There’s a lot to see on the spout path besides the geyser. It’s definitely something I recommend people get the chance to at least do once. The sea stacks, sea caves, bird nests, and the varied landscape it takes you through as you travel along the coastline is well worth it.
Spout Path.

I know like geographically it does not make any sense but I’m mashing up this costal village place I love with this highland town we used to visit in summers and getting a lando/Oscar summer au. I’m thinking about like bored, teenager Oscar who lives (?) in this tiny seaside town nd works in this old school slightly shitty arcade, fully planning on spending a sweltering summer in his glass box doling out change nd giving the machines the “turn it off nd back on” treatment before he meets city boy Lando who’s there for the summer and fucking bored out his tits with dodgy wifi & no signal. Lando latches onto him as one of the only people there over age 5 and under the age 40 nd spends ages chatting/flirting his way past Oscars deadpan, no interest but hiding a smile interactions until they get a conversation going.
Leads to Lando spending dayyss in the arcade, sometimes playing the penny drop machine but mostly leaning against the glass window chatting. (omg winning like a fucking friendship bracelet or necklace or really cliche koala key chain for Oscar who is like ?? Dude I stock the machines ((but at some point he wins/steals the matching one for Lando))
Ofc Lando has charmed every shopkeeper in the high-street (inc the dog in the sweetie shop) and they get so much freedom bc there is basically no way to get into trouble. I want a summer romance. Long days at the beach, seeing each other shirtless and doing the “boys will be boys” wresting in the (let’s still be realistic, freezing) sea, doing the “is he interested, is he gay???” internal panic. Walking the costal paths and wee lanes and forest paths, talking and laughing. Finally making out in the sand traps on the golf course (maybe they were cutting through and a greenkeeper saw them or they were sitting in the bunker drinking and got interrupted so had to dive on top of each other to hide and end up face to face, staring into each others eyes nd that’s when it happens) I want a love confession in a small, rusty kids play park at 10pm when they’re tipsy off cheap cider and it’s all summer hazy light. I actually want the whole thing in that summer evening light nd blurry sunny Polaroids. That’s the vibe (I’d say like a late 90s/early 00s setting but realistically most seaside towns still have that vibe anyway). ANYWAY that’s my Monday night thoughts ✨✨
OMG ANON 😍😍🥰🥰🧡🧡 I have to publish this because it's sooooo cute I am feeling the summer vibes so hard!
Oscar in his arcade glass box being slowly charmed by chatty/flirty Lando! The summer romance! The wrestling in the freezing cold sea! When I read out the part with the sand traps on the golf course @strawberry-daiquiris screamed! Tipsy off cheap cider 😭 I am going to think about this so long and hard thank you for blessing my inbox with this utter joy.

Taking The Plunge (Benedict Bridgerton x F!Reader)
A/N: Ironically, I was working on this Drabble some time ago, but seeing the news about Bridgerton season three only made me feel the need to finish this. Like, don't get me wrong, I'm still excited for Penelope and Colin, but I WAS READY for Benedict. My love... So, until then, we'll just have to tide ourselves over with dreaming of the iconic pond scene from his book 😤
(Also if you think you spot a reference to a certain scene from Sanditon... no. No you don't 🤫 hehe)

You hadn’t meant to wander so far down the costal path. After all, you were supposed to be having tea with your parents and their guests in an hour or so. Yet, that hadn’t stopped you from carrying on further than planned as you felt the sunshine hit your face and soft ocean breeze fluttering up the cliffside.
That was your favourite part about your family’s country home - the beach located nearby -it always had been. Even as a small girl you’d often fled your lessons or particularly odious duties, choosing instead to collect shells or paddle in the crystal blue waves down in the cove. It had driven your parents to the point of insanity.
Was it really so much of a surprise, then, that you should choose to do the same now?
You’d been so busy with everything since the end of the season, and with the announcement of your engagement to Benedict only a month or so ago, that you’d barely had time to breathe, let alone have a day off. There was just so much to do and so much to organise now that your family and the Bridgerton brood were to be united as one.
Being a future bride, and Bridgerton one at that, was a large duty, but one you relished considering you loved his family almost as much as you loved the man you were set to marry.
