sounds rather intriguing. Why don’t you tell me a bit more? Maybe I’ll have a chance of heart?”
The sea wizard tilted his head to the side, an unsettling grin crossing his face as his glowing eyes pierced through Ikuya. Under those eyes, Ikuya slowly revealed everything to the sea wizard, vocalizing feelings he’d never been able to tell to the person they were meant for. With each and every line, the sea wizard seemed to be more invested and unknown to Ikuya, his lovesick story brought delight and memories to the wizard’s mind and heart as he recalled a time many years ago that had changed his life too.
~~~
“Ah, I see~”
He chuckled darkly as he swam in circles around Ikuya, his purple eyes not once leaving Ikuya, observing his every gesture with heightened interest.
“The mere thought of your beloved human must drive you insane and the distance between you two must tear you apart from the inside. You’d do everything just to be able to have them forever to yourself. Your heart is probably beating faster in your chest whilst thinking about being the only reason for their bright smile and your body is craving to hold them close to you.”
The accuracy of his words made Ikuya’s skin crawl as he wondered how the sea wizard could analyze his feelings so well. His own eyes never left the moving form of the sea wizard as he felt like a little fish at the mercy of a shark. Still though, he couldn’t help but hope that he’d help him.
“What do I do with you now though?”
The sea wizard sighed as he stopped moving and crossed his arms in front of his chest, tilting his head as he closed his eyes. A few seconds passed by before he opened his eyes again, purple orbs gleaming with a sinister glow.
“Would you really do anything to be with them?”
“Yes. Anything.”
There was no hesitation in Ikuya’s voice, his eyes shimmering with that painfully naïve optimism, with eyes that dreamed of having you by his side. The boy had potential however…
“If you really mean those words, I’ll give you a chance. But only if you prove to me that you’d really go as far for your love as you claim.”
Bright eyes sparkled when the older men promised him his assistance, his excitement not even blemished when the sea wizard talked about a trial. The only thing that mattered to Ikuya was the chance to see you again and to be with you for the rest of his life.
“Tell me, do you know what our kind has to do in order to enable humans to survive in our world without drowning? Probably not, I think most sea inhabitants in your age have been left in the dark about it. Understandable, a love between their kind and our kind is considered taboo. Our two kinds have a bad history with each other. You probably grew up with horror stories of humans and have been warned to stay away from them, haven’t you?”
He was right. In his childhood, he’d never been allowed to swim close to the surface when boats or ships had been spotted on the surface of the water. His parents had always warned him about your kind, about how evil they were and how they’d kill him or catch him and take him away from the ocean if they’d ever spot him. A grin crawled upon the monster’s face when he was met with Ikuya’s silence.
“It’s always the same, isn’t it? Well, I don’t blame your parents. Our kind has been far too often captured or even killed by ships sailing across the ocean. In all honesty, I think of them as vile creatures who are paranoid and fear everything that they don’t know and that may hinder their illusion of reign over this earth and its ocean…”
The young merman bristled at those words. He wouldn’t defend all of humanity but the sea wizard was applying it to all humans. You weren’t one of them. You’d kept it a secret that you had even seen him in his true form, had cherished the memory of him saving you and had even gifted him a necklace. He didn’t even have this as his last reminder of you as he had traded it against a spell to walk on land.
“Don’t look so offended over there. Most of humanity, I would never respect. However, there are some exceptions under them. There are humans who are special and rare like natural pearls. Those have to be treasured and protected from their own kind. Because humans don’t even respect their own kind and instead tear themselves apart over fickle things such as money or gold. You have found such a pearl under them, haven’t you? I’d love to help you but I’m worried that you might be far too soft-hearted and weak to protect your human.”
His words were subtly laced with venomous spite when he talked about humans only for his tone to grow mellow when he mentioned that there were still some good-hearted under them that had to be protected. He almost looked like he was sympathizing with Ikuya about this topic. The younger man had no time to think deeply about it though when he was asked the last question.
“I…I’m too soft-hearted? What do you mean?”
The older man shook his head gently, a sad and almost disappointed sigh leaving his face.
“Oh, you are so young. So naïve. You have certainly good intentions to love your human. But you lack the determination to take more drastic measurements. You’re too gentle and I fear that isn’t enough to protect this… what is their name again? (y/n)! That’s what they’re called.”
“Just loving them isn’t enough? What more do I have to do?”
Ikuya was shocked, the words of the wizard confusing him as his mind was racing. What more did he have to do than love and adore you?
“You still don’t understand? Well, you did grow up in a very safe environment so you probably were never confronted with such a topic much before. What I want you to do is prove to me that you’re willing to kill for your (y/n).”
That one word that he uttered with such ease whilst maintaining the slight grin on his face as if it didn’t face him in the least bounced back and forth in Ikuya’s mind. It took him a couple of seconds to fully grasp the meaning, the implication of what the sea wizard meant. Coldness bloomed in his chest, the terror slowly pulsing through his body and freezing his blood.
“Y-you want me to kill somebody?”
His words were quiet and trembled softly as his eyes stared at him in disbelief and in a desperate hope that he had misunderstood something. The growing grin on the wizard’s face shattered his feeble hope as he felt a heavy knot forming somewhere in the pit of his stomach, twisting and turning his insides and filling him with growing unease.
"Yes, I do. But not just anyone. I want you to kill someone very specific. I think getting rid of this person would be in your own interest as well. Does the name (...) ring any bells up there?"
Suddenly he was way too close to Ikuya, so close that Ikuya could have counted the sharp teeth peaking out from his slightly opened lips as cruel eyes were scrutinizing him, reading him through every small movement of his body. Words were stuck in his throat as the name unfortunately didn't belong to anyone Ikuya knew. Sensing this, the sea wizard pulled back in surprise.
"You don't even know the name of your nemesis?"
"N-nemesis?"
A sigh escaped his lips as he looked at the young merman.
"The person who took your precious (y/n) away from you."
He knew that Ikuya had understood what he meant with the way his amber eyes widened. He took in the emotions that they were mirroring greedily in as Ikuya was forced to recall the memories of his last day with you. The echoing pain, the crushing sadness and behind that, grown and manifested throughout the last weeks of misery and loneliness, a bitter resentment. That was the right spirit. A little push in the right direction was all that he needed now to help this young man.
~~~
His bright eyes watched the small ship rocking gently on the waves, his gaze observing the small silhoutte inside the boat. He didn't know how the sea wizard had even been aware of what had happened during his time as a transformed human nor did he know how he had predicted that their ship would be on this day at this location. Asking hadn't done much either as the sea wizard had merely left him with the shallow remark that he 'had eyes and ears everywhere'. Ikuya knew what this meant though. That he was most likely being watched right now. This was his last chance. If he couldn't do this, he wouldn't get any help
"It isn't that hard, you know? Even you should be able to pull it off. You have the advantage since they're on the ocean. Just pull them into the water, let them drown and then bring their body to me. If you do that, I'll tell you a secret to how you can make your human breathe underwater and prolong their life."
Was that even possible? Probably, after all the very same creature had created something to be able to turn into a human. He surely had also something among his vast collection of spells that included allowing a human the ability to breathe even in water. All Ikuya had to do now was do his part of the deal.
His body slowly submerged back into the ocean as he slowly moved through the water, his eyes glued onto the body of the boat moving across the surface of his home. There was a permanent tightness in his chest, a fear that had wrapped itself around his chest like chains. A weight that almost threatened to pull him down. He had never killed someone before. He had grown up safe and sheltered, had only ever killed fish to eat them. Killing a human who would think and feel was something entirely different. What expressions would they make? He was afraid. Afraid of seeing their face twist into a mask of desperation and fear as he would drag them down into the abyss of the sea until they would lose consciousness and eventually drown.
