#covid help
I feel moved to do this so I’m gonna
I can only speak for the US, but if you think covid isn’t a big deal anymore you are being lied to. on multiple levels.
First and most important, covid is airborne. It was always airborne. This is a well-established fact in the medical community and has been for awhile. What this means is that, in indoor spaces and crowded outdoor spaces, it is chilling in the air and you are inhaling it with every breath you take. The more virus you inhale, the sicker you will be. The gov knows it, the cdc knows it, everyone knows it. Nobody wants to say this to avoid accountability that they fucked up the initial response with a focus on droplets, and they don’t want “panic”. Plus it will obviously cost them more.
herd immunity was never, and is not going to be, a thing with this virus
You can and will get reinfected. And with every infection, you’re at higher risk of severe disease and organ damage, including your brain.
Two very large studies on Long Covid have recently come out, and in summary, it is very real and you don’t want this shit. It’s estimated that 1 in 5 infected people will get it and there is no cure yet. Even if we find one, organ and brain damage is not reversible.
covid is causing an increase in brain disorders
this is an LA emergency room today as of August 27 2022 It’s like this all over as you can see in the comments.
children are at significantly higher risk for covid complications
masking doesn’t hurt kids’ speech development
earloop masks don’t do shit to protect you at this point and this is well established in the medical community. It’s N95 or higher or you have very little protection. Any mask is better than no mask. If you have absolutely no choice but to use ear looped masks, a mask brace helps significantly
you can get a p100, a mask with even higher filtration than n95, on amazon for $30. This is the one I bought. Here are more p100 and elastomeric masks you can buy safely
here is an indepth video on how to perform a DIY fit test at home using instructions from the US Army. You should be doing this with every mask you have (if you’re curious as to why federal mask mandates were never enforced or even discussed, it’s because federal law mandates that companies have to fit test every employee if masks are required for airborne protection and they can’t/don’t want to figure out how to work around this for the general public. You need to fit test for a mask to work accurately.)
one of the key components to actually returning life to normal for everyone, including the disabled, is air filtration. The Corsi-Rosenthal Box is a cheap, open source air filter that’s on par with more expensive filtration systems. At it’s best, it reduces 80% of the covid inhalation dose, which is the equivalent of a group of people all wearing decent quality, fitting masks. This not only helps against covid, but also reduces exposure to other respiratory illnesses and even allergies! People all over the country are making these and donating them to schools, businesses, people in need, etc. Here’s a video on how to make one yourself and I highly recommend you do if you can. If you don’t like masks for whatever reason, this is how we get rid of them
here is an awesome thread about traveling during covid
If you’d like reviews on various types of masks and if they pass fit tests, this is the guy you wanna follow
if you’re looking for graphs and charts and statistics, you wanna follow this account
if you wanna know more about air filtration, literally everyone in the medical community worth their salt is constantly screaming about it on twitter, but I recommend following this guy
and if you want accurate information about covid, then you should follow one of the first whistleblowers for the disease. He’s been right about everything so far, and he’s also posting accurately about monkeypox
NOW HOW ABOUT A FEW GOOD THINGS??????
a very promising prophylactic for covid, called Evusheld, exists and has been authorized for emergency use in the US. If you are immunocompromised, over the age of 12, and 88+ pounds, please harass your GPD and pharmacy to give it to you!!!! It is actively being suppressed and the us gov isn’t buying supply, so most medical professionals don’t know it exists and will fight you about it. Even if you aren’t in the US, it’s available in over 100 countries!!!!!
Novavax is a new and very promising vaccine that would be effective for emerging variants, and it’s working better than the current vaccines to prevent infection. But, again, the US is refusing to buy supply and the FDA is dragging their feet because the current administration is pfizer’s bitch :)
also, in general, I know it sounds scary that covid is airborne, but we have a lot of airborne diseases, and we know how to fight them. They aren’t magic. We can and do manage them all the time. It’s just that for some reason (capitalism), we’ve decided not to this time.
but the information is still available. We don’t have to lie down and let this thing destroy our communities and isolate our disabled and vulnerable neighbors. We have the ability, at any time, to end this shit for real and make our local communities safer, with or without the gov’s help.
we just have to do it.

