I NOT ONLY just finished one of my favorite games from my childhood in its remaster but also got its 100% along with the true ending.
The little 5 years old dino could never get too far past the first boss and honestly i have much more sympathy for her because god damn this game is hard as shit (as a 23 yo!!)
Getting to the end of it is an adventure but fully completing can be considered 3rd degree torture lmaoooo

hiii kiddo 1 free pass 2 go insane about Anything U Want
hi i love you <3 so i fucking love crash bandicoot right. he's my silly little guy. he's so full of love. i'm going to ramble about crash for a bit methinks. in crash 4, a major plot beat is the main villain of the series (who up to that point in the timeline had spent the whole time trying to kill crash and take over the world) is forced to team up with him. crash's first instinct is to pull him into a big ass hug. no hard feelings there. and i guarantee there were no hard feelings when he inevitably betrays crash, because they team up AGAIN in a later game in the timeline (though the circumstances of their teaming up are way, way more silly that time).
here's the thing. the villain - cortex - made crash. ignoring the end of crash 4 (which makes use of time travel shenanigans and changes the perspective on something quite important, and also crash 4 actively says 'who cares if any of this is canon, just have fun'), all crash was up to that point was cortex's most atrocious failure. crash was supposed to be the general of cortex's army and be used to take over the world. but something went wrong - and crash became this goofy, loving, chaotic guy. powerful, yes, but not quite the type for villainy. it feels poetic that his biggest failure - and cortex has had resounding successes, like creating an actual bandicoot super soldier in wrath of cortex, or utilising time travel in warped, and even the competency of his evil daughter/niece (it's not a long story at all but not relevant to explain here) - would come back to bite him so much.
heck, even those 'successes' i mentioned get taken from him because of crash. super soldier? by the end of that game, he becomes a part of crash's found family. time travel? crash and co. also figure out time travel, and in the true ending of the game send cortex on a one-way trip far, far back into the past. Also as a baby to be extra insulting. Nina - his daughter/niece - is WAY more competent than he ever was, almost succeeding in her own plans in crash of the titans, only to be thwarted (shocker). in the sequel to that, mind over mutant, nina actually helps crash out a bit (not before pranking him, though, which is really small potatoes in the grand scheme of things). it's also a super popular headcanon that nina isn't all that into following cortex's footsteps and is on good terms with the bandicoots outside of game plots. so, yeah. crash is cortex's biggest failure and biggest pain in his ass (deserved imo).
and this isn't even to mention crash's little sister, coco. so smart that she's voiced by jimmy neutron for majority of her appearances (i am not joking). also a creation of cortex, and also made to be a general. guess what! despite seemingly being a success due to her incredible smarts, she was too smart for cortex. smart enough to gain her own sense of morality and book it. at least, that's what i think happened. she isn't present in crash 1, then appears in crash 2, and her origin isn't fully explained until crash 4 (of which i have not finished playing her origin... oopsies!! also, crash 2 came out in 1998, and crash 4 came out in 2020, which is why i say it took so long - there were a lot of games between them but crash 4 took up the numbering system again and placed itself before all the games following the original trilogy timeline-wise). what's great about modern coco is that she's silly goofy like her brother. the older games made her a bit more prissy and stuck-up, so i appreciate the change. she also loves fiercely, i'd say, but she doesn't trust quite as easily as crash does (bless 'im). hey while i'm on the topic of the bandicoots lemme bring up the super soldier, crunch.
he is a brute. big, powerful, and catering to cortex's every whim. he is able to handle the elemental masks, super powerful beings that were purposefully locked away for how dangerous they were. in wrath of cortex, his goal is to destroy crash and take his rightful place as cortex's right hand man. and then crash beats him. and - guess what! he was under the influence of mind control. even the creation that had the biggest and best chance of defeating crash would have immediately been a resounding failure without it. also, after joining the found family, crunch acts like the older brother to crash and coco, which is hilarious considering he is younger than both of them (if you consider how long he has been lucid for, which is the 5th game onwards chronologically. we don't know exactly when his body was made but he only awoke in wrath of cortex).
