Wade Hebert Headcanons-

(TW: drug abuse, physical abuse, ablism)

He’s really not as stupid as everyone treats him- but between the meth usage affecting his thoughts, and just being genuinely trusting and naive in general, everyone just assumes he’s dumb.

He’d experimented with drugs long before he ended up with Trevor- but never with things as hardcore as meth. He’d taken shrooms and acid, smoked weed, taken ecstasy, and even snorted coke a few times. But once Trevor killed his friends and sunk his claws into him, he started pushing for Wade to take their product with him; knowing full well he would get addicted, making it easier to control him and keep him around.

Wade is scared of Trevor lashing out with his mood swings, but he does genuinely really like and look up to him. He’s almost like a dog with an abusive owner- he doesn’t quite understand why Trevor hurts him but it always makes him feel bad and he keeps trailing behind him hoping to make it up to him and make him happy again.

Most of his piercings and a good portion of his tattoos are home done and have gotten infected at one point or another. A few of his facial piercings got infected at once one time, so Trevor held him down and poured some home brewed moonshine all over his face- practically waterboarding him, as he said the alcohol content would sterilize the infection.

He pierced his own tongue, with Chef’s help, in the bathroom at the lab in Liquor Ace.

He gets horribly embarrassed and sad when people make fun of his lisp. It doesn’t bother him in general, and he doesn’t normally even think about it. But occasionally, some asshole will mock him and it makes him feel absolutely terrible as he doesn’t understand why someone would be so awful about something he can’t fix. Trevor has, unbeknownst to him, killed a few people over it before.

Trevor got him on about government conspiracies, “lizard people”, and Illuminati plots to disconnect him more from mainstream civilization and to dissuade him from leaving the remote safety of Sandy Shores. With the help of the added paranoia the meth instills, Trevor’s conspiracies were easy to convince Wade of.

Genuinely still thinks Floyd and Debra are alive. He sees Trevor as a good boss and a good friend, and while they do kill people together and he’s aware of how vicious Trevor can be, he doesn’t think Trevor would have honestly hurt his cousin because that’s his family and “Trevor wouldn’t do something like that.” And Trevor being covered in blood isn’t an out of the ordinary occurrence in general so he simply didn’t connect the pieces.

He asks Trevor to go get ice cream with him frequently. He does really like ice cream, but there is an honest reason behind why he asks. When his friends first “abandoned” him in Sandy Shores, Trevor was extremely nice to him in order to convince him to stay- he talked to him, told him how awful it was to have his friends leave him like that, and then took him to get ice cream to “cheer him up”, before offering him to stay in town and work from him at TPI. It was the nicest Trevor has ever been to him and he still desperately seeks that sort of kindness from him.

He likes Chef better than Ron. Ron is ok, but he’s very high strung and, well, nervous. He gets riled up and antsy, he starts shouting when he gets really high, and yells at Wade when he doesn’t understand things the first time. Whereas, Chef is calmer, nicer, has a more friendly demeanor, and is just better company to keep as he’ll work in moderate silence in the lab and let Wade chatter on to him about music and little stories he has.

He absolutely hates flying. He’s had to go with Trevor several times; and while Trevor is an excellent pilot, he knows Wade doesn’t like to fly so he does erratic maneuvers and flies close to mountains and even buildings before pulling off near misses.

He likes going to the beach in Sandy Shores alone sometimes. He likes to sit on the rocks (the sand gets broken glass and dirty needles in it) and just watch the waves. It’s calm and quiet, he can put on some music and enjoy some time alone without Ron’s ramblings and Trevor shouting at him. It feels safe alone on the beach.

Closer Than You Think Prologue/Chapter 1 (Dean Ambrose X OC)

Keep in mind with this story that it's a bit of a reimagining, sort of a "what if" scenario if you will. What I mean is... the Shield never broke up nor did Dean evolve into Moxley and join AEW. In my perfect world he stayed with Seth and Roman.

With that being said, I give you Closer Than You Think!

Title: Closer Than You Think Pairing: Dean Ambrose X OC: Shannon Brock Summary: When a serial killer claims a number of victims including NXT wrestler, Shannon Brock's cousin, she vows to find the killer after she is bumped to RAW from NXT. Her cousin's lover, AJ Styles, appoints himself and the Shield—Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns—as her bodyguards.

