"The idea of being punished by an invisible force for saying a bad word is literally something I was terrified of in Catholic school and it’s creepy that corporate sponsors are living in kids’ heads the way God and Satan lived in ours."
This legitimately took the air out of me when I read it. Absolutely horrifying parallel, and you're completely right.
Picture it: Scranton, Pennsylvania
The year: 2033
A young boy closes out of his Zoom classes for the day, and his mind burns with a terrible secret, a sin he has committed. His grandmother has recently passed away, and he made the mistake of informing his class using the word he had only ever heard come from the mouth of adults: “died”.
Awkward silence and discomfort were palpable from his classmates even over zoom, and for once that discomfort didn’t seem to be coming from the plague of radiation enhanced locusts outside of their windows forcing them to stay home.
“Do you mean she is… unalive?” His friend asks him in a private chat bubble, and he realizes what he has done.
Later that day, burning with guilt and unable to focus on providing content for the school assigned neurolink headset he wears to upload his homework to directly from his mind, he realizes something must be done about this. He has done wrong, and something deep inside of him tells him that he has sinned in the eyes of his corporate sponsors.
He doesn’t have any corporate sponsors or even know what a corporate sponsorship is because he is seven, but it is something he feels within his bones and deep within his soul, the invisible force he knows will punish him for saying a bad word.
With a heavy heart and shaking hands he does the only thing he can think to do. He goes to X and finds the corporate page he thinks will be his best bet for receiving absolution.
He tags @ the company and begins to type “Forgive me Raid Shadow Legends, for I have sinned…”

I wanted to compliment my partner's butt in Shakespearean using Google's AI text message rewriting tool, and it wouldn't let me.
Tumblr media
Unironically, this bullshit is the exact fucking reason why I hate capitalism. This is a private message that would have only ever existed between me and my partner, but even like this we can't escape corporate sanitization. Fuck this goddamn country, fuck this worthless economy, let me compliment my partner's butt in Shakespearean.

“you don’t like the proliferation of terms like Unalive outside of TikTok because you realize that you’re aging out of youth culture and it makes you uncomfortable!”
no I don’t like it because there’s something INCREDIBLY dystopian about being forced to soften terms for basic parts of the human experience like death and sex (and even more so terms for oppressed minorities- call me a “le-dollar sign-bian” and I will bite you) purely because advertisers and corporations demand it

If you are an American artist/fan, change your pixiv account region! Because there's new censorship
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Number 5. If your drawing has no 'educational/scientific/artistic value' it won't be allowed to exist. These new censorship are absolute nonsense pushed by credit card company and conservative politicians. Fucking bonkers
It's the same thing when Tumblr banned NSFW and they promised that 'artistic nudity' will still be 'allowed'. I hope every purist on the internet realized that when they whine over anime fan art they are repeating what conservative billionaires and politician are pushing:
The death of art...

IDK how people are so surprised that Paul Simms is throwing out flimsy excuses for why Nandermo can’t be canon.
Like do you guys not remember who owns FX and Hulu?

The political climate right now as a queer writer with a deep appreciation for the arts and especially literature is fucking abysmal. Writer friends are yelled at to delete queerness or violence from their stories. And you still think this is just about someone getting in a hissy fit over Blorbo 1 being too young for Blorbo 2 and someone writing about them fuckin.

I will never get tired of hearing people complain about the euphemisms or censored versions of words used on tiktok. I have friends that are on tiktok and there have been times we’ve been texting and they’ve used “unalive” or “seggs” in PRIVATE CONVERSATIONS and not accidentally, they honest to god thought the censored version of the word was what I’d prefer to read. The day I hear “unalive” in an in person conversation is the day I fake my death and move to the woods
yeah it's
deeply disturbing
and contrary to what Certain People got out of my post, I do not think this is the fault of the TikTok users in question! they're just doing their best to talk about their lives and form community in an incredibly toxic environment!
but...that doesn't make it any less off-putting or frightening when it starts becoming the norm outside of that environment
corporate-driven censorship should not become part of common courtesy

Corporate Puritanism
Back in the olden days people were puritan because they feared God's invincible hand, but now we are entering a new age of puritanism where sexual content are driven to death because of the invincible hand of capitalism and corporate tyranny, you can't even say 'sex' on youtube. The most ironic thing is, there are people, even those who claimed to be progressive and hates capitalism who cheer for the death of sexual content and even supporting corporate puritanism because sex is 'icky and bad'.
Yes I'm looking at you the people who say NSFW should never be allowed on tumblr again

Charles Koch of Koch Industries claims to be a Libertarian interested in Free Speech. He points to FIRE, the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression, a group he funds along with other far-right billionaire organizations, as proof.
However, he has recently funded, lobbied for, and sponsored a flurry of anti-protest legislation which criminalizes protest (and even support of protest) if it targets his massive corporation and its respective oil projects.
As is often the case with the most aggressive "freedom" and "liberty" advocates, it is free speech for me but not for thee.
