They're uncolored sketches, but I just remembered I have Caviar x Cream Uni fankids (Oops)!
Here, have Salted Caramel Cookie and Salted Honey Cookie - They're twins and are based on a Hippocampus and a Qirin respectively! You can also see which of the parents they resemble kinda clearly, lol.
Salted Caramel uses He/They pronouns, Salted Honey uses She/They pronouns.

There's like a pirate trend of sorts in the CR fandom rn and I'm taking to opportunity to rant abt some of my sea alliances :3 Only Abalone and Whale are of my design
Edit: Everyone's TH profiles are up to date now!
[The Salty Shark] Abalone Cookie (She/Her) - The Navy's lorekeeper, in charge of keeping its history and achievements preserved to prevent them from fading into rumours. Despite this, Abalone is far more well known as an author in the Creme Republic, writing fiction inspired by her husband and his crew's adventures and fiction of the ocean she loves so much. In her early career, she was in hot water for writing "The Conque Republic", a novel set in a world where the positions of the Salty and Sweet were switched. Otter Cookie (They/Them) - A young but hardworking soldier of the Salty Shark hailing with the Lower City slums. Despite their cheerful and friendly personality, Otter is one of the best on the ship, their speed and surprising stealth makes them very useful for infiltration and spying. Though it seems that they like to spend most of their time talking about rocks.
[Pirate] Quetzal-Croco Cookie (He/They) - A pirate who's in it for the thrill, the mere sport of being a criminal of the vast sea on the run. Life before was too boring for them, but now they feel free and alive on the dangerous seas, even with the dangers it brings and the challenges of being a pirate. Though sometimes it's hard to take them seriously.
[The Whale Fall] Captain Whale Cookie (He/Him) - A highly respected Navy captain of the Whale Fall, and feared by many on the run from the law. No one really knows what his story is, as far as anyone knows, he had washed up by a village of the sea as a young Cookie with no one else in sight. He had nothing but a necklace with him. It is rumoured that he was lost at sea for years, which might explain his nonchalance towards the ocean and her cruelty. Sea Salt Cookie (He/Him) - Captain Whale Cookie's trusty first mate, hailing from a long gone village destroyed and pillaged by pirates when he was younger. Since that day, Sea Salt had dedicated his life to bringing such criminals to justice, and joined the Navy later on to fulfill this promise.

I know you're more of an Ironwood fan, but I was thinking.
Does it feel like to you that Adam criticism has turned around in the last year or two? Feels like the big culture back in 2019/2020 that saw folks getting abused for criticising Adam's writing/his relationship with Blake has faded away and people are more comfortable saying he was mishandled by the writers.
And to bring it back around to James, should that turnabout for Adam be legit, do you think James will get a similar turn when even the fans will have to admit his downfall was a mess (I know the majority outside of the fandom feel that at least)?
Hey anon! Everyone's online experiences are different for sure. I say this because on my end I haven't really seen any significant shift in the fndm regarding Adam. Now take this with a grain of salt because I don't really seek out Adam content because I just don't particularly care for his character, I get why people like him. I get being angry about his ac and how his character was handled and feel angry when thinking about how badly CR/WBY butchered him but like I don't really have interest in his character outside of that. But overall for me at least it seems like he's continuing to get a lot of hate.
I see people get genuinely angry that people still talk about the issues with Adams arc in R/WBY. People demand to know why people want to talk about his character or maybe even feel bad for him. People sent hate and call people who like him abusers and claim only "Straight white men" like him.
So with that in mind, I just don't see a shift happening for James as sad as that makes me. I love James's pre volume 8 character and arc. I think he was well written and interesting. However fans are willing to lie and change James's former actions to try and pretend he was evil all along. Sending Yang a new arm free of charge? He was "clearly" trying to make her indebted to him despite not knowing she would ever even leave Patch. Standing up to Weiss? Also manipulating her. Standing up to Jacques? Proof he doesn't care about Mantel and that fucking Jacques of all people is the one who cares. Jacques the man who said he'd fire them if he didn't need their votes. Whom he sold out to Salem with no regard for their well-being.
Back to the point, Fans refuse to see any good James may have ever had or been in a desperate attempt to "prove" R/WBY is a well written show. They cannot fathom that maybe the writers screwed up and made a mistake. Given how the fans justified Volume 9 and the repeated tonal whiplash and horrifically handled arcs I just do not see them recognizing how poorly James and Adam where handled.