also remember how i said crash is powerful. strength wise yeah but do NOT let a turtle touch him. he disintegrates instantly. also he has a girlfriend that is modelled after pamela anderson. we did not see her for like 20 years until the remakes of the original games. shes got blue hair and pronouns and #trauma in crash 4. also crash has a penchant for eating super powerful artifacts because why not. god forbid he have hobbies. a hug from him would heal me. when i hear marimbas i think of him. i just scrolled back up and holy shit this is a long answer. well. you gave me permission to go mad so there. crashe bamdicoote <3

The Upcoming Year for Pokémon (From 2018) [Opinion Piece]
The fairly recent successes of certain remastered and remade titles, such as Skyrim: Special Edition, Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy, and Dark Souls (well, people still bought it!), has shown that nostalgia has a big market. Nintendo’s remake library mainly consists of updates to older generation Pokémon games (Fire Red, Soul Silver, etc), and the question stands whether ‘Pokémon Let’s Go’ should be classed under these labels.   The simple answer is no! Pokémon Let’s Go is looking more like it’s going to get a Breath of the Wild-esque treatment, where the core values and locations of the game are still there, yet certain mechanics and specific details will get a re-work to send the franchise in a fresh, new direction. For example, revisiting the original Kanto region with all original 151 Pokémon taps into the established nostalgia market, perhaps pulling in older players, while having reworked mechanics more akin to Pokémon Go which attracts the newer players, or players that have entered the world of Pokémon through the easy, global access of the different App Stores. For me personally, the return to Kanto (and the switch release) is something which interests me greatly, as my ‘Pokémon journey’ ended in Sinnoh in Pokémon Diamond. I have been looking for an opportunity to jump back in! This new direction that Pokémon seems to be taking could be a run up to their secretive upcoming main series Pokémon RPG which should be released sometime in 2019 for the Nintendo Switch. Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee may very well be a pre-release to get long-time players accustomed to new features that may be present in the new main series title. The vague “2019” release date may be giving the developers of ‘Let’s Go’ a large enough window to change features in the game based on opinions of players who play Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee. This would be to perfect the new direction that the franchise is wanting to explore. For some perspective, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was initially intended to be released in 2015, yet ended up seeing the light of day in 2017. Perhaps The Pokémon Company and Game Freak want to avoid large scale delays by releasing a smaller title first.
The much anticipated Pokémon Let’s Go will be a Switch release, and a very welcome fresh take on the franchise, something which is clearly needed and what Game Freak are intending to explore after the abolition of the ‘Gym’ system in Pokémon Sun and Moon’s Alola region. Here are a couple of tweets demonstrating the longing that fans of the series had for just some simple features for the latest Pokémon generations. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Not bringing Pokemon following you in 2019 back into the mix would be insane.</p>— Let's Go! Nidoking! (@King_Nido17) <a href="https://twitter.com/King_Nido17/status/1019011128939118598?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">July 17, 2018</a></blockquote>
<script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>s
This is what seems to be the general expectation for the upcoming games: <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Wow its nice to see people hype for the game and not just a lot of gen1 haters, cant wait for lets go and even more hype for the 2019 game!</p>— Sparks (@BetrayalsIF) <a href="https://twitter.com/BetrayalsIF/status/1017401884498386944?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">July 12, 2018</a></blockquote>
<script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
While a few others still seem to be skeptical about the return to Kanto, yet can be won over by a few of the new simpler features: <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Me: Pokemon Let's Go looks like an easier version of an already easy game. Kanto as a region is a tired-<br>Nintendo: You can give Pikachu a haircut.<br>Me: Okay, here's my card. <a href="https://t.co/OAejgwDJoq">pic.twitter.com/OAejgwDJoq</a></p>— Cowboy Sean (@CaptainToney) <a href="https://twitter.com/CaptainToney/status/1017411802844487683?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">July 12, 2018</a></blockquote>
<script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset=“utf-8"></script>
All in all, fans are excited. Even if hardcore fans might be tired of the Kanto region, the promise of an upcoming RPG with new features and direction is winning people over. We shall have to wait and see!

CTR: Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled (2019) Review
[This review is a continuation of my Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy review. Please read that (and by extension my whole Crash Bandicoot review saga) first.]
In 2019, Activision Blizzard released Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled, a from-the-ground-up remake of Crash’s racing title. I have mixed feelings about this remake. On one hand, I think it’s great and it’s an objective improvement over the original. On the other hand, I have big issues with it. Both game design issues and moral issues. Let’s just jump into the comparison.