The fact Benedict was an impressive catch in the eyes of the Ton was almost irrelevant to you. It didn’t matter so much as the fact that you’d loved him since you the day you’d met - since you were mere children together.
You couldn’t have imagined a life without him. Duty or not… but that didn’t mean you didn’t need a break sometimes, from the pomp and ceremony that your lives now entailed. Hence, your escape today.
In your defence, however, you’d only planned on being gone long enough to dip your toes in the sea and to take a breath without somebody interrogating you about floral arrangements, dress fittings, or finalising guest lists. That, and the walk back up the cliff, would provide as much of a break as you could afford right now.
Perhaps you and Benedict could find a day to spend together, just the two of you, on the beach, once you were married. It didn’t seem entirely beyond the realms of possibility. Perhaps you’d even incorporate it into the final days of your honeymoon somehow? Or maybe you’d be too busy exploring other shores and art galleries across the world to care…
A soft smile tugged at the corner of your mouth at the thought.
Your honeymoon… it felt surreal to think you’d be husband and wife in a mere matter of days. Had you not had the ring on your hand to prove it, you’d have thought you were dreaming.
Speaking of dreaming, you rather thought you must have been as you finally reached the edge of the path, stepping down onto the soft cream coloured sand. Otherwise, there was no explanation for the sight in front of you, just beyond the rocks that formed the edge of the beach.
Why else would there be a man on the beach when barely a soul knew it existed?
Why else would the man also be swimming about in the middle of the day when most people were busy with their lives?
And why would the man be … naked?
Tumblr media
Your eyes widened as they noticed the discarded clothes littered on the shoreline next to you, the only evidence you were alas not dreaming. Each item was yet more proof this moment was horrifyingly real, torn off by their wearer and hurled aside with some haste.
Your eyes widened even more as you then tried to turn your head, as if to avoid once more catching a glimpse of the pale, toned, physique of the swimmer… especially once you’d realised who it belonged to.
Benedict?
Oh no.
What was he doing out here? Wasn’t he supposed to be up at the house with everyone else? You couldn’t even remember your mind was so scrambled as it tried not to focus on the very vivid image of him splashing about in the sea as bare as the day he was born.
The only mercy in this whole scenario was that he had been facing away from you - he hadn’t noticed you were there and you’d been saved the mortification of a more… thorough observation.
Your cheeks burned at the thought of it, both in shame and embarrassment. After all, you’d attended parties at Lord Granville’s home, and Benedict’s classes at the academy. Seeing a model posing, sans clothes, had never caused you to bat an eyelid before. Yet, this was your undoing? The terror of observing a naked man - your future husband at that - having shared nothing more than a passionate kiss between you?
No.
Nope.
That was it; you were running away and never mentioning this to anyone. Ever…
Or that had been the plan at least.
Of course, as you’d turned, that had to be the moment that fate decided to intervene and royally screw you over. Never before had you fallen or taken a mis-step down here, not even when you’d clambered across the slippery rock pools you’d loved to explore so much as a child.
But now? Now was the time you finally lost your footing? On a stupid rock of all things?
The cosmic irony made you want to laugh and cry all at once.
However, you were too busy plummeting face first into the sand, with an undignified yelp of surprise, to do either.
“Y/N?”
You froze.
Was it shock or stubbornness that kept you paralysed for that long minute. You couldn’t even bring yourself to look up at him, let alone answer. Perhaps part of you hoped that the waves would simply wash you away, out to sea, and swallow you whole.
“Y/N? Are you alright?”
“I… I’m fine,” you coughed, slowly sitting up and brushing the sand off of you as best you could. You could hear the water splashing as Benedict moved about behind you, most likely turning around to make his way back to shore. “Uh… I… I should go… I - I didn’t know you were here and I was simply on a walk but the cove is usually so peaceful this time of day that I couldn’t help it when I saw the path down here-”
Yep. You were rambling. Rambling, uncontrollably, with very little way to stop it.
You could hear Benedict laughing to himself, thoroughly enjoying your mortification. Knowing him as intimately as you did, you knew he’d more than likely let you carry on rambling until you finally ran out of things to say to mask your embarrassment at being caught in so compromising a moment. Perhaps that was why you were so startled when he finally decided to grant you mercy and cut you off.
