As someone who made the Corruptianne and Corrupted Sprig theory, I will ascend if it happens in The Hardest Thing.
But if it doesn’t I’ll be fine with it and at least I don’t have to deal with another Apollo joke

yoooooo so I saw the master list and questions about corruptiAnne,
what bad things happen in it? is it more of a everything that can go wrong will go wrong? or is it her powers slowly but steadily corrupting her? and if so how? I also just realised that it may be in your tags and I will return with more q's lol im hella interested in seeing what comes of it and if you have any more new info thanks love ya boo
CorruptiAnne my beloved! The AU actually partially belongs to @fermented-writers-block but it's, er, actually neither of those things, but also kinda both?
Basically, and I'm really botching this description, Anne has a lot of problems to work through, and through a series of bad decisions finds herself as a sort of opposing force to the other characters.
She refuses to trust Sasha again, she focuses on saving Marcy and stopping Andrias and starts disregarding the safety of others in favor of her end goal, and she even takes charge of the Toad Army because she has less emotional connections to them than she does to the frogs of Wartwood, and doesn't really want to hurt the Plantars. She and Sasha get a... gosh, would this be round three now? The Core is involved, etc.
It's really a fun theory and it's sorta supposed to be about making mistakes and being forced to fight to keep the changes you've made rather than devolving back into bad habits, and it's also a bit about not taking too much responsibility and pushing everyone who tries to help you aside.
Pickle will probably have more to say on the AU, since they're the one who developed it in the first place, but I'm the one who's trying to turn it into a bit of a story-ish format. It's a fun AU, honestly, and something we legitimately thought could happen in S3B.

Purple’s Odd Usage in Amphibia
Simply put, the way purple is incorporated into the show is weird. So much so that I suspect there's actually a secret color quadfecta hidden right in front of us. Let me explain:
We all know how much the magenta green cyan RGB color triad has been emphasized throughout the show, from the gems of the music box to the Red Strength-Green Wit-Blue Heart meaning of the girls’ calamity powers. Yet despite said constant emphasis on this triad, something that has always stuck out to me like a sore thumb are the girls’ color palettes.
Tumblr media
For one of THE primary main characters of the show and for someone whose calamity power is BLUE in theming, Anne’s design and most prominent outfits the first two seasons almost overwhelmingly tend to either center around the color purple or use purple as a distinguishing highlight. And despite both multiple chances to acquire new clothes and having brought multiple changes of clothes in her backpack - particularly to the point Bessie and Microangelo’s whole subplot pointed out she seriously needed a change - she still held onto her same purple uniform and merely added a chest plate over it.
Tumblr media
In fact, comparing the colors of the trio’s pre-Amphibia designs makes Anne stand out even more, as her association with purple completely precedes even meeting Sasha. And strangely enough, factoring in Sasha’s blue jackets with her magenta themed clothes leads to her and Marcy’s green fulfilling the show’s emphasized RGB color triad on their own. Even in Season 2 where Sasha’s armor transitioned to a more solidly red theming from Season 1′s neutral muddy browns as the seeds of growth were planted, the blue theming in the trio’s designs shifted over to Marcy’s skirt patch and cloak as a primary aspect of her outfit, whereas Anne’s outfit only received a light highlight of blue at a very late stage of the season for just a few episodes.
It has yet to be fully seen where the girls’ changing designs might be heading for this final third of the show, but as it stands, I strongly suspect they will continue to center around and further explore this mysterious Red Green Blue Purple color quadfecta.
Especially considering it also seems to inherently subtly be a large part of either the Calamity Box, portals, and or the power of the gems at that like explored under the cut:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For example, in the S3 intro, the entire music box glows purple, and in True Colors, while it’s hard to tell the exact colors used for the multicolored flash coming from the center of the gems, the sparkles coming off of said flash are subtly colored purple at that.