Firstly, the obvious: graphics. While I had my issues with the artstyle in N. Sane Trilogy, I don’t have them here. CTR barely has you look at your character so your attention is fully focused on the environments you’re racing through, and I think they look incredible. This game can look stunning across the board. Lots of very pretty levels. Coco Park is probably my favorite in terms of visuals. However, there’s a major issue with the graphics, and that’s the performance. As I've mentioned earlier, this game only runs 30 FPS on all consoles, even the PS4 Pro and the PS5 with no next gen update on the horizon. The resolution is decent at least, on PS5 anyway. On Nintendo Switch, the game is locked to an ugly 720p, even docked. Honestly, this is unacceptable. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe looks just as pretty as this game and it runs a crystal clear 1080p and a buttery smooth 60fps on Switch. The fact Crash can’t even manage 60 on PS5 is pathetic. What makes it worse is that Nitro Fueled never got a PC release. So that means that not only is there no official way to play the game on PC, but there’s also no official way to play the game with a decent frame rate. However, that’s not to say there’s no way to play the game at 60fps. Since this game is on Switch, it can be emulated with Yuzu, and it runs flawlessly. On Yuzu, you can upscale the game to 1440p and beyond and you can also apply a simple 60fps patch. Now you can play the game with some decent visuals. You are held back by the Switch’s inherent visual drawbacks, but it’s worth it for the frame rate. If a fan can get this game running at 60fps, then they have no excuse.
Well graphics aside, how well does the gameplay hold up? The gameplay on the whole is mostly unchanged. There are subtle downgrades though, mainly to jumps. It’s simultaneously harder to land high jumps due to awkward collisions and easier to overshoot jumps due to their new momentum physics. There are other changes too, but they’re more subtle. Of course, none of the tracks were redesigned with the new physics changes in mind, so it simply plays worse, much like the N. Sane Trilogy. However, I don’t think it’s a game ruiner here like it was in Crash 1. These changes are, like I said, subtle. They’re only really noticeable if you compare the games back to back. So while Nitro Fueled does have worse gameplay, it’s barely noticeable so it's not a deal breaker.
Besides, unlike N. Sane Trilogy, Nitro Fueled is far more than just the same game again with prettier graphics and worse gameplay. The N. Sane Trilogy only had one original thing in the whole game, being a post launch level. Nitro Fueled is jam packed with an insane amount of new content. We have an absolutely massive roster with 56 playable characters, all of which having plenty of unique skins. We also have an insane number of kart parts. Between bodies, tires, paint jobs, and stickers the amount of unique kart combinations is limitless. We have 40 tracks, all of which having their own time trials with different time crate placements and the new ring challenge mode with various ring placements. We also have battle mode, which itself has a good handful of maps with a bunch of different battle modes. They even remade all of the content from Crash Nitro Kart and just included it with this game. Combine that with the remade Adventure mode and a ton of stuff I didn’t mention, and this game is fucking insane with how much content it has. Even if the gameplay changes were bad enough to be really noticeable, the amount of content this game has alone would justify playing it.
This is a great remake! So how did they fuck it up?
When I was just boasting about all this game’s content like its character count and customization options, I left out one crucial detail: how to unlock that content. The vast majority of this game’s content is locked behind the Pit Stop Shop. The Pit Stop Shop is a Fortnite-style store where a small collection of random items will be available for purchase for that day only. The next day everything will refresh. This store is online only, so if you don’t have an internet connection, you can’t buy anything. That means that most of the content on the disc/cartridge can’t be accessed without an internet connection and presumably once the Pit Stop Shop servers go down, so will most of the game. It gets worse though. How do you buy these items? You buy them with Wumpa Coins. How do you get Wumpa Coins? Well, either by grinding by playing online matches to get pitifully small amounts of coinage or by, you guessed it, spending money on microtransactions. Good ol’ Activision Blizzard. We all saw this coming, right? Let’s not forget that the whole reason this company even exists in the way it does today is because Activision wanted to jump on the live service bandwagon.
However, I wouldn’t blame you for thinking this game wouldn’t have this bullshit considering that, quite literally, one month before launch the developers told us that this game wouldn’t have microtransactions at all. Then the game came out, and no microtransactions in sight. Everyone praised the game for not doing that in their reviews. Then a month after launch, after the positive reviews had gone out and after a lot of people already bought the game and got deeply invested in it, Activision announced they were adding microtransactions to the game. Not only that, but the in game shop “coincidentally” started upping the prices of everything within the shop. They made unlocking basic cosmetics a hell of a lot grindier all for the sake of pushing people into wasting their money on this crap. How utterly despicable, especially in a game aimed towards children.
