unpopular opinion: i like pre-prison reid more than post-prison reid. one of the things i loved most about spencer was the way he was so soft and smiley despite all the trauma he's been through. now he just seems so sad and anxious all the time. he also slowly started to present more neurotypically and not that its a bad thing, but his neurodivergent tendencies are what made reid who he is in the earlier seasons. it was also nice to have a character i relate to as a neurodivergent person. he js doesnt smile as much anymore and that makes me sad tbh but i dont blame him considering the trauma and torture he's been through. i still love post-prison reid ofc but i wish we still had the old spencer :(

Unpopular criminal minds opinion: JJ and Reid would never be together, it was always a one sided (romantic) thing. JJ saw Reid as a little brother and Reid saw her as something more, intimate. The only reason writers made JJ confess these nonexistent romantic feelings after over a decade (while she’s married with 2 kids, mind you) is because of fan service and they knew the show was coming to an end. I notice writers of shows always decide to cater to the fans, heavily, when the show is on is somewhere in its last 2-3 seasons.

What really annoys me is the fact that people think that Spencer and Morgan and the rest of the team have the right and even should be mad at Emily for faking her death, let me rephrase- for sticking with a plan created for her to make sure she’s safe??? Like girly didn’t even have a choice they shipped her off while she was in no state to function, how are people like “Reid shouldn’t have forgiven her so easily” like what 😭 I can understand them being mad at JJ or Hotch even tho it’s kind selfish but I get it emotions take over blah blah blah. But I could never understand why they were mad at Emily for choosing to save her life AND keep the whole team safe, they literally experienced what Doyle could do and still thought that she would be safe with them or something? That weirdly always bugged me when I rewatched the series

Listen, I LOVE Spencer Reid; I think he’s great! He’s a likable, compelling character brilliantly portrayed by Matthew Gray Gubler, and his presence adds a lot to the show. I want to make him soup and give him a soft, cozy blanket. But there’s a part of me that is genuinely so glad that he’s not going to be in the reboot, because it might finally force the writers to recognize that it’s not The Spencer Reid Show, that he’s not the only character or even (in my personal opinion) the best character on the show, that the other characters are every bit as deserving of love and attention and character development, and that enjoying Criminal Minds is and absolutely 100% should be about so much more than just fangirling over the conventionally attractive white boy.

Spencer reid and JJ as a couple was a valid idea at the beginning of the show. Pushing the ideal of them getting together in season 14 and possibly season 15 if the fandom didn't have the reaction it did. Was and still is idiotic.

I absolutely love the pairing of Reid and JJ. While it did disappear in Canon. Fanfiction became the only place I could find a good story of them ending up together in a way that doesn't discredit Will. Unfortunately, there's only two fanfiction that makes sense to the state of their canon friendship and build on it.

Me personally I hate the daddyfication of Spencer Reid.

It just feels like from season 11 they kind of just got on tumblr and saw people were calling Spencer hot and CHANGED HIS WHOLE CHARACTER.

And don’t get me wrong I know that the prison storyline is a reason for the change in his demeanour but honestly it’s kinda weird how they had him become conventionally attractive ( if that’s what a strong man falling for bad girls and throwing away his morals just to make out with a LITERAL unsub and getting mad all the time and talking about killing people all the time, is) only after he was deeply traumatised from literal PRISON.

Rewatching Criminal Minds after a few years has made me realize what a key role Hotch played on the show. I understand why the actor was fired, but he added a certain authority, gravity, and leadership that I feel no one else could replicate.