Dean takes the task very seriously and doesn't let Shannon out of his sight, despite the game of cat and mouse they play with the killer. Can he keep her safe, or will the killer claim his ultimate victim?

Prologue/Chapter 1

Evil Is Born…

Being born was the biggest mistake I ever made.

I learned very soon in life that my mother never really wanted me. She reminded me all the time how she wanted a little girl but was instead stuck with a boy.

Things got worse when she left my dad. He took everything out on me. He was drunk every day of his life. And I was beaten every day of mine.

By the time I hit my teen years, I was completely filled with rage. I didn't know how to deal with it, so I did what many people in my situation end up doing. I would pick fights at school and bullied younger, smaller kids. This would result in my getting sent to the principal's office many times over. This brought about more beatings, of course. And I would grow even angrier. But there wasn't much I could do about it, except to bully some more. It was a vicious circle.

My dad died in a drunken car accident soon after I turned eighteen. I was finally free.

But not for very long.

After my dad was killed, I was glad to live on my own. Omaha suddenly became more peaceful to me. Quiet. I could do as I pleased. However, I only had about two years of freedom before sheer hell came on me slow and easy.

I met the woman I would marry. Her name was Debra. I met her one evening at the bowling alley where I worked. I can't believe how quickly I fell for her. She was beautiful. She had long, dark hair. Her ivory complexion accentuated her big, pale blue eyes. She was slender, but had curves in all the right places. She was the most sweet, and loving girl I'd ever met.

Debra just seemed like a dream. I thought I'd found the one woman who would show me that not all females were like my mother; selfish and manipulative. Instead, I had married a girl who was as manipulative as they come.

Soon after our wedding, her true colors came through. She cheated on me, and wanted to control everything. The money, the house, what cars we bought...everything. She was verbally abusive for the first several years of our marriage. And when she saw she could get away with it, she became physically abusive as well. She started out just slapping me. But then she graduated to punches and throwing hard objects at me. I wanted to hit her. I really did. But I knew I'd end up in jail, because who would believe such a beautiful, angelic-looking woman was abusing me? I wasn't going to end up in prison because of her.

Looking back, I should have just left her. But I didn't. I put up with her for five years. Why? I honestly don't know. I wish I did.

All I do know is I had a new rage building up in me. And I couldn't bully kids to soothe it away anymore. So, I found another way of unleashing my rage. I began preying on stray animals, and lost pets. I would collect them, take them out to the woods behind my house and torture them. It felt good to make something feel the pain and anguish I felt nearly every day of my life. The little creatures had it easy though. Their torture and pain only lasted minutes. I was enduring a lifetime of it. Soon, I ran out of victims. It seemed as though I had cleaned the neighborhood of strays, and caused the owners of their lost, beloved pets to lose hope. I even put the animal patrol officer out of business for the summer.

One night, I'd finally had enough. We were arguing about money, as usual, when she let loose and kicked me in the balls. I fell to the floor gagging in misery. I took the abuse as I always did, but in my head I was already planning.

I was going to kill my wife.

Over the next month, I added enough cash to my secret savings to get fake IDs, a used car under my new name, hair dye, and anything else I needed to make a clean get-away. I just needed to figure out how I would kill her. It had to be flawless.

I went out to the garage to think up the rest of my plan. I knew the time of my retribution was very near, and it seemed to ignite my fury. I was so angry just thinking over my sham of a marriage. I knew I wanted to do the most painful thing I could to Debra.

My eyes fell on some rope and picked it up, planning to tie her up with it. As my hand latched onto it, however, a roll of barbed wire tumbled to the cement, and I froze.

Barbed wire—even better.

I picked the spool up instead and realized then that I would have to work fast in order to tie Debra up. I figured, what with being bigger and stronger than she was, it shouldn't be difficult to accomplish. I smiled when I imagined the look on her face when she saw what I had in store for her. I had just finished polishing up the plans in my mind when I heard Debra's voice behind me.

"Dinner is read—Hey, what are you doing with that barbed—"

SMACK.

I spun around, slapping her right across the mouth. She fell to the concrete almost silently, too stunned to react. She just lay there sobbing quietly and holding her mouth. Then she seemed to get control of her pain and fear, and glared up at me.