Furthermore, even the original intro/sequence of the girls being transported to Amphibia features the easy to miss inclusion of purple as an understated fourth color as seen with the four frames the box completely disappears like indicated with the color of the moon, and from the colors Anne flashes as she fully arrives in Amphibia (there’s a few frames where she’s see through or briefly flickers out of existence in between these distinct colors, and white is more of a neutral color than its own distinct thing):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, none of the second half of glowing happens in Marcy or Sasha’s theme song takeover, but that can be chalked up to a bunch of factors like the takeovers skipping over the flashing or including it in Anne’s as THE primary intro with the biggest budget and most important version to detail.
Either way, as the confusing mess of colors with yellows and multicolored lightning from the box during the first second after opening like can be presumed to be it essentially “charging up” or preparing the portal process, the four distinct colors of what seems to be the actual teleportation itself still stand out due to being part of the most important aspect of that sequence.
And fascinatingly, True Colors seems to distinguish purple as its own color even further when one takes stock of Andrias’ flashback to before the box’s theft.
Tumblr media
In the present day, only the castle glowed blue out of the entire city upon activation, Andrias’ throne remains unlit, and the box’s pedestal is distinctively colored red, blue, and green as a reminder for those wondering.
On a side note, while purple does have its ancient history of being strongly associated with royalty, Andrias’ implicit role as Anne’s narrative foil does make it a bit striking how -with brown being a neutral color for clarification- his trio also splits up this RGBP color quadfecta in the frog with magenta/red, the toad with green, and Andrias with blue while continuing to be decked out in purple between the past and the present.
Altogether, while it's possible to argue that the show crew simply just randomly used purple as a decorative color for fun, I find purple's consistent apparent usage as a distinct color from the magenta green cyan RGB color show triad in A) a scene which has been repeatedly emphasized throughout the show and whose direct surrounding context has yet to be seen, B) both main variations of nearly every episode's opening and as part of THE show's central artifact/the first few things both openings show, C) several glaring discrepancies between how the box is used in the present day and the past, and D) THE main human character's primary outfit despite it raising more questions about why Anne doesn't have blue in her design a bit too much to brush off so easily.
Now, for what the hidden meaning purple could have for Anne and the calamity powers, it’s rather difficult to say. I’m not confident relying on color symbolism due to the hundreds of differing subjective interpretations out there. And relying on the show itself isn’t quite possible yet due to the current lack of attention or explicit meaning attributed to the color so far -especially since the liberal the usage of the RGB color triad and the rarity of purple makes it hard to distinguish where to look.
Overall, this post is meant to draw attention to the weirdness surrounding purple in Amphibia, and while I haven’t been able to come to any actual conclusions yet, I hope that bringing in some new perspectives can help with doing so.
That being said, there are two places that I could see as potential future avenues the show might explore.
First is the easy to overlook split second detail of Valeriana's teeth and pupils glowing purple in Bizarre Bazaar, which given her mysterious order and her position with the inner workings of the second temple I'd say marks this as a potential Chekov's detail:
Tumblr media
And second is Hop Pop's berry rhymes from the start of Wally and Anne. When you look at the episode as a whole, the entire opening's focus on said rhymes sticks out from how little of a bearing it actually has on the rest of the episode or on the characters. That, and from how it's the only instance within the entire show where pairings of colors rather than just each color on their own are assigned any sort of meaning whatsoever as follows:
"Blue and red, instantly dead."
"Green and red, be well fed." / "Or was that 'Green and red, instantly dead?"
"Purple and green heals your spleen!"
Note: The following is mainly me going on a highly speculative discussion on the rhymes’ hypothetical meanings and my personal interpretations, so take them as you will
As an aside, while the first two's meanings are rather abstract and hard to decipher to say the least, the episode's focus on Hop Pop's confusion about what the actual ending to the pairing of Green with Red is seems likely to hold some foreshadowing or intentional clue to it. From that, either both meanings are true, neither are true, or it's a matter of figuring out which one is more correct/a case of it seeming one way but actually being the other (though given Sprig didn't instantly die from shoving a bunch of red and green berries into his mouth, my money's on the first positive interpretation as the correct one).
For the third rhyme however, I feel it's important to note that it was said while Hop Pop and the Plantars were walking off and thus quieter and not as easy to hear as the first two, and that as one might notice in light of the rest of this post, it features another case of purple interrupting the show's emphasis of the RGB triad. After all, if it was just about a color triad, the third rhyme ought to have been about Green and BLUE berries instead.