Erika you’re so brave for that salty ask game! Let’s hear 5, 6, 9 and 27 please?
Alright, time for me to give some salt back (in a loving manner of course)~!
5) Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you?
The MHA fandom largely ruined shipping in general for that series. Like, the one triangle I mentioned before is something I really don't get emotionally. But overall, I've become meh about shipping for that series. Fandoms are truly a force to be reckoned with (derogatory).
6) Has fandom ever made you enjoy a pairing you previously hated?
I've said it before and I'll say it again but I've never had the experience of a fandom getting me to enjoy a pairing I once hated.
However, so I don't bore you with the same answer twice, I'll share an example of how the source material of a series made me enjoy a ship. Impey x Cardia from Code Realize was pretty meh for me in the original game. It took me months to bring myself to finish Impey's route and I forgot how the romance developed there. But then in the fan discs! Ooooh! Cardia and Impey are just so cute together. Cardia supports Impey and he lovingly teases her and they work together. AND THEIR WEDDING! GAH! I'm gonna replay CR eventually and hopefully I'll better appreciate Impey's route and his romance with Cardia this time.
9) Most disliked character(s)? Why?
I already said the Zogratis family and Alecdora... Lemme pull from my other fandoms~!
Hero Aca: Tomura Shigaraki. His full time hater status has gotten on my last nerve. I've given up on MHA successfully redeeming him even though I'm pretty sure that's where it'll end up. I only really keep up with MHA to know how it ends.
Demon Slayer: Just imagine me stabbing a bag of milk, if you would. Also Muzan and his victim complex. Cringe, dude, so glad you're gone.
Fairy Tail: All the demons of the Tartaros Guild for being unsufferable, sadistic bastards. Now I know that's the point as demons with no humanity made for the purpose of killing Zeref (and they couldn't even manage that). Brain/Zero and the talking stick from the Oracion Seis also get my seal of disapproval for 1) preying on some traumatized children (that's Brain) and 2) being incredibly annoying (the stick).
Shadows House: Mia. That kid needs to stop being a menace for a freaking minute and give Sara some time to think some independent thoughts. And Edward, I'm not going to forgive him for the shit he pulled against Maryrose/Rosemary and Barbara.
Dishonorable mentions: Yuri Briar from SxF. Gretel from Taisho x Alice (I freaking wish he burned to death in that house). I also generally have a disdain for locked, "true route" dudes in dating sims (except Misyr, he's hot and funny and cool and a monster hubby after my own heart) but Adolphe from Virche Evermore has multiple other offenses against him so he is the worst of the annoyances.
27) Least shippable character?
I dunno what it is but Dorothy has a "single and thriving" vibe. So it's not out of dislike or disinterest that I don't ship Dorothy. It's just her energy is so independent and free that I have trouble picturing her with a romantic partner.