"Never thought I'd hit you, huh," I taunted her. I moved fast and had the razor-sharp wire around her wrists in mere seconds. Reaching upward, I grabbed some wire cutters from a worktable, and trimmed it. She whimpered then as I pulled her to her feet, dragging her into the house through the kitchen.

I grabbed a knife off of the tiled counter top. Then I pushed Debra down to the floor. I could see by the trembling of her body, she was too frightened to run.

"Don't speak," I whispered to her. "Or I'll kill you slowly. I never want to hear your obnoxious, evil voice again. Am I clear? Nod if you understand."

A mixture of fire and fury shown in her gray eyes and she glared disdainfully at me. "You're not man enough to kill me," she growled at me as a small stream of blood dribbled out the corner of her mouth. She tried to free herself from the barbed wire, but discovered it was far too painful to struggle with.

"Oh, I am," I smiled at her. "Trust me. And I told you not to speak."

Fear replaced her fury once more as realization crossed her pretty features.

She cowered in the corner, and was unable to force down the sob that erupted from her lips. I stepped over to her and didn't hesitate in slashing up her face. She cried out and put her hands up to protect herself, which didn't stop me. It just angered me even more. I drove the knife right through one of her hands and twisted it. The sound emitting from her was like nothing on this earth. Finally feeling a little bit of relief I grinned.

"That hurts, huh?"

I then slit her throat deliberately slowly with the knife. But before she was able to die, I then, inch by excruciating inch, pressed the knife into her stomach and ripped it upward, savoring the sound of her flesh tearing and her crimson blood splashing onto the floor.

Finally I was free. I could start over.

Quickly, I washed off the knife and took it upstairs with me where my bag had been packed and hidden in the back of the closet. I shoved the murder weapon into the bag to dispose of later. I wanted to get the thing as far from the crime scene as possible.

Changing into a clean pair of jeans and black polo shirt, I tossed my dirty clothes into the bag to discard at another time and place as well. Looking around one last time, I hurried out the back door and headed into the woods. I'd parked my secret car about a mile from the house.

In about twenty minutes I'd be out of here for good. I felt a huge smile spread across my face as I thought of how well my plan had worked so far. I hoped the cops would assume I'd been taken somewhere and killed. Turning into a cold case would be perfect.

When I reached the vehicle, I tossed my bag in the trunk and got in the car. I grabbed the map I'd stashed in the glove compartment and plotted out a route to Albany, New York.

Why Albany?

I'd never been to Albany before. Never mentioned the place in my life. And I needed to be random in choosing my destination just in case the authorities were on my tail. I also planned on being frugal with my funds for a while. If I was discovered, I needed to be prepared. I wanted to be able to get up and leave in a moment's notice if I needed to. But I wasn't complaining. I was finally free. I was going to live life to the fullest.

And I did for a while.

Until my pesky little need to inflict pain on the female population returned, that is.

About a year had passed since I killed my wife. I was beginning to feel angry again—irrationally angry. The wrath I thought I'd finally buried, still consumed me. It had always been there, just under the surface. I needed to find yet another way to deal with it. I wanted to punish my wife all over again. But, of course, I couldn't because she was dead—long dead.

Nonetheless, the idea of retribution soaked up my every thought, and I was desperate to do something about it. I had an epiphany then, it all become so clear in my mind.

What difference did it make if I took my revenge out on my wife, or just women in general? Women were all the same anyway! They all deserved the torture I so utterly wanted to bestow on them.

I came up with a plan one night when I was flipping channels on my television and came across a wrestling program. I watched as two scantily clad women scuffled and frolicked around in the ring, completely for the men's benefit. I was repulsed as their breasts all but fell out of their tops.

And then it hit me—this was it!

I wanted to hurt any promiscuous, strong-willed woman and make them pay, because that's what I hated in my wife. Women had to always rely on a man to take care of them but yet treated them like dirt. They were manipulative horrible creatures, and they had to pay for it.

As I watched the two female wrestlers, I realized they were truly no better than Debra. Or even my mother. Their beauty was only on the outside, and they used their looks ruthlessly. They were doing nothing for society, unlike what I planned to do for the world. I would dedicate my life to ridding the world of their filth.

One whore at a time.

