Verin Thelyss from Critical Role/ Call of the Netherdeep.
I imagen him having long THICC hair, thicker body build, and just flat out taller in complete contrast to not only his older brother Essek but to other drow as well. What makes this even more fun is that drow males are canonly SMALLER than females. So, him being larger than the average drow would be a feat in itself.

What the Explorer's Guide to Wildemount and Tal'Dorei Reborn books are for: letting Dungeons Masters design campaigns in Exandria, sharing new lore about the world, providing new subclasses and magic items
What I'm using them for right now: hunting for canonical wizards and scholars that I think Essek Thelyss should make friends with

oh fuck. in researching further, I found where this information came up
campaign 2, episode 135 - The Genesis Ward
Caleb investigates a room labeled Records 104 and uncovers documents. one such "document refers to the 'Factorum Malleus Project'" AKA hammer of creation
later in the episode, they repair Charlie the Aeormaton, who reintroduces himself as Devexian.
"Devexian at first doesn't remember what happened to the city, but then recalls the experiment that the gods must have deemed too dangerous: the Factorum Malleus. It doesn't translate to the 'Hammer of Creation.' It translates to the 'Creator Hammer'"
now, that document Caleb uncovered also references an individual at the head of this project "named 'Athodan', who made the inspired find of 'The Relic' and was working in rejuvenation"
it is my belief that this relic either is or is something similar to the ruins in the Hellcatch Valley and the wizard who uncovered them, working on rejuvenation, is Ludinus Da'leth
he is far older than an elf should be and talks about the Calamity as if he witnessed it. after surviving the Calamity, "the relic" so-called could have been lost.
remember, Marquet used to be a jungle continent where societies of orcs and elves flourished. Gruumsh was offended by this and tried to destroy all of Marquet. thanks to the Ruidus-born hero Alyxian, Marquet was simply turned into a desert instead of being wiped from the face of Exandria.
because of this, and the loss of Aeor and the power granted to him, Ludinus wouldn't have been able to access this relic until the dust settled, and he built up power and influence again. ergo, founding the Cerberus Assembly.
In summary: the machines are called malleus keys because they are from the original, pre-Calamity project Ludinus, then Athodan, was working on: the Factorum Malleus project.
the "creator hammer" is Predathos, and the goal was always to free it

it's all fun and games until the safest place for your party to be is inside the terrifying monument to the greatest evil to ever afflict the world :)
(Netherdeep crew has officially entered the Betrayers' Rise, despite the professional recommendations of nearly everyone in Bazzoxan! I'm sure absolutely nothing will go wrong from here on out!)

an interesting detail about otohan is a treat for netherdeep fans: she is the near spitting image of alyxian in his youth. she has the same shade of tan skin, the same build, the same short hair thats curly in some iterations and later has the same silver. she wears more high-tech, but similar gear to what alyxian did. both were champions of gods only for a disaster to strike regarding their religion with such intensity they and the continent marquet were forever changed. it is as if otohan wishes to emulate alyxian, to be this generation's legendary ruidisborn as the wheel turns again to calamity. what she doesnt know is that alyxian never died. that (in a good ending of a netherdeep campaign) alyxian has begun to walk exandria again, an old man who did not truly lose faith in the gods but who has decided to find peace. she intentionally or not has tried to become him in a war of vengeance when his entire story is about facing what he & the gods did in the calamity, and realizing he is more than the trauma of war & ostracization, more than being a weapon, and more than his red mooned curse.

I wonder what all that stuff about Exaltants awakening from trauma and those cryptic lines about a vessel may have to do with Alyxian the Apotheon…
Were the Primes aware of what goes on under the hood with these Ruidusborn?
Did they just happen to chance on THE MOST TRAUMATISED RUIDUSBORN 4EVAR as someone uniquely predisposed to hold or process so much divine magic?

Been playing Call of the Netherdeep and I unfortunately (and predictably) have a thing for Aloysia Telfan, the resident moon occultist.

I was asked what sort of direction I'm given on assignments like this. Sometimes, such as in the case with the Rivals, I'm given concept art to work with:
Tumblr media
(concepts by Shawn G. Wood) I'm given a bit of info about their personality and armor and then I get to sketchin'!
Tumblr media
Here's the sketch I submitted for Ayo that was approved. Sometimes this step takes a couple of rounds. Sometimes I get it first try.
Then, all that's left is to implement any small changes they might want and then render away.