20 Questions for fic writers
Tagged by @mrsd-writes (so sorry for the delay, but better late than never I guess 🤣)
Tagging... hmm... @shadoedseptmbr @miniature-space-hamster @teamdilf @korblez and @cr-noble-writes (if you guys want to take part and/or haven't already been tagged lol
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
197, which is... uh... well that sure is a number. Heck.
2. What’s your total A03 word count?
221,553
3. What fandoms do you write for?
I'm not active in most of them lol. The first four are current fandoms, the rest I've dipped my toes into once upon a time lol
Batman | Baldur's Gate 3 | Mass Effect | FFVII | FFXV | Lucifer (TV) | The Witcher | Hades (video game 2018) | Detroit: Become Human (video game) | Dragon Age | Skyrim (I don't feel this counts since the only fic for it is a crossover but ANYWAY)
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
See, this isn't really... I think this should be taken with a pinch of salt, to be honest, because my top 5 were lucky hits - they were posted while the fandoms were still fresh and hot, y'know?
1st
"Did it hurt when you fell from heaven?" (6112 words) by Wrathofscribbles Chapters: 1/1 Fandom: Lucifer (TV) Rating: Mature Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: Chloe Decker/Lucifer Morningstar Characters: Chloe Decker, Lucifer Morningstar (Lucifer TV) Additional Tags: Self-Harm, Angst, Hurt/Comfort Summary: It's a simple question, really, it is. And the answer should be simple, a bark of laughter and an easy "no". But when the devil never lies, how is he supposed to answer?
2nd
Here there be wings (2884 words) by Wrathofscribbles Chapters: 1/1 Fandom: Lucifer (TV) Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings Relationships: Chloe Decker/Lucifer Morningstar Characters: Chloe Decker, Lucifer Morningstar (Lucifer TV) Additional Tags: Lucifer Morningstar (Lucifer TV) Wing Reveal, Crack, with a dash of fluff Summary: He did have a plan. That plan did not involve wings. And yet here they are. And there Chloe is. "Cat" out of the bag, indeed.
3rd
Hold (642 words) by Wrathofscribbles Chapters: 1/1 Fandom: Detroit: Become Human (Video Game) Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings Relationships: Connor/Markus (Detroit: Become Human) Characters: Connor (Detroit: Become Human), Markus (Detroit: Become Human) Series: Part 1 of Minor details Summary: They belong to a killer, they belong to a saviour.
4th
Courtship (421 words) by Wrathofscribbles Chapters: 1/1 Fandom: Lucifer (TV) Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: Chloe Decker/Lucifer Morningstar Characters: Chloe Decker, Lucifer Morningstar (Lucifer TV) Summary: "A courtship display is a set of display behaviours in which an animal attempts to attract a mate and exhibit their desire to copulate. These behaviours often include ritualised movement ("dances"), vocalisations, mechanical sound production, or displays of beauty, strength, or agonistic ability."
5th
The nose knows (701 words) by Wrathofscribbles Chapters: 1/1 Fandom: Wiedźmin | The Witcher - All Media Types Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: Geralt z Rivii | Geralt of Rivia/Jaskier | Dandelion Characters: Geralt z Rivii | Geralt of Rivia, Jaskier | Dandelion Additional Tags: Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence Series: Part 1 of Witcher, my only treasure Summary: Jaskier's a bit of an odd duck. If only Geralt knew the half of it.
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I do! I've been making a conscious effort of late to respond to comments, even if it's a simple heart or thank you. I still feel silly keeping it short and simple like that, but I've turned a corner with how I regard my writing and sharing it over the past year, so. I figure it doesn't hurt to ping out a wee acknowledgement of the comments, y'know? Granted, if it means someone's gonna get x5 thank yous from me then I might just stick to the one response lol.
6. What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Oh god I don't know. It's been so long since I've looked at some of my stuff and I'm not gonna go through all 197 fics rip. The most recent angsty ending is this one, since, y'know, major character death whacks you over the head from the very start of the game rip (I'm still wounded over that btw. I don't think I'll ever recover)
No rest… (321 words) by Wrathofscribbles Chapters: 1/1 Fandom: Batman - All Media Types, Gotham Knights (Video Game 2022) Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Warnings: Major Character Death Characters: Dick Grayson Additional Tags: Hurt No Comfort, Grief/Mourning Summary: … for the wicked, nor for those fighting them.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Off the top of my head, this one from back in my FFXV days.
Leave a message after the tone (860 words) by Wrathofscribbles Chapters: 1/1 Fandom: Final Fantasy XV Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: Prompto Argentum/Noctis Lucis Caelum Characters: Prompto Argentum, Noctis Lucis Caelum Summary: He never deleted the voicemails when he received them. Maybe he knew not to, even back then.
8. Do you get hate on your fic?
Surpisingly enough, no. I don't know whether that's luck, or that I've somehow managed to stick within safe writing territories, or I'm not a big enough name (thank god) to catch much attention. Regardless, if there's to be any hate life is too goddamn short and that shit's gonna get deleted.
9. Do you write smut?
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeees. I just never post it 😅
10. Do you write crossovers?
Very rarely. I tend to lose steam with 'em fairly quickly, though, so. Unless it's an idea that takes over my entire soul, it probably ain't gonna happen these days.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not to my knowledge, no.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Not that I'm aware of, nope.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic?
Nope. I've worked alongside an artist during a fandom exchange, and during my FFXV days I wound up writing a fair few things inspired by artist works and gifting to them, but actually co-writing? Nada.
14. What‘s your all-time favourite ship?
HAH. Listen, I sail ships across multiple fandoms I can't just pick one.
Shepard/Kaidan (Mass Effect)
Clark Kent/Bruce Wayne (Batman/Superman)
Fenris/Hawke (Dragon Age II)
Astarion/Tav (BG3)
Zagreus/Thanatos (Hades)
Vincent/Chaos (FFVII)
15. What’s the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
THIS ONE. THIS ONE THIS ONE THIS ONE. The ideas are THERE. The barebones plot is there. AN IMPORTANT THING HAPPENS in this fic that features THROUGHOUT THEIR SERIES and I can't INCLUDE it elsewhere yet until THIS IS FINISHED. But I don't see it happening anytime soon. I might actually have to rewrite it - I'm positive there's something in the current chapters that's tripping me up and ugh.
Sunlight… (4716 words) by WrathBites Chapters: 2/4 Fandom: Mass Effect Trilogy Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Characters: Kaidan Alenko, Male Shepard (Mass Effect) Additional Tags: Pre-Relationship, Friendship, Returning Home, Alternate Universe - Vampire Series: Part 12 of Sunlight and Stardust Summary: In which Shepard returns home, with a mandatory plus one.
16. What’s your writing strengths?
Dialogue and describing magic, hands down. That's my jam, love it, could do it all day.
17. What’s your writing weaknesses?
Writing anything but the dialogue in a given scene and setting the scene so readers know where the fuck characters are and their positioning to one another.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
Eh. You won't catch me doing much of it on my end since there's a 98% chance I'll be butchering the language. The only exception is a smattering of Gaelic, since I'm on/off learning that (hi, Scottish, and you'd be surprised how many schools don't teach a single word of our native language :D it's great fun :D it's totally okay :D )
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Final Fantasy VII, but the first work posted to AO3 is for Detroit: Become Human
20. Favourite fic you’ve ever written?
"Did it hurt when you fell from heaven" (Lucifer, linked further up). I was a woman possessed with that fic, 6,112 words written in one sitting (has never happened before or since, let me tell you) because. It just.
Listen okay if you've seen Lucifer (absolutely would recommend the first two seasons, my faves) there's just. He's hurting. He's struggling. And the subject matter I touch on in the fic is just glossed over in the show (it feels like it anyway) and it didn't sit right with me at all and man how I wished I could reach through that screen and give Lucifer a hug (not that he'd appreciate the gesture but still).
I wanted to shake everyone around him and scream for them to open their eyes and see. And so the fic was born. Pretty sure I stayed up until crazy o'clock writing it because I had to, it needed put into writing dammit.