And what better place to start than in the wrestling industry? There were plenty of trashy women to slaughter.

I just had to find my way in...

And I did. I learned everything I could about the wrestling business. Then I entered into a school and learned to wrestle and how to referee. I even covered all my bases and worked with ring crews to set up wrestling rings and stages in arenas.

Thanks to all my training and preparations, I soon met my next victim—a young blond student wrestler. She wanted to sleep with me one night, so I obliged her. Right before I slashed her throat. I discovered sex was another way to dominate women. They had NO control over what I did to them. But I discovered one little problem.

You see, part of me wanted to rid the world of filth—and I still do. But I have to take care of my own needs first.

I find the idea of reenacting the killing of my wife to be very therapeutic. But if I want to feel as though I am indeed killing her again—over and over— I need women who resembles her physically as well as in her actions.

I need dark-haired women.

Blondes and redheads are not going to work.

At least they won't for now. Their time will come though.

I have my eye on the perfect girl right now. She is the spitting image of my burden. But I need to experiment with my craft first.

This is my art.

Elizabeth, do you ship Debra Morgan and her adoptive brother Dexter Morgan on the incredible tv series Dexter? Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter even dated in real life but whiny Karens who don't even watch the show would have yelled incest (even through cousins & adoptive siblings are not incestuous) so the creators of the show decided to end the show the way they did. Dexter: New Blood the sequel to the original series sucks. Dexter: New Blood should have made it that Debra Morgan was some how still alive and have Debra finally convince her adoptive brother Dexter to date her. Elizabeth, if you have never watched Dexter than know that you would love it.

I once started to watch Dexter but then kinda abandoned it haha. But from what I've seen about Debra and Dexter, it is a good ship and I'm sad they didn't go through with it. Obviously, dating your adopted brother is still a taboo, but that is more understandable since they're not blood-related.

The Babysitter

The Babysitter remains one of R.L. Stine’s most notorious books outside of his Goosebumps and Fear Street titles, and rightly so. Jenny was a relatable and endearing protagonist. Stine did an excellent job with the pacing, slowly building the tension with some genuinely unnerving scenes. On the downside, I had some problems with the motives of the villain and there was some really shoddy police work that was presented as exceptional. I was also baffled by one particular action of Jenny’s mother, which I’ll save for the full review below because of spoilers. I’ll just say that sometimes it’s hard to distinguish between bad/oblivious parenting and things that were still considered OK in the late 1980s. Overall, I really enjoyed this one in spite of its flaws.

The Babysitter II

The Babysitter II was a very middle-of-the-road sequel. The characters were solid and by far the strongest part overall. But for every element I liked, there was something of equal measure that I didn’t. The book had some very dated depictions of mental health, which were hard to look past. I hated Jenny’s psychiatrist from the jump. It was immediately apparent he was a bad fit for a traumatized teenage girl. I suppose he sucked in a believable way, but I can’t help but cringe at unhelpful depictions of therapy. It’s OK to break up with your therapist, folks. Jenny certainly needed to. The dream sequences also got really tiring after the first one. Unless the book is about dreams specifically, they just feel cheap. The kid that Jenny babysits for in this round was presented as a menace to society. Eli Wexner is a child genius, he has mood swings, he likes tarantulas, and he can be straight-up weird. I think he read more as an autistic kid with inexperienced and overwhelmed parents than anything threatening. I don’t know if that’s what Stine was going for, but that’s definitely what I got as the story progressed. The other reason I’m being hard on this one is that I guessed the plot twist way earlier than I usually do. I suppose the book holds up as a competent mystery if you aren’t familiar with any other books R.L. Stine has written. For me, it felt like a partial rehashing of the first book and a mix of things I’ve seen repeatedly in the Fear Street books. The Babysitter II wasn’t the worst, and it wasn’t the best. It’s a mostly competent sequel that just didn’t bring anything particularly new to the table.

