I've noticed this phenomenon where critters will be critical of Matt for presenting a nuanced narrative in regards to the gods when they have previously been super supportive of him creating a conflict where both sides are reasonable with reasonable grievances.

Of course Matt is going to go into an arc about a man challenging the biggest power structure imaginable for all the wrong reasons the wrong way, and present a reasonable side to that argument. Of course there are people who feel oppressed by the gods and others who feel no need to save gods that never helped them.

He's taking the plot of season 3 of Korra, bad man with a good point that's doing it wrong, and actually engaging with the idea that there aren't two binary options. You can fight the guy that's trying to kill people and you can question the system he doesn't like and decide if it's worth saving. You can decide if resurrection magic is worth people being oppressed.
