#222 Corsola (Galar Form)
Ooooh contender for saddest lil guy 🥺 The main part of Galar Corsola is just the dead rock/pebble bit, and then the rest is ghostly spikes

A while ago someone asked me what sort of pokemon team Steven would have... and I know I’m VERY late to this, but here it is!
Earl would actually have a Corsola. Initially I considered a Galarian Corsola variant for her... but that made me sad.
Bonus points to those who figure out what skull Cubone is wearing. :)

Hello you should infodump about water types right neow
I'll just pick one and stick with it otherwise it won't be coherent
Corsola up until about 200 years ago was only found in the southern hemisphere, they're technically invasive species north of the equator (except for Alola, they're native there). They tend to play pretty nice with local species at least around the Kanto-Johto-Hoenn area, though, so if you live around here you'll probably just see them referred to as 'non-native'. That's just the standard pink variant though, a lot of people are well aware of Galarian Corsola, what some call the 'bleached' variant. Galarian Corsola are 100% native to the isles, but didn't start looking like that until the industrial revolution was in full swing. They used to be a vibrant green, and because it was recorded as having access to grass-type moves, there's a lot of theorizing there. Some people think it had a symbiotic relationship with a species of algae that gave it energy, and that's why they tend to constantly have nutritional deficits today to the point where their only options for nutrition are directly sucking life out of other creatures or feeding them specially formulated diets, and the former is so rough on them and their system that it essentially breaks their corporeal form and they 'evolve' into Cursola. Genuinely there is not a single thing about modern-day Galarian Corsola that is not deeply upsetting.

Some of Goh's Pokémon that Serena Could Own
Going in regional order...
Tumblr media
Pinsir: Like in canon, she's a gentle soul. If she had a Nature, it'd be Timid. She falls for Ash's Heracross, but Heracross is more interested in plant sap.
Tumblr media
Butterfree: He would become her main Gigantamax Pokémon if I let her have one instead of Vivillon.
Tumblr media
Raichu: Yes, this is cliché, but I like the idea of a Raichu starring alongside Ash's Pikachu.
Tumblr media
Misdreavus: Random fact of the post: before Mystical Fire became a TM in generation eight, Delphox and Mismagius were the only two Pokémon that could learn the move.
Tumblr media
Absol: Serena owns one in the games. Her manga counterpart also owns one.
Tumblr media
Altaria: Serena owns one in the games, and they were one of the Pokémon I can picture her using back then. These days, they don't Mega Evolve due to Lisia's Altaria.
Tumblr media
Lilligant: Lilligant I consider a Pokémon Cilan would own, but I prefer Serena having the Unovan form rather than the Hisuian variant. However, I'd prefer her to have a Whimsicott.
Tumblr media
Frogadier: Mostly due to Pokémon Masters EX and the manga letting Serena have a Greninja of her own.
Tumblr media
Galarian Corsola: A call back to Serena missing a Johtonian Corsola in the anime.
Tumblr media
Falinks: This one's strange, but I like the idea of her having Pokémon that don't fit the feminine or cute mold. I can see her bonding with them and helping keep them in line before catching them.
Tumblr media
Alcremie: This is a Pokémon I wanted Serena to have before I chose Butterfree as her Gigantamax Pokémon. One of her passions is baking, so I thought she could help her out.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cinderace, Inteleon, and Grookey: I once talked with a friend on Discord, and they pointed out that all three of the Galar Starters fit Serena in some way. Were it not for me choosing Swampert and possibly Grovyle to complete the Fire, Water, Grass trio, I'd go for it.

I think it's sad that Corsola only gets an evo for its variant that literally died. So have an evolution where it gets to be a bit more biodiversity and thrive!

Jellicent Facts
Tumblr media
(Art by celestial080 on Deviantart)
-The scientific name for Jellicent is "spiritus regius polypus" which translates to "Royal spirit octopus"
-Jellicent are cnidaria, making them relatives of Pokemon like Tentacruel and (surprisingly), Corsola
-Jellicent are rare to find in the wild since they spend so much of their time in the deepest parts of the ocean
-While a lot of people are afraid of Jellicent's way of eating, Jellicent rarely view people as food and mostly hunt other water types
-That being said, they have been known to hover around cruise ships. They are rarely actively hostile to the people on board however, and it could just be them watching humans around their territory
-Jelicent will make homes with other members of its colony around a bunch of sunken ships
-Jellicent form hierarchies under the water. A dominant leader will rule over the others of its colony, usually living in the biggest sunken ship. You can tell who the leader is by how big the crown is; the ones who eat the most souls are the most powerful
Tumblr media
-Unlike a lot of other species with sexuak dimirphism, both the males and the females evolved to show off the the other sex; not just the males showing off to females
-Female Jellicent don't actually have mouths; they're markings that they use to distract prey. They can make them move using illusions (headcanon from @adobe-outdesign )
-The Pringles company uses a yellow male Jellicent as their mascot
-In old Galar, Frillish and Jellicent were often owned by royalty to show wealth
-Speaking of the Royalty symbolism, there is actually an old Southern Galarian myth of a wealthy frillish lady being courted by a poor skrelp. The myth is referred to as "Dúlamán" and they use seaweed as a metaphor to tell a story
-Researchers suspect a deep sea variant that is a lot bigger, thinner, and more sinister looking
-Like most ghost types, Jellicent have a long lifespan