"You still look quite frightened. What are you so afraid of? Do you fear that it might be difficult to end someone's life? Believe me, ending a life is almost too easy."
Perhaps the sea wizard was right, Ikuya was quite weak-minded and soft. He had avoided conflicts for his entire life. His bigger brother, his mother and his father had always saved him when a shark had tried to attack him or when he had gotten himself into other troubles. Now he was all alone though and if he would have continued being all by himself, he wouldn't have had as big of a problem remaining as meek and soft as he was right now. But he didn't want to be alone anymore. He wanted you by his side and the thought of a future with you shackled him down with a new weight he hadn't experienced before. Responsibility for another life. Because you wouldn't be able to defend yourself against sharks, dolphins or other sea inhabitants as good as he could. He would have to do it. He would have to be the one to protect you down here just like you had protected him whilst he had spent his time with you on land.
"Try to think about what would happen if they would continue staying alive. Your beloved (y/n) would probably marry them at one point and they would start a family of their own. (y/n) would live their life, would grow old and gradually think less and less about you as the years pass by. That's the tragedy of our kind. We live for centuries, our hearts stay the same. A human on the other hand lives only a couple of decades. Their hearts waver and change. (y/n)'s heart will change too until you'll only remain as a faint memory. Do you wish to be forgotten?"
What a question was that even? Of course he didn't want to be forgotten by the person he loved. But were his words true? Would you forget all about him as time would pass on? Would your heart move on to (...) and would their presence completely erase him from your heart? Could you be that heartless? He didn't want to know... He didn't want to find out.
"Do it!"
They had barely any time as Ikuya suddenly flipped their tiny ship over with a surprising amount of strength from underneath the surface, the water parting shortly as their body was thrown into the ocean. He saw them struggling, their limbs frantically moving as they were trying to reach the surface. Images flashed before his eyes as he recalled his first encounter with you. Struggling, floundering around helplessly in the water, terrified to drown and never see the next sunrise again. You had been lucky though. Because he had been there to save you. However, they were unlucky. They wouldn't get saved by him. They would die. By his own hands.
Just as their head burst through the surface, Ikuya grabbed their legs and pulled them back down again. Their fight-ot-flight-mode kicked in instantly as they kicked their legs around, trying to free themselves from his grip. Their eyes were wide and they stared at him in horror, their lips tightly sealed to not swallow any water yet he could almost feel their instinct to scream. The sight...broke something inside of him. The unaltered and pure look of fear, of a silent plead for him to spare their life that cut through his very being. His hands tightened their hold as his body started trembling lightly. He didn't want to do this. However, he had no choice. He... He didn't want you to spend the rest of your life with someone else besides him.
"They owe you their life after all. You saved them. It's only fair for you to get nothing less than their own life in return."
What had this person ever done for you? What had they done to deserve your love and affection? Nothing. Nothing that could ever compare to what Ikuya had done for you. It wasn't fair. It wasn't fair for him to be left with nothing whilst having done everything for you whilst they had done nothing only to get everything in return.
"It isn't wrong to do something for your own joy at times, that's at least how I'd do it."
Your own words for some reason echoed in his head as he pulled them slowly down, he didn't know why he recalled those words all of a sudden. But you yourself had said it, hadn't you? He was doing all of this for his own happiness, wasn't he? He was in the right.
Minutes passed by where he slowly dragged the human deeper down. Amber eyes flicking back and forth as he couldn't fully bear looking how their movement slowly grew weaker and weaker until it fully stopped. When Ikuya realized that they were dead, something came over him for a moment. He let them go and flinched back, eyes quivering as he watched their corpse slowly floating further down into the abyss of the ocean. Their eyes still wide open but all emotions had left their face. Their gaze unfocused and empty, their body devoid from all warmth. He felt his breath hitching in his throat, his chest heaving as the pressure he had felt this entire time tightened. He wanted to scream, wanted to cry, wanted to sob about what he had just done but nothing came out of his lips.
It was too late to regret anything anymore.
Shaky hands grabbed their shoulders and pushed them down, his tail propelling him through the water as fast as he could. Empty eyes stared back at him as he did so, almost as if even asking in death why he had done it. Their gaze wormed its way deep into his brain and heart, shattering a soul that should have never committed such a crime anyways. Love however could truly corrupt even the most gentle of soul.
~~~
Blood was staining the water, swirling ominously around the corpse as a handful of moral eels were tearing into the flesh, tearing the body to tatters. Shreds of their clothes were floating around, lumps of skin and flesh bitten out of them as the animals fed hungrily from the treat they had been given. Dull amber eyes watched the scene unfold from above the entrance to their little and narrow cave in which his pets were living. Next to him, purple eyes on the other hand were gleaming happily as the sea wizard saw how much his eerie helpers enjoyed their treat. Tentacles snaked their way down to pet their long bodies and for a short moment they looked up, locating their master through their sense of smell and curling their bodies as if showing that they appreciated the treat before going back to their meal.
"I'm impressed. I honestly didn't know if you'd be able to pull it off."
He said with an acknowledging voice that made Ikuya's skin crawl. Being praised for murdering someone felt like cracking his very essence. He numbly followed the older man as he made his way back to his own cave, eyes staring thoughtlessly at his huge form and his lower body consisting of tentacles. He tried to empty his mind of all thoughts as otherwise everything would only become an endless cycle of how he had just killed a human until his mind would shut down and he'd completely break. He zoned out to a place of no thoughts and no feelings, the numbing sensation of disbelief and shock welcoming as it spared him from an outburst of emotions.
When he felt something being pressed into his palm, he slowly left his white place of nothingness, his eyes slowly connecting with what the sea wizard had given him. A bit of life returned into his defeated eyes as he recognized the necklace with the wooden dolphin again. With everything that had happened, he had almost forgotten about it. But...
"Why are you giving me this back? I thought that it was payment for your spell to turn me into a human?"
A part of him coiled back in terror when he heard his own voice which sounded so unlike him. It sounded slow as if every word was heavy and monotone and tired as if someone had sucked all life out of him. However, he couldn't deny that this was exactly how he felt like right now. Empty and different as if he had been forced to give a part of himself up when drowning (...) earlier. His sense of his inner pain slowly returned the more he paid attention to it and instinctively he clutched the necklace close to his chest as if filling the hole inside of him with anything that reminded him of you.
"See it as a small present from my side. I must say, you exceeded my expectations. I never expected to see such a forbidden romance in my lifetime again."
He had no energy anymore to question what the sea wizard meant by his words. Instead he nodded thoughtlessly along.
"Now it's time to fulfill my part of the deal though."
A spark of something returned in those amber eyes of his again and he felt his heart aching intensely, throbbing with a gaping hollowness that only you would be able to fill and soothe by now.
"I'm surprised that you don't know about this because it is so simple. However, perhaps it's this simplicity that makes it so hard to figure out."
Simplicity? No complicated spell was required for this? Then why... Why had he just been forced to kill someone for this? The ice-cold terror took hold of him again as for a short moment, his mind was jumbling with so many thoughts and feelings that he couldn't process even a single one of them. However, his inner storm only lasted a few seconds before all mental strength left him and everything collapsed as defeat seized control of him. It didn't matter anymore. They were dead. Now that he had gone that far anyways, the only thing left to do was take you with him. Take you for himself. Otherwise this would have been an unnecessary death and he would be nothing more than a crude killer.