And in contrast to the vague ‘warning/good’ meaning of the first two rhymes, this this rhyme also refers to a specific bodily organ. Perhaps the writers just latched onto the word purely for its rhyming capability with 'green" since medically speaking, it mainly functions as a blood filter, but with some of the symbolism behind the organ, well...
Tumblr media
Sure is interesting how "spleen" essentially has become a sister word to 'heart' with an emphasis on anger and such in our modern lexicon. Particularly with the way the primarily purple themed Anne Boonchuy holds onto the blue power of Heart, and how the sole berry rhyme that breaks away from the RGB color theming is about the pairing of purple and green together.
I know I brought up before how the RGBP color quadfecta was split between the girls' pre-Amphibia/friendship designs, but with how Anne's current outfit has red and blue take center stage over her old customary purple plus the way the color quadfecta theming could be seen as having shifted around in S2, it's honestly making my brain supply a hypothetical scenario where next time we see Sasha, her clothes have taken on a purple hue, while Anne's gradually starts losing hers over the course of the season.
Tumblr media
After all, Anne's emotions are likely to be put to the test with the amount of repression she has going on and what she'll have to deal with when she gets back to Amphibia, and it would be thematically fitting in several ways if Anne and Sasha find themselves having essentially swapped narrative positions in a third season finale sword fight while wearing the primary colors the other had started out with pre-Amphibia. And there is the whole question about what "Blue and red, instantly dead" could mean as a color pairing, or how the third berry rhyme is about purple and green together "healing the [insert body organ associated with the heart/temper]," which in this scenario could be interpreted as Marcy and a now purple Sasha helping a blue and red Anne with her emotions in some capacity.
Of course, that is just a VERY wild speculative scenario at the moment and it doesn't quite get us any closer to the answer of what purple might specifically mean on its own in the context of the show or the color quadfecta, but like my good ole pal @mira-blue would say, I wonder if all of this together might mean anything...

My (or, well, PickleDPie's) take on the Corruptianne theory:
Quick taglist, because more people should know about this possibility: @hughjidiot, @iamthelordoftime, @sonofrose, @starsfic, @waybrights, @magickatzuh
Okay theory time
So I'm not sure if you're all aware, but there's an ongoing theory (which has yet to be confirmed or not) called the Corruptianne theory, or Corrupted Anne theory. The theory usually implies Anne either being possessed by the Core (Which is probably not happening any time soon), or snapping from the betrayals she's been through and lose control of her powers. There's only one problem with the latter, though. You see, Anne's not the type to hold grudges. Now, if she had no one around to stick by her side after being betrayed by her closest friends, then she might go down Andrias's path. But she's able to avoid that, because unlike Andrias, she still had people she could rely on after being betrayed by her closest friends, who happen to be both her biological and adoptive families. Not only that, but even after what Sasha and Marcy did, she still wants to save them and make up with them. So it seems like the Corruptianne theory has no chance of happening, right? Wrong. You see, while I was on the Amphibia Discord, someone brought up the theory, and a user by the name of PickleDPie suggested that, rather than having her become like Andrias, she'd sway too far in the other direction and try to get her friends to stay. This is what brings up my take on the theory, that rather than refusing to let go of her betrayals, she'll take the inverse of King Andrias's line: "That's the thing about friends, isn't it? The more you love them, the more it hurts when they go." Taking his words to heart, but not in the way that we think, Anne will go to extreme methods to try to keep her friends from leaving her even after all that's happened, because, by that logic, if she were to prevent them from leaving, it would hurt less, right?

I've been thinking...
What if in season 3 Anne spends time and energy fighting Andrias’ robot invaders, unveiling the mystery of the calamity box and the Plantars connection to it, protecting them from the government, and looking for a way back to Amphibia, maybe even getting some hint at Marcy's survival.
...And when she goes back she finds Andrias on the back foot, Sasha's new rebellion having all but won already, Sasha with full support not only of the toads, but newts and frogs as well, and Marcy already rescued or having freed herself.
And she doesn’t accept it.
