Alessandro Del Piero showing his support for the Azzurre by visiting them at Coverciano! Also recall the message of support he sent to Cristiana Girelli during the last World Cup.
Ale is a fan of the Azzurre, just like the rest of us 💙 🇮🇹

Ur welcoming for the brain challenge that was the starting XI, at least u were occupied. Now I’m gonna rate it bc my game my rules. I am removing pount bc if a 3back no reason other than not a fan of 3backs, but u get extra point for a French player(I’m French) extra points for Becky bc the thorns, extra points for having an arsenal player overall a solid 12/15. I’m intrigued by ur bench
in MY DEFENSE I would pick a 4-3-3 under duress and nothing else. Also Daniela Montoya is a CDM so she counts as the 4th in the backline, and if we're gonna be real technical it's more like a 3-1-3-2-1 with Daniela Montoya being the floating defender, and Ludmila and Jessie Fleming flanking Asllani.
BUT I'll take the 12/15.
I'm gonna assume the Bench had the same rules as the XI, no repeats.
I would've left: van Veenendaal 🇳🇱, Corsie 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿, Leah Williamson 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿, Foord 🇦🇺, Cristiana Girelli 🇮🇹, Stephany Mayor 🇲🇽, and maybe McCabe 🇮🇪 to round up a squad of 18? This game is hard!

USA: 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup Champions
Tumblr media
THE TOURNAMENT REPLAYED – “There will be a before and after the Women’s World Cup 2019,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino at the closing press conference of the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019™.
The 'during' was certainly eventful, as USA retained the title they won at Canada 2015 and lifted the trophy for a fourth time. Runners-up in only their second appearance in the competition, the Netherlands continue to make history of their own, two years after winning the European title, while Sweden claimed a top-three finish for the fourth time. As for France, they fulfilled their promise to stage the greatest Women’s World Cup of all time.
The champions Led by their two captains, Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe, USA cruised through the group stage, which they began with a tournament-record 13-0 defeat of Thailand. When tested by world-class opposition in the shape of Spain, France and England in the knockout rounds, the Americans found a way, scoring early in each match and withstanding everything their opponents had to throw at them. And when it came to the final hurdle, the USWNT lived up to their reputation, beating the Netherlands thanks to stellar performances from Rapinoe and breakthrough star Rose Lavelle.
Memorable moments Oranje make history: While they ended the tournament in tears following their Final defeat, the Dutch will be returning home heroines. Tournament newcomers only four years ago, they are now officially the second best team on the planet.
Tokyo here we come: With France 2019 doubling up as the UEFA qualifying competition for next year’s Women's Olympic Football Tournament, the Dutch also booked a place at Tokyo 2020. They will be joined there by losing semi-finalists Sweden and England. The three European places available at the Olympics have rarely been so hard to claim, with seven of the eight quarter-finalists at France 2019 all hailing from the continent.
Famous firsts: Tournament debutants South Africa, Chile, Scotland and Jamaica all scored their first Women’s World Cup goals, though only La Roja managed to go on and win a match, against Thailand. Spain also earned their maiden world finals victory, while Argentina and Scotland collected first-ever points thanks to their dramatic 3-3 draw.
Individual performers: Mana Iwabuchi (Japan), Caroline Graham Hansen (Norway), Asisat Oshoala (Nigeria), Gabrielle Onguene (Cameroon), Sam Kerr (Australia) and Cristina Girelli (Italy) all excelled on the big stage but were unable to take their teams any further than the Round of 16 or quarter-finals. Picking out individual stars from the four semi-finalists was a tough task, although Lucy Bronze and Ellen White (England), Rose Lavelle and Julie Ertz (USA), Sofia Jakobsson and Caroline Seger (Sweden), and Vivianne Miedema and Jackie Groenen (Netherlands) all played big parts in their teams’ superb campaigns.
French dream unfulfilled: Perhaps the most eagerly awaited match of the tournament, the quarter-final between hosts France and defending champions USA proved to be an engrossing and suspenseful battle that eventually went the way of the world’s top-ranked team. Once their tears of disappointment had dried, however, Les Bleues could take pride from the passion and enthusiasm they had aroused across the country thanks to their fine performances and exemplary spirit.
End of an era?: France 2019 may well prove to be the World Cup swansong for some of the world's finest players. Among the stars perhaps bidding adieu are the Brazilian trio of Marta, Formiga and Cristiane, Canada’s goalscoring legend Christine Sinclair, Norway keeper Ingrid Hjelmseth, and USA idols Carli Lloyd, Megan Rapinoe and Ali Krieger. While the future is in safe hands with the next generation of talents, these star performers are sure to be missed if they do not return to the big stage in 2023.
Participants Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Cameroon, Canada, Chile, China PR, England, France, Germany, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Korea Republic, Nigeria, Norway, New Zealand, Netherlands, Scotland, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, USA
Final standings