Unbeknownst to him, the sea wizard noticed with hidden delight the darker gleam that shortly flashed across his once bright and innocent eyes. Only someone who had given up any noble rules and principles, had laid himself down and sacrificed something that could never be repaired would be able to truly understand what it meant doing anything to protect his human after all. Ikuya had finally reached this point. The point of no return.
~~~
Your teary eyes gazed upon the ocean and its rippling surface. The sunset ignited the water in warm colors and a gentle breeze caressed your face and body gently as you just sat in your boat, your face void of all emotions. (...) hadn't returned. It had been three days since they had sailed out to fish only to never return again. A search party had found their boat upside down in the water but hadn't caught any sight of them. No one knew what exactly could have turned their boat over in such a violent way as the sea had been perfectly calm that day. Only speculations that sharks might have attacked them when they had been thrown into the water were rumors everyone seemed to accept. Most people had given up searching for them, assumed that they had been dragged depper into the sea by some shark. Drowned and never to be found again. At least not in one piece.
You had escaped the restricting and haunting walls of your own home after having locked yourself away from the world for nealy over 2 months now, only leaving it if you had to buy new ingredients. You had rejected all visitors, the old doctor who had wanted to apologize, blaming himself for the incident back then and (...) themselves, worried about you and offering their company. You hadn't allowed anyone inside your house though, locking them out of your home and your heart. And just as you had slowly started to feel a little bit less miserable and terrible, tragedy had struck your life again. Why were it always the people in your life that had to be swallowed forever by the unforgiving ocean?
So beautiful with all of its sparkles as the light bounced off of the waves yet also so deadly and cruel. You had fled from your home to escape somewhere else, somewhere where you weren't aware of the sudden emptiness in your home in which so many precious people had lived only to leave you. Somewhere where no one would knock on any doors and offer their condolences. Somewhere like here. Where it was only you, surrounded by the very thing that had taken everyone away from your life. You stared at the reflection of yourself in the curling waves, remembered the time when you had been nearly found your end in the ocean too.
"Do you just hate me?"
You asked in a soft voice, fully aware how silly you were being by talking to a massive body of salt water. You wouldn't get any answer to your question anyways. Perhaps that was the most tormenting part of it all. You'd never know why it had to be all the people you had cherished so much.
Your gaze never left your reflection as you didn't know what to do with yourself in this moment. Right now you just wanted to be alone with your own sluggish thoughts and numb feelings.
Movement underneath the surface slowly brought you back and pulled you out of the black hole of your own mind and you furrowed slightly. A flash of a tail caught your attention and briefly you wondered if this was the shark that was rumored to have killed (...). Was it here for its next victim? Would it ram your ship to make you its next prey? How would you react? Would you react at all?
It was no shark though. Instead something emerged from your own reflection, the waves parting its way as a head, shoulders and arms appeared. Hands grabbed the edge of your wodden boat, using it as physical support to pull the upper body up, leaving only the lower body submerged inside the water. Your own teary and sad eyes met broken and dull eyes as the hauntingly familiar face gave you a smile. A smile filled with suffering and pain yet also infatuation and joy. Joy to be finally reunited with you again. Everything came to a stop for a moment. Your thoughts, your tears, your breath, even your heartbeat. Your mind was rejecting what your eyes were perceiving right now, reminding you that this wasn't possible. He should have been dead. No one could have survived such a fall. Sure, you had never found his body but you had assumed that the current might have washed him away or that one of the notorious sharks had seen him as its next meal. So how...?
"I-Ikuya?"
You chocked out, your voice raw and shaky as your eyes took in his face. His eyes seemed to light up a bit when he heard you call his name with so much emotion and his smile brightened. His own eyes seemed to greedily take in everything he could about you as if wanting to memorize and never forget it.
"I... I don't understand. Why... How are you still alive? I thought you were dead."
Your mind was buzzing as it tried to come up with an explanation to all of this. You didn't understand anything anymore. Until your eyes landed on the necklace he was wearing and your eyes widened when you recognized the little carved dolphin. Slowly but surely your mind came up with an explanation that sounded initially too stupid to believe.
"I-Ikuya. Are you...?"
You couldn't voice your idea out but he knew what you meant to ask him anyways. You saw something emerge from behind him and when you took a look, your breath stopped for the second time. A teal-coloured tail was peeking out through the surface, bending itself so that you could see it clearly. Now you could also clearly see how his human body melted together in the middle with the tail he was showing to you right now. You couldn't speak and even if you could have, you wouldn't have known what to say anyways so it would have ended in the same way anyways.
"You still remember. I'm the one who saved you on that day."
He said breathlessly and softly, as if being in your mere presence was enough to fill him with admiration and adoration for you to the brim.
Your head was spinning and your emotions were one big mess as everything became just too much. Too many questions you couldn’t properly voice out.
“I-I couldn’t tell you back then. I wasn’t allowed to do so. B-But now things are different. Now I don’t have to keep it a secret from you anymore."
He spoke, his words fast as a tinge of excitement got the better as life seemed to return into his amber-colored eyes. Your mouth opened as you tried to say anything but nothing worked. Your brain came up with loose words that you couldn't string together into a coherent sentence and your tongue felt heavy as if it had turned into stone.
'Why are you here? Why now?'
You wanted to desperately ask him this yet you seemed to have forgotten the words to use, merely your eyes shimmering with tears could express everything that words couldn't do at the moment. Luckily for you, he understood. He understood the plaintive look in your eyes.
"I'm here for you."
You felt his hands reaching for your face, the pads of his fingers gently caressing your face. His fingers left wet traces all over your cheeks as your eyes were glued to Ikuya. Your brain had seemingly shut down as everything was processed awfully slowly, every sensation and feeling only recognized as such a few seconds later. That's why you didn't instantly recognized how one of his hands snaked itself around the nape of your neck and pushed your head down.
You blinked when you finally noticed the gentle pressure his hands applied onto your neck to push you closer to him, tried to speak up to say anything. You couldn't do when you felt warm lips meeting your own, the taste of salt water prickling your tongue. It was a sensation you had experienced before on that rainy night. That kiss had been desperate and inexperienced though, a clash of his lips against yours in an attempt to make you understand everything he had felt in that moment. This time it was different. He was slower and more gentle, basking in the feeling of your lips against his own. When he pulled away, his cheeks had a pink blush on them as he looked at you with batting eyelashes. Your inner turmoil temporarely calmed down before coming back into full gear as soon as you had understood what had just happened, your heart wavering with so many different emotions and thoughts until it became one big blob of confusion and helplessness.
"I love you."
A shudder went through your body when those damn words reached your ears and made your heart bleed as the sincerity and fragility of his voice cut right through your crumbling walls. Your breath hitched and you felt more tears dropping down your face as his second confession left you vulnerable and helpless, unable to tell him your true thoughts and feelings. Would he leave you again if you'd do so? No... You didn't want that. You didn't want to be left alone again.
"It's okay. It'll be fine. We-we will be happy."
You thought that his voice seemed to crack for a moment, a look of anguish and guilt flodding his face as he looked at you. What was it that had elicited such a look to appear on his face? You could only silently wonder without ever voicing your thoughts before you felt his other hand placing itself on your back. Both of you exchanged a long look with each other, silent words and questions going back and forth between the two of you until your head started spinning with the way his eyes looked at you.