The Babysitter III

The Babysitter III felt like a sequel in search of a story. I’ll start with the good; at least Jenny wasn’t taking on yet another babysitting job after her experiences in the first two books. It changed the formula by introducing Jenny’s cousin Debra as this book’s titular babysitter. Unfortunately, I still saw the twist ending coming from a mile away. It had too many similarities to other Stine books. Everything he did here, he’s done it before and he’s done it better. There were a bunch of B-plot elements that ultimately served no purpose other than to throw the reader off the real trail. The B-plots are great for this function, but they work best when they also tie back into the main storyline. Almost none of them did. Jenny is also very clearly dealing with PTSD, but no longer appears to be in therapy or have any sort of support system in place. I’m used to dated and problematic depictions of mental health in these books, but this one just felt hard to watch. It was like one long, sad cringe. The book also relied on some characterization changes that I just couldn’t buy into. It made me wish the whole Babysitter series featured a different protagonist in each installment. Because the first Babysitter book was great; I consider it one of Stine’s best. The Babysitter II was less so but not bad. This one just felt phoned in. The ending of The Babysitter III does hold some promise for the fourth and final installment, but I can’t say I have a ton of confidence in that happening.

The Babysitter IV

I did not go into this book with high expectations, so I was very pleasantly surprised when this book took a fresh direction. The Babysitter III had squeezed every last bit out of using Mr. Hagan as a villain, so I was happy to see that he was barely mentioned all in The Babysitter IV. In a lot of ways, this book was about Jenny reclaiming the narrative for herself. The way that Jenny’s past experiences caused her to question her own sanity at every turn made for a unique perspective that a lot of sequels miss out on. I figured out some of the twist ending early on, but I wasn’t bothered by it. What did bother me was how rushed the ending was. There was a whole other story received in the last few pages that deserved its own spotlight. It was a shame because I really liked the story it was telling, I just wanted more than an eleventh-hour info dump. I can’t be more specific without dropping massive spoilers, but almost all of the issues I had with this book stem from how it ended. I still liked The Babysitter IV more than I didn’t, and I was happy to see the final installment in the series end on such a strong note.

For many actresses, the path of the ingénue can be treacherous. Celebrated for her beauty and youth, the ingénue is defined almost exclusively by her sexuality. An outsize amount of attention is paid to her looks and her body, little interest to her mind. As she grows older, opportunities diminish. Forced to act younger than her age and compete with newer faces, she eventually discovers that her career has hit a dead end. Among the long list of cautionary tales: Jean Seberg, the darling of French New Wave cinema, who died by suicide at the age of 40; Debra Winger, who shocked Hollywood by retiring at the height of her fame at 40; and, of course, the French actress Maria Schneider.

Schneider was only 20 years old when she catapulted to fame after starring opposite Marlon Brando in Bernardo Bertolucci’s 1972 film “Last Tango in Paris.” In its most notorious scene, Brando, who plays a grief-stricken man named Paul, rapes Schneider, who plays a young woman named Jeanne, improvising with butter as a lubricant. Bertolucci and Brando conspired to film the scene, which Schneider claimed wasn’t in the original script, without her consent. Bertolucci later explained his reason for that decision as wanting Schneider “to respond like a girl, not an actress.”

Because of its violence and frank treatment of sex, the film was a sensation, confirming Bertolucci’s status as a provocative filmmaker and cementing the comeback of Brando, who for some time had been seen as a Hollywood has-been.

For Schneider, it was her “cross to bear,” writes the French journalist and novelist Vanessa Schneider in “My Cousin Maria Schneider,” a slender memoir composed in second person, directly addressed to the actress and elegantly translated from the French by Molly Ringwald. The book, first published in 2018 in France, is both a beautiful eulogy (Schneider died of lung cancer in 2011) and a much-needed corrective — an opportunity to finally set the record straight for an actress long mischaracterized and unfairly judged.

The “Last Tango” scene would define Schneider for the rest of her life, explains Vanessa Schneider. Subjected to unrelenting negative publicity and attention surrounding it (a dairy manufacturer once used Schneider’s image on its packaging; a flight attendant served her a pat of butter without prompting), Schneider acted out. She spoke too candidly to the press about her personal life; she dismissed famous directors and actors; she walked off film sets.

That Schneider was also addicted to heroin didn’t help, and Vanessa Schneider wonders if the drugs and partying were ways to avoid the spotlight so instantly thrust on the young actress.