She put so much effort into getting back, understanding the Calamity Box and the gems, trying to master her powers... and when she gets back all that’s left is the final push?
Oh, sure she is happy everyone’s ok, but after everything that happened her trust in Sasha is destroyed and Marcy’s own betrayal still hurts. and worst of all, now that she doesn’t have some big fight or rescue ahead of her she is forced to face those feelings... except she doesn’t.
Like she’s already done before she pushes those feelings aside.
Sasha and Marcy try talking to her, to apologize properly, to make things right, and Anne gives a hollow “it’s ok”, but they can tell it isn’t genuine and try to talk to her about it.
And Anne eventually explodes, how can they expect her to trust them, to just try to move on as if nothing happened after everything they’ve done, after how much they’ve hurt her, but then the other amphibians, including the Wartwood frogs, tell Anne that she is being unreasonable, that yes Sasha and Marcy did bad things and made many mistakes but they’re trying to be better, to change, to atone, and that Anne can’t keep holding onto those old mistakes and injuries, and the bad memories that come with them when they are making an honest effort for reconciliation.
But Anne refuses to listen and tries to turn to the Plantars for support, only for them to tell her everyone else is right, they know it was painful but the other girls have suffered as much, are clearly sorry about everything, had their own circumstances behind their actions, and are trying to do better, even showing the evidence of how they helped keep their loved ones safe from Andrias, and how the rebellion has united frogs, toads, and newts.
And that’s the last straw for Anne, she sees this as a betrayal.
She’s always been very “with or against me”, and now even her own adoptive family is not supporting her when she is clearly right. So, she leaves, runs away, inadvertently leaving herself open for Andrias or The Night to offer her a deal, because they know what being betrayed by friends is like.

So we know Marcy's possesed or wintersoidered and then there's corruptianne theory which could be possible. After all her powers seem to brought out of anger/rage also make her go feral.
Tumblr media
Some people have pointed out that the colors of these two herons being green and blue could be foreshadowing. And heron imagery/symbolism is used often
Tumblr media
Anne being on the opposing side
Sasha has two swords with herons that might be something.
So like what if in a paralleling turn of events the now corrupt Anne and still possesed Marcy invade Wartwood. Sorta like these herons did.
Tumblr media
And like that night where Spring and Polly's parents were killed this time another Planter is taken.
Hop Pop! Dun, Dun, Dun
Will this happen most likely not, but hey it's just a very lose theory. Maybe a good fanfic idea though!

Burden of the Heart
Part 1 - Part 2
~~~~~
Even after her fight with the King on her short lived powers, the group still fled to the portal.
This wasn’t a win.
Sasha was going to be left behind, fighting the King who only knew madness.
Anne thought at least Marcy would be safe with her.
They would all make it home, rebound with a plan, save Sasha and finally stop the King.
Then all of this would be finally over.
None of that mattered when Marcy didn’t make it into the portal.
None of the short thinking mattered when Marcy was stabbed by the one Amphibian she thought she could trust. The one they all thought they could trust.
The warm, golden glow, straight through her friends chest, the fear in Marcy’s eyes as she knew.
She wasn’t going to survive this. There was no way she could.
Even so the last thing Marcy ever said to Anne or anyone was apologies.
‘I’m sorry.’
‘For everything.’
Anne was supposed to protect her, Anne was supposed to keep them all safe.
But now she was back on Earth, two friends short then when the adventure began and deep in her mind, she felt as if it was her own fault.
__________________________
Being back home, for the time being, was hardly easy. Somehow the King had figured out how to send his robotic forces to Earth even in small numbers the day she and the Planters had arrived on Earth.
Then while trying to adjust back to home life that took the little time she had. Having to explain talking frogs to her parents and trying to keep the plantars a secret. To anyone who bothered to notice without freaking out was also an interesting ordeal.
Despite there being a kind of moment of peace in her home, with her two families together.
Anne still needed to go back to Amphibia, Sasha was still there, alone.
Marcy was… still alive and alone.
On top of that, in the back of her head as for the Plantars. They didn’t belong in her world as much as it pained her. For their inevitable separation once she figured out how to get them home was bound to happen sooner or later.