Your body sagged forward with little to no resistence as he pushed you off the boat, your water splashing through the surface of the water. Your chest heaved as your lungs filled with oxygen and you took even deeper breaths when you realized this. His eyes seemed to sparkle as he also realized your ability to breathe underwater. He let out chirping sounds in a way of communication you couldn't understand before he wrapped his arms around you, his tail flipping through the water ashe brought you further and further away from the surface. Your eyes watched the dim light from the sunset slowly fade away into the distance, wondering why you weren't more emotional, distressed anxious to be taken away from everything that was familiar to you. Was it because Ikuya was the only familiar person you had left at this point? Or because you had accepted quite a while ago that you'd always find your demise in the ocean one way or another?
~~~
His head turned slightly up, light blond hair swaying gently through the water as purple eyes seemed to focus on something they couldn't sense. They wondered what he was noticing as he seemed to be quite fixated on it for a while, the corner of his mouth tugging themselves up, revealing a few of his sharp teeth.
"...Is something wrong?"
They asked slowly and cautiously. The sea wizard turned his attention instantly back to the little human, eyes softening a bit as his tentacles were wrapped around their fragile body, now more delicate and vulnerable than ever. He shook his head.
"It's nothing."
Asking him to elaborate on whatever had just caught his attention would be useless. The only thing they could figure out from his words and the look on his face was that by labeling something as 'nothing', he meant that it wasn't anything he deemed as a threat. They nodded slowly, relaxing in his hold as good as they could despite the heavy changes their body had undergone the last few months. His behavior had transformed together with their body, becoming more volatile and hostile against everything that got too close to his dwelling.
Their eyes focused on the glowing corals that he had grown along the stony walls so that they could see their surroundings since little to no light was able to reach this far into the abyssal channel. Although this wasn't even the deepest layer yet. They didn't even know how many years had passed since he had offered them this deal. Their life in exchange for the lives of everyone else on the island, including their own father and friends. If they had to take a guess though, it must have been over a decade. Not that time mattered anymore to them, their life essentially tied to his which meant that their life span was as long as his.
"You're worried, aren't you?"
They were thrown out of whatever place their thoughts had just drifted to when hearing his softer tone and the way the suction cups of his tentacles carefully attached themselves to the stretched skin of their stomach, sensing the little heartbeat and the precious life that had started growing underneath his little human's skin for so many months now.
"I understand why it's scary. There has never been any records of both of our species being able to reproduce. Not to mention that your body...hasn't taken quite well to previous mating sessions."
His words were hushed and carefully chosen as if trying to avoid mentioning that he had mounted them forcefully, his body reacting to the closeness of a mate which had triggered multiple times over the course of years of captivity his primal desire to produce offspring with his chosen mate. After his sexual drive had been satiated, they had always fallen ill, their body violently rejecting what his weird body had pumped into them as a little human body wasn't made to carry his offspring.
Yet this time was different. Not only had it taken but it had managed to grow inside his lover's body to the point where they were heavy and swollen and his enhanced senses could tell that birth was only a few weeks away. The thought of his darling about to give birth to the first hybrid and his first child ever created filled him with giddiness and pride. The little one would be very special, he was sure of it. And it would receive a name his darling would choose for it. A name, just like they had given him one nearly two decades ago when he had been nothing but the monster from everyone's nightmare...
~~~
"That's the end of the story, my sweetie."
"Unfair! You didn't finish! What about the sea wizard and his story?"
"Another time, child. It's already quite late. You know what that means. It's time for you to sleep."
"...Fine. Pinky promise that you'll tell me his story too though?"
"Of course. Pinky promise."
'Since his breakthrough performance in Danny Boyle’s 28 Days Later over two decades ago, Cillian Murphy has become one of the biggest names in acting. Later, Murphy honed his skills with an iconic performance as Tommy Shelby in Peaky Blinders and a series of collaborations with beloved director Christopher Nolan. After appearing in The Dark Knight, Inception, and Dunkirk, he now takes on the starring role of the eponymous Oppenheimer in one of the most anticipated films of the year.
Alongside the Irish actor’s love for cinema, he also harbours a passion for music. In his youth, Murphy sang and played guitar in bands, even meeting his wife at one of his gigs in the mid-1990s. His most promising band was The Sons of Mr Green Genes, named after the Frank Zappa song, which featured Murphy and his brother Páidi. Acid Jazz Records even contacted the duo to offer them a deal, but they declined.
Though Murphy’s gigging days are behind him, music remains a huge part of the actor’s life. During an interview with the Sunday Independent Life Magazine, he stated: “The only extravagant thing about my lifestyle is my stereo system, buying music and going to gigs.” He still plays and writes alone and with friends and was even featured on a recent single by The Coral.
Expectedly, for someone so well-versed in music, Murphy’s taste is varied. Though he presents on the alternative station BBC Radio 6, his taste stretches beyond dad rock. From the early synth-pop of Christine and the Queens to fellow Irish performer Van Morrison, Murphy has littered his interviews and radio shows with wide-spanning music recommendations. We’ve collated a number of tracks he’s shared his love for throughout the years.
Murphy once awarded the title of his favourite band to Radiohead, naming ‘No Surprises’ as the song he wishes he’d written in an interview with NME. He states: “I think they’re the biggest band, who became the biggest band in the world without wanting to be the biggest band in the world. They’re probably my favourite band.”
Murphy also once noted his love for the contemporary Irish band Fontaines D.C. On one of his shows for the BBC, he stated, “I’ve been playing a lot of Irish music, but I am Irish, and there is a great explosion of new Irish music!” He names ‘Liberty Belle’ as one of his favourite tracks from their 2019 debut album Dogrel, but adds, “Every single tune, they’re relentlessly themselves.”
Murphy also shared his love for rapper Kendrick Lamar, noting that DAMN was the first album his 11-year-old son ever purchased. Murphy’s own was The Final Countdown by Europe: “I’m not ashamed of it; it’s a great riff. But Kendrick Lamar… Look, I think he tips it.”
Ranging from Beatles classics to contemporary rap and 2000s indie, check out our collated list of Oppenheimer star Cillian Murphy’s favourite songs below.
Cillian Murphy’s favourite songs:
Christine and the Queens – ‘Tilted’ Elbow – ‘Fly Boy Blue / Lunette’ Europe – ‘The Final Countdown’ Fleetwood Mac – ‘Man of the World’ Fontaines D.C. – ‘Liberty Belle’ Jackson C. Frank – ‘Blues Run the Game’ John Lennon – ‘God’ Kendrick Lamar – ‘YAH’ Low – ‘Always Trying to Work It Out’ Marvin Pontiac – ‘Small Car’ Massive Attack – ‘Hymn of the Big Wheel’ Paul McCartney – ‘Maybe I’m Amazed’ Radiohead – ‘Daydreaming’ Radiohead – ‘No Surprises’ Stevie Wonder – ‘Sugar’ The Band – ‘The Weight’ The Beatles – ‘Love Me Do’ The Kinks – ‘You Really Got Me’ The Strokes – ‘Someday’ The Velvet Underground – ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll’ Van Morrison – ‘Sweet Thing’'
DuPont School for Monstrous Youths Intro
What's up, ya'll? As you know, I was inspired by Sparky's Creepsters Intro from a while back to make some for our other AU's! Here's the next in the line-up! @artzychic27 @imsparky2002
("Calling All the Monsters" begins to play. The camera shows a wide shot of a gothic palatial school, before lunging forward to zoom up to the building's massive front doors.)