characters : ayato / scaramouche / kazuha fandom : genshin impact quote cr : queen bee - inuhime a/n : siren au!!

↬ ayato ࿐ ࿔
how desolate & lovely the sea is , your bewildered reflection appearing in clear waters. it sings a quiet lullaby, demands your presence, pulls you forth with longing.
"please, watch out. you'll fall in."
you jerk back at the feeling of ayato's hand against your shoulder, the gentle press a reminder of reality and presumed safety. disruption survives in the waves, the calms of the water now agitated with what could have been.
he smiles at your spilled apologies, wonders how many times you have done this in the long time you have known each other. you adore the sea so very much, he has always noticed, and what yearning there is in your eyes for a belonging beneath the blue.
"you should be more careful." he chides you gently, laughs lightly at your defeated yet knowing expression. his hand rests on your thigh for only a moment, but the burning it leaves in its wake invigorates you more than you think it should. "you hold much love for the sea, don't you?"
his fingers entangle themselves in blue locks, strands of hair framing his face. he tilts his head, lips curved in affable amusement. your heartbeat quickens. you understand this feeling. you swallow hard, force yourself to look at him. you think to nod, to speak, but something renders you speechless, and ayato knows this.
"what is it about it, if i may ask? what binds you to shore?
you are unsure. maybe it's the tranquility of the harbors, the salt that lingers on your tongue with each breath, the hypnotizing flow of the waters. maybe it's ayato himself that brings you back every time ; maybe it's --
"i... i don't know." you tell him. "isn't it lonely?"
there is something so beautifully welcoming about it all, but something in your heart tells you to remain cautious, because not everything beautiful is meant to be yours.
"it is." his words hold tenderness, his hand reaching out for yours. "won't you join me, then?"
instinctively, you take it as if it were second nature, feeling the coldness of his skin. it feels strange, feels comforting, feels wrong and right. you are unsure. you are unsure, and you are almost afraid. ayato's lips graze against your knuckles, and you would imagine that you would feel some warmth-- some sense of security, but you only feel dread.
you should pull away, but you don't.
surely it is the water that makes your blood run cold, too.
↬ scaramouche ࿐ ࿔
foolish are those deserving of death, and you are no different. the tales of the human and siren are horrid ones, filled with terrible endings and tragedies alike. there is no happiness to be found here, but you stay, anyway, knowing that. it will end in a way both of you expect : your death will envelop his heart, devour it whole, just as his song will do to your soul.
( or so the story goes, he thinks. )
scaramouche's origins are neither human nor monster, and in his blood runs the histories of sirens: seducing, wanting, craving in their need for spilled blood and the betrayal of mankind.
you should have been dead long ago, but you remain here, not at all ignorant or naive to his being.
damned if you do, damned if you don't, he thinks, and he knows that there should be no familiarity in his heart for you. there is no room for such things in the ruin that lies in his chest, but somehow, you have woven yourself in it, settled yourself in the crevices of decay.
"you are so inexplicably stubborn."
you smile at his words, brush them off too easily for his liking. there's a lack of his usual edge, malice replaced with something kinder & gentler. you are both too aware of this, but neither of you will choose to address it.
"you like it, though." you submerge your hand into the water, watch as it drowns in shades of blue. the coolness is refreshing on your body, a quiet sigh escaping parted lips at the sensations. "i could leave right now if you'd like me to."
you glance at scaramouche, watch as his captured visage quickly twists into a scowl as he looks away. his face feels too hot, but he will rightfully blame it on the sun. he places his arms on the docks, fights the urge to bury his face in the comfort of all he knows, hide away from your presence.
you laugh, lean down and touch his cheek. your hand is much too cold, but your touch is heavenly, and so he leans into it, if only the slightest bit.
"stubborn and annoying."
"i know, i know. i'm staying, anyway."
"fine. have it your way."
a siren's tale knows only of greed and chaos, but in the one you share, there is nothing but simplicity in the joyous moments you experience. how strange this tale goes, and in the end, scaramouche wonders if you are the siren, after all.
↬ kazuha ࿐ ࿔
the sea is his home, this siren with a heart of gold. he knows it better than anyone else, understands the whispers of the tides, feels the vitality that resides in the rhythm of the water. this is where he belongs in an evermore ; this is where he is meant to be.
"i wish i could show you." kazuha tells you one day. there is a brilliance in red hues that almost clashes with the violent blue he survives in. "the sea is quiet now. it is a shame you cannot witness her before the storms arrive."
indeed, nature is a striking being : enticing in the barrenness, wondrous in its cycle of living and flourishing, but there is always a storm brewing somewhere, is there not?
the sea is meant for kazuha, but it is not meant for you. underneath it all lies an unknown danger, menacing with an evil lurking under the horizon. it speaks of false pretenses, acts as if there is nothing beyond the blue until it twists and twists into a deep black, and then becomes nothingness.
oh, how he wishes he could show you only the safest parts of the sea and protect you from the ones that desire humanity.
there is a lump in your throat that you cannot ignore. your mouth runs dry. you desire more than you should. you would be wise to be careful.
"kazuha--" it is difficult to speak. you cannot tear yourself away from his eyes. what are you doing? "won't you show me?"
something in him stills. perhaps it is a wanting, perhaps it is trepidation. he is unable to tell. he feels the sea stir at your words, knows the storm approaches. this will not end well, should you continue down this path.
he knows that, and yet--
he snaps from his trance, reminds himself of his true nature and the dynamics that are forced upon human and siren. your love for the water and his love for you would only end in your demise.
he must remember that. he is not human, after all.
"i cannot." he tells you. "it would be unsafe. i could not imagine bringing any harm to you."
you pause, register the words. there is a pain in your eyes that you cannot hide even if you wanted to, and it burns into kazuha's memory. this is for the best, isn't it? he knows this very well, but it is still a demon to fathom.
"i know." you respond, but you are quiet now, words barely heard in the wisps of the winds. "this is all i will ever know, isn't it?"
this is all you will ever know, all you will ever see, all you will ever be. you both know that.
kazuha feels the storm grow stronger, brew inside of the sinews of his heart.
"yes," he answers, and how murky the waters suddenly grow, "this is all we will ever know."