⚠GHOST TYPE APPRECIATION POST⚠
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Are ya ready, kids? Because I've saved the best for last!
Pokemon's Ghost type is perhaps my favorite unified group of fictional characters. I love the spooky vibes they carry with them, I love the design choices all around, I love the various takes on the theme of death hidden behind the facade of a babby little Nintendo game for kids. Let's go down the list, shall we?
We've got:
The tricksy little miscreants that are simply Up To No Good (Hoopa, Misdreavus)
The genuinely malicious ones that Actually Want You Dead (Spiritomb, Palossand)
The ones that only want love from humans (Mimikyu, Banette)
The ones that used to be humans (Phantump, Yamask)
The pretty ones that'll slowly lure you to your own demise (Frillish, Chandelure, Frosslass, Sensu Oricorio)
The regional variants that are essentially darker recolors slapped with sick-looking fire (Marowak, Typhlosion)
The ones that are literally just inanimate objects with souls (Sinistea, Honedge, Golett, Dhelmise)
The embodiments of some of those themes of death that I mentioned before, from the resentment that lingers in one's very soul (Hisuian Zoroark) to the extinction of a species (Galarian Corsola) to a warrior who literally wears a reminder of its fallen comrades (Basculegion)
The ones that are corruptions of other Pokemon's designs (Gengar, Mimikyu again, all of the regional variants)
The actual, literal Poke-Devil (Giratina)
So yeah. Ghost is my favorite Pokemon type and always will be. No contest.

I finally have all 151 of the Kanto Pokémon! Almost 8 years into playing! I dun’ catch’d’em all 😭
The final one was Mr. Mime, and I had a Galarian variant pop-up as the bonus for completing 5 daily challenges. Been talking mad shit about Mr. Mime for like 2 years waiting for that motherfucker (lol) to show up.
Now I need Corsola to show up to complete Johto… 9 year old me playing Pokémon Red or older me playing Silver would be proud 😆
The medal (waited until several minutes after I first posted this to show up like it was also in disbelief):

One thing about me is I love making lists and I love checking things off those lists. Normally this stops me from crocheting a pokemon I have already crocheted or different variants of the same pokemon. HOWEVER, this time for Corsola I have made another list that I CAN check it off of. Ghost type pokemon, of which I now have done 43/73 😁

I made this thread over on twatter in response to someone asking what Pokemon the Inuyasha cast would have and as a Pokemon nerd I put waaaaay too much effort into it. I thought about coming up with movesets and all but that might be a little too nerdy. XD Either way I thought I'd share it here too in case anyone gets a kick out of it. I gave everyone (important) a legendary/mythical ace for funzies. ----
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kagome has a team based mostly around support and healing. Fairy/Grass is her specialty due to her spirit powers and role as medicinal healer. ---
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Inuyasha initially wanted his Eevee to evolve into Umbreon for the power and rarity, but wasn't ever able to. Then he thought about an Espeon upon meeting Kagome and wanting to protect her, before he decided to leave the Eevee strong as it was. It has a multitude of potential. ---
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shippou gets a lot of comfort from snuggling with his fellow trickster fox. It reminds him of someone... ---
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Miroku... is fairly straightforward. XD ---
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sango's Corsola turned into the ghost variant after a certain event... ---
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sesshoumaru's Umbreon has more potent poison than usual. ---
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Grumpy uncle and reverent sunshine. ---
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Spot the theme. XD ---
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I admittedly took the piss a little with this one XD --- That's all I have ideas for off the top of my head but if there's another character you want me to do this for, hmu! I'd love to see other people's interpretations/ideas, too!

★This is for a larger poll! Matchups are chosen at random. Choose your favorite, whoever wins moves on to the quarter finals!★
(yes regional variants are going to be part of the polls! Form changes sadly will not be. Variants will show up in their respective generations!)

Are their any Pokemon unique to Cove Island ?
There is! In the cove, there’s a regional variant of the Ludicolo line. I don’t have any pictures saved on my Poryphone, so I’ll do my best to describe them.
Since this variant evolved to live in a saltwater cove rather than freshwater lakes or rivers, the “lilypad” on their head is now resembles coral. This allows the Lotads to more easily blend in with Corsola and other reef Pokémon to avoid predation. The coral-like on their head grows with them, with the Ludicolo’s “coral” looking almost like a crown. These corals also come in a variety of sizes and colors—no two Cove Island Lotad, Lombre, or Ludicolo have been observed with the same head structure! I think that this enhances their camouflage, considering the Pokémon still live in small groups. It’s harder for a potential predator to tell the real coral from the Ludicolo line if they all look different!
Rather than the Hoennian coloration, the Cove Island line have swapped their green for a teal or turquoise to better camouflage in shallow water. Their diet consists of plant life and crustaceans like Corphish or Krabby.
One major difference in terms of behavior is that Cove Island Ludicolo are far less interested in humans than their Hoennian counterparts. Researchers think this is because for most of the species’ existence, the island wasn’t inhabited by people. The Institute, Ranger Station, and small town were only built 25 years ago. The Ludicolo are very social with other species of Pokémon, though.
All in all, they’re a super cool niche variant of the Ludicolo line! A couple of my colleagues here are currently focused on observing how the Ludicolo build their complex social relationships.
