I know this canonically happens in the book but I just can't see cql wx having sex and then spiraling about what it means. I just think they're both so careful with physical touch and it's so meaningful to both of them that they'd really need to come to a mutual understanding before taking that step and neither of them are the type of have casual sex anyway...and also in cql they just don't have the same issues wrt misunderstandings as they do in the book. they're essentially on the same page from the moment lwj finds him and their issues postres center a lot more on wwx focusing on healing from his various tragedies, and their conflicting responsibilities post-temple showdown, than on legitimate miscommunication or hurt feelings between then
#I can also see them not talking about it at all and just getting together in mutual agreement#they already communicate so much nonverbally.#they SHOULD talk. but they're so close that after the admission of the name of the song they probably could get by without it#but anyway. there's no way they'd fuck and then freak out about it. at their age? after everything?#either they'd talk beforehand or they wouldn't need to at all#and even the miscommunication in the show wasn't really miscommunication. lwj may have thought wwx was being mean early on#but they become real friends and get legitimately close. wwx may not have trusted that lwj could save him but he knew he wanted to help#there's some lines postres where wwx is confused abt lwj helping him but their vibes are so 'on the same page'#that for the most part I think he knows why. its just self-doubt creeping up#remembering the hand wwx put on lwj's abdomen to hold him back in 46...oohh that was so intimate#anyway in the book wwx is VERY careless (to put it kindly) about sex and in cql he's just not#cql txp

Sent this ask a while ago but Tumblr most likely ate it so I'm gonna copy and paste it: Just read chapter 46 and as usual it was a rollercoaster of emotions, can't wait for the next one 💚 Glad to see our disaster trio have a new plan, but unfortunately I think they're gonna fail once again because if this story follows Cql canon, Lan Xichen is supposed to be in seclusion so the letter won't be able to reach him nor the Lan Jade is gonna be interested in becoming Chief Cultivator. Wangxian are traveling the world right now, so the only authority figure they're gonna find in Cloud Recesses is... Lan Qiren! Good luck with that 🤣 Unless you don't plan to change LxC's decision and have him out of seclusion for whatever reason. Honestly, I hoped our heroes would reach Guanyin Temple in time to change Jin Guangyao's fate but unfortunately that didn't happen. I'm a huge XueYao fan (as partners in crime, not lovers) so I wanted to see XY and JGY interact more 😔 Changing topic, I think SongXue's quarrels at this point are caused by misunderstandings and unspoken feelings rather than by grudges of the past. From his pov, XY after the sweet moments they spent last night where SL was gentle and seemed to care about him (he was almost convinced), was expecting to see at least some glimpses of that change of attitude the day after, but for his own disappointment SL went back to his stoic behavior as if last night never happened. XY at that point thought that the last night meant nothing to SL and was hurt, so he went back being hostile. He most likely thinks that SL is an hypocrite who in private acts sweet with him to get what he wants and later act as if nothing happened, a double faced asshole who dates two ppl at the same time where one is the official lover who proudly presents to the world, the other is the secret lover destined to stay in the shadows because is ashamed of him. And he's most likely still convinced that SL wants him gone so him and XXC could love each other without obstacles. That's why XY suggested that XXC doesn't know SL so well as he believes, he pretends to care when he really doesn't. XY is a pessimistic guy, so of course can't really see nothing but negative things.
When it comes to SL, at this point he's perfectly aware that pretending to not have feelings for XY is useless, but is not ready to use the "love" word to describe his emotions. He's living an inner turmoil, deep dows he knows to be in love with XY but still sometimes feels guilty for loving him because of the memory of Baixue ppl and because he's "cheating" on XXC. SL is a man who shows his emotions through actions rather than words so at this point he'd expect XY to get that, if not that he cares about him, at least that he doesn't want him gone. But when XY accuses him of being disappointed because with JGY dead, he'd lost his chance to get rid of him, he feels outraged and hurt so he just leaves. So yeah, both are expecting from the other a certain behavior/understanding and when they're disappointed in their expectations, misunderstandings happen. I think at some point said misunderstandings will cause a heated conversation between SongXue and in that occasion, XXC could overhear something about their secret affair. At this point XXC has two choices: one is to feel hurt and betrayed and to dump them both and the other is to feel relieved about SongXue loving each other so that he won't be forced to choose between them also because in this case, neither XY or SL would willingly play the 3rd wheel role, XY in particular. One of them would be forced to go away.