How is it that my parents both just tested positive for covid but I'm still showing negative? I'm legit curious because technically I started feeling sick first waking up Tuesday morning with a horrendous sore throat and mum came home from work that evening feeling much the same. Then the day after on Wednesday my dad started feeling awful too. My sore throat lasted two days and now my sickness has shifted to sinus, snotty nose and chest cough. Dad has bad body aches too aswell as mum mum has same symptoms as me but with loss of smell and taste and gut problems. Not totally sure about dad but he's really feeling like shit and I imagine he's dealing with the same as mum. Any insights, help and advice would be much appreciated. Sorry for the ramble. (It's Friday afternoon now as I write this)

Hey guys, my mom tested positive for Covid
She was feeling really bad yesterday, she tested this morning and it was positive and I was sick last week with similar feelings so she's wondering if I had covid, I hadn't gone to school last week except for 1 day, but now I'm worried if I got my mom sick!
She's alrightishb she's aick and looks really sick and hurt and I feel sad seeing her like this.
And she's a teacher, the end of the year is this week on Thursday, so she's missing most of the last days of school, she'll be able to go back on Thursday though, I just hope she's feeling well when she and my dad sorta chaperone a highschool field trip to New York on Friday.
I'm not super worried cause she's fully vaccinated and boosted and she's healthy, but she's sick so I am still worried cause I don't like seeing people hurt.

I had some mint tea while I was down with COVID over the holiday season and that's probably one of the smarter things I did to cope. I found this article on twitter. Hopefully it helps others who haven't been feeling their best. Keep fighting the good fight.

alright I’m the dabi simp/covid info tumblr girl now so let’s briefly talk some more about Long Covid a.k.a the reason why you should STILL be keeping your ass inside and strictly masking with an n95 or higher when you cannot
Tumblr media
Here is video testimony from an athlete about her very frustrating experience with Long Covid. It’s a heavy watch, but I recommend to understand just exactly how serious this situation is. Her situation is word for word what I’ve read from all the other Long Covid testimonies I’ve seen.
Unfortunately, people worldwide, including the US, aren’t faring much better. It’s estimated that about 20 million people in the US are currently experiencing Long Covid symptoms (and this is from June 2022. It’s most likely more now)
People are getting so desperate for help that they are turning to risky alternative treatments
It’s estimated that 100 million Covid cases will happen this fall due to the lack of mitigations. With the statistics we have, at least half of these will result in Long Covid, and we can expect that a majority of those people will be permanently disabled like Grainne Kelly
US experts are already trying to sound the alarm that this is a mass disabling event
Long Covid is keeping about 4 million Americans out of work
Joe Biden was celebrating on Twitter today, August 31, 2022, that Covid “no longer controls our lives” much to the chagrin of the isolating disabled and ignored Long Covid sufferers
The one good thing that we’ve learned about Long Covid is from a large study by researchers from the Harvard Medical School and the Ragon Institute of MGH, MIT and Harvard . They found lingering traces of Covid--the spike protein specifically--in the blood of Long Covid patients compared to those with a typical infection. This means that, somewhere in the body, there’s a reservoir of virus hiding and continuing to replicate spike proteins, causing the prolonged symptoms. This is important information to figure out a targeted treatment. But for now, we still don’t where that secret virus hideout is, so there’s nothing we can do about it.
Another good thing: for those with Long Covid suffering from air hunger, like you just can’t get enough air in your lungs no matter how deep you breathe, but the docs can’t find anything going on, it’s not in your head. Canadian researchers recently discovered microscopic blood clots obstructing oxygen exchange in the lungs of Long Covid patients. But again, we don’t have a way to treat it yet.
If you are unfortunate enough to catch covid, the only tool we have to combat Long Covid is REST. If you have the means to do so after infection, do absolutely nothing. Literally. Lay in bed and sleep. Eat in bed if you can have someone bring you food. Do bed baths, preferably with someone’s help if you have it. No working or anything that requires exertion, even if it’s creative work. Literally do. not. move. And do very little for as long as possible after you recover.
But that’s it. There is no cure for Long Covid and there’s not even a treatment. The ONLY way to treat Long Covid right now is to prevent yourself from catching Covid in the first place by keeping your viral load as low as possible. Avoid poorly ventilated crowded places, including crowded outdoor ones. Stay inside. Get vaccinated and boosted. Wear a fit tested, high quality mask, n95 or higher.
As far as I know, there aren’t any n95 shortages right now like there was in the beginning. In the US, you can get an n95 mask on Home Depot’s online store. Mask experts recommend the 3m Aura, as it has a 90% passing fit test rate and it’s reported to be much easier to breathe in. If you’re short on cash, the CDC has an online tool where you can search for pharmacies that will give you n95s for free.
If you absolutely refuse standard n95s, consider trying an elastomeric. They’re ✨fancy✨ n95s, and imo--this is what I use--they are VERY comfy and easy to breathe in. Experts recommend the Flomask for most Americans, but any will do. Elastomerics are reusable too!
Earloop masks are obsolete now. Kn95/Kf94s are earloop masks, they do not create a tight enough seal to offer much protection in this stage of the pandemic. If you must use one, consider using a mask brace. They improve fit significantly, and there’s a FREE template download on their site.
If you have the means and ability, make a Corsi-Rosenthal box for air filtration, both for yourself and your community. Advocate for air filtration in public spaces in general to keep virus levels low!!!
As soon as you know you’re infected, start Paxlovid if it’s available to you. Like all antivirals, it needs to be started IMMEDIATELY for best results. The less virus in your body, the less opportunity it has to latch on to that secret virus spot before your immune system kills it. BUT BE AWARE!!! Paxlovid rebound is real. It’s not fucking rare. I don’t know anyone who’s taken it and didn’t get rebound, and both Biden and his wife got it. I’m not even sure if this shit actually works tbh but it’s what we got so. Most people experience a rebound of symptoms once they stop taking it, which brings me to my next point.
STAY HOME. OMG. The 5 Day thing was literally just put in place to get people back to work faster cause the rich missed their mules!!! It’s not based on science at all!! LITERALLY NO WHERE ELSE IS DOING THIS. The WHO still recommends to isolate for 10 days PLUS 3 more days after recovery! I’m sorry I’m yelling but this is the one that pisses me off the most!!!!!!!!!!! YOU ARE STILL CONTAGIOUS AND YOU NEED TO REST!!!!!!!! Forcing people to work and not only increase their risk of severe disability but ALSO endanger other people with infection is BULLSHIT. Resist this shit as much as possible!!!!! We do not and should not consent to being infected and constantly reinfected with a brain melting bat virus!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sigh.
For those reading this who are already struggling with Long Covid, I wish I had something more positive for you. I’m really sorry. I know of a Reddit support group for Long Covid if you’re looking for some community, and the #LONGCOVID topic is almost always buzzing on Twitter. All I can offer myself is that I see you. You don’t deserve this shit, and you especially don’t deserve to be ignored. I hope from the bottom of my heart that things get better for you soon, and if they don’t I at least hope you get to grieve in peace. If I find any good news out there, I’ll be sure to post about it.
For the rest of us, the theory is simple. The less virus we absorb, the safer we’ll be. High quality masks lower your viral load. Air filtration lowers your viral load. Antivirals lower your viral load. Let’s use the tools we have to protect ourselves and community.
It’s all we can do for now.
(if you missed the first covid info-drop, here you go!)