Unpopular Opinion: far too many CR fans enjoyment of characters is based only on their romantic relationship with other characters.
Hardly anyone talked/cared about FCG until they were shippable with FRIDA. 95% of discussions about Laudna are in reference to Imogen (and vice versa). Caduceus got a little attention from fans, but that dried up a lot once he was confirmed aro/ace.
If you only seem to care about a character when they're paired up with someone else, do you really care about the character?
Also a like...half agree. maybe more like 1/3.
Things I agree with: I think there's definitely a culture in fandom at large (not limited by any means to CR) that is only interested in shipping. This is a whole conversation I am not going to have at 10 pm while lightly drinking, but I do think this shapes a very large amount of discourse that goes beyond mere shipping, and might even possibly impact the TV industry in that a lot of shows that only blow up in their second or third season (sometimes after they've already been canceled on the back end for low viewership) do so because that's when the romance happens. I also agree that if your enjoyment of a character is solely centered around a ship and not the character on their own then yeah, you don't actually like them. (and yeah, while the 95% figure is probably an exaggeration for effect, it is true that Imogen and Laudna often get folded into each other in fanon such that it's frustrating if you're looking for meta on them as individuals).
Things I disagree with: Caduceus was still extremely popular throughout C2 including when he was confirmed aroace, and while there's definitely more interest in FCG at the moment there was plenty of discussion before. Like, that's just straight-up false and you're welcome to plumb my blog's FCG and Caduceus Clay tags to find no shortage of posts (and many are reblogs, to be clear, not just my stuff). I also think that like...look, I'm a meta writer and a general one at that, I'll talk about whatever character comes to mind, but a lot of people are just out here reblogging and making little liveblog comments, at most, and there is in fact just simply more to comment about when a romance happens because it is an important and significant dynamic!
Also like...god. I am, to quote Brian Murphy, almost entirely made of salt. I'm a hater and proud of it, I love criticism, I'm actively skeptical of nonstop positivity, but also, in the end, I've had favorite characters who were fan favorites, and favorite characters who were imo seriously underrated, and favorite characters who fell somewhere in between, and obviously more content is great but popularity comes with its own challenges (more terrible fanon, for one). The one constant is that even when being a massive fucking hater I have always had more fun when I don't get mad that my faves aren't more popular. Honestly? That's maybe the top thing I hate on - people getting mad that their favorite isn't everyone's favorite, and that people are talking about other things than their favorite.

