Nice size fish willing to play today. He was swimming “upstream” with the northbound current. Glowing in the morning light, I swung the fly just off his patch and he slid over and ate no hesitation. BOOM! Seems like the season is wide open just this week. Time to get your feet in the sand.
Had an awesome opportunity to hang out with some like minded (insane) corbina fly anglers from @ssffclub and got some instruction from the world famous fly fishing champion @steeliechick and company! Got some great tips, critiques on things I need to improve, and some validation on the things I'm doing right! We saw a lot of tails in the shallows despite the overcast conditions, but ultimately the corbina still feel I need a lot to learn before we can truly dance! Fun times! Can't wait to get out there with this crew again! Typical slider this time of year. Yesterday with my 30lb child on my back, I broke off two big fish. The first fish busted at the eye of the hook which made me think I tied a shit knot, but then the second fish busted at my bloodknot. The only thing I can think of is the flouro that’s been in my car all summer (and maybe longer) was compromised. Take care of your materials and don’t be like me!
One of my nicest fish on the season. Big fat female with a huge belly full of eggs i believe. She was cruising solo, I managed to drop my fly just to her right, give it a short strip, and she hammered it immediately. So stoked on this one.
Early Father’s Day gift to myself. Nice size bean that ate my offering on the drop. This doesn’t happen often, usually when my fly is sinking into a bucket.