“Your excuses are adorable, though weak, y/n. We both know you couldn’t help it that you were simply enraptured by the sight of me,” he chuckled. “Oh, yes. I must say it is rather unfair of you to ambush me like this.”
“What?”
You choked.
Was he being serious? Was he actually implying that you had orchestrated this on purpose?
You turned in a flurry of skirts, marching over whilst failing to comprehend his mocking tone. You didn’t even seem to notice that he was technically still in the water, lower half still submerged (thankfully). “I can assure you I did not ambush you, Lord Bridgerton. Rather, I am the wounded party here. Besides, this is my beach, so if anything you’re ambushing me.”
“You wound me.”
“I think, rather, I’m the wounded parted considering I just fell over.”
“Am I so hideous then? The sight of your fiancé wounds you so much you turn and ran?”
“No, I - I meant - you - “
“Here you are, the only one fully clothed, and yet you seem the most embarrassed of us both, darling.”
It was official.
You were going to drown Benedict in the ocean, just so you could wipe that smug little smirk off of his face. Fiancé or not, murder suddenly seemed rather appealing. You could march right in to the water and drown him, and given the remote nature of this location, you doubted anyone would ever be any the wiser.
“You can be a right prig, you know, Benedict. I’m not embarrassed.”
“Then why can’t you look at me for a more than minute without looking away?”
“I… I…”
He had you there, and what was worse, was that you both knew it. His
“If you’re done staring, I recommend you turn around,” he chuckled, motioning with his hand.
It was as if you were but a puppet on string as you obeyed without a word. You did as he suggested - for both your sakes. Else, you feared you would only embarrass yourself further, which given the last few minutes, would be quite the feat.
"You're doing this just to torture me," you grumbled.
"You may feel free to face me at any time," he said, his voice laced with quiet amusement. "I assure you that I asked you to turn your back for the sake of your sensibilities, not mine.”
Some not so lady like terms escaped your lips as you listened to him go about his business. It was impossible to prevent yourself from listening to and trying to identify every sound that rustled and splashed behind you.
Now he was emerging from the water, now he was reaching for his breeches, now he was...
It was no use. You had a dreadfully wicked imagination, and there was no getting around it. Every second he forced you to stand here only made the torture worse - and you knew that was by design.
“I’m decent.”
“That’s debatable,” you scoffed, relief evident as you finally turned around again.
Thankfully, he had his trousers back in place, even if the cuffs were rolled so as to allow him to remain standing in the water. He also had his shirt on, but that was it, meaning that the fabric was almost transparent as it clung to his damp body.
You felt your tongue turn to lead.
“Y/N?”
“Yes?”
“Did you hear what I said?”
You realised he’d been speaking as you’d turned back to face him, however, his apparel had somehow distracted your brain as well as paralysed your tongue - a fact he was clearly aware of, given the fact his smirk continued to grow.
“I uh… you… no.”
“Are you sure you’re feeling alright?” he teased, slowly stepping closer towards you. His gaze had all but pinned you in place as he approached, unable to do anything other than stare like some star struck maiden. “You do look rather flushed.”
“What?”
“And you feel feverish, too,” he continued, smirking as he placed his hands against your cheeks in some odd pantomime. “We can’t have that. You do know, I think the best cure for cooling you off is a little dip in the sea-”
“No, Ben-”
“Don’t you agree?”
Any protests were suddenly silenced as your world tipped upside down, Benedict hauling you over his shoulder like a sack of flour. You barely had time to register what had happened, let alone protest as he suddenly began to hurry back into the water with you in tow.
“Benedict! I swear! Put me down!”
Your laughter was contagious, especially as Benedict realised your error. You knew it too, the moment the words had left your lips.
“No. Wait-”
“Too late. Your wish is my command,” Benedict chuckled, suddenly releasing his hold on you.
With that, you dropped rather gracelessly into the warm blue waters below.
You barely yelped, too busy with trying not to swallow the sea water that suddenly consumed you, soaking you to the bone. Thankfully, you were a strong swimmer, having been raised at the beach most of your life, but that didn’t mean you weren’t a little stunned - mostly by your fiancé’s audacity.