As for how the future plot (and the poor characters' struggle to make Xiao Xingchen's great dream come true) play out, that is of course something you'll have to read the rest of the story to find out! There's quite some way to go yet, and the trio have only just found out about some of the major changes happening in the cultivation world, making their plans best they can for now.
And Song Lan and Xue Yang... Yeah. They're very much talking past each other, but also themselves. Song Lan, at least, has enough self-insight to (very very grudgingly) admit to himself that he has grown fond of Xue Yang. maybe even more than that. He still doesn't like thinking that thought to the end.
Xue Yang, on the other hand, is notoriously bad at parsing emotions, his own and others', and so remains blissfully unaware not only of Song Lan's affection, but the fact that he himself has grown to love Song Lan, too. He's such a mess, I love him. ♥
So no, he's not even aware that Song Lan likes him, and so not hurt by the idea that he doesn't. If anything, he's a bit disappointed, because teasing Song Lan with sexual innuendos is fun, and the next morning Song Lan was completely unfazed, and thus boring. The way he brushed his hear real tenderly was nice though...
And yes, as you say, Song Lan is trying to convey his torn affections through gifts and gestures, and so far it's hit-or-miss whether Xue Yang even realizes, not to mention how he'll react. Poor Song Lan. He never asked for this chaos in his life. XD
Their relationship is incredibly complicated, and will keep being complicated as they go forward, though at least there is profound fondness there now. Whether the idiots in question want to admit it or not. 😁

re last reblog just bc i don’t wanna spam op’s post and also what is ohsweetflips.edu if not this but like. thinking rn solely in cql terms when u think the golden core reveal in episode 46 is The Reveal to make u rethink the entire story bc here is wwx who loves jiang cheng so much that he gives up his golden core for him thus kickstarting the rest of the story and then in the goddamn final episode we have The Reveal Part Two Electric Boogaloo that makes u see the other side of The Reveal 1.0 bc here is jiang cheng who loves wwx so much that he puts himself in between wwx and the wens so that wwx can live and jiang cheng loses his golden core and the love that wei wuxian and jiang cheng have for each other is there and it doesn’t fix anything and spirals out of control and just. i’m gonna quote my favorite twin prides post and say that i hate scorpios.

15. What’s your favorite AU that you’ve written?
Hmmm, I have so many that I love... I think it's a tie between the MDZS donghua/CQL crossover where Wen Ning, Jiang Cheng, and Wei Wuxian swear brotherhood during Sunshot (linked fic is currently the only one posted but I have more in this world that's still a WIP) and the Big Sibs OT4 Modern Kink AU (which I also have more WIPs in).
28. Does anyone read your fics before you post them? If so, who?
Not all of them, but I have a pretty common set of beta-readers for when I'm not 100% confident of a fic. Shout-outs to: @iamwestiec, @bladedweaponsandswishycoats, @rhysiana, @spacewitchbot, @shadaras, and @yourfavoriteweasel. There's others, but these are my most common beta-readers :)
46. Do you prefer writing on your phone or on a computer (or something else)? Do you think where you write affects the way you write?
Uhhhhh it varies? I switch around a bunch which is why I keep most of my fic on Gdocs so I can access it from both a phone and a computer. I like being able to write as soon as I think of something, so phone is good for that, but I think for more focused writing sessions, the computer works better.
Also I type WAY faster on a physical keyboard than on a mobile keyboard, so it's pretty much the only way that writing can keep up with the speed of my thoughts when I'm in the zone.
I also occasionally write longhand but much less frequently than other modes.

love telling my parents how upset I am that years of work by artists, storytellers, animators etc. got wiped overnight and them replying insistently that "that's just how it is. that's just how the economy is" well maybe the economy and system needs to be changed. maybe you shouldn't have to sign over the entirety of your completed project just so some rich fucking asshole can just flush it down the drain and completely eradicate it from the Internet.