Growing up, Maria Schneider was unwanted. Her father, the French actor Daniel Gélin, was not involved in her childhood, and her mother, Marie-Christine Schneider, sent Schneider to live with a nursemaid when she was 8. Her mother’s “sex life was never a secret,” writes Vanessa Schneider. “A story often told … is of the time your mother was in bed with a man and called out for you to fetch her diaphragm.” She also reveals that Schneider’s mother “elected not to take the trip from Nice to Paris” for her daughter’s funeral, “saying she was too tired.”

Vanessa Schneider’s parents took in Maria as a teenager. From an early age, Vanessa worshiped her older cousin, saving every clipping of her from magazines and newspapers in a red plastic binder. As a result, this memoir is written with a rare sense of intimacy and devotion. It warmly captures the highlights of Maria Schneider’s life: her enduring friendships with Brigitte Bardot and Nan Goldin, her pride in starring in films such as Michelangelo Antonioni’s “The Passenger” and her later advocacy for women in film.

It is also, at moments, unsparing, describing Schneider’s struggles with addiction, financial woes and other embarrassing family drama. At one point Vanessa Schneider questions whether her cousin would like such an unvarnished portrayal of her life, and deletes what she’s written. “I often worry that you won’t approve of the story I’m telling, Maria,” she explains. “You won’t like that I’m speaking of the drugs, of your mother and father and brothers.”

Yet in this post-#MeToo era, Vanessa Schneider’s evenhanded portrayal of this daring actress of the 1970s is a refreshing one. For once, a young woman is not placed on an impossibly high pedestal, where she is unfairly worshiped for her beauty and then cruelly defiled for our entertainment. Instead, Maria Schneider is presented with both her faults and her charms. In that way, this is a generous account of a rare and complicated cinematic star.

Short Backstory

Lucas "Luke" Larson Tremaine-Westergaard was born to Drizella Tremaine and Prince Hans Westergaard on the isle of the lost the same year and day Hannah Hook was. He was the 3rd youngest of his siblings, only older than Dotty and Dizzy and grew up in Tremaine manner alongside his siblings and cousins.

When he was 3, his mother dropped him off at Zarina's Daycare class where he met one Hannah Artemis Villa Princeps-Gothel-Hook. The two quickly became inseparable and started to do everything together-- which also meant that the two of them also did every together with Skia, who was Hannah's surrogate sister and bestfriend since birth.

When he and Hannah were five, they and Skia began to get homeschooled together alongside their other friends. Which lead to them earning one of the best educations on the isle. He was there when Hannah won her ship in the famous poker game when they were 6.

He was there when he got her hearing aid and goggles. He was there when when her mother died. He's always been there for her. Through thick and thin. He and Hannah and Skia always caused mischief together and with their friends. He's had a crush on Darcy since they were 10 and has always wanted to be a famous cook, racer, and flim director when he grew up.

He hates his father's family as well as his mother and grandmother and cannot wait to escape from the isle so he can go explore the world with his bestfriends. People call him Hannah's twin/triplet and her shadow, and well... they aren't exactly wrong. Because he's always there for her. He's a horror fan and a bit narcissistic but he's nowhere near as bad as mother. He fears that he'll turn out like those who have come before him and desperately wants to be better. Luke's greatest wish is to escape the isle with his cat-- Lightning--, his family, and his crew alive. That's all he wants. And he's willing to do anything to get it.

Identified Doe: Orange Socks

May 05, 2022

On October 31, 1979, the nude body of a woman was found face down along I-35 in Georgetown, Texas. The woman had been sexually assaulted and strangled. She wore a pearl stone ring and became infamously known as “Orange Socks” due to the fact that she was found wearing orange socks.

The unidentified woman was estimated to be between the ages of 15-30, 5′8-5′10 and between 140-160 pounds. Her teeth were in good condition, despite two of them being missing and she did not have much dental work done or any cavities. She had long brown hair with a reddish tint, unshaven legs, painted fingernails and pierced ears.

It was estimated that she had only been dead for a few hours before she was discovered.

Serial killer Henry Lee Lucas confessed to the murder of Orange Socks in 1982 but there was no physical evidence linking him to the crime. Lucas claimed he picked the woman up in Oklahoma and they had sex. He asked her to have sex again while he was driving, to which she replied “not right now” and tried to leave his car. Lucas killed and raped the woman and then drove her body to Georgetown. He claimed that the woman said her name was either “Joanie” or “Judy.”