I decided to look up the incident with Brian W Foster because of your post and uh. The man really did just put anyone on blast for even the mildest of critiques huh.
It's certainly a mess. For those not in the know, the post in question is here, and a lengthy write-up on BWF (from September 2022) can be found here.
The thing is, I can kind of understand how he got to be that way. CR1 fandom had pretty notorious incidents where people harassed the cast for various reasons—Broomgate, Raishan Shot First, Anytime Marisha Ray Breathes Incorrectly is an Affront to God and Mankind, etc—and if what I understand is true, Matt and Marisha actually had to take legal action about some of it. There's traces of it in the comments sections of VM episodes on YouTube, where none but the bravest or the dumbest dare to tread, but the general culture was very reactionary, largely toward Marisha, Liam, Laura, and Taliesin, roughly in that order. (Take a few guesses why.)
Then there was Campaign 2, which is where the show started to find an even bigger and louder audience among people who were a bit more in tune with the changing winds of what was acceptable in fandom. Take this with a grain of salt because I haven't watched CR2, but this appears to be where CR fandom started to be populated by the kinds of people who wouldn't openly denigrate a female cast member, but who would be perfectly happy to, say, harass other cast members or come up with conspiracy theories centered around the show being homophobic for making one wlw ship happen and not another. CR2 fandom would and will tear the show and each other apart over the littlest things, and frankly the only thing that differentiates them from the former CR1 fandom is their politics. And the cast had, to one degree or another, been active on social media and made it known they were active on social media, which meant they saw a lot of this, some of it aimed personally at them.
So like...I get it. I get why BWF might have started to respond that way. When all you have is a hammer and you're in a room full of nails, it can be difficult and tiring to check and see if they're actually screws before hammering them. But when you have over 100,000 twitter followers who are perfectly happy to swarm people at your direction, perhaps you ought to put down the hammer entirely.

AO3 Tag Game Thing
Tagged by @astoriacolumnstaircase. Thank you!
How many fandoms have you written for?
Ever? I mean my first ever was a Sound of Music sequel that I wrote in kindergarten. But if you mean like posted online, five. Chronologically: Phantom of the Opera, BloodRayne, Final Fantasy X, Fire Emblem Fates, and Critical Role. On AO3 right now though I only have FE and CR because some of those were before I came to AO3 and I also have a(n admittedly bad) habit of destroying old or unfinished works that I don’t think I’m going to come back to. :\ (RIP The Heretic’s Daughter, you just never found your audience.)
What’s your favorite fic on your Ao3?
The one I’m most excited about is A Long Road Home, although it’s a comic that I’m crossposting to there from tumblr. Definitely the one that’s taking the highest level of dedication and the one with upcoming plot developments that I’m most eager to get to!! I’ve been really happy about how kindly it’s been received by the fandom and how many people seem to be enjoying it. I am too.
Although I’ve kind of moved on from the fandom I’m still pretty proud of Nohrian Lullaby, because it’s a complete novel (with illustrations!). While it stands on its own it was however the first part of a planned trilogy but now that I’ve gotten into Critical Role I think I’d have a hard time going back to it, haha. It was Fire Emblem’s voice cast that led me to CR but now that I’ve gotten to know them all I feel like I’d have a hard time approaching e.g. King Garon and Queen Mikoto with the solemnity they have in the game knowing now what Travis and Marisha are like at the table. XD
Have you posted elsewhere? If yes, which of those fics is your favorite?
I’m most proud of Guardian (another comic) because that was a huge undertaking and in order to do it I had to forcibly overcome the SEVERE executive dysfunction that had been hindering me for my entire life. (Absolutely trashed my school performance and for some reason none of the adults around me seemed to think that this might be a symptom of a larger problem? I was just repeatedly told “But you’re smart! You just need to work harder!” and could not figure out why I just couldn’t.) But when I started working on that and was kind of floundering at the beginning having a hard time keeping up with it, I told myself that if I wanted to see it exist in the world, then I had to be the one to create it, and basically brute-forced myself out of a lifetime habit of destructive procrastination. I taught myself to break a huge task (200+ page comic) into smaller tasks (one page at a time) and set a schedule to make that workable (day one sketch, day two lineart, and so on). And now I sincerely don’t allow myself to procrastinate anymore. If I’m given a task to do I know to get it done ASAP before it starts to seem unconquerably huge and that is honestly as much as an accomplishment as the comic itself. It’s still a struggle but it has improved the quality of my life by a lot. (Still have not received diagnosis or treatment for whatever is causing the executive dysfunction! But at least I’ve managed to wrestle that beast to the ground and am continuing to hold it there.)
How many bookmarks do you have on AO3?
I only recently figured out what they are for, haha, so 6.
How many unread comments do you have?
None! See the above procrastination thing. I have already replied to them all. :)
Any subscriptions?
About as many as the bookmarks. Currently I’m most looking forward to updates from Consequences of a Bleeding Heart and The Madness from the Salt. :D
Any favorite tags?
Laudna & Imogen Temult, Laudna/Imogen Temult, and within those I tend to comb through for AUs with an interesting premise. (Judging by my bookmarks my definition of “interesting” seems to trend towards “vampires” haha.)
I don’t know if she’s still active on tumblr but I’m gonna tag @auronlu bc she has had a very respectable fic writing career! (Feel free to ignore this, however.)