On the bright side, at least the online was good, right? Crash Team Racing is a game I’d love to have an online mode so I can play with other people. Adding an online mode to a CTR remake sounds like an incredible idea, and it is! Well, in concept at least. The online in Nitro Fueled was dead on arrival. Not even a few months after launch passed before people stopped playing. Gee, I wonder what happened to this game within a few months of launch that would turn off a lot of players. HMM. Anyway, it would take ages to find a full match, and when you did it wasn’t worth it. The most dedicated players were too advanced and the game had no matchmaking, so casual players will get destroyed and just stop playing. The characters were unbalanced. Every character was assigned an arbitrary class, and some classes were simply better than others. If you were a big Coco fan but you wanted a speed focused character, you were shit out of luck. Large portions of the roster weren’t even worth playing. The online didn’t even have servers! It was all peer to peer, which just made lag and disconnections even more of an issue. It also didn’t help the wait times either. That was all within a few months of launch. Nowadays, the game is completely dead. The only places to find a good race is in private servers with friends. Even worse is that their “live service” gave up not even a year after launch. The game was released in June 2019 and the last update was March 2020. What a joke.
Keep in mind that these past few paragraphs were based not on my own personal experience. I wasn't there at launch and I based this review off of an offline-only Yuzu version of the game. It's possible that people were exaggerating or maybe some things are fixed now. Feel free to take some of that with a grain of salt, but honestly nothing that I've heard from others then repeated here sounded remotely far fetched to me and a lot of it was backed up by a lot of other people's personal accounts. So while it's possible some of this might not be true, I believe all of it and I would never intentionally lie to people.
In conclusion, Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled was a great remake that was ruined by unbelievable greed. I’d expect nothing less from Activision Blizzard, one of the worst companies making video games today between their anti-consumer practices, their anti-employee practices, and just their general discrimination against marginalized groups. Truly they’re just anti-everyone (except their top dogs). Look, if all you care about is the gameplay and the amount of content that’s technically on display, it’s not an awful game. It is fun and the content is still there, but I just can’t recommend this game on either a product level nor on a moral level to anyone. If you want to experience Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled, the best way to is simply emulate the game with 60fps and all the Pit Stop Shop content unlocked from the get go. That will mean that you won’t be able to play the game online, but no one was using the online anyway from what I've heard. Unless you were planning on joining an online private community for this game or were planning on playing it online with your friends, there’s no reason to play this game via the official means. I’m aware that I’m suggesting piracy, but Activision Blizzard is awful so fuck them. Piracy is fine, at least in their case. It’s always moral to pirate games that were being sold by awful corporations.
Now with all that said, I’m done talking about Crash Bandicoot for now. I could go into more detail into the era of games in-between after Naughty Dog left and before the modern day revival began, but I'm honestly tired of this orange marsupial. But still, 6 essay reviews (8 if you count the multiple parts) over the course of 5 days. That's definitely a new record to me. I haven't posted anything on Tumblr here in a while, so consider this an apology I guess.
Oh who am I kidding? No one reads these things.
Well regardless, that's all folks.

Crash bandicoot 2 cold hard crash
Tumblr media
2 Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back.In The Wrath of Cortex, death routes always return to outline form if Crash dies outside of the death route, even after Crash has already taken the death route platform. Gem paths are similar to death routes, except they require colored gems to enter, but still use the same music as a death route. They often have more nitro crates and/or TNT crates, than normal routes. Death routes usually feature more dangers than found in a normal level. Some death routes contain iron checkpoint crates as the death route is not required for box completion. The death routes always contain a gem, and sometimes also crates that must be broken to receive the level's box gem. Once Crash/Coco gains access to the lift, they will take an alternate route that is usually more difficult than the regular route. If they die along the way before reaching the lift, then only an outline will appear in its place. Crash/ Coco will only be able to access the lift with the crossbones by making it through a certain portion of the level without losing a life. The death routes are alternate routes in certain levels that can only be accessed by a special lift that has a crossbones symbol on it. Sane Trilogy remakes of the former two games. And now I’d like to hear from you, our readers. An Egyptian Death Route platform from Crash Bandicoot: Warpedĭeath Routes (also known as Skull Routes) are special paths that appear in Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back, Crash Bandicoot: Warped, Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex and the N. Well, those were the stages from Crash