He was still laughing as you broke through the surface, even if he did swim to your side, holding you so that you remained afloat. Well, that was what he claimed was his purpose, even if you knew better, given the flirtatious twinkle in his eye and the way that your bodies were pressed against one another so tightly.
Still, who were you to complain when you were in the arms of the man you loved?
At least married life was certainly never going to be dull with Benedict Bridgerton by your side.

Who is moviebob and why he so hated
MovieBob is a YouTuber that used to do video game reviews and now does film reviews. He fancies himself a costal elite and intellectual, though, and is constantly going off on unhinged political rants on the regular. He also once wrote an autobiography in which he described Mario as his own personal religion, described the 90’s console wars as “my own personal Vietnam”, and skipped his grandmother’s funeral to play Mario games.
As for why he’s hated? Things like this, essentially:
Tumblr media
Hint: 62,985, 828 are the number of people who voted for Trump in 2016. He’s also has flat out said he supports eugenics to get rid of the “garbage people” in the US to clear the path for the “superior future”.
Think Dobson if he actually managed to get some level of positive fame online and his ego got even bigger than it was.

💫KHOCWEEK 2023💫
Day 1 - Instructions (1/2)
Hiii I'm back this year again with my OCS for the @khoc-week ! I have to say, it's my yearly tradition now ahah it's always so fun to do. Hold and behold my beautiful OCS for this year :
Anis
(He/Him)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Surprise ! Anis is back this year ✨ I'll mostly draw him along side his twin, Bunny, but he deserve a brand new character sheet !
To extend a bit the sheet : post khux, Anis ended up in Scala and Caelum. He started a family all the while continuing his path as a wielder and ultimately a wise master. However, fate wasn't so kin and he was given a task in his older years : taking care of a child said to be the bringer of light. We love some mysterious shenanigans here. The kid is Xehanort imo ahah
Anis is mostly a khux oc but I explored his future a bit more since last time ! It's mostly time travelling shenanigans its mostly silly and fun ngl but I love it
Bunny
(She/her)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Talking about this lady ! Here's Bunny !
Bunny mainly follows the player's story throughout khux. The small BIG difference is that she enters a pod alongside Ephemer and doesn't sacrifice herself. She ends up stranded along side the teenager in the ruin of the once beloved Daybreak town.
As the years tick by, one thing is for sure for the couple : Rebuilding a city is easy but letting go of the past isn't so. Tin tin tiinnnn. We love time travelling silliness in this house so yeah, they are going to time travel for sure. I'm spoiling it lmao but I had to do so much mental gymnastic to make it work
Bunny's was my character in Khux when it was still running. She would have stayed this way if not for the KHOCWEEK !
Mikana
(She/her)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Without any surprise there, Mikana will also be present again this year ! I just can't leave my first keykid behind.
I won't lie, Mikana's canon story as always been VERY murky in my head. I'm not quite sure of a lot of the element ngl. Soooo, she is a child who grew up in a costal town along side her parents, Bunny and Ephemer, and her older Sister Sakore told you there was tile travel shenanigans. The rest is a work in progress ahah I have ideas but for now it's a melting pot of uncertainty.
Peche
(They/them)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pêche's also back ! So happy to draw them again this year !
My dear Peche ! Ah, their story is a hell of ride the ones who read it last year know it well. To put it simply, Pêche was named Piry before. She was the adopted daughter of Eraqus and Xehanort before Aqua and Terra were born.
As years went by, Xehanort became more and more overtaken by darkness and she was given the Ventus/Vanitas treatment by Xehanort before the boys. Except... it wasn't a great success. The part weren't really as clearly Light/Darkness and we're ultimately a failure. So to try to make it better and on the off chance they could still summon the Xblade. Again, it somehow worked but was on all other aspects a complete failure.
From all those heart experiment, all that was left was a apathetic yet competent fighter who is known as Peche. A very cold and of little word person who seems to know more than they let on.
