Pruning day
Well, I managed to get at least something done outside today!

The before and after pictures. I was losing light by the time I was done, so the second shot turned out pretty bad. Sorry.
My goal was to take care of the one at the end of the row of crabapples; far left in the photos. I’ve been tasting apples from different…

Hello Tumblr! I'm not much for posting things, usually just explore the tags I like, but I do enjoy photography as a very amateur hobby. We got our first snow of the year yesterday and I noticed how beautiful our crab apple tree was, so I guess this will be my first post! All I have is a phone camera and binoculars, so whatever I rarely post won't be professional or even close to high quality for now, but I want to start somewhere and practice.
If you decide to follow me, do be warned, this is just a small hobby for the time being and I don't have a schedule for posting. The next post could be tomorrow or a few months from now. The name of my blog, TheRachiVerse, basically means that I haven't settled on a particular subject to post about, so it may change if I settle on something like photography. For now, I like the flexibility that the name has to offer.
Hope you enjoy :)
Edit: I now have a telefoto lens for my phone so the pictures will be better but still not very good. Think I've settled on photography, (mostly birds) as the subject for this blog. May or may not eventually change the blog name 🙃

Our 2022 garden: gourds, ground cherries, and one. Just one!
Our 2022 garden: gourds, ground cherries, and one. Just one!
While doing my rounds this morning, checking the remaining garden beds, I found myself giving the ground cherries a closer look.
They do have frost damage, but a lot of the leaves are still looking just fine. The entire patch is all leaning over, making it hard to reach to pick anything. I’ve found that the plants, as strong as they appear to be, are actually quite fragile, and branches break…

currently giving this tree a haircut
it's basically a rootstock crab apple that grew up from a mostly-dead other-apple some years ago, i wasn't very active in planting at the time so i just let it grow and it makes some very tasty, very tart mini apples (... crab apples, in case you didn't know, are like that)
lately i've been considering replacing it with something else but there's enough room here to put a new tree elsewhere, so i keep this for giving extra flavor to juice or more tartness (and pectin!) to pies
