Corpolite posting.
Inspired by the numerous vids I’ve seen of herbivore snacking on little critters for the minerals.

Can you debunk this post?
The very first link on that post is a link to Linda Bacon's blog lmao. I believe Bacon changed her name to Lindo because she's now non-binary or whatever. She is a very prominent fat activist who claims obesity does not kill nor does it cause disease but even she herself admitted there are some exceptions like sleep apnea and a few cancers.
The idea that obesity isn't correlated to a shorter life span is called the obesity paradox. It has been debunked several times over.
A recent analysis of data from the Framingham Heart Study provides useful insight into the obesity paradox in clinical populations.4 Investigators found that obesity was independently associated with an increased long-term risk of cardiovascular mortality, whereas being underweight was associated with an increased risk of noncardiovascular mortality, with “mixing” in the middle ranges of BMI. Thus, a “U-” shaped curve was traced with increasing mortality on the Y axis and increasing BMI on the X axis. When cardiovascular mortality was the outcome, the curve was J shaped; when noncardiovascular mortality was the outcome, the curve was L (or reverse J) shaped (Figure). (link)

The study also points out that weight fluctuations are often not accounted for. People with various cancers, AIDS, lung diseases, etc. often lose weight before finally dying, meaning they could have developed the disease when still overweight but at the time of death they are normal weight or underweight.
Not to mention we know that when it comes to Covid deaths, obese people are disproportionally dying. The reason is that obesity is a chronic state of inflammation meaning your immune system does not function as properly as it should, leaving you more vulnerable to all sorts of diseases. The obesity paradox is based on cherry-picked studies that ignore the bulk of the evidence pointing towards the other direction.
The idea that ''diets fail'' is also not based on physiology but rather on psychology. Fat activists however tend to say it is physically impossible to keep off weight which is simply not true.
The post also addresses childhood obesity very poorly. It doesn't address the mechanical side effects of obesity which is that the excess weight hurts your knees very badly. The cartilage disappears disproportionally quickly meaning you will have the knees of an elderly person when you're still young. I believe it can also affect your lower back and hips.
The idea that weight is largely genetic is also a massive cope. There are many ways to increase your metabolism, ranging from building more muscle to excercising more regularly. If weight were mostly genetic, that wouldn't explain the increase in average weight for Westerners. The post also addresses this very poorly.
It cites a study that reports on Americans' self-reported average weight compared to their average ideal weight. It doesn't show an increase in actual average weight over time, as the person writing the post falsely suggested.

If we look at the increase in actual average weight, we see the following:

This graph is from the Daily Mail but is based on numbers from the CDC.
The rest of the post is mostly about discrimination against fat people but that's more political than scientific

“Silting corpolites! Yeah, I'll handle the evacuation. Have Silver transfer to the ground team as well. I think she'd be more useful there as I'll be needing all the hands I can get to move those geodes as quickly as possible.”