Unfortunately Tumblr doesn't let me show any more of my kids for this year in this post so I'll do a second part to show them off right away ! I hope the new more info driven sheets are readable ahah I'm a novice in design

30 Days of OTP - Day 13, Eating Ice Cream
Rating: K
Verse: Canon
AN: In which James and Kainga attempt to share an ice cream. It gets messy very fast.
"What do you mean you’ve never had ice-cream before?” James shrieked when Kainga told him the most blasphemous thing he’d ever heard. All Kainga did was look up at him from his picnic blanket in the sand that he was sat comfortably on. He soon had to look down however as the bare tanned and rather hairy chest of James was getting a little too much for him to handle after he stared for a little too long. The Kiwi was drenched with water, after all he'd been out here surfing the entire day and Kainga hid the fact he was rather impressed by it but the wipeouts he suffered gave him great fits of giggles when he watched James get thrown off his board.
"I have eaten it before, I just haven't had it in a while." Kainga said cautiously. "Ice cream is something for special occasions, at least back home. We make our own with the cattle's milk and freshly picked berries from the farm. So we don't supply it as much-" he stated with a huff, holding onto his sunhat before it blew away in the costal breeze. "Also you're blocking my sun, and making the blanket all wet."
The way James shuffled his feet with a nervous cough showed that he knew he was in trouble. His attitude soon switched up however as the Kiwi threw on a raggy grey singlet of his favorite band and scruffled his hair dry, shaking it off in the same fashion a wet dog would. Kainga seethed back when a few spatters of saltwater landed on his face. "JAMES!" he hissed and wafted him away with his hand. James laughed loudly.
"C'mon! We're going for Ice cream!" He helped the Tongan to his feet, hardly able to contain his excitement with the bright beam across his face. Kainga knew he couldn't argue when he was as happy as this, and ice cream did sound like a real good idea right now, something to help cool off under the New Zealand's summer scorch. Kainga laughed gently with his hand in James's and the other holding his sunhat on his head as he was pulled through the dunes where the sand got swallower. Surrounded by chartreuse yellow-green scrubs of bush that peeked out from windblown golden sand path that slowly faded into grass beneath his bare feet.
He reminded himself to never let James decide anything for himself, it always left them stood here for what felt like a millennia with James choosing what flavor he wanted. In the end, getting a double scoop of his infamous Hokey Pokey flavor for them to share. Consisting of plain vanilla ice cream with small, solid lumps of honeycomb toffee. Hokey pokey is the New Zealand term for honeycomb toffee, he knew that as James proceeded to not shut up about it. "Did you know there's also a dance called the Hokey Pokey?"
"Start dancing and I'll shove this into your face." Kainga eyed the obnoxiously large double scoop of ice cream he held in his hand with suspicion before tentatively taking a lick. James grinned victoriously as Kainga yelped with the sudden epiphany that ice cream was good.
"See? I told you it was good!" James sang happily as Kainga took another, more generous lick. "Careful though. If you go too fast you’ll get brain freeze."
As if summoned by James’s warning, Kainga felt the sharp stab of pain associated with a headache. His hand flew to his head and he groaned. James laughed in good humor before sympathetically licking the melted ice cream dripping onto his hand. Wrapping his fingers around Kainga's fingers and the cone itself as he leaned down to try some again. Kainga suddenly flushed rather deeply before a warm grin spread across his face. He laughed out "Careful it's melting!"
He knew all too well James was a messy eater, the way he sloppily licked at the side of the cone to try and stop the dripping at its source. Hunched over slightly so he could get a better stance and taste around it, it worked with Kainga's height who helped aid him by holding it out. Only succeeding in it dripping down his own fingers now, both of their hands covered in melted ice cream and James with it all over his face, sticking to the individual hairs that grew across his face. Finally, he'd managed to clean it all up again, pulling back before licking his fingers with a smirk. "Hmhm...delicious.~" he paused and cleaned his sticky hands on his singlet. "There, all clean! Oh! I missed a spot!"
James leaned down again to give the tip of Kainga's nose another sloppy kiss with a hint of his tongue there too, he really thought he could get away with that. Kainga blushed and bashfully thanked James before focusing back on his ice cream. James, apparently in a playful mood, helped him out by licking at the other side of the cone. Kainga had to blush every time James’s tongue brushed against his ‘accidentally’ but he made no move to pull away.