Hello I'd like to submit an application for a job at the cr salt mine
sh@dogast exists purely as fanservice for the rabid "liam owes us a gay purple romance!!" fans, fj*rester have zero chemistry and negative impact on the others' character growth and are just travis and laura making out in green and blue facepaint, and the final arc/finale shot caleb and jester's character arcs and growth point blank and left them for dead in an alley. widojest was the deepest and most profound relationship and it was entirely ignored by both the fandom and the rest of the cast. cr is no longer a home game but an actual company that thrives off of the parasocial bonds its created with its fanbase, and as a storytelling medium it often fails spectacularly, with its only saving grace being the character dynamics which are too often suffocated by the wait between games, the too-long runtime and matt's determination that the world and plot move forward with or without them.
watch d20 instead.
add me to that body list in the alley bc holy shit yeah spot on

fic authors self rec! when you get this, reply with your favourite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. let’s spread the self-love 🤍✨
fish & wild geese (mdzs, wangxian, 21k) — of all my mdzs fic this is the one I come back to the most. I love through a window softly, of course, but this one just. yeah
through a window softly (mdzs, wangxian, 14k) — I mean like, listen. it's probably one of the best things I've ever written, by which I mean it utterly and completely wrote itself. if there was ever a possession casefic in the untamed fandom it was me writing this fic
flour water salt yeast (and rosemary) (the magicians, queliot, 10k) — what's embarrassing is that this is the same as f&wg when you get down to it, but that doesn't make it not good. we all wrote, I think, an immense amount of fic dealing with the magicians and how it ended and what it did to us as viewers. this is my favorite (finished) projects of that batch
opening doors (the magicians, queliot, 52k) — I think all writers write about writing at some point or another, or always. this was that. I poured SO much thought and feeling into this one, and the play-within-a-fic still catches me off guard sometimes
inside your head the sound of glass (critical role 1, perc'ahlia) — is it the best cr fic I've written? no. there are definitely others vying for this spot (shoutout to the star wars au and also every single keyleth/raven queen fic). but I enjoyed fucking around with it in the sort of way I hadn't really let myself fuck around with things before, and I like it for that so much more than all my other, better fics.

Hi ladies! I’m the anon who sent you some info about the NYC pap walk. Just wanted to let you know Chris will be in Lisbon next week and there is a scheduled pap walk on the beach for Saturday the 17. He won’t stay for Christmas though.//
This same info send to other blogs says CR as in Costa Rica
Like I said, take anything shared like this with a grain of salt. It could be accurate, but it could be a troll in the fandom too. The two different locations screams troll 🦎