Women’s World Cup Preview: Group C
Group C
Australia and Brazil, two World Cup powerhouses led by exhilarating attacks, are searching for their first World Cup title. Meanwhile, Italy return to the World Cup for the first time since 1999. And Jamaica make their first ever appearance.
Australia (FIFA Ranking: 6)
The Matildas have appeared in every Women’s World Cup bar one since the start of the competition. Australia qualified for France 2019 after coming in second place in the 2017 AFC Women’s Asia Cup. Their manager, former Socceroo striker, Ante Milicic will be coaching in his first major tournament after being given the job of Feb. 2019. Look for star forward Sam Kerr to try to recreate the form that she was in during 2017/18 where she scored in seven consecutive games for the Matildas. Kerr will be partnered with veteran forward Lisa De Vanna who has 47 goals in 147 appearances for Australia.
Brazil (FIFA Ranking: 10)
Another mainstay in the Women’s World Cup, Brazil have appeared in every edition of the competition and come into this instalment in great form. They cruised their way to winning the 2018 Copa America Femina after winning all seven of their matches while scoring 31 goals and only conceding two in the process. Brazil’s success all hinges on the form of talismanic captain Marta. The forward’s influence on Brazil is comparable to Neymar’s for the men’s national team. Marta is allowed to free roam around the field and influence the attack however she can. She is often the bridge between the midfield and attack, and has an astonishing 110 goals in 130 appearances for Brazil.
Italy (FIFA Ranking: 15)
La Squadra Azzurra will appear in their third Women’s World Cup and their first since 1999. Italy’s best finish came in 1991 when they reached the quarterfinals. That is all the success Italy has seen in international competitions. However, the Azzurra did win seven out of eight matched to top group six in European qualification. After the retirement of star striker Melania Gabbiadini, Juventus striker Cristina Girelli became one of Italy’s main goal threats. Girelli has scored 27 goals in 57 caps for Italy. Girelli’s strike-partner and Juventus teammate Barbara Bonesea could be a breakout star for Italy. She used her pace and smart movement to score 32 goals in 37 appearances for Juventus this year and will try to replicate her domestic form for Italy this summer.
Jamaica (FIFA Ranking: 53)
The lowest-ranked team in the World Cup this year, Jamaica will be making their first appearance in the competition. The Reggae Girlz finished in third-place in CONCACAF qualification after beating Panama in a nail biting penalty shootout to make history. Manager Hue Menzies has been in charge of Jamaica since 2014 on his way to leading the first ever Caribbean nation to qualify for the World Cup. CONCACAF Women’s Tournament player of the tournament Jody Brown could be the Reggae Girlz breakout star this tournament as Jamaica will try to pull off an upset or two before bowing out.
Prediction
Brazil - 7 points
Australia - 5 points
Jamaica - 4 points
Italy - 1 point

Arched chasms extend through Hangzhou office block by Julien De Smedt
Two massive voids cut diagonally through this office tower in Hangzhou, China, by JDS Architects to create an arched pathway underneath and a stepped park on top.
The 16-storey Hangzhou Gateway is located in the city's Gongshu District, an old industrial neighbourhood undergoing urban transformation.
The "H-shaped" building – created by its two voids – hosts workspaces, along with shops, a restaurant and a post office.
JDS Architects carved the diagonal pathway under the building to link the historical market hall on one side – which is being renovated – and a public green space on the other.
Triangular patches of greenery are slotted along the path as a continuation of surrounding parks, while long benches are intended to invite passersby to pause.
"The design engages with Hangzhou's rich and diverse architectural history by reinterpreting the traditional Chinese gateway and reconnecting with the city’s tradition of proximity to nature," said De Smedt, who won a competition to design the building.
"The path under the building is made to establish and enhance a connection throughout the overall masterplan," he explained, "transforming the building from a hindering wall of office space to a geometry that facilitates circulation; the design of this social amenity gives the building its unique identity."
Concave in plan, the walkway splits the lower floors of the 23,600 square-metre building into two to create quarter-circle plans. Windows popped out from the curved wall above the walkway provide views between the work spaces and the public pathway.
"By lifting its mass into an arch the building recreates a gateway between two surrounding public spaces rather than a hindering wall of office space," said the architect.
"The double-curved surface of the arch and the graphic pattern of green space invites passersby to meander through."
The roof void creates a green park on a series of stepped terraces –  a reference to the ancient Chinese rice-field landscapes.
Oriented in the opposite direction to the pathway below, the opening provides maximum sunlight and views for office workers.
The staggered landscape also acts as rainwater retainer, which re-uses water to help cool down the building.
Two vertical circulation spaces serve as the main structural supports and brace the lower floor plates. The middle floor plates span these two cores like a simple beam to create a stable platform for the upper floors.
JDS Architects is based in Brussels, Copenhagen, Belo Horizonte and Shanghai.
Other projects by the firm led by Julien De Smedt include an angular concrete community centre in Lille, a hump-shaped home in the Jura mountains and a Seoul block featuring a facade of cube-shaped balconies.