"James, you've got it all over your face." Kainga pointed out teasingly, crossing his arms with a halfhearted attempt at modesty. With James now holding the half eaten ice cream, Kainga could place his hands where ever he pleased. Right now, that was on James's chest, standing up on his tippy toes as he used the New Zealander for balance. Giving him a rather surprising glance as the Tongan proceeded to fully lick the ice cream off his face cheekily. His hands moving from his chest to the curve of his neck as he continued. He knew he'd cleaned him thoroughly when he could taste the leftover Marmite in his beginnings of a beard from this mornings breakfast.
James's surprised fluster soon turned steamy enough to melt the ice cream he was holding. When most of the ice cream was gone, they both abandoned the cone to have an impromptu make out session. "Yer seem to really like it all over me face love~"
"Maybe I like my ice cream with a hint of Kiwi on it~" Kainga murmured against his lips.

My ideal role as an environmental interpreter
Blog Post 2: Describe your ideal role of environmental interpreter. What might it entail? Where might it be? What skills might you need? (Keep these all-in mind as you begin to work on your assignments – tailor these to that ideal job!)
One topic I have always been passionate about is environmental conservation, specifically how anthropogenic activities are affecting marine life. I first encountered information on this topic when I was in elementary school. I remember seeing documentaries about environmental issues such as the great pacific garbage patch, microplastics in the oceans, melting sea ice, and marine oil spills. My ideal role as an environmental interpreter would be related to marine life conservation and research and would therefore be located in a costal town/city.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One species I am particularly interested in is sea turtles. I have always found their life cycle fascinating; how all the baby sea turtles emerge from the sand by the hundreds and make their journey to the sea. They later return to the same beach or one close by to where they were born to nest and lay their eggs multiple times per year. Part of the reason that most sea turtle species are so endangered is because of the distance and variety of habitats they require to successfully reproduce. This is also why there are many conservation and education programs that focus on preserving the nesting habitats of sea turtles. To protect and manage sea turtle nesting beaches, there are a variety of organizations that are working together such as governments implementing new regulations, community volunteer organizations, and larger conservation organizations. With all of these different organizations that are working on sea turtle conservation efforts comes many different job opportunities related to environmental interpretation.
Some skills I will need to land a job as an environmental interpreter in this field are environmental knowledge, communication skills, interpersonal skills, and public speaking skills. An ability to explain complex ecological concepts in simple, relatable terms will be important when presenting information to the public. I will need to be able to make complex information accessible and engaging to diverse audiences, including children, adults, and people with varying levels of background knowledge. It will also be important to be enthusiastic about marine biology to help inspire others to care for and protect our oceans. All of these skills, plus a solid background in marine conservation, will help me on my path to my ideal job as an environmental interpreter.

Another English Breakfast (which is not very different than English or Scottish breakfasts) and we were on our way for the quick walk to the train station.
The train station is small and it was easy to pick out the Backroads huddle of tourists, even though they didn’t pick us up in a Backroads van! We met Perry, one of our leaders and quick introductions to some of the tour participants. There are 15 of us - mostly couples, but three lady friends.
The driver loaded our luggage into the back of the coach, and we climbed aboard for the 90 minute drive to Boscastle.
Boscastle was known for export of shale. There is a tiny little slit of the harbor, and there was a whole industry for men who would guide the boats in using ropes from the shore. Tide was out, so the river and harbor just looked like a sleepy setting today. It was drizzling a bit, and windy - but it was warm!
In Boscastle, we met out other leader, Cale, and our support guy, Joel. Perry is Scottish with the cutest accent, so we had no idea what she meant when she originally said “Joel!” We stopped in a little cafe where they served us yummy sandwiches and quiches. We sat with Cathy and Henry from Brooklyn, and Barbara & Gates from Cincinnati.
After lunch, we had a talk about todays route and set off hiking. The mist had stopped and by the first incline people were peeling off layers. It was the first day I’d hiked in just a long sleeve T-shirt since we were in Ireland. The scenery was out of this world. The coast is just as spectacular as The Cliffs of Moher, maybe even more so, with 97% fewer people!