I'm late to the party of diving into Netherdeep lore, so this has likely already been pointed out, but the description of Alyxian's imprisonment immediately struck me because it's eerily similar to what we know of Predathos' situation.
“(…) a lightless realm of water and strange magic. There (…), the Apotheon has been trapped for untold ages, consumed with sadness, furious over his defeat, and yearning for his freedom. In time, the immortal Apotheon fell into a long and troubled slumber. In his dreams, the barren caverns of the Netherdeep began to shift. His memories filled the darkness, and a cocoon of melancholy formed around his body. From his Heart of Despair emerged a crimson element that embodied the Apotheon’s power. (…) roused the dormant Apotheon from his slumber. All at once, centuries of accumulated grief crashed down upon him, and the Netherdeep roared with the strength of his tempestuous emotions. The power that flows from the Apotheon is no longer truly his own. (...) he is driven entirely by his tortured emotions. Throughout his centuries of isolation, the dormant, dreaming Alyxian had hoped for someone to find and rescue him.”
Watery caverns beneath a larger city. God-like beings encased in a cocoon/shell. A long, tortuous slumber, only able to communicate through dreams and visions. 'Tempestuous' emotions and extreme isolation. Hell, Alyxian's "Heart of Despair" and Predathos, "the Beating Heart" of Ruidus, creating and twisting life around them. And finally, both hoping for someone to rescue them, release them.

When the Wildlights were at Jiggo we encountered our rivals taking part in the many different contests. One of them was with Maggie Keeneyes, the Ogre. She was lovely and super sweet. She was taking part in an arm wrestling contest. What kind of barbarian would Keq be to turn down the opportunity to take on an Ogre in a contest like that. And so, The Goblin and The Ogre locked themselves in and began their contest. It was a spectacle to watch a Goblin (4ft 1) almost half the size of the Ogre (9ft 9) challenge each other in an arm wrestle. The contest was close but Keq had come out on top!.
Tumblr media
There were many other such contests and Keq won them all! (The Keq with medals doodle is by one of the players in our game, @pheenick. I adore their doodles in our game)

I love campaign one being like “here’s a city from the shadowfell on the back of a titan!”
Campaign two saying “here’s part of an ancient arcanum city thats been baking in the astral sea for eight hundred years!”
And campaign three going “you know how there are two moons? Well one of them is covered in people and has cities!”
Matt has something with cities being corrupted by the environment they exist in being the baddies and I love it.
(Spoilers for COTN but like… the fucking Netherdeep too)

Some fun facts - and by fun, I mean deeply disturbing - about Ruidus from Call of the Netherdeep, which feel... pertinent, after last episode:
(Spoilers for CotND, obviously - most of it is background info for the module, but I’ve marked all the major ones):
The hero who sacrificied themselves to prevent Marquet’s destruction by the Ruiner was a Ruidus-born hero named Alyxian
Alyxian threw himself before Gruumsh’s spear, and in this moment his ‘connection to Ruidus flared to life,’ tearing open a rift between worlds ‘in which alien energy from an unknown realm’ created an entire plane of existence, the Netherdeep
While Alyxian was in the Netherdeep, his dreams and pain literally shaped the plane around him, and his power and grief took physical form in a substance called Ruidium which slowly corrupts and eventually kills anyone who handles it for more than a few seconds
The Netherdeep is packed with aberrations apparently unique to it
A cult that began worshipping the Ruidium and Alyxian himself gained actual magical power from it
Major, major CotND spoilers for the next ones:  The Netherdeep apparently ‘preyed on’ Alyxian’s more negative emotions, amplifying his selfish side, until the entire plane was effectively an embodiment of his sorrow, fury, and loneliness
When the players fight Alyxian, his creature type has changed to aberration, then changes again to celestial
If the players free Alyxian without helping him with his trauma first, Ruidius flares brightly as Alyxian turns into a storm of shadow that rolls across Exandria. It remains to be a full moon, shining with unnatural brightness, for a year and a day.
Now, Alyxian is also an almost-demigod who was blessed by three Prime Deities, and it’s not clear how much that divine influence amplified or affected all of this fuckery. But let’s look at what we can take away from this:
It was very specifically the fact that Alyxian was Ruidus-born that led to the creation of the Netherdeep. Which, again, is a whole plane of existence.
The Netherdeep is full of ‘alien energy’ and, apparently, alien creatures
Spoilery: The Netherdeep is apparently semi-sentient, and malevolent enough to emotionally torture Alyxian for a thousand years
Majorly spoilery: Being stuck in a realm suffused with this alien energy, constantly dwelling on his own trauma, causes Alyxian to turn into an aberration.
The bad ending is directly linked to Ruidus, and Ruidus seems to gain in power from it.
Tl;dr: what the fuck is the power contained in Ruidus.
