Cosplay planning break down: I'm planning on making this beautiful Pinky Pie design for a Wondercon and I just started the build so I thought this would be a great example to share insight on costume planning. This beautiful original design for Pinky Pie by: @_sunsetdragon_ 🌟🌟🌟 First off I had to decide how I want to make the outfit. And there are tons of ways different people would go about making the same design. I see this design as being flowy and translucent and glowy! The skirt I want to be super soft and sheer. I don't want tulle, or stiff organza. So I knew I wanted a shimmery chiffon. And I knew I wanted to gather it real tight to make all those lovely lines in the skrit so I estimated a lot of yardage for each color. For the glitter sprinkles on the bottom I wanted to use the same technique that I used for the stars on my stevonnie pants. It's an iron on glitter vinyl. Now the top is the big thing. I'd assume a lot of people would cut out different fabrics into balloon shapes and stitch them over each other to create that look. However, I image the balloons to be 3D. I want to sculpt and mold and cast them, then layer them on the bodice. And not only that, I want to cats them in silicone so they're squishy and translucent like balloons! And since they'll be translucent, I want to add little leds to some of them and have them twinkle! ....want to know more??? Well i can't fit the entire breakdown in the space that IG allows. Playing around with filters when trying to photograph my new 13th Doctor pieces really drives home how 70s inspired they made her debut look. I hope they continue to use that vintage resurgance vibe to drive her costumes. Click on the pieces for the brand tag. Top is screen accurate from @brandymelvilleusa (same as Bill's bodysuit), pants and socks are pretty much as close as you can get. Coat is next - complete with heavy alterations. Thought I’d share a look at how my Indra cosplay works. When I’m making a costume I always have to think about how the heck I’m going to get into it at the end - which pieces need to be attached to each other and how. For Indra, that means: -a base black outfit -long skirt hung around the waist, attached to itself with velcro -corset laced up with shoelaces -weapons belt: loose cloth, sheathed knives, sheathed sword -hockey shoulder padding -accessories: fingerless gloves, hand wrap, armband, ring, earrings

So yeah, no magical girl transformation, just a lot of layers! 😛

P.S. I’ve been meaning to share some posts about the construction of my Lucio cosplay but I’ve had to put that on hold for a bit (sorry) while I get ready to move downtown to Toronto!

Alright! Here is time lapse of cutting and painting the bikini part of the Vestments of the Shifting Sands. The support band under the breasts is being painted with Folk Art metallic gold over a base of white of the same brand. This paint works pretty decently on fabric, as I found out with Sango. It flexes nicely and so far in my experience isn’t prone to dramatic cracking on fabric. We will see though, this is the first time I’ve painted on fabric that isn’t sewn to foam first. The next time lapse will also feature some more painting, since coverage isn’t quite what I want after one coat. I’ll probably do two, perhaps three coats. Let's talk about wings! I often get lots of questions about the construction and details on my articulating wings. I believe it took me about a month to build them. long nights after work, and on weekends. And with over $300 just in supplies this was one of the most expensive cosplay accessories I've ever built. Cosplaying can be done cheaply, but it can also be expensive. I choose to spend my money on this hobby and I want the best looking cosplays I can produce. I don't cut corners and I try to stay on a decent budget per build. But every build can be different and require different amounts of work, money and time. The time estimate also doesn't include all the hours running back and forth to the store to pick up more supplies. Or the countless attempts and failures of making them work. The hours of drawing and diagramming the mechanics and electrical planning. Not only does the final piece itself take a lot of time and effort but a lot of times all the r&d goes unnoticed and unaccounted for. Something to keep in mind when you're planning a build of your own. So it irritated me a little, for no apparent reason, to have one half of a video hanging out on my iPad not being used yet. So, while I was on the phone with my husband I filmed a second part- marking out the pieces for the top half of the robes! Yay! Yay! Have some time-lapse video! This is the first part of a quick and dirty build of the Vestments of Shifting Sands from AQ20 in World of Warcraft. I had a moment of inspiration, and remembered I had a few yards of very loud pink fabric, so I figured I’d take a shot at it. Ok, here is part two of the time lapse series for the Vestments of the Shifting Sands! This video includes the bit where the twin needle busted, that definitely sucked, I was hoping to do a pretty double stitched hem on the bottom, but oh well! The inner panels where the skirt comes together was serged, so it’ll be nice and clean and strong, so I’m excited about that. So, onto the bikini top! It’ll be my first time sewing something that conforms like that, and I’m not using a stretch fabric soooooo.....we will see how it goes!