All right, this is gonna be a long one... 1, 5, 10, 14, 15, 20, 25, 30, 32, and 37 for the CR questions.
Tumblr media
Legit the first words out of my mouth were "oh Jesus!"
Here we go! CR time bay-beee! I've only been in the fandom for about a year and a half but I'm raring to go!
1- Character you don’t particularly like, but will defend vehemently when people dislike them for the wrong reasons.
Starting things off with a bang (hehe), I'm gonna go with Scanlan. A lot of people overlook him as the archetypal horny bard, which is the point of the character. His growth is subtle and doesn't really become extremely noticeable until he leaves in "A Bard's Lament." He's saved Vox Machina's butt on countless occasions and yet the team still kinda pushes him aside. They touched on this a little bit too in the first season of TLOVM with this little teases of foreshadowing and shots of him looking disappointed and I thought that was really cool. Also the clutch counterspell at 8th Lvl against Vecna is just *chef's kiss*
5- Meta you would write if you did not fear people would be SUPER weird about it. This is also an invitation to write that meta and block the haters.
I feel like a bunch of meta I've thought about has already been talked about. I've seen a bunch of phenomenal posts by many Critters on this site, including @captainofthetidesbreath and it's very intriguing and sometimes refreshing to get different perspectives on things that happen. One of my favorites I've read was a breakdown on the infamous Trent dinner scene in C2 which IMO is VERY reminiscent of the dinner sequence in Curse of Strahd. Matt defintely takes elements from well known DnD campaigns and salt bae sprinkles them into Exandria.
10- Favorite and least favorite Matt Mercer Original Subclass.
Super easy. Favorite is the Blighted Druid from Taldorei Reborn mainly because of its AoE in higher levels and addition to AC. Least favorite is the Blood Magic Wizard because as a piddly widdle wizard, your hit die is A D6. And you want your wizard to WILLINGLY cause damage to themselves?!? Hard pass.
14- Describe the art you would most like to create or commission if talent/money were no object.
God, there's so many things I wanna create. Right now I'm working on the Callowmoore supercut (which sits right now at about 35 min) and a few attempts at animatics here and there. The main two animatics I wanna try my hand at are Fearne and Ashton's fireside chat in C3 and Capeleb in C2.
Cosplay is also a thing I wanna get more into. I did a few CR casual cosplays this year (Imogen and Vax) for a ren faire and GenCon and I was so surprised by everyone's compliments on them.
15- Favorite one-on-one conversation (can be between two PCs, or a PC and NPC).
Oh God. So far Fjord and Essek's conversation after Molly's failed return made me bawl like a baby and so did Orym telling Will he couldn't stay in C3. Also for the Mighty Nein Reunited, Essek stopping by. 10/10 will die happily.
20. What non-D&D TTRPG would you most like to see Critical Role run a one shot in?
Arkham Horror would be pretty cool, I'm not gonna lie. Or Dresden Files. Or Balikbayan: Returning Home
25. What class do you most want to see Matt play if he is in a future EXU campaign as a new (not Dariax) PC?
Matt sure does love his spellcasters so let's mix it up. I wanna see him as an absolute madman of a paladin.
30. What is your favorite theory or headcanon that has absolutely no bearing on the plot and isn’t important at all, but which is completely compliant with canon?
I still think Caleb and Essek would have tried to go back for that freaking necrotic gem that Caleb almost got nuked trying to get. That whole scenario is freaking hilarious.
32. If the CR main cast were to play the original 7 tombtakers per The Nine Eyes of Lucien (Brevyn, Cree, Jurrell, Lucien, Otis, Tyffial, and Zoren) in a one shot, who should play whom? Assume Matt DMs, but you do not need to have Taliesin play Lucien.
Oh absolutely Matt plays Lucien. I would have Ashley be Brevyn (because it only makes sense given the connection), Zoren be Liam, Sam be Otis (because karma is a god), Cree be Laura actually, Travis be Jurrell, and Marisha be Tyffial. Have Taliesin switch out with Matt sometimes when Matt comes in as Vess DeRogna. Double DM!
37. You have to take a 16 hour road trip with one NPC from each campaign (all at once, ie, three other people). The NPCs cannot shorten the road trip in any way and the road trip must be via driving but you can do it in two 8 hour days and share a motel room if you’d like. Who do you pick?
Oh geez. Probably Gilmore and Essek and Weva and I'll explain. Essek would be the person I would talk to for small talk and get along with (and talk about how exhausting it is to just be) and Gilmore to absolutely come in and be like "I got the music!" and slams on the soundtrack from Priscilla Queen of the Desert. Weva would also be the one who tells really extravagant stories because she has to be some sort of death cleric who has stories from being a magical mortician.

It's just... such a hard concept to grasp... on this improv acting show with actors on it that's been running for 3 campaigns over 7 years.....

Shadowgast is a multifaceted and open-ended fictional relationship, and it goes without saying that different people will and should see different things in it, but "Caleb's attraction patterns are such that Essek's similarities to Ikithon are as essential to their chemistry as Essek's differences from Ikithon are" is pretty low-hanging fruit. Like, rootstock sloes kinda low.