There have been reports that during the time of Orange Socks’ murder, Lucas was working in Florida, though the murder took place in Texas. It is also said that Lucas contradicted himself several times when confessing. Many find it hard to believe that Lucas would have traveled to Oklahoma from Florida, then to Texas and back to Florida to commit this crime.

After his conviction in 1984, Lucas recanted his statement and his death sentence was later reduced to life imprisonment in 1998. Many doubt Lucas’ confession, as he was known to confess to lots of murders, up to 3,000. Lucas died in 2001.

Also in 2001, there was a missing woman’s photograph that surfaced that resembled Orange Socks, but DNA testing proved that it was not a match. Media reports suggested that Orange Socks was a woman who had disappeared in the 1970′s with her abusive boyfriend.

Some believed Orange Socks was a woman named Martha Morrison, but that was ruled out. Morrison’s remains were identified in 2015 as a Jane Doe who was found in Washington the same year she vanished.

The case was featured two different times on America’s Most Wanted, with one of these times generating a woman who called to say she had seen Orange Socks hitchhiking on the day of her murder, but this did not lead to any new information on the case.

In January 2019, it was announced that DNA had been taken from the orange socks that contained two or more males.

On August 7, 2019, Orange Socks had finally been identified after almost 40 years as 23 year old Debra Louise Jackson who was born on September 23, 1956. The DNA Doe Project had identified a potential cousin of Orange Socks through research. A revised sketch of the woman had also caught the attention of Debra’s sister.

Debra’s sister submitted a saliva-based DNA kit and the results confirmed that she was related to Orange Socks, identifying her. Debra was last seen around 1977 and was never reported as missing. Her family said that they just assumed she was living on her own and fine. Debra had been working at the Ramada Inn in Amarillo, Texas and Bur-Mont in Azle, Texas in 1978.

Family seeks answers after Mississippi teen killed by police

The shooting of a Black teenager by police in Gulfport, Mississippi, has led to outcry from family members and activists who say the teen was unarmed with his hands up when he was confronted by police. The teen died days later after being taken off life support.

Police say 15-year-old Jaheim McMillan was armed and refused to drop his weapon when officers fired at him following a foot chase.

The hashtag #JusticeForJaheim has been trending on social media, with some posting photos of the teen bleeding out while handcuffed on the ground.

During the Oct. 6 incident, officers responded to a 911 call about five teens waving firearms at passing cars and began chasing one of them, according to Gulfport police chief Adam Cooper, who held a press conference on the officer-involved shooting Wednesday.

Cooper told reporters that one officer observed McMillan was armed and gave orders for him to stop and drop his weapon.

“McMillan did not comply,” Cooper said.

Cooper also claimed McMillan “turned his body and weapon towards the officer,” so the officer fired at him.

Debra Stout, a Long Beach, Mississippi, resident told ABC News she witnessed the encounter and said she saw McMillan with his hands up. She says she was waiting outside her home for a phone call when she heard the gunshots.

“I did hear gunshots, I ducked. I didn’t know where they were coming from,” Stout told ABC News in a zoom interview. “There were guys on the ground, then I noticed the boy who passed away at the front door, but before that I did see him with his hands up.”

Stout says she could not see if McMillan was armed. “I didn’t know if he was alive or dead,” she said.

She said she believes there was a lack of urgency in the medical response to McMillan, because the ambulance, she said, arrived on scene without a siren on.

“I feel terrible. I probably have to get counseling,” Stout told ABC News. “I dream about it every night.”

Family members disagree with Cooper’s claims that Jaheim was armed.

“If Gulfport Police Department had footage of my little cousin holding a gun, best believe it would already have been released,” one family member, Court Elle Bolton, said in a Facebook post.

A spokesperson for the Gulfport Police Department declined to comment. Family members of McMillan did not immediately respond to ABC News’ requests for comment.

The Mississippi Attorney General’s office has jurisdiction on cases where officers use deadly force, Cooper said during the press conference. He said the Gulfport Police Department is “cooperating fully” with the AG’s investigation and will conduct an internal investigation.

Family members of McMillan also claimed in a Facebook video they were initially barred from entering a hospital in Mobile, Alabama, where the teenager was airlifted to following the shooting. The hospital – USA Children & Women’s Hospital – did not immediately respond to a request for comment from ABC News.
