I was thinking about a modern!Shogun AU and a background for Mariko

And you guys know, modern!Mariko would be such a corrupt's daughter, for some reason in my head. Her father would be a corrupt politician or even a mafia boss, so all the shit that happened in the canon would happen, but, in some different way of course, and we would have a whole construction of Mariko trying to deconstruct all the image, associated with things about her family name, that people have about her now and at the same time trying to avenge her family.

This just makes me think that she would marry Buntaro for nothing more than alliances, the union of important families, or until her father promised her to the Toda family, so there would be the same reason as to why Mariko didn't die with her family, but, I don't know, we're talking about the modern world, I can only imagine Mariko being a classic badass independent strong woman, even though she loves her family very much, she doesn't live in a age where marriages are OBLIGATIONS. But anyway, this just makes me wonder how everything would unfold throughout the story.

How would she meet John? I mean, I only can imagine Blackthorne being pretty screwed up in modern world, maybe a bar owner, something lower, I don't think any profession too fancy, I even thought about oceanographer but... no, I don't think so! And also, how would she be close to Lord (Mr.) Toranaga, would he be someone who would help her after her parents' death? Or maybe he was close enough to her father to know her, who knows. Many questions, our world is full of possibilities for characters who followed such strict standards.

This is completely, completely random, but I think what drives me utterly insane with feels in Clear Card Arc is how in the end the love Kaito got for Akiho proved to be stronger than his own self-loathing, stronger than his depression and stronger than the complete disregard for his life.

I won't use the heavy word that starts with "s", but the depiction of Kaito's state of mind might remind of that, and I would've never imagined CLAMP would depict that in CCS.

Back at the Fake Moon, he was so lost and had hit rock bottom so hard that he was ready to let himself rot in that cage for eternity, without even the mercy of death but at the same time not being able to live either.

Forever condemned to be reminded every single waking moment of all his mistakes and what he lost in exchange for fixing them.

All of this, in a shape that deprived him completely of his human dignity.

They found him sleeping, because only sleep could alleviate some of that torment.

And even when Sakura with her immense empathy miraculously recognized Akiho's most important person in him, and freed him, he refused to come out of that frigging prison he imposed on himself.

Not even Sakura spelling out in front of him "Akiho had a special person and that was you" could convince him to move his ass out of there.

It's only when he saw her, heard her say those things with her very own voice, and then saw her putting herself in danger for his sake, that he finally moved.

His love for her, his will to protect her was stronger than his will to let himself rot away.

Stronger than the monster that was eating his sanity away from the inside.

I can't help but get moved to tears thinking about this depiction of how the love for your most important person can save you from depression.

It might not be for yourself at first, but you gotta start from somewhere. Something must give you the "fuel" to keep fighting those demons inside and overthrow them.

A love as strong as that one can do it, it can be that "fuel".

Then everything else can come afterwards. Like a newfound self-worth to learn to live again.

Kaito was so convinced he didn't deserve to live a life out there, he was so sure that it was over for him, forgotten by everything and everyone...but when he heard from Akiho how important he was to her, that changed everything, and he managed to find the strength in himself to go back to her.

It wasn't certainly easy for him, even as a dragon you can see how much he's suffering while he's literally dragging himself out of despair's chokehold, to go back to her. But he did it. For her.

Love defeating death, basically.

And all of this was possible thanks to Sakura's immense empathy and compassion. How she made possible for those two to reunite and let Akiho's love pull Kaito towards life.

Cause Sakura certainly made him go back to his original appearance, and then saved him in other ways, but without Kaito's consent and effort, that last, painful "okay" said with the eyes of the dragon, things would've been very different.

And Kaito came back only because he felt the pull of Akiho's love and the one of his love for her.

Sometimes I wonder if people really realize how huge that is, and what heavy, extremely heavy thematics were addressed in Clear Card, with the subtlety and sensitivity that the topic and target audience required. I wonder if there are people who related to Kaito's behavior in the story, and felt comforted by seeing what happened in the climax.

You know how cat whisters help with a cats balance right? Do you think your depiction of cosmics is the same? Ie, Since they're adaptation is different yet unique head shapes and patterns, do you think their whiskers helps with their balance along with other senses that or is it just for design. Ether way, your depiction of the queen, king, and prince is very interesting, lovely and makes me think a lot! Keep it up

Yes!! I feel like them having whiskers would make sense for the 'somethings coming' alert, because its usually something that they can't see coming from behind. Also prince can go on very narrow paths while rolling around a giant ball, so he'd sort of have to have good balance

Also if they had really good balance then they could do things like this

"Sweet Cosmo... Do you know what you're asking?" Vayn purred, comfortably perched in the other vampire's lap, hands busying themselves with playing at a button or two in his jacket. There was an earnest glint in the blue of his eyes, something hopeful and desperate for acceptance, reciprocal - mirrored in opposing pinkish red and a bittersweet smile. That Cosmo would not tell him no when he climbed into his lap, straddling him with breathless intent and adoring stares, and instead invite him in satisfied deepest yearning for the same. And he'd crossed a boundary, too much too fast, yet held firmly in place nonetheless.

Maybe...he'd made the right choice in making his desires known, plain and clear in tender subtleties and enthusiasm. Maybe something could come of this, an end to loneliness in perpetuity, wildly vain hopes blooming in his chest and spreading like a poison. What naivete, he surrendered so, bade farewell to caution and cardinal rule - and leaned ever closer, hands sliding underneath Cosmo's jacket to slowly skim fingertips over planes and dips. He peppered little kisses along his jaw in tandem, full lips brushing against smooth skin, nosing into midnight strands, breathing him in--

He smelled lovely... His heart was heavy.

"Are you...sure?" Vayn whispered, a heady note to the ache in his voice. He pulled back enough to settle for pressing his forehead against Cosmo's, hands sliding upward to rest on his chest or curl around his nape. Breaths coolly mingling, hips incidentally undulating the more he shifted. Flushed, eager, finding himself a little desperate to kiss him in full, map every corner of his mouth from fang to-- So easily caught in hopeful sways, zealous in the need to show instead of tell. Would it really be okay if he did...?

"You're mine to...do with what I please? Then would you mind, terribly, if I...wanted to love you? Would you mind if I wanted to do more than steal a few kisses, a few bites? If I wanted to--" He felt a bit silly now, putting it this way. "--make love to you? Touch you, taste you, feel you, discover every part and piece of you? W-would you accept me...?"

Looking for a book like Contact by Carl Sagan, realistic science fiction about alien contact that's subtle with no big wars or battles or alternate histories or dystopian futures or greys or such, more of a focus on the characters, on people and their reactions, and doesn't stray too far from actual science, set preferably mostly on Earth in an unchanged present day/or within the past 30-50 years/maybe next 10 years at most, more on the scale of wow, this could really actually happen like now or something like that.