We hiked a pretty leisurely pace, but were in front of the pack most of the day. The trail had some mud, and some steep assents and descents, but not as challenging as the Highlands. We hiked the 5 miles in 2:45, with lots of stops for photos … about 1500 ft of climb.
The weather stayed mild, but it was very windy, and the wind started to wear us down. We followed along the costal path to the Tintagel Castle (ruins). There was a visitor center and care there, so we found a secluded spot to sit out of the wind while we waited for others to filter in. There were more tourists there, and some setting out on the coastal path without good foot ware. The castle was set on a spit of land that is almost an island, and there is an amazing bridge that spans the gap (built in 2019). Because of the gale force winds, the bridge and the castle ruins were closed today. Historian Mike Bunney was supposed to lead us on a walking tour of the ruins, and he came to talk with us, but we couldn’t go to the site. Nonetheless, his enthusiasm was inspiring! The ruins date back to the 3rd century, and during the Bronze Age it was a critical site for the export of tin, copper and slate. The area is linked to “King Arthur,” as is this whole region … but that’s another story that he’ll finish when we see him again later this week.
We had left over time, so we headed to a pub for a pint, and then climbed into the two Backroads vans for a 45 minute drive to our hotel. Jeff and I sat up front while Joel drive and we had a great chat about cycling adventures. We arrived at the Padstow Harbour Hotel, and quickly got into our routine of unpacking, some sink laundry, and showers. We had an opening reception with local wines, then a nice dinner served family style. Good food and conversation. Another great group! Whisky before bed of course.

Coastal walk experiments
From my tutorial we spoke about experimenting with different materials and mark making. So at the weekend I brought some inks and charcoal to experiment with. Which I feel I needed to do to step it up from just the marker pens I used in previous experiments. To widen my experimental techniques.
Tumblr media
Here I have taken aspects of the landscape whilst walking and focused on what has stood out the me and caught my eye. Which I have drawn out in charcoal. Which has created this mix match collage style with each part I’ve focussed on. I wanted to draw what stood out which I have done. Although they are parts of my journey which stood out to me it has created this collage effect.
Tumblr media
Then with this example I split some ink on my hand and drew out the rough shape of the sea. Which I then dipped some seaweed into the ink to draw which is the thin ink lines. It was cool to experiment with items I found on my journey and to see the mark making I created with found objects. The green coloured part is a mixture of yellow and black ink which represents the bushes on the land. Just above the beach. With this experiment it was a mixture of mark making to create it.

I then played around with some more ink in a more abstract way. Drawing out the rocks on the beach in pink. The black ink is from some stones I found on the beach which I rolled around in the ink on the page to create this effect. Did the same on the right example with the pink ink with a few stones and moved them around the page. The green tones is some leaves I pressed into the paper.

Here is a variety of photos I have taken over the last couple of weeks of my journey and walk. I thought about the idea of combining my experimental techniques with photography to create a collage effect. Although I spoke to Justin today and he thought it was better to stick with the illustration idea. But keeping it more simple rather than over complicating it. Maybe I could add some photos to my final outcome in a different sort of way. As the collage takes away the idea of the illustration focus. The drawing experiments where useful in seeing what method I liked and what I didn’t like in developing and choosing one of my styles. As speaking to Justin today about refining my idea into my final outcome.
FINAL OUTCOME IDEA
I am going to create a concertina book or some sort of folding book which will show the process of my journey clearly. I am going to pick one walk which sticks out to me. Which I enjoy walking on and has a good amount of things I notice. I am going to draw out parts of my journey which stand out to me for example a branch which crosses the costal path. I want to focus on things to include within my illustration book which are noticeable on my walk. So that when someone else looks through my book and also wants to walk on that particular path. They can also notice and recognise objects or parts of the journey clearly a bit like a guide. With some thoughts I have whilst walking on this walk. Which I will briefly jot down. So that viewers can experience my vision and walk through my illustration mark making and thoughts.
My next steps are to choose a specific style I am going to go down of illustration. I am also going to play around with a couple different book making experiments like concertina book or french fold book. Which I can trial to see if my idea works. So I can critique my own experiments so that I can start making the book and draw out my journey on my walk to show my navigation through mark making and illustration.
