A genius, she has truly believed him to be a genius. A man who would be revolutionary for modern medicine, a promise to cure currently incurable diseases. It has been macabre enough when he mentioned he was about to cure juvenile daydreaming, melancholia, and dementia but things take a whole different turn when he mentions lesbianism.

Jack thinks the plan is risky, thinks Bittle and he aren’t familiar enough with each other to pull it off. He tells this to the boss once, twice, again, but Special Agent in Charge Johnson doesn’t even look up from the paperwork pile on his desk when he tells Jack, “This is what has to happen, Special Agent Zimmermann. Make the best of it.”

The house they purchase is large, spacious enough for Jack and Bittle and whatever fictitious children their assumed identities would wish to adopt. It has a wide kitchen, tall ceilings, gold embellishments on the turning staircase. Most importantly: it has three stories of white walls, enough space for their vast collection of forged paintings.