Bandicoot 2 that caused the Duck the most trouble. To make matters worse, this level is filled with these robotic starfish-like enemies who change positions every few seconds, meaning you have to time jumping on them or sliding into them just right or risk getting zapped. Provided you didn’t defeat the first enemy after the death route, or else you can’t jump high enough to reach it again. To get all the gems in this stage, one must reach the death route, die so as to return to the main stage, proceed to the end of the level, then return to the death route to complete the level. Piston It Away: This level…made me so mad and is yet another example of overly insane challenges. Oh, such fun! Plus, if you want to get all the boxes, you need to backtrack quite a bit, and depending on how you use your checkpoints, it could be a long time before you get another. So while you’re dealing with psychotic plants or waiting for an electrified fence to turn off, an endless stream of bees is harassing you every few seconds. The bees were the worst part of the level for me, as you can’t destroy their hives, so they just keep coming. This is the first location in the game where I had to deal with projectile-spewing plants and bees, and let me tell you, I was not “diggin’” this level at all after the first few bee-related deaths. The only reason this level wasn’t listed higher was because I was fairly used to dealing with bees at this point, and I don’t recall having to backtrack in this stage….ĭiggin’ It: I can only imagine that someone at Naughty Dog was in a bad mood the day this level was created. In fact, the beehives in this level actually send about five bees after you at a time, which are nearly impossible to kill all at once without a perfectly timed spin. AND that latter challenge involves reaching the end of the death route, only to backtrack back to the beginning after hitting the ! box! AND it’s a slippery ice level! AARG!īee-Having: This is the second stage that involves bees, and my complaints are more or less similar to those I’ll be discussing with Diggin’ It. In order to obtain both gems, you have to complete this level’s death route…twice, once for the death route’s gem and again for the box gem. This particular stage is a perfect example of absurd challenges that had me pulling my feathers out halfway through. And soon, you shall find out why.Ĭold Hard Crash: While Crash 2 was a pretty fun game overall, my main complaint was how utterly aggravating certain gems were to obtain. As difficult as the first game was, I think getting 100% in Crash Bandicoot 2 was even tougher. And seeing as this was yet another challenging platformer, it seemed fitting to create another list of the game’s most aggravating levels. Sane Trilogy (and published the episodes on Youtube…). I’ve made it through the second Crash Bandicoot game on the N.

So I am probably gonna go for the 23:35 on Whole Hog instead of the 23:34 because 23:35 gives me the 5th place on the time trial leaderboards but on speedrun.com it ties with Raymandicoot's 6th place time. Raymandicoot is one of the best runners of this game, like he has 5th place in the any% and World Record in the All gems and 105% categories. So it would be unbelievable if I could even manage to tie with someone of that skill level. Plus, I've been on 23:35 pace twice now so it is not unreasonable that I could be able to grind it out eventually. Honestly, I just want to focus my energy on learning different levels.

Game Informer - “Creating the N. Sane Trilogy”.
Tumblr media
Highlights from the interview:
They are fixing controls (They gave an example for the Jetpack with shoulder buttons and Y Axis Inverting), while keeping the old school controls as well with Analog support and all that jazz.
You can hold a button to speed up the crate dropping speed in the results screen for Crash Bandicoot 1, alongside the teasing of “new animations”.
They have scoured the internet for a lot of resources to use, including fanmade ones during pre-production.
They have thought of putting a gallery for concept art and other stuff but didn’t say if they are committing 100 percent to it “we can’t commit to anything”.
They have been studying from playing the games, looking at the videos, resources, concept arts, a ton of things.
Alchemy is being used but the artstyle is heavily adjusted for the Crash universe (obviously).
They are going for references beyond Crash, Looney Tunes, Taz, etc.
They said that while doing the Skylanders content or before it, they were specifically approached to remake/remaster the games (nothing about a new game, obviously they can’t say anything about that).
It’s brought up that VV are indeed constantly working on multiple areas of the game at the same time and reiterating on them until they’re happy with the result (For example: Checkpoints in Crash Bandicoot 1).
Also, they don’t have the original code from Naughty Dog and have gotten the levels data from Sony via Activision.
They are obviously scouring a lot of places online like Reddit, NeoGAF and YouTube (Those are the mentioned ones in the video).
Pinstripe is the Potoroo in the cage! (They joked about Papu Papu being caged).
It also seems according to Dan (don’t take his word for it though he says that in the video) they might’ve approached Clancy about voicing Cortex.
They got asked about DLC/Big Content/Major changes, they were like: we might do some major announcements “To be announced” (Doesn’t seem that they are doing DLC but they aren’t ruling that out, as Kara says).
Got asked about “Rights Issues” and said that both Activision and Sony have arranged for the revival of Crash Bandicoot (There was no actual issue but there is confusion/misconception among many).