(A human boy with bright green eyes and messy golden hair waves to the audience with a welcoming grin, pushing the doors open and beckoning us to come inside.)
*TITLE CARD: Adrien Agreste: Monster Ally, Human Sunshine*
(The camera swings around to where a cloth girl with pigtails made of yarn and large blue buttons for eyes stumbles to a stop in the hallway, giving the audience a shy wave with one hand and sheepishly clutching her arm with the other.)
*TITLE CARD: Marinette Dupain-Cheng, Voodoo Doll: Clumsy, but cute as a button*
(Marinette jumps before gaining a fond smile as a floating, transparent girl with eerie purple sclera and chains around her limbs phases through a wall to her side. The ghostly girl looks at the audience, winking with a smile as she snaps a picture with her cell.)
*TITLE CARD: Alya Cesaire, Ghost: Paranormal reporter with a spunky spirit*
(Alya bids Marinette a wave goodbye before she finds a green arm on the floor. She picks it up with a fond shake of her head and flies down the hall. We see a POV above Alya's head as she flies, and she stops in a room where several students are dancing. She tosses the arm across the room, and it lands in the outstretched hand of a green-skinned boy covered in stitching, who is operating a set of turntables. He attaches the arm before sending a jolt of electricity into the turntables with a huge grin, kicking the tunes up a notch.)
*TITLE CARD: Nino Lahiffe, Stein Monster: Stitched together to be the life of the party!*
(We hear high, girlish laughter, and Nino sends a jolt of electricity through a cord, which we follow to a large stage, where a set of bright pink curtains opens and reveals a skeletal girl with short blonde hair and a brilliant smile, twirling around as she belts a high note, until one of her hands flies off into the crowd.)
*TITLE CARD: Rose Lavillant, Skeleton: Sunshiney singer with punk rock in her bones!*
(The boney hand is caught by a jet-black bat with a purple streaked lock of hair over its forehead, which then swoops down to the stage, transforming into a tall girl with long black hair and deathly pale skin, who gives Rose a fanged smile before taking up her bass guitar.)
*TITLE CARD: Juleka Couffaine, Vampire: Queen of darkness who's batty on the bass!
(Another bat, this one with teal-streaked bangs swoops into the room with a musical shriek, before landing on the stage beside the two girls and transforming into a boy with a striking resemblance to Juleka, who flashes his own fangs in a grin before playing a deafening riff on his guitar.)
*TITLE CARD: Luka Couffaine, Vampire: Charming and cool vamp who lives to rock!
(Wafts of steam rise up through the floorboards, and we drop downward until we end up in an old-fashioned machine workshop, where a boy made entirely of copper is working on some gadgets at a table surrounded by tools and small parts. His face lights up with a smile as he finally works out an issue with his latest invention. His rocket boots fire up as he goes to show his friends.)
*TITLE CARD: Max Kante, Steam-Powered Robot: Old-fashioned chap with a talent for tech!*
(As Max jets down the hallway, a couple of older students smirk and prepare to trip him up...only to freeze in place as they become marble statues. The camera pans around to a short girl with coral snakes in place of hair, slipping a pair of dark shades back up to cover her reptilian blue eyes.)
*TITLE CARD: Alix Kubdel, Gorgon: Daredevil viper with a stony stare and a serious attitude!*
(A frisbee cuts across the screen, catching Alix's attention. She rolls her eyes as the camera zooms to focus on a tall, muscular boy with furry arms and a wagging wolf tail, panting as he chases after the frisbee, before letting out a loud howl as he jumps into the air.)
*TITLE CARD: Le Chien Kim, Werewolf: Oversized puppy who looks out for his pack!*
(Kim catches the frisbee in his teeth, before the camera follows him racing down the hall towards a large fountain with water so deep you can't see the bottom. As the werewolf approaches, a girl with wavy red hair and scaly blue skin rises from the water, giggling as Kim greets her by affectionately licking her cheek before she gives him a scratch behind the ears.)
*TITLE CARD: Ondine Rivas, Aquatic Monster: Fish out of water with a bubbly personality!*
(A thick cluster of vines covers the screen, before clearing to reveal a beautiful and vibrant greenhouse. The giant monstrous plants are being tended to by a petite girl with thick vines for hair and bright green skin. She hums a sweet song to herself as she waters a plant's roots.)
*TITLE CARD: Mylene Haprele, Plant Monster: Gentle flower child with two green thumbs!*
(Mylene gasps as a stray vine knocks a large flowerpot over a ledge, sending the plant hurtling toward the ground, only for a large gray hand to catch it midair. The camera zooms out to show a huge, burly boy with dark gray skin and forearms covered in white fur. He sets the pot down before looking up at Mylene, his surly expression changing to a gentle smile.)
*TITLE CARD: Ivan Bruel, Yeti: A mountain of a guy with a gentle heart!*
(The scene flashes back to the main hall, which is now filled with a whirlwind of sand, which parts to reveal someone in the center of it. Posing dramatically with her arms raised is a girl with tanned skin wrapped in bandages and adorned with lavish jewelry. She smiles smugly as she now holds everyone's attention.)
*TITLE CARD: Chloe Bourgeois, Mummy: "Mean" Queen of the halls with a softer side under her wraps!*
(Chloe squawks with slight indignation as she's lightly pushed to the side, and ushered towards the classroom by another mummy girl, this one wearing a white beanie and more casual attire, who rolls her eyes fondly at her sister's dramatic antics.)
*TITLE CARD: Zoe Lee, Mummy: Egyptian princess who'll never make you bow!*
(The camera pans back to the massive sand pile, where a girl with messy ginger hair and rotting skin picks up the book bag that Chloe accidentally left behind, shaking her head with fond exasperation as she adjusts her glasses, before heading down the hall with her head buried in a textbook.)
*TITLE CARD: Sabrina Raincomprix, Zombie: Shuffler with some serious BRAAAINS.*
(The camera pans upward and zooms into a cranny to reveal a pile of treasure in a small cave alcove, on top of which a girl with bronze scales and reptilian green eyes sits with a regal poise, using a blunt stone to sharpen her large horns.)
*TITLE CARD: Kagami Tsurugi, Dragon: A regal reptile with a slight hoarding issue!*
(We zoom out of the cave and up to a high tower of the school, where a boy made entirely of granite with shaggy red hair sits, sketching the scene of students walking into the school. His expression is cold and reserved, and his eyes carefully watch for any trouble arising.)
*TITLE CARD: Nathaniel Kurtzberg, Gargoyle: Dedicated sentry with a passion for the artistic!*
(Nathaniel's stony expression melts into a soft smile as he sees another boy flying up to his perch. The boy, who has adorably big green eyes and giant grey moth wings, sits next to Nathaniel, taking out his journal as the boyfriends share a quiet moment together.)
*TITLE CARD: Marc Anciel, Moth Monster: Shy and sweet writer who's just a bit jumpy!*
(A loud holler sounds from somewhere below the two, and the camera pans down to show a tall, dark-skinned student with wild curls and thick brown fur on their forearms. With a mighty bound, they leap over the school's high walls, high-fiving several students as they enter the halls.)
*TITLE CARD: Denise Cabello, Sasquatch: Big feet, bigger voice, biggest personality!*
(Denise fondly shakes their head as they watch a boy with messy red hair and a single, large green eye in the center of their forehead bump into a wall of lockers, his head having been buried in something he was doing on his tablet. Looking up, he adjusts his large, single-lens glasses.)
