Post pandemic, internet connected, alone and depressed....?
So, the long term wash up of some dimensions of covid are a bit contradictory.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you're on the internet with a hobby interest group. And on a recent podcast (Plastic Posse Podcast - episode 72, canon incidents) the hosts talked about how covid and lock downs made people reach out to over people in the hobby. It really expanded a lot of (digital) social connection.
But a lot of people have increased signs of depression and similar symptoms.
I feel some signs of depression myself, a general weariness and low motivation. Not enough to go for a full course of meds, but I'm conflicted that that may be the best time to interact...
Another factor is my family being very selfish and demanding. Which is tiring and draining even with limited exposure time...
On a good note, I've finally completed an assignment that I've been grinding away at for too long...
So that feels a happy uptick in my head space.
And if an image helps illustrates society towards covid, here is one...

Like a relic of a bygone era.
An era that's still here, with us.

In less than four months we will be in 2024, I will be 23 years old but I still feel mentally like a teenager. I think we don't talk enough about the effect that 2020 and the pandemic had on some people; it changed my perception of myself and reality forever, how can I continue to live and become a socially active adult when my mind is stuck in 2020? It's frustrating to see all my peers who have worked it all out, living and moving on, and I'm still here, stuck, at the mercy of the waves that corrode me until I disappear. When I think about the last four years, it feels like it was another person who lived them, like a fever dream.the derealization that quarantine has caused in me I think will never heal.
PS. Sorry for the rant, I will probably delete later

Don't feel bad if you haven't recovered from a condition your doctor says is "very treatable." Doctors and society in general often underestimate how debilitating pain, physical illnesses, and mental health problems can be. Don't listen to anyone who insinuates that you don't want to get better or aren't committed to your treatment because your symptoms haven't improved much. Take as long as you need to heal.

It's all "Kids Need To Be Back In School!!" until city schools are so underfunded that multiple schools have to close for multiple days because there's no air condition and it's still hot out, or in winter there's no heat (while the former governor and centrist darling uses state funds to install a heated driveway at the governor's mansion)

i know this is very specific to me being a therapist but god I wish the stages of grief weren’t written into the album storyline this way 😭😭 it’s not her fault people think they’re sequential of course but just thinking about how things get perpetuated in media and the massive influence she has (“in my ___ era” is just… so normal now?) and I can already see the five stages becoming some sort of meme… miss swift I don’t need my job to be any harder

My anticipatory dread of good events has increased with the general lack of care and masking: an anxiety and certainty that someone will give me or my partner Covid and we won’t be able to go to Australia, or that something else will sweep this trip out from under us. We’re generally safe but there’s a limit to how much our masks protect us if others aren’t wearing them. Part of me won’t be excited for the trip until we’re on the plane.