After trials and distractions from the new problems of Earth, along with making new friends.
Amphibia was just waiting on the other side of the portal, where hopefully the end of this journey was waiting to be completed, it just needed to be started again.
“Now Anne, promise me you won’t be gone another six months this time.” Her mother said, holding her daughter tighter at the sight of the otherworldly portal floating just feet away from them.
“I agree with your mother Anne, while I trust you’ll come back to us just fine with Hop Pop looking after you for us again. I would appreciate to see you home sooner than later, also Domino gets more aggressive without you home. It’s hard to defend ourselves.” Her father chuckled trying to make light of the situation, his voice wavering.
“Don’t worry! I promise I’ll be home, definitely sooner than later! I know me defeating a crazy power hungry King sounds bad. But I’ve got my family with me for it, and the other side has my friends waiting too! If I don’t go back now that we’ve got the chance, the King is going to come through and conquer the Earth. I can’t let that happen after everything he’s done!”
Even though Anne had given the ‘easiest’ understanding version of her time in Amphibia and why she needed to go back. She hadn't told the full truth in exactly how dangerous Andrias or this trip back could be.
“Anne sweetie we understand that, but you're still our daughter! We know you're going to figure out a way to go back either way, despite our feelings, we just want you to be safe while you do it.” Anne’s mother spoke as she gave one last loving glance to Anne holding her face.
“I know Mom, Dad, thank you for understanding. I promise I’ll be back before you even know it!”
“Yes, Anne is completely safe with us Mr and Mrs. Boonchuy, I promise I will also get her home safe and sound.” Hop pop spoke up near the portal that was still awaiting.
“I have to go, it’s now or never. I love you guys so much!” Hugging her parents one last time and saying their goodbyes.
The group entered the portal back to Amphibia once more.
Anne and the Core’s Flowering Flames
After talking the past few weeks with @sonofrose, @thesugarcookieday, and @mira-blue, I wanted to expand upon a recent discovery of mine. For those wanting a TLDR, Anne’s S3 shirt design was explicitly noted by Matt to feature flame/lotus dual symbolism that, unusually, the Core seems to share as well in it’s most distinguishing feature:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thanks to @sonofrose for being the one to bring this to my attention, but as it seems, one potential direction for deciphering what this shared symbolism could mean might lie in the general cultural metaphors through which fire and nirvana are linked together in Buddhism:
Tumblr media
While I doubt Buddhism itself has much direct influence on the show, and I don't want to dive too deeply into a subject I am not familiar with, it has had a major impact on Thailand's history, and the general concept of fire essentially representing the mistaken belief/effort to make one's 'self' "changeless and ever-lasting" seems particularly fitting to me as a possible influence behind the Core's design.
Specifically, in being the biggest antagonist of a show explicitly themed around change, and especially from Andrias' comments pointing towards the Core being intended as a way to cheat death and live forever.
From what I understand about the three fires in Buddhism, they are a metaphor for the fires of suffering in one's life that arise from attachments, and more generally, I want to focus more on the symbolic ideas presented that we are the ones keeping said "fires" burning, and that the metaphorical extinguishing of the fires is tied to nirvana - and by extension, spiritual awakening and enlightenment. There's a lot of specific differences and details surrounding these concepts I don't want to clog this post up with, but overall, I have some suspicions on how this may tie into Anne's design and its potential implications for her arc across this coming season half.
First off, to me, Anne's shirt symbol curiously looks more like the outline of a fire/lotus, almost as if something is supposed to fill it in. Because of the oddly shared symbolism between the Core and Anne, it seems to me that the Core is either a second counterpart to Anne in some manner alongside Andrias, and or that the whole Darcy situation may eventually get supplanted by "Danne" - aka some kind of combination between Anne and the Core.
However, unlike whatever turns out to actually the case with Darcy, I feel it would be better fitting if Anne as the "Final Annetagonist" was much, much more firmly in the driver's seat than having her agency forcibly taken away or such, and if it's that she latches onto an emotionally regressive idea or path of stagnation that Sasha and Marcy have to work together to talk her.