*TITLE CARD: Simon O'Connor, Cyclops: Techie who says one eye is better than two!*
(The scene changes to the school's observatory, where a girl with starry blue skin and silvery pigtails is looking through the large telescope into the sky. She turns to add some notes to the star map she is making.)
*TITLE CARD: Aurore Boreale, Extraterrestrial: Straight A student from a whole different world!*
(Aurore turns and smiles as bright blue ooze begins to rise up from a grate, taking the shape of a girl with tar-like black hair and loose-fitting clothes. With a frown, the girl pulls a few miscellaneous small objects out of her slimy skin.)
*TITLE CARD: Mireille Caquet, Slime Monster: Jiggly and shy sweetheart who leaves a trail behind!*
(The scene changes and the camera is skimming along the high walls of the school, where a girl with bright yellow skin and a pixie cut made of leaping flames is doing impressive parkour stunts, leaping from surface to surface.)
*TITLE CARD: Lacey Greene, Fire Elemental: A real hothead who never turns down a challenge!*
(The screen is covered by a thick velvet curtain, which is then pulled back to show a large stage in the center of the school's vast catacombs. A rousing tune is being played on a massive pipe organ by a ghostly boy with pale purple skin and a bedazzled half mask over the left side of his face.)
*TITLE CARD: Jean DuParc, Phantom: Snazzy spirit with a heart full of song!*
(Jean smiles lovingly at a boy sitting on the body of the pipe organ, listening in content to the song his boyfriend is playing. He wears a long cloak and taps the end of his scythe on the floor to the tempo of the music, before blushing as Jean pulls out a black rose to offer him.)
*TITLE CARD: Austin Tomassian, Reaper: Showing us death is nothing to be afraid of!*
(We cut back to a hallway in the school, where a gargoyle boy with badly coiffed blond hair and clad in varying shades of purple is running with a fearful look on his face as he's holding a red cloak. The camera pans behind him and we see a student with dark curls, large horns and hooves in place of feet charging after him with an enraged snort.)
*TITLE CARD: Cosette Bellamy, Minotaur: Run the other way when they're seeing red!*
(The camera pans up to the ceiling, and we see a large collection of massive spider webs, in the center of which sits a girl with six red eyes and six arms. She holds a set of knitting needles in each set of hands.)
*TITLE CARD: Reshma Leghari, Arachnoid: Spider Lady with seriously stylish threads!*
(Reshma hears a purring sound behind her and turns with a smile to see her best friend stretched out on a ledge. Batting a cat toy between his hands, a boy with black cat ears and a feline tail gives the spider girl a cheeky smile.)
*TITLE CARD: Ismael Prisk, Werecat: Snarky kitty with a mind for mischief*
(We change to a shot of two classroom doors. A woman with a messy ginger bun and rotting skin knocks on the door, holding the head of a woman with purple hair. A woman's headless body comes to the door, taking the head from the zombie woman and placing it on her neck, before the two share a laugh.)
*TITLE CARD: Caline Bustier, Zombie & Olga Mendeliev, Headless Horsewoman: DuPont's top teachers and total mama bears*
(A bright ray of light shines in through a stained-glass window, which opens to allow a girl with glowing eyes and flaming wings to fly in, working on sketches for her latest cartoon, a bright smile on her face.)
*TITLE CARD: Ayesha Reynolds, Angel: Ray of sunshine descended from the heavens above!*
(We zoom over to a corner, where a boy with crimson skin and large devil horns sits with his legs crossed in the center of a ring of hellfire, deep in meditation. His eyes suddenly open, giving us a mischievous smirk.)
*TITLE CARD: Anthony Mathis, Daemon: Born to be wicked, but good at heart!*
(The camera zooms in the doors of the front office, where a stack of documents appears to be floating through the room. We hear the sound of fingers snapping, and a girl suddenly appears holding the papers, her limbs translucent at the ends. She goes over and begins filing the papers.)
*TITLE CARD: Dot Waverly, Vanisher: Not always all 'there', but always on top of things!*
(Dot suddenly jumps as a darkly mischievous smile appears before her, rolling her eyes as theatrical laughter fills the room. With a dramatic swoosh of her parasol, a girl dressed in a gothic kimono with three swishing fox tails appears, giving us a playful grin.)
*TITLE CARD: Eri Tanaka, Kitsune: Mischievous Yokai with a love for all things gothic and dramatic!*
(We are transported with a swish of Eri’s tails to the school’s art room, where a student with rainbow-streaked hair and large glasses is firing bolts of color from the iridescent horn on her forehead at a canvas, smiling brightly all the time.)
*TITLE CARD: Petra Markov, Unicorn: One-of-a-kind artist and true free spirit!*
(We are now in the cafeteria, where a group of students are smiling blissfully as a hauntingly beautiful singing voice fills the room. The camera then zooms in on a lovely girl with feathery wings and fish scales along her arms, singing the beauteous melody.)
*TITLE CARD: Evie Balthazar, Siren: Sweet-natured lady who'll enchant you with song!*
(Hearing the sound of hoofbeats, Evie flaps over the window, smiling as she waves and blows a kiss, which is caught by a brawny boy with the lower half of a horse, as he’s sprinting across the school’s courtyard.)
*TITLE CARD: Brecken Sutcliffe, Centaur: Big-hearted country fella who's more horse than cowboy!*
(Some older students are harassing a monster from the younger grades, when suddenly, one of them hears a loud *crunch* right behind their head, turning around to see a short but burly student with a body made entirely of stone glaring at them.)
*TITLE CARD: Roxie Richter, Stone Golem: The most hard-headed person you'll ever meet!*
(The scene transitions to the school’s chemistry lab, where a student with long pointed ears and leathery bat wings combines different chemicals into a vial, giggling enthusiastically as she awaits the reaction to occur.)
*TITLE CARD: Anais Ackerman, Werebat: Nocturnal Brainiac who's batty about chemistry!*
(In another area of the lab, a girl with strawberry blonde curls and mint green skin is stirring a bubbling cauldron as she hums a Hex Girls tune to herself, prepping a spell to help the theater club.)
*TITLE CARD: Candace Fletcher, Witch: A real Hex Girl who'll cast a spell on you...if you give her sufficient reason.*
(The scene transitions to the gym, where a tall and lean boy with orange scaley skin, spiky multicolored hair and blunt horns jumps up to score a slam dunk…only to stumble as he hits the ground again.)
*TITLE CARD: Soo-Yeon Park, Dokkaebi: Anxious bean who's a beast on the casketball court!*
(In another area of the gym, a girl with messy red hair and the lower half of a serpent sits on the bleachers, scrolling through her phone and only looking up to make a snarky (but good-natured) comment about the slip-up.)
*TITLE CARD: Staci Kwan, Naga: A snarky snake who refuses to be charmed.*
(The scene changes to the school’s shop class, where a girl with six pink tentacles and a bright smile is helping move several large stacks of wood, humming a cheerful tune to herself.)
*TITLE CARD: Margo Jorgensen, Kraken: Sweetest caecilian in the seas who will always lend a helping tentacle!*
(The scene moves back to the school’s massive pool, where a girl with messy green hair, scaley green skin and finlike feet is holding a stop watch, barking commands to the swim class she is leading.)
*TITLE CARD: Parker Beauregard, Nixie: Swims to the beat of a military drum!*
(The camera exits the pool just as a girl with pointed ears, wild red curls and rapidly fluttering wings whizzes by on a skateboard with a sharp-toothed grin and her prosthetic leg on display.)