i can't say i have a specific question i wish people would ask about that one. maybe "how many of zishu's disciples DID drag off their newest shixiong once he was released from the infirmary, and is that who i think it is??" to which i could say "yes😌 it's han ying, and he went off with no less than four of his shidis. he deserves all the love. gentle, worshipful love from his boyfriends who thought he wasn't going to make it. celebratory, joyous love from his boyfriends who are all finally living their dreams at siji shanzhuang with him. they're having a great time tbh."
14. Are there any tropes you would only read if written by a trusted friend or writer?
yes. perhaps obviously, squicks or potential triggers. but also there's a lot of typical tropes or set-ups or even ships that i've given up on finding my particular flavour in for new writers. one of the primary things that comes to mind is actually the whole category of 'getting together' tropes. there was only one bed, fake dating, they were roommates, etc. i'll really only read that kind of story if it's from a friend, trusted writer, or there's something else about the story premise that really hooks me in spite of the trope tag. or if it's a subverted trope in some way. i can like it but i'm ~picky~
17. What highly specific AU do you want to read or write even though you might be the only person to appreciate it?
i always have a number of extremely specific crossover au's that i'd like to see or write that i think might just be for me. but just like my obscure shl polyships zhou zishu/liu qianqiao/han ying and a-xiang/cao weining/xie'er, i may be surprised and find other people are actually super into it too. like, for current gaming-news-related reasons, my brain's been on a kick of "what if legend of zelda: breath of the wild, but link stumbles upon siji shanzhuang."
23. What’s a trope, AU, or concept you’ve never written, but would like to?
so many. uh. i would really like to write a coffee shop au someday just so i can say i have. i'd also really like to write a full longform "what if they swapped fates" au for either cql or shl. i.e. what if lan wangji lost his core and went to the burial mounds and then died for 16 years and wei ying did not do that. or what if wen kexing grew up in siji shanzhuang and headed tianchuang and zhou zishu became gui gu guzhu. that sort of thing.
26. Would you rather write a fic that had no dialogue or one that was only dialogue?
i'm a lot better at writing fics that have no dialogue; i have already written ficlets with no dialogue, mostly character study snippets. it might be a fun challenge to write an only-dialogue fic. i can't imagine i could make a very long one, though. if someone prompts me for one someday i'll definitely try it.
32. What’s your ideal fic length to read?
depends on my mood and the hook, but i usually like fics in the 1k-15k range best i think? i do like to popcorn-read small ficlets in collections or series or if someone's done a challenge, though. and i also like to find a really nice premise and settle down for a longhaul fic now and again.
43. If you take/write prompts: what’s your favorite prompt fic that you’ve written?
i do take prompts. i love prompts. (everyone please send me prompts). there's absolutely no way i could pick a favourite prompt i've gotten or fic i've written to a prompt. even if i eliminated things like prompt week challenges i've decided to participate in or sign-ups for events and i just limited it to, like, prompts sent via tumblr ask, i still couldn't pick a favourite. i've gotten too many good ones.
45. What’s something you’ve improved on since you started writing fic?
probably everything. i wrote my first fic when i was quite young lmfao. uh. in recent years specifically think my dialogue's gotten better. i think i've gotten better at incorporating sensory details and visual details among the internal thoughts.
46. Do you prefer writing on your phone or on a computer (or something else)? Do you think where you write affects the way you write?
i vastly prefer writing on the computer. i type pretty fast and i can get in a flow a lot better when i can actually get my brain to focus.
i also feel less claustrophobic about it, i think is the word i want--like the process of writing, to me, involves a lot of trying out strings of words and then backspacing them all and trying again, or switching a few words around in the middle, and then rereading and realising it all belongs two paragraphs earlier, and then reading back through those two paragraphs after the transplant for flow before i can get my brain to move onto the true next sentence and inevitably finding a word i want to change...etc.
and doing that on a phone is super difficult and the clicking on and off the touch keyboard and the screen bouncing around and losing track of things more than four lines back at a time and not being able to see the paragraph shapes at least half a page at a time just makes me feel absolutely feral. boxed in. i used to just try to power through it when i had a less functional computer setup but now i'll only write on my phone anymore in a pinch or if it's a really small blurb.
for similar reasons i really struggle to write anything by hand. the first time i want to move something around and can't? i can't even look at the page anymore unless i rewrite it all out perfectly on a new page each time and very quickly into the process i just want to burn the whole notebook and end up crying instead.
(i'm completely neurotypical idk what you're talking about)
