When I was first learning about witchcraft, I wrote everything down and tripple checked everything before casting any spell. But time and practice has granted me confidence in my craft. I certainly don't know everything and occasionally have to check something but, for the most part, if I need to cast a spell, I know a number of different ways to do it.
I don't hesitate and dither anymore. I trust my intuition and go with what feels right in the moment. I now understand why my mother never bothers to write any if her recipies down - there's no point - it's a matter of using what's on hand at the time and making it suit your needs. If anyone asked me how I cast a certain spell, I could explain and walk them through the motions but the thought of writing them down feels like a weak, watered down version that doesn't truly capture the magic of the moment.
Witchcraft feels better as an oral tradition passed down from one generation to the next rather than a written tradition.