*TITLE CARD: Aggie Findlay, Faerie: Spunky sprite who will punt ableist asses!*
(The camera suddenly goes through the lens of a video camera, ending in the school’s news studio, where a student with eagle-like wings, and the claws and tail of a lion smiles spacily as they operate the camera from their bedazzled wheelchair.)
*TITLE CARD: Mona Truffaut, Gryphon: May be confined to the ground, but their head is in the clouds!*
(The shot changes to a pan down of a huge blackboard, where a girl with shiny wire hair and polished chrome skin, the orifice lines glowing with energy effortlessly solves a complex math problem, before loading the results into her data receptor.)
*TITLE CARD: Eloise Matuidi, Hi-Tech Bot: Mathematical genius with all the latest updates!*
(The students in a nearby hallway nervously avert their eyes, hoping not to catch the attention of a boy with immaculate blonde hair woven with golden snakes. He pauses a moment to send a sharp look to the camera, pulling his pink-lens sunglasses down with a challenging look.)
*TITLE CARD: Austin Armbruster, Gorgon: An asp fashionista with a cutting remark at the ready!*
(The hallway suddenly shakes with a deafening shriek, and the present students all shoot annoyed looks at a smirking boy with messy red hair and solid white eyes, who only gives them a smug laugh in return.)
*TITLE CARD: Austin Quinlan, Banshee: A temperamental tormented spirit who'll scream the house down!*
(We hear a loud shout of anger and the camera pans over to a boy with hairy hands and large horns, who has just crushed a gaming console in his hands after losing a game…only to pull out another one and start a new game.)
*TITLE CARD: Austin Boulet, Troll: Dedicated gamer with a big hidden temper!*
(The school’s pompous principal, M. Damocles, an owl man creature, is walking down the hall and suddenly lets out a loud shout as he steps on a trip wire and slips head over ass in the hallway. The camera pans over to a laughing student with small horns poking out from her curly brown hair, adjusting his red cap with a clawed green hand before taking off down the hall.)
*TITLE CARD: DJ Detweiler, Goblin: Impish prankster who stands up for the little guys!*
(As Damocles gets up with a grumble, the scene transitions to an in-school dance studio, where a muscular boy with a cowl of hair that resembles a rooster’s crest, reptilian eyes and scaley skin performs a flawless pirouette, before readjusting his dark black shades.)
*TITLE CARD: Austin Spinelli, Basilisk: Resident tough guy with a petrifying power, so don't mess with his friends!*
(The camera zooms to the music classroom nextdoor, where a tall student with thick blonde curls, mottled green skin and large fangs belts out a window-shattering high note, smiling shyly as she receives thunderous applause from other students in the room.)
*TITLE CARD: Mindy Blumberg, Ogre: Gentle-natured ogress with a serious passion for song!*
(We transition to a large ramp set up by the school’s pool, where a student with a tall, finlike Mohawk and a shimmering fish tail is about to perform a daring jump in their wheelchair, other students watching in awe as she begins his descent.)
*TITLE CARD: Victoria LeSalle, Mermaid: 'Stuck' with a tail, but not afraid to get dangerous!*
(The camera cuts over to the school’s grand main stairwell, where a girl with wild red curls, and the lower body of a goat slides down the handrail with an excited squeal, landing with a graceful bleat and a bright laugh.)
*TITLE CARD: Lotta Jameson, Satyr: Half-goat, half-girl, all adventurous spirit!*
(From above, Lotta hears a goat-like shriek and looks up with a smile, waving to a girl doing pull-ups from the rafters. The girl has cropped blonde hair that takes a backseat to her large horns, as well as leathery black wings and cloven hooves.)
*TITLE CARD: Gia Griswold, Jersey Devil: Nothing devilish about this military brat but the horns!*
(From underneath a table, a very small student with short red hair and a tall hat steps out, flipping through various notes of incriminating info on the principal on zir phone.)
*TITLE CARD: Rochelle Weams, Gnome: This little gnome knows what's up with everyone!*
(We hear a loud whoop, the camera pans up to the rafters, where a girl with a messy blonde ponytail, reddish-brown fur on her forearms, and large sabertooth tusks swings back and forth, before leaping down with an impressive tuck and roll.)
*TITLE CARD: Kendra Anne Gunderson, Yowie: Audacious Aussie with serious acrobatic skills!*
(The scene changes to a secluded closet of the school, which is filled with shelves loaded to the brim with vials of multicolored sand. A student with short mint green hair and blackened limbs meticulously labels and organizes each container.)
*TITLE CARD: Mason Ewing, Bogey: Super organized but a bit too nervous to get his scare on!*
(The scene transitions to a bog located on the school grounds, the waters beginning to bubble. A tall boy with shaggy red hair, moss-coated skin and a prosthetic leg rises, inspecting a strange object with a technological magnifying glass.)
*TITLE CARD: Gerard Grundler, Swamp Thing: The most brilliant marsh man you'll ever meet!*
(We cut away from the school for a moment, to a nearby human town, where two teens, a fidgeting Hispanic boy and a short and stocky blonde girl are hanging a poster for a monster activism event. A book suddenly hits the boy in the shoulder, prompting the girl to whip around with a fist raised in threat, causing the harassing assholes to scatter.)
*TITLE CARD: Jesse Ortega & Missy Rutherford, Human Allies: Fighting alongside Adrien for monster rights!*
(We flash back to the school, to a hallway where several sets of students are arguing, a few about to fight physically. A girl with ragged black wings and sharp talons laughs as she revels in the chaos she’s caused, babbling nonstop to her compatriots, hidden in the shadows.)
*TITLE CARD: Lila Rossi, Harpy: A devious birdy who lives to cause misery and chaos!*
(Suddenly, Lila is silenced, a hex preventing her from making another sound. Ignoring the harpy's indignant gesturing, a blonde boy wearing a menacing Jack O' Lantern mask appears in the monsters' midst, terrifying them and sending them running, making him smile with malevolent glee.)
*TITLE CARD: Felix Graham de Vanily/Jack O' Ripper: Leader of the Anti-Monster Brigade with a draconic fixation!*
(A sort of toxic gas fills the hallways, making many of the monster students fall to their knees, holding their throats. The camera pans over to a tall and muscular boy, littered with scars and wearing accessories made from monsters he's killed. His smile is cruel and sadistic.)
*TITLE CARD: Lucien Van Helsing, Monster Hunter: The latest in a family line of murderous evil, Felix's right-hand man.*
(The villains yelp in pain as they clutch at their necks, which suddenly have sharp pain shoot through them. They turn and see Marinette, a needle pressed in the side of her neck as her button eyes are glowing, focusing her hoodoo powers on them. Through the pain, Felix manages to teleport them out of there. Marinette's partners hug her proudly, and all the monster students gather in the main hall before turning to the screen for a group shot.)
(A flash of lightning cracks across the screen, revealing the title in gothic, cursive script: "DuPont School for Monstrous Youths".)
Yo! Welcome to Inktopia- Wait. Is that your fit? Hm. That’s an interesting vibe. Do they like, not have mirrors where you’re from or… Ah never mind, we all gotta start from the bottom to get to the top, right? Why don’t you go look around some of the shops and see if you find anything fresh?
Was messing around and decided to make some basic shop themes. I’m not sure if Ima keep working on them lol but yea here ya go. Headphones as usual are optional. These are just instrumentals btw
May I ask why Episode 3 ( I’m assuming season 2 ) is your favorite?
Yep, it's episode 3 of season 2. Don't think I have a favourite episode in season 1, I never fully watched it. Maybe episode 11 because we get a lot of MahiKen moments?