you're in my blood, like holy wine (chapter 3)
I am very sick and I needed to smash these two together to make myself feel better, so please enjoy Lena finally losing the fight against falling in luuuuuurve
Tumblr media
"I wasn't expecting anyone to see me," Kara says quietly. She's fidgeting with her hands, but she stops and puts them in her pockets when she sees Lena looking at the movement.
"Do you often fly around my house at midnight?"
"Yes," Kara says without an ounce of shame. "I like to make sure you're safe."
Lena hadn't been expecting an answer so honest, and it kicks off a storm of confusing, chaotic emotion. What remained of her resolve to push Kara away starts to crumble. Kara is so concerned with Lena's welfare that she checks in on her regularly, when Kara is the one in danger simply by proximity.
Simply because Lena loves her.
"What you said. About…a connection between us," Lena says, standing up from her chair. Her legs feel unsteady. She grasps the balcony railing for balance. "You're not wrong. I do feel it."
Kara's breath catches. "You do?"
Lena nods. "But it's not…it's complicated. There's so much we don't know about each other. So much that –"
"I'm Supergirl."

It’s genuinely so frustrating seeing leftists trying to make other people aware of the multiple genocides taking place right now, and totally excluding/ignoring the fact that disabled people are also being left to die because of COVID/systemic health care issues.

tl;dr: covid is a vascular disease, not a respiratory illness. it can affect your blood and every organ in your body. every time you're reinfected, your chances of getting long covid increase.
avoid being infected. reduce the amount of viral load you're exposed to.
the gap between what the scientific community knows and ordinary people know is massive. collective action is needed.