Anne has an established tendency to go overboard with taking responsibilities onto herself as well as to go with what she feels is right/basing her self worth on how well she can do something for others like @borkthemork explored in their analysis post on Sprig's Birthday. Taking into account the incredibly emotionally confusing fractures in the girls' relationships as well as the realistic nuances written into the show, Anne could very easily take it onto herself to "fix" the cracks between them, only to be caught off guard by just how hard it actually would be with all of their deep-rooted and recent baggage.
Contrasting Andrias' implicit attitude of avoiding creating attachments and friendships with others to pre-emptively save himself from pain, I could see Anne spiraling into trying to hold desperately onto Sasha and Marcy and take control on where their relationship is headed/to force it backwards to a less broken past state because it'd be so emotionally painful to acknowledge and actually accept that maybe, just maybe, their friendship can't work with the way they all are right now.
Currently, that is.
Overall, rather than some huge fight with the trio on one side and the Core as an external antagonist on the other or Anne being turned evil, I think it would feel more thematically appropriate if the final conflict centers on the three girls' interpersonal issues. Particularly, if Anne's emotional fire gets symbolically ignited and encouraged by the Core into essentially an ugly mix of Sasha and Marcy's old issues.
An amalgamation of Sasha's control freak habits and her old focus on pushing towards making everything the best she thinks it could be, and Marcy's drive to be of use to others out of low self esteem and her insecurities making her feel lost without her friends/efforts to avoid pain, this "Final Annetagonist" would feature Anne's own version of struggling to deal with change in her friendship with the others.
And in the process, it would open the gates for Sasha and Marcy to symbolically face their own issues and overcome them, while at the same time helping Anne with her issues before the fire within her consumes herself as well.
A fire metaphorically related both to potentially the concept of attachments as well as symbolizing Anne's inner emotions, thus bringing us all the way back to the topic of the combined fire/lotus dual symbolism between Anne and the Core. After all, just like how how we are the ones who provide the fuel for the fire in Buddhist thought, Super Anne's design features quite a few tree branches and leaves. Branches and leaves which are also rather flammable and good for building a fire...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Essentially, Anne's most iconic design/her Super Anne form already metaphorically has plenty of fuel for a fire to burn, and all such potential kindling needs is just a spark -not even a full flame at that- to eventually be all set ablaze and turned to dust. Unless, of course, the fire is halted early enough that is.
Thus far, Anne hasn't been framed at all as a desired host by the Core and it'd just be derivative of the current Darcy situation/make the interpersonal conflict a bit less personal between the three girls if she loses her autonomy. But whether she gets somehow infected by a fragment of the Core like the portion in Andrias' crown, absorbs it, or winding up in a negative enough headspace that she might even be manipulated into willingly taking it into herself, her fire/lotus symbol would be completed with the final puzzle piece, and presumably leaning more towards the former flame symbolism than the latter lotus symbolism to represent Anne being turned away from her spiritual awakening and growth at that point in time.
Tumblr media
The Core may not directly set Anne on fire, but it could very well essentially hand her a lighter and encourage her to use it - a different kind of toxic internalized influence/ideas/thoughts than the ones Anne had started off the series with. Since then, Anne has learned to do the right thing no matter how much she didn't want to, but this whole situation would certainly put that lesson to the test.
Sasha and Marcy had their own experiences with wanting to go back to the way things were and likely will have their own revelations this season on how unhealthy trying to do so can be, and thus would be able to recognize the same in Anne, challenging her to not do the wrong thing even no matter how much she wants to for the sake of their friendship much like they themselves had.
In that very process of change, Anne could simultaneously quell the metaphorical fire of her emotions, expel a metaphorically and literally internalized toxic influence, and extinguish both her own AND the Core's "fires."
Perhaps the chance may still remain for the flames to rise up once again much like how emotions and habits can be difficult to unlearn and or change, and it'd certainly be painful to let some space between the girls to figure themselves out before they can be in a good enough headspace to try again for a healthy relationship.
But if something like this happens in the show, overall, I see Anne -after a difficult internal and interpersonal struggle- managing to realize her spiritual awakening and fully embracing change, with the lotus the true final dominant symbolism in her life.