Anyway, S2 ep 3 is great. For one, it feels very rounded and self-contained. Love when episodes have a real story arc and aren't just a chain of action that's a fraction of the bigger action spaced out over multiple episodes. Episode 3 starts mellow and ends on an emotional high. There are also no parts I'm indifferent about. A lot of episodes have parts I kinda just sit through. Neither hate nor like it, just waiting for something more interesting to happen. Like episode 21 for example, I don't care about Todo's Takada hallucination. It gave me a lot to look at, but I was essentially just waiting for the real fight to continue. That's why it's not quite my favourite episode.
Most important reason why episode 3 stuck with me: I love the additions they made to flesh out Riko's character and make her death hit harder. They really made me care about her as a person, not just her connection to Tengen. The water symbolism they used is fantastic, a great idea. Her life as a coral riff and Tengen's presence turning the beautiful shallow water into a deep pit and suffocating her. Never get tired of looking at those scenes. The soundtrack and piano in the background make it perfect. We also see more of Riko when she's carefree and being herself, so you get an impression of what a life she could've lived if she survived and somehow escaped Tengen. The episode is essentially dedicated to her. Sure you have Toji and Gojo fighting or whatever, but it's really about her. We also get our first look at the Tomb of Stars and it looks beautiful and eery. The lit but empty houses around the tree always give me chills. Again the soundtrack is perfect for this and gives you a real feeling of awe and like you're entering a different world or a snippet of the past (reminded me of some Naruto soundtracks in a good way). If anyone knows what that track is called, I'd be forever grateful. It is also the episode where they used the OP/ED the most effectively in the anime (not just this season) with it giving us the false hope of Riko surviving only to cut out when she dies. Lots of fantastic stuff in that episode that comes together really well.
Calypso O'Teuthis iconic moments from the start of Three of Hearts to the end
Tumblr media
(age 23) at the start of their first album, Abyssa wrote a song called "Running Start" about how revolution cant happen if you dont move. it was a high tempo rock song where Pacifica and Calypso would jog in place with the beat of Abyssa's drums. during rehearsal, Abyssa had a hard time doing her drum solo without her older sisters doing something, so Pacifica would dance and hype up the crowd. when deciding what to do, Calypso just improvised and sprinted around the perimeter of the stage and then ran the perimeter of the pit in front of the stage. Abyssa found that hilarious so that just became the routine whenever they played Running Start. she would use her carbon roller and mark out her path and tell the audience to be mindful where they stand, quote "if you've been here before, you know, and if not; you're about to find out". this routine was a huge hit with the fans and became a right of passage to stand in the back so you would get the chance to high-five her as the runs past.
thanks to the pay from their first show, Calypso got a tambourine from the local music supply store. her new tambourine was a way to keep on beat along side Abyssa, and she used her highschool cheer experience to choreograph their shows. Three of Hearts started collaborating with fellow Octopunk band and close personal friends, Tentakillers. they would plan their shows and jam together.
(adding a divider here, content warning for mentions of death, brutality, and pregnancy. Calypso's story is not a happy one)
Tumblr media
(age 25) this iconic outfit is from their last show before going on a year long hiatus, and their biggest and most well known shows. Tentakillers and Coral Riff opened, which was the prototype for the upcoming Octopalooza festivals. dozens of photos were taken during this concert and many recordings exist, including an official concert recording by Abyssa. what many didn't know at the time right until the end of the show when Calypso announced it herself, but she was pregnant and the reason for the hiatus was maternity leave. some of the newer fans were sad to not get any shows or new music for a year, but older fans were happy and supportive. incubating for octoling mothers is an extremely difficult process, which is why the maternal mortality rate was so high in the past, so she really cannot work or even move much. the egg that is now an octoling named Grim took 2 months to hatch, and it took several months for her to regain full strength and health.
(age 27) after the hiatus, Three of Hearts were ready to rock! the pride of being back at full health after her pregnancy and having a healthy baby, she was thrilled to get back to performing. Octopalooza is in full effect, this is the third one. there's bands, vendors, artists with booths selling their work, and mutual aid resources. these were so popular that roughly 20% of the octoling soldiers stationed in Hadalburgh began to defect after going to the shows. Dj Octavio was made aware of an uprising happening in the deep sea domes and sent elite soldiers and dozens of troopers to Hadalburgh to shut down the festival, but nobody was willing to go down without a fight which lead to the Octarians attempting control through violence. the bands performing stopped to tell everyone to evacuate as quickly as possible, and they would show the way. Three of Hearts finished their set earlier so theyre just relaxing and getting something to eat when they see the commotion. Calypso knew what she had to do, it was coded into her genes, she had to sacrifice herself to save her family. she held Grim for the last time and told her sisters to get home fast. Calypso, Bobbie Sepiolida from Tentakillers, and Nelle Boreo from Coral Riff got their weapons and fought back. they successfully took out many Octarian soldiers but Nelle and Calypso were caught and taken by the army. Nelle managed to escape but Calypso was taken and sanitized which was her worst fear. several days later, a solider arrived to the O'Teuthis apartment with the sanitized body of Calypso, she was as alive as she could be in such a state but her body shut down and passed away days later. an octo mother's life is one of sacrifice and tragedy.
Note Block Universe lyrics by me
Warning some of the lyrics were pretty cheesy but very proud on verse 4 ngl
Verse 1 [NURSERY]
What's your name? I’m pig
What’s your name? I’m cow
What’s your name? I’m sheep
It's great to meet all of you!! I’m fox.
This is the note block universe
We speak in notes like a musical
Where we sing and dance all day long
What’s your name?
웃?
What's your name? I’m pig
What’s your name? I’m cow
What’s your name? I'm sheep
What’s your name? I’m Green!!
Hey can you help me?
I would love to help you
We would love to help you
I was wondering if you can help me find someone
What’s their name?
웃?
I saw someone coming out of the portal
They look like what you describe
Where did they go?
Over there
Thank you very much!!
Always a pleasure!!
Verse 2 [SORROW]
Hi can you help me little one?
Hi welcome this ol cave
Hey can you show me what you just did plz
Follow my rhythm
Just follow your rhythm
Down up down like doing a riff on a guitarR
Can you lead me to your folks?
Come along follow me
What a dread for being undead
Makes you sink in the middle of the ocean
Getting hungry
oh
Getting bitten
no
Oh will we ever be cured
Will we ever be cured
Please!
Excuse me? Go away
Pardon me? No way
Can you help me?
Don’t talk to anyone who doesn't speak like us
Can you help me?
What may you need help with?
Have you seen this person anywhereee
Yes in fact I saw them in despair
Despair?
They ran out over there
They ran out to the village?
Yes yes there!!
To the village
Thank you muchh
Verse 3 [MUSICAL]
Welcome to the village x2
Welcome to the village of Taiga x2
You’ve now entered into the village of Taiga
The community service here it’s like no other
Where everyone here can have a voice
And where everyone can make some noise
Look around there’s music ev-ery-where
We work hard and don't stop.
We wouldn't be lyin
Don’t stop there’s more in the horizon
Where we could all could be happy
Welcome to the village
Welcome to the village of Taiga
What’s that strange machine?
That just won't do indeed
Let out your voice!!
They got their voice
I got my voice
Make some noise
I’m part of the boys
Lets celebrate
For what is up to date
Go sing your heart out
I’ll just go do that
They got their voice
Make some noise x2
They’re apart of the boys
I’m apart of the boys
Lets celebrate x2
Go sing your heart out